You know why I think many love your videos? Your are like the"Julia child"of pilot vlogs, you don't make it fancy, you explain history and stories of places you go to, and give brief explanations of why you do the things you do. Thank you!
Just came across your channel a few days ago. Enjoying the videos! I was in tears with that music on the tower frequency, my goodness! LOL. In terms of filing IFR, I always file on the ground, unless there are challenges in doing so. I always want to reduce the number of decisions I have to make while flying and it's much easier to cancel an IFR clearance in the air rather than picking up one in the air, especially in busy airspace. Also, when it comes to fair weather cumulous clouds at mid-level altitudes, I generally fly through them when I'm solo because it gives you very good IMC practice/experience. The up and down drafts will give you a ride but they aren't strong. It'll teach you to ignore those somatogravic and somatogyral impulses and keep the airplane straight and level if general turbulence picks up on a flight, and the sensations don't last long since you generally come out the other side anywhere from several seconds to a few minutes later. The trick is to do so in the morning or early afternoon before the increase in energy builds them up into the much higher altitude levels, of course, where the wind drafts will be far more severe. But at 6,000' if they are fair weather and light in color I generally go right through.
It was a Cristian radio station transmitting out of rules! The issue is not longer on tower frequency. In fact just pilots had it. Controllers never heard it.
Most important part of the before departure checklist , text my wife to let her know I’m departing along with tail number.... I do that all the time !!! Jajaja awesome video Shamir
Cool video again. I have stayed at Casa de Campo a few times (friends home). Played “diente de perro” golf course. My first couple of hours of flight training were at Isla Grande Flying School but ended up training with “Alas del Caribe”. My DPE was Dionisio Reyes, founder of your school. Lot’s of cats in that office. Again, thanks for bringing back some great flying memories from Puerto Rico. Saludos !!!
Hi Shamir, yes I have been in Casa de Campo/Alto de Chavon twice. The last time was a year ago, I did my first flight all in spanish from MDSD to MDLR.
Got my instrument back in the 70's without the technology of today. Whole other ballgame. And forget getting a decent paying job. Vietnam war was over and hundreds if not thousands of military pilots were going commercial. And there wasn't the private jet industry like it is now. If you got a job flying a turbo prop you were at the top of the pyramid in the private world. Flying jets was very hard to come by. This is basically how Southwest Airlines got its start with military pilots retiring. You could very well have a crew that had flown missions over Vietnam. Now there's a shortage and a lot of opportunity. With that said, when I get on a commercial flight these days I always take a good look at the flight crew...lol !! My first commercial job was flying pipeline. For $600/month and was thrilled.
If this aircraft is a 2005 model (and no modification was done), the engine is a Lycoming TI0-540, not a Continental. And, furthermore, that's the information available on FAA Registry for your aircraft.
I file the flight plans on the ground!!! My torn point is deciding wether to actually depart IFR or pick it up airborne :-) But yes, I always have an IFR on file. even for the shortest flight.
@@fersobe That's a great plan, actually, to always have one on file in case. I'm way lower on the experience scale than you are, so I'm quite a bit more cautious. Love the videos, Shamir!
Thanks for the input! The reason why I never cancel is because I don't know if i'll ever need it again. Weather in the Caribbean changes in a heartbeat!

Great to be the PIC on this Flight with you Shamir in my favorite Single engine Aircraft the Turbo stationar 206

Thanks for watching Adjua!!!!!!! Love your input!
LMAO because i was multitasking and when i heard the music, my head turned back towards the screen
Alright I know it's not funny, but I can't be the only one that was crying laughing at the music.
I was like, really?

Thanks for sharing the video. It definitely keeps us motivated.
You are so welcome!
First video I have watched on your channel. Good stuff!

Hey, bro I’m from DR.
I usually go IFR even if the Wx is completely clear. Great video!
Cheers.
Why ? You're just putting a burden on the system that isn't necessary.
Nicely Done, Thanks

It will keep the manifold until something like 17,000 feet. Not the service ceiling. Service ceiling is where you can only climb at about 100 fpm.

Lol! The radio transmission is fixed you can come back without it. Controllers will wait for you 😎
Hahahaha! Are you a controller at MDLR?
This video got me at the end😂
IFR from the beginning.
Reminded me of the song "Mexican Radio" lol
First Time watching your videos, nice T206, just to remind you newer Stationairs have Lycoming engines not Continentals
File on the ground. I like the security of being IFR.

IFR looks scary it's like driving into a fog bank in a car.
muy buen vuelo!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
My God! That music !!
I love to be flying IFR cross country
saludos desde Patagonia Argentina
I have been said the water between PR and DR is sharky but I don't know how accurate this statement is.
I really don't want to find out hahaha!
That 206 is yours or is a company plane ? Nice videos by the way.
It is not Kenneth. That's a part-time gig! Thanks for watching.
@@fersobe I think i saw it about 2 weeks ago above my parents’s house in Las Croabas veryyyy low 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Do you retract the flaps while still in climb?
I have to come to where you are to go flying at a place I've never been before to get away on Vacation
Puerto Rico is shutting down unfortunately in the next weeks, but definitely after COVID passes!
I would file IFR and then cancel if not needed afterwards.
Thanks for the input! The reason why I never cancel is because I don't know if i'll ever need it again. Weather in the Caribbean changes in a heartbeat!
Curious as to why you are running at about 45% power? If you ran 75% you would get another 25knots True.
Costo airplane please
It's looks like ifr
IFR
5:11 go look in your POH…that’s a Lycoming engine, not a Continental.
