I’ve been using the “Ned Rig” for nearly 30 years! It’s amazing to me that some people think it is something new, like the last 10 years or so! It was simply a way for me to cut off the bad part of a straight worm or crawfish bait and hook them with a ball jighead and it worked!
Great video! Last year I started putting my Z-Man Finesse TRD's on the Lifted Jigs EWG 1/16 oz. and it was amazing not getting snagged on everything in the lake! They use a size 1/0 EWG VMC hook and the hookups were great! Keep up the awesome videos!
Terry, I’ve made a couple small modifications to this rig with some success. Biggest tweak is I use larger-sized snell/salmon egg-style hooks instead of standard offset ones. I Texas rig the hook either at the tip or run it thru the worm about 1/3rd of the way down. Either way works great for the Finesse and Big TRDs. This technique is no joke. Been a game changer for me last year and so far this season. I was losing untold amounts of money (and time!) in lost/snagged Ned rigs and the minute I switched to this style, I immediately started catching fish and haven’t lost a lure yet. Thank you for sharing this!
This is an awesome way to rig this bait! It’s my first year experimenting with it but so far it’s probably caught at least half of the fish that I’ve caught so far this year. Really putting up a lot of numbers and surprisingly some big ones bite it too. It’s a lot of fun to throw.
I fished a kayak tournament last summer and I was pitching around a Texas rigged senko with a 1/8oz tungsten bullet weight. I was getting a lot of short strikes. So I had the bright idea to use trd instead of the senko. So I also used a 1/0 ewg but I used a unpegged 1/16 bullet weight and absolutely crushed them. Now that is my go to over the traditional ned rig.
So im new to ned rigging and have just purchased the proper tackle needed for finnesse fishing aka medium light rod and reel to fish finnesse style fishing. And so far havent had luck. But still learning. Thank you for the video.
The zman weedless hooks possibly can miss that one hookup that can be a fish of a lifetime. They are ideal but sometime you just need a different approach. Zman product are amazing and work in so many scenarios but sometimes using zman with different options are more ideal. That is what I'm getting.
I’ve never tried the nail weight to make a bed rig, I’ve always just used an EWG Ned hook, the problem I run into (in central Oregon), is a lot of these lakes are super rocky and that mushroom head weight will get lodged in the rip wrap boulders….definitely going to give this a try!! Thank you for your time and the video 🍻
Great video. I have been rigging weedless with the mushroom jig from the time I started and it works for me. I will try your method tomorrow on Hartwell. tight lines
I fish on a lake with lots of small mouth but the lake is very rocky (Vermilion). I have great success with the ned rig but fight snags a lot. I’m anxious to try this set up and hopefully it will cut down on snags/broken lines.
I have been using the Flatlands Weedless Ned Heads. It is basically a ned head with an offset hook. Works great, 2 summers ago I fished one head without losing it for almost all day, and it got bit. Flatlands Custom Tackle Weedless Ned Heads
I use a lighter to heat up my nail weights and it makes rigging much easier. You may have to hold them pliers being that your weights are pretty small though.
Doesn't this totally take away the tail quiver which is the deadliest part of the presentation? Check out Lifted Jigs. They have Texas rigged ned head jigs.
Weightless, weedless texposed ned worm fishes more like a fluke. Totally different presentation but no doubt it works. I like to use the #1 or #2 Owner Cultiva Finesse Twistlocks for that rig, they work great.
Just found you - anyone wearing a Tiger's hat in the snow gets my subscription! I assume you're in Mich and so am I - will definitely try your rigging technique. Great video - thanks
You can't beat a weedless Ned rig. Fortunately, there's a quick, easy way to get that Texas rig effect without glue, nail weights or complications. Just get Zman's Finesse Bulletz jig heads and follow the simple instructions.on the package. It's even easier than rigging a regular mushroom head, and it maintains the buoyancy of the tail, which is one of Zman's best features.
I've used the rig but experimented using a Cheb weight, it does have a similar action as yours. BTW I fish in England, but these vidz are very helpful, thanks.
Im workn on my lure game.. Im a live bait guy but i wanna fish sum tournaments so gotta learn my plastics an this is a technique ill be trying for sure
