Vintage Screened-In Patio Kitsch Colorful Makeover Before & After

  • Time to reveal my before and after makeover of the vacant screened-in porch! It was so dirty, dusty, and full of junk when I, found it. First it needed a good cleaning and scrub down and then I was able to put out my vintage flower power glider and homecrest chair! Hanging up the blow mold string lights that I found at an estate sale was my favorite part because I always knew I'd find a place to put them one day. Let me know in the comments what you think I should do with that weird extra L-shaped area in the patio and tell me your thoughts on the patio makeover!

The kitsch vintage outdoor pink flamingo lawn ornaments really gave the space some tacky 70s trailer vibes and I love it. The screened-in porch has so much more color and personality thanks to my kitschy vintage decor and it was all on a budget!

I LOVE how the porch turned out! The colors are popping everywhere! It looks 1000% better all cleaned up. A small project that would give you a ton of satisfaction would be to power wash the whole house. It’s super easy to do and SO satisfying! Especially on a white house 😊 Enjoy your new spaces!

Emily! The porch looks so fantastic! It's exciting to not be totally done decorating a space because you get to look for new treasures to display! You could put a vintage wire plant stand with plants in front of the rain window. They will like getting wet from time to time! Great job with the tiny pond puddle, it's exciting to see creatures using it and I'm loving that animal outtakes is begging becoming a thing! 💖

It's been so wonderful to watch you turn your new home into such a special place!! As for the empty area on your screened in porch - what about some sort of standing planter or raised garden bed? You could have flowers or even herbs in there, and the plants would probably be pretty happy with water coming in through the screens!

Great job! What a wonderful place to relax and chill. That pond turned out perfect. All you need to do is to hose it out every few weeks. To avoid mosquitoes just place the mosquito tablets in the water. They kill the mosquitoes but won't hurt wildlife. Enjoy!

Some vintage macrame plant hangars from a hook in the ceiling would be cute and a vintage wrought iron plant stand (the boxy , tall kind where you can hold a few potted plants. It's likely you would need to move them inside for a cold winter so I would choose plants that work for outdoor and indoor: monstera, rubber plant, spider, Christmas cactus. Love what you have done so far!

@@emilyretro P.S. I forgot to mention it yesterday but I think the prefect retro rug for the porch would be astroturf! We have a store down here (and just checked, it's also in Michigan) called Ollie's. Ours has astroturf rugs for super cheap (less than 30 bucks) and always in stock. Bonus retro points if you add little fake white daisies to the rug corners as a nod to the welcome rugs of my 70s-80s childhood!

Emily! You did amazing on that pond and porch! The new life you’re bringing to this space is awesome to watch!
The part of the porch that gets rained on would be great to have a long side table of plants and flowers. It would get great light AND free watering on rainy days. You could grow your own herbs or flowers to put indoors too. And you could use the underside of that narrow table for more plants or storage (watering cans and such)!
Wishing you continued blessings and abundance sweet friend!
Love the critter and blooper reels!!! ❤❤
PS. Maybe you can add a curtain rod on that side and put a long clear shower curtain (clear or with bright flowers) to cover from the rain when you don’t want it intruding as much. Then you can control when and how much rain gets in. Not sure if feasible but maybe a starting point to something else. Hugs!

The other day looking out my bedroom window, I saw a male Quail on top of a empty fountain. He was watching his mate eat and being on the lookout for her. If you can find/create a stand for your vintage umbrella, it'd be fun to open it in the alcove (unless you're superstitious). A vintage plant stand or cart of some sort would also look great over there, full of fun planters, etc. Maybe eventually some curtains (made from tablecloths or shower curtains that can handle the blowing rain). Everything looks so bright and clean! I love seeing the transition from before and after and I just found out about those light bulb/outlet thingies myself about 5 years ago and I'm twice your age! Just goes to show that you are never too old (or too young) to learn something new!🤣 Love your videos!🥰

Your patio makeover took me back to my childhood. 💚
It is decorated just like my Grandma’s was.
I would look for some macrame plant hangers for the corner areas as not to block your view.

Oh Emily, you bless my heart. Your hard work, determination and perseverance is really paying off and it shows. I love the idea of an outdoor rug under your glider and sofa table. You’re right, it will tie it all together. I think plants would be okay, but you are surrounded with so much foliage, it might be overwhelming. Just my takeaway. In the empty space, how about a vintage dresser? I also love the idea of a small table and two chairs. One more thing, a nice cozy knitted or crocheted throw blanket would bring it to the next level. Happy decorating. ❤

    • @emilyretro
      @emilyretro  Год назад +1

Yeah you’re the only person who said the plants would be overwhelming and you are the only person that gets me 100% 🤣🤣🤣 I also see it as overwhelming and why have more plants to care for when there’s too much outside already??? Haha! Thank you for understanding 😂

Find a vintage grill and use it for a planter! In our experience - used grills are not the best for cooking. We have an old Coleman planted with marigolds. You will need to drill some drain holes in the grill bottom. The grill bottom is shallow and we have about 6” of soil for the flowers. Love your videos Emily!! We love your taste and appreciation for the retro vibe.

Our Dollar Tree sells a long handled toy butterfly net for $1.25. It would make a good pool skimmer for your tiny pond. I think it is so cute. Just big enough! Are you going to add goldfish? That would be pretty but then the kitty might eat them. Lol I love a screened porch like you have. Yours turned out so colorful and fun! I know you are going to enjoybit this summer. ❤

Such a cute porch!! In that blank spot on your porch some vintage heavy metal plant holders and plants would look cool. Heavy enough that the wind doesn't knock them over. maybe put some clear plexi glass on the bottom part of that screen where the rain water splashes in. Great job!!!! I wish I had a screened in porch! I have a sunroom, but not a screened porch. OH.. also .. add some twinkle light out in your front yard! You can get solar charged ones!!!! That will be so pretty for you to look out at night!
