A Ned Rig Setup that Bass can't resist

  • I show the best set up for the Ned Rig. The braid, leader, rod, jig head and 3 inch senko for the the right combination. This is terrific for smallmouth, the spotted bass really bite it as well and even good sized largemouth suck it down like candy! The Ned rig is the hottest structure lure for all seasons when fished at the right depth the right way!

When i am tying on a palomar knot , instead of trying to feed folded line through the eye hole i just feed it through once and back through the other way. Much easier and this way you are not crimping your line too trying to feed it through.

Is Roland The "Best Teacher" on Bass fishing. You have ever heard. I watched a video on the Devil's Horse and how to fish it. I found one in my Antique lure cabinet. Put updated sharp hooks on it. Man, Son that bait is as good or better than a Whopper Plopper. I painted the belly orange. The bass never got off this bait. The hooks I used are Mustad #4's. Use a small swivel up front. Those hooks are sticky. So be careful! But the sound and splashing off the Devil's Horse calls them bass up and Bam! Thank you Roland! Job well done. Shawn.

Hi Roland, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge all these years. I was a live bait fisherman until I saw the Bassmasters on TV. My dad and uncle first took me fishing when I was four in 1965. He and my uncle were live bait guys from back in the day. My dad served in Korea and my uncle in WWII. They went fishing for relaxation and catching something was a plus, not the determining factor whether they had a good time. I stopped fishing after joining the navy. When my dad passed I went to Florida for the service and the next day my uncle took me fishing to remember the old times. I've been fishing ever since and passed it on to my daughter. I make it a point before putting my boat in to walk around a see if anyone needs any help. Nothing better than meeting a parent that doesn't know the first thing about fishing, but is taking their child fishing because they wanted to go. I've bailed on an entire day of fishing to help kids be successful in catching their first fish. That's better than catching a five-pounder anytime. Again, THANKS!

This. I love this bait, especially with the Z Man baits. Senko's just don't quite do as well for me. It has brought my overall bass fishing productiveness from spotty at best to acceptable. Before using the Ned, the only consistently productive method I felt completely confident with was pitching frogs in pads. Everything else....meh.

People talk about these knots as 90% etc. I have yet to break a uni-uni knot. I have snapped the knot where the bait is tied and or straightened hooks to get loose from a snag, but brake a uni to uni braid to fluorocarbon? Not yet. BTW, I don't know how old some are here, but Roland was one of my fishing hero's and I'm 56. Who here remembers John Fox fishing on Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend? GO ROLAND !!! My theory for the success of the Ned Rig is that it imitates the dragonfly nymph which is the same size and shape and crawls slowly on the bottom. They are plentiful, get to medium size because they can grow in the nymph phase for 4 years, add get big enough to attack small fry (baby bass).

I’m from Minnesota. The Ned rig was developed By guy from Wisconsin. That through the years. Designed that little mushroom head for putting little pieces of worms. :: Concept was swim it though the water column never letting hit the bottom. (( these lakes up here can be really clear )). And fines sometimes is the only way you can catch them. Since them. The real Ned head isn’t being poured no more. Everyone got it kinda wrong.