What RR says, I just use the hook and make a path as close to the center of the bait as possible. Also, I've played with circle hooks in the nose of the bait opposite the weight. Not quite as weedless but it definitely can hook bass.
I use Gamakatsu size 1 no. 204410 G-lock Worm hook I found out smaller the hook the better. For me. Most of my 3inch or smaller soft plastic baits I use Gamakatsu size 1 hooks wide gap hooks. Fun on Carolina rig to float TRD. 🤔🤫 Is money never get snagged up weed less.
Man this has become my favorite finesse rig but the crazy thing is I never worked it on the bottom I guess like its designed to be but fish seem to love that short profile though?
Have you tried the finesse bullets? I like to fish big rock piles for Smallmouth and the traditional ned head gets hung up on rocks as much as it catches fish. I just picked up some bullets and I'm going to try them this weekend.
Good video I am going to try this, but my question is with the Ned rig. The line is attached to the weight so the line is at the bottom of the bait when it’s standing up with this set up the line is at the top of the bait, while it’s standing up. Doesn’t the line affect the bite and the look of the bait from the fishes view?
Great idea! I saw videos before of people heating up a hook with a lighter to help push it through the Z-Man lures easier. I wonder if you could try that with the nail weight.
Great video! I’ve been doing this with zoom beatdown worms for Tiny Child Rigs. I’ve been wondering about using the TRD like that and I’m sure going to have to try it out.
ive tried the weedless ned hooks but theyre not 100% weedless,u still get hang ups but ive gotta try your texas rig setup i thnk itll be better..great idea
But wouldn’t the weight being at the end, along with the little bit of weight from the hook, almost make the presentation lay down flat? I’ve been throwing the TRD on the same hook “weedless set up” and it still sinks a little bit. Not as much as I’d like so I tried just putting a very small clamp weight just about the hook on the line and was really liking the results. But I like the idea of the weight not being visible. Just wondering if there’s a way to tweak what you’ve done so that the weight is still toward the eye of the hook.
So wait a minute, the nail weight is at the opposite end of where the line is tied? So when you twitch or bounce it the thing will have just a straight up and down action rather than a jigging action like a true ned rig. I would say put the nail weight on the same end as where you're tying the line. I know it would be tricky to insert the nail weight in the same area as the hook but it seems like that's going to give you the truest ned rig action. I think the way you've got it is called a tiny child rig.
what a pain........ sure on a snowy day you've got all the patience in the world. That's how I rig my weedless neko rigs, but for that elaztech stuff, I'm not sold on it so far.
I'm just finding you on here. My 11 year old and I have killed it with the Ned. We also do a weedless a couple different ways. The way you are showing is kinda like a Neko Rig. Good video, I subscribed. I usually only post my fishing stuff on IG (abizzybomb) and FB but, I should put some on here.
Chupacabra Carter thanks for finding me on here. You should totally post your fishing experiences on here too, I would totally subscribe. Thanks again and tight lines
I love youtube guys! Lol...it's called a chicken rig, this has been around for a long time. I hope you learn to catch more fish. Tight lines and peace. Thanks again for all the laughs
Christopher Sawczyk I love RUclips commenters. They criticize absolutely everything yet haven’t posted a single video themselves. I guess you’re saying a chicken rig is anything nail weighted and weedless, including ned rig worms. I wouldn’t lump every soft plastic worm rigged that way into a chicken rig, but each their own. Take a minute and read wired2fish article on what worm they describe as a chicken rig...it’s not this
@@FishhookTerry Thanks for the advice, but that's what you said, not me. This technique has been around for a very long time. If you don't like comments ,or should I say someone educating you, then disable them. Also, I need to make a video to comment on one? Hahaha
Christopher Sawczyk Haha you’re winning the youtube comments today Christopher. Thanks again for having a laugh and correcting me, I look forward to you correcting even more of my videos.
Mike Iaconelli did a video on this same technique a while back but you but I just checked and you beat him on the upload by 6 months. He called this rig a chicken wing though.
Good video! Not so far from me. Go tigers. Also, instead of working the nail weight in, I bet you could heat up a nail, burn a hole, fill it with the nail weight, then superglue it shut.

