Ethan really knows his ned rig stuff 👍. I first tried the rig maybe 1.5-2yrs ago. I failed miserably with it haha. Multiple trips trying it and didn't get even as much as a nibble. After watching all of Ethans ned rig videos and chatting with him a bit I gave it another try. Still took me a trip or two to get in the groove but I got there. I truly think I was overworking the rig wayyy too much. Got to where I would hop it minimally even forcing myself to let it sit and count the seconds down. Went from no bites to suddenly getting a dozen fish a trip in a highly pressured park pond. Totally changed my fishing. Alot of success with it in moving water with different plastics too. Now if I can keep from snagging and losing the rig on every rock or submerged tree 🤣🤣🤣.
Hey Ethan, I was using "The Deal TRD" the other day and noticed something. It looks like you run the point of the hook out of the "dark" side of the bait. I did too until recently. In fact, I also run the hook out of the purple darker side of the PB&J TRD. Then, I looked at the action in the water and noticed something. It seems, if I ran the hook point out along the line where the dark and the light color meet, the bait actually sits at an angle more consistent with the way a bait fish would look when it's feeding. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel but, give it a try. See if it makes a difference to the fish. May be over analyzing it. LOL
Struggled for 6 months to find perch in the canal of my home town. Bought a pack of TRD and mushroom heads. First day caught a new personal best....and after some experience with the ned...oh man. I caught 63 perch of a decent size, in 3 hours...
I’ve had a lot of success fishing little Ned rigs after hearing you sing their praises when i first found your channel. I even caught my personal best yellow bullhead on one. Which was quite a surprise. Thanks for being such a good educator on technique and sharing your practical knowledge. The ned rig isn’t quite my go to rig, but it it is one I come back to again and again with good success. Also, team dink for life.
Thanks Lucas for the kind words! They truly mean a lot 🤠 and I’m happy you caught a nice bonus bullhead on it! Gotta love the random surprises it brings lol
I have been fishing a ned rig for about 2 years now and have caught more bass than i ever have before. Great vid. Thanks for emphasizing the slow work speed and light weight. I sometimes i start speeding up the bait and to my detriment.
Awesome! I am glad you are also enjoying the Ned Rig. I have been fishing this thing for a long time and truly appreciate it. Always enjoy sharing it with others too - such a good way to build fishing confidence :)
@@FishAnything o ya no doubt. I find that its only the elaztech baits that really get the job done. I think the vertical bait presentation and buoyancy are key

Glad you have picked up on that. Takes a while to "master" the rig and that is one of the little secrets a lot of people have a hard time realizing. So many anglers fish a "Ned Rig" on a 1/4oz + jig. Defeats the beauty of this bad boy!
@@FishAnything Amen, 1/8 oz is the heaviest I have ever used, I used to be a "shakey-head" man, as a co-angler for years, I have learned how to fish from the back of the boat. My green pumpkin shakey head, my GO-TO bait has served me well, I have placed, but never won a tournament. I watched this video, and I think I will score better in my next tournement.
Hi, Two questions. Twice you hit the lake, how would you know which colors to cast first til you realize it’s not the right color bass not interested? Two, Is that a hook7 depth finder? Thanks
I fish the Ned rig a lot and I completely agree with “you don’t have to feed the bite” most of my Ned rig fish come from watching the line for movement and setting the hook.
I'm impressed that you're still catching fish this late in the year. My last couple of outings were biteless, but I was throwing big stuff for big toothies (who never showed up). Never even thought of Ned riggin'. My mistake, I guess. Thanks for another good show.
I'm a nedrig4life fisherman because of you Ethan. It is my #1 goto now if I'm fishing for river or big lake smallies. I wouldn't leave home with out it.
Great video - love your attitude and live casting from the kayak. Very informative, too, and I like it that you keep it light and entertaining. thanks and please keep it up!
Another quality Ned Rig video; this one is especially good for the Ned newbies. Looks like a nice little trip out on the lake as well; that first one was a beauty.
Naive yet eager-to-know question.....what gloves are you wearing? I like the idea of gloves, but don't like plasticky neoprene-y tight fitting ANYTHING. For us nearly newbies, it gets to be confusing. Ergo: loveless in NH😂 Love watching your videos. Especially love "dadgummit", lol!!
Very interesting video about this bait. I haven't used one yet. Aside from the special lead head shape it seems very much of fishing any small plastic with a fixed weight.
It is definitely similar to any other finesse plastic but I am telling you there is something magical about how it performs. Hope you can get out there and try it. Trust me, it is worth it!
Thanks for the tips! I’m not super confident in the ned rig department. I usually give up and go either wacky or neko rig. This year I’m going ultra finesse so I’ll use some of your tips you provided and hopefully gain some patience in my technique lol. I’m just so used to power finesse.
Hi Nathan, Thanks for the video. I have avoided the Ned Rig because many of the waters I fish are weedy-- loaded with milfoil in water up to 10 feet deep and a bit more. What is your suggestion for lakes that a full of Milfoil? Fish it in deeper open water? Soft bottom water ok too? Thanks
I would suggest fishing it around the edges and actually lightening up your jighead so it doesn't bog down in the grass. A lot of anglers make the mistake of fishing too heavy of gear around vegetation when it actually works just fine to do the opposite! Otherwise, I would probably use other rigs because when the grass comes to the surface, a Ned is probably not your best friend. A weightless senko, topwater frog, swim jig, etc. may be good options!
Enyoyed the video. My experience with the Ned hasn't been great. My biggest beef is the amount of line twist I get. (like you, braid to floor leader). I see at 10:50 you get it too so if twist an unavoidable hassle?

