Mr Martin, today I went fishing with the set up similar to yours.... 7ft Medium Heavy rod, bait caster, braided line with fluorocarbon leader double UNI KNOT....Texas Rig with a Bobber Stop, 1/8 oz slide weight and the world famous (297) Senko. Simple set up. And it produced.
    Was on an Outback Kayak.
Folks... Mr Martin knows the deal. Nothing funner than feelin’ that line twitch droppin’ it down and then snatchin’ that rod up to see and feel it bendin’ down with a fish on the end of it. Just pure wholesome good times.
    Than you Mr. Martin!

I watched the video several times, writing notes on how to fish the Senko but, above all, your tackle. I am not yet a sophisticated bass angler. I have just started with braided lines, leaders and so on. Never tried baitcasters. so far. I fish from the bank and can only claim to have a decent command on dragging a watermelon seed Zoom Trick Worm. The sethook I do most of the time horizontally for wider sweeping action.
I didn´t know at first you are the great Roland Martin I had heard about here in Spain on numerous occasions. I love the way you explain things (I am a Math teacher too). I am sure your students must have been delighted with you. Thank you very much Mr. Martin.

I have been meaning to write THIS comment on several other previous videos...the only thing I would recommend is can you please use one of those clip-on microphones (the separate ones that attach onto your shirt)? Because unless you are directly close to the camera microphone it becomes difficult to hear you. The one on your shirt would allow you to move around and still be loud and clear for us. Thank you. Keep up the great work. Blessings continue for you, your family, and friends. +++

I have watched you for years and years and I always learn or remember something by not only watching, but listening...I caught my first fish on a black cream worm on the 6th of June 1970...used a buggy whip fiber glass rod and a Zebco 33 with 10 lb mono (and I thought at the time that 10 lb line was too heavy)...the technique (read about worm fishing in a magazine at the barber shop) was completely different from what you just taught...supposed to watch the line and give the fish slack line when it took off with the worm, then when the line stopped, wait a few seconds and set the hook...and if the hook set did not rock the boat, you probably missed the fish...I knew the technique worked, but it took a 10 minutes...so I tied my full size torpedo back on and caught a bunch more kentuckys for the fish fry...never really worm fished again until I got my first graphite rod...

    Hey Roland,
Thank you for this informative video! These tips may be considered "basic" but your lesson isn't really basic at all.
I have heard it said, " The difference between being good at something and being great is found in paying attention to the details. This video is an excellent demonstration of this principle.
Thanks for sharing your expertise with us again!

The Senko is my #1 go to bait and here's a neat little trick that makes it even more effective. I take it out of the bag and scrunch it into a ball, then roll it around between my hands ..which opens up the plastic to expose the salt. ..because many times that first cast makes all the difference.