Z-man makes weedless finesse heads too
Frs 😭
I think the hookup rate is better with them

Zman product are amazing and work in so many scenarios but sometimes using zman with different options are more ideal. That is what I'm getting.
In this way the hook point is up instead of down with a normal ned rig. This is the biggest difference i think??
Thank God for the EWG Nedlockz jighead, made that problem so much easier to deal with

I use this all the time and catch more bass than ever.the smallmiuth here in the creeks looove it.
Props for knowing how to properly mix your audio w/ music as an underbed. Dope music selection too! Thanks for the tip!
Exactly what I need for Mille Lacs smallies in the rocks n reeds. Thank brother, gonna give it a shot

Bassassin they sure do but they ain’t cheap
Just going to type that ,big bite baits make em as well all you have to do is search ewg Ned rig. Absolutely necessary for bank anglers!
suggestion: use a sharp point such as an awl or nail to make a hole in the plastic.
I just take my knife and sharpen the nail weight works awesome
Weightless, weedless texposed ned worm fishes more like a fluke. Totally different presentation but no doubt it works. I like to use the #1 or #2 Owner Cultiva Finesse Twistlocks for that rig, they work great.
Great video. I'll have to try that. Haven't used a ned rig very often because of getting snagged a lot. This should help. Thanks Man, tight lines

I wonder if you could poke a pilot hole in end with a nail to make it easier to push in the weight.
Congratulations from France.
wonderful tip
Just moved to the Rochester Hills area, and looking for suggestions on BIG BASS waters! Thanks in advance.
I just picked up the items for this rig. Thank you. For the bait slid up maybe add super glue to prevent that? I’ll try it and let you know.

Good stuff man! Just tossed this on our FB page!
Thank you so much Z-Man!!
I use a bobber stop then a bullet weight to where the bullet weight can’t move or slide then weedless
That’s a great tip and idea. I’ll have to try that!
Great idea! I saw videos before of people heating up a hook with a lighter to help push it through the Z-Man lures easier. I wonder if you could try that with the nail weight.
+FishInTheSLC worth a shot, but I’d probably burn myself lol
I used to catch a bunch of fish Texas rigging a z man hula stick with a heavy hook weightless
Check out lifted jigs, they make ewg hooks with a ned head
Love your dedication doin video in the snow right on!what lb line? Floro or braid or mono?
So ready for open water around here. Ugh! Sweet rig. 💪🏼
+Jesse Jaymz it can’t get here soon enough. I’m dying haha

I also use old ned heads that have broken. Rig like you are doing with an EWG hook and use the broken ned head with some super glue.

ive tried the weedless ned hooks but theyre not 100% weedless,u still get hang ups but ive gotta try your texas rig setup i thnk itll be better..great idea

Wouldn’t it be hard to yank the hook through the “Elastech” TRD being “skinned” weedless?
Just wondering.
What type of super glue? Are used crazy glue once upon a time and Z man worm disintegrated
That will work. Thanks for getting back to me! Fun video to watch.... that music 🎶
loctite gel super glue. the tiniest drop will work wonders
Damn thats the juice - how bout Carolina rig. You use brass?
Also the hi floater kit from venom, good way to do it tho for sure also
KapTin Mark I’ll check that out, thanks dude!! 👍🏻

Umm yeah that might not be too bad, I guess I’d want to see it but I would think it would be okay.

what if you do that set up but with twistlock
I don’t see it standing up with the hook on the other end but maybe glues a nail weight to the head of the hook

How many times can he say elastech?
Look forward to trying this set up if Gov ever grants us permission to use out boats 😖

Isn't that basically a Neko rig?