What Luke said... Double Uni is solid for me. I do 6 wraps with the braid and 5 with the fluoro and never have any issues with knot size. I like a 7-foot leader and I will fish it down to 3.5-foot or so. Go get them Gary!
It is almost time for you to go ice fishing. But lets hope you can stay fishing on soft water for a bit more. So I wonder if you can catch a fish dead sticking a ned rig ice fishing. Being from Kansas as you know ice fishing is not something we do.
Hoping to hit the soft water several more times! Will probably try for trout as the lakes start to freeze. And I have always thought about trying it but the bad part is that you really can't cover much water ice fishing so it would be tough!
ML power / Fast action. I like a 6'10 most of the time. I tend not to make super long casts so I don't think you need to go with a very long rod. Holler if I can help any further :)
@@FishAnything that is basically what I was thinking. But maybe looking for a setup for ned, weightless wacky, and drop shot. I just cant be spending too much more as I just pieced together my first ultralight outfit and my first bait casting setup this season

Good point - Ned Rig can be challenging around heavily wooded areas. I echo the above comments. Good way to present a similar rig around heavier cover.
I fish a lot of laydowns with a Ned Rig; I use a 1/32 oz head with a #6 hook. With that tiny hook it gets hung up a lot less. Granted I don’t throw into the thick stuff; but I can fish them effectively. I also target individual stumps with the small jighead as well. I’ll also throw either a Zman Finesse ShadZ or TRD Minnowz; neither has any salt which gives the whole rig a very slow fall.

Bending the hook without breaking the line showed me the strength of my 6lb test and Albright knot that build my confidence. If I could give one piece of advice, keep a dip net close by because you’re going to need it.
I really like small soft plastic swimbaits. Not super particular on model but anything in the 3" range with a small paddletail works really well! I want to try some of the other ones as well but haven't branched out much yet.

THIS THING REALLY WORKS! The next day I hooked a 3 lb bass and a 5 lb bass using the same set up with the twice bent hook?? Bending the hook without breaking the line showed me the strength of my 6lb test and Albright knot that build my confidence. If I could give one piece of advice, keep a dip net close by because you’re going to need it.
What is your favorite ned bait that isn't a Z-man?
I really like small soft plastic swimbaits. Not super particular on model but anything in the 3" range with a small paddletail works really well! I want to try some of the other ones as well but haven't branched out much yet.
So basically, I should fish a nedrig like an oversized trout magnet?
Good way to think about it!!
Are you aware your spinning reel’s handle can be switched to the left side so you don’t have to play that silly pattycake-like game swapping hands back and forth every cast?
I am aware, however I have tried switching and reeling with my off-hand. I find it significantly less comfortable and I don't feel like I am properly working my bait. I just decide to live with it :)
👍👍👍
Maybe a Carp tramp stamp? Tats are low class, popular in trailer parks and Walmart.
You should try the “child rig” if you love the neg rig
I will check it out! Thanks :)
What's up "My Nedriggers" ...lmao
I've caught more bass on ned rig than any other
Dang right - you and me both! #NedRig4Life
Calling all Jetskiers I hereby am startting a kickya-sstater campaign....$199 Moon dollars will secure your order of my new Lead based technology lifejackets
Lololol I think Jetskiers should only be allowed on bad fishing lakes XD
isn't it just a small shakey head ?
Kind of. The value is the smaller hook/head and the slow rate of fall.
Great tips Ethan. Get the tatto
Lol I ain't getting no Ned Rig tattoo XD
Ned rig tramp stamp😂😂😂😂
Hey I am sure someone has done it XD
People are clicking out because video is too dragging, too much side tracking. Better to go straight to the point, you’ll get more air time by viewers watching the whole video
I'd rather just be myself and have fun than worry about view count. I appreciate the feedback though!
You say “DING” one more time… 😬
