For having very little water pressure, I think you did a great job with what you had. Don't feel defeated. What you got accomplished was a miracle. You can only control what you have. I have been watching your channel for a while and you never disappoint! Can't say the same for some of the people you help.. How can people let things get that bad when a bit of care and up keep would avoid this all scenario? An outdoor space of your own is a treat that many would envy you, how ungrateful can you be to use it as a dumping ground? That does'nt take anything away from your incredible effort and cheerful attitude facing such neglect.. I hope they will honor your work by keeping up the good work.
Isn't it a great feeling to turn a sows ear into a silk purse? We have helped our daughter and family to do just this recently in their new home. It makes for great happiness. Well done you for making ppl so happy.

More than once when I’ve looked at the videos I think “I would give my eye teeth for some of those mulch spadefuls”. I live in South Africa near a river so my soil is sand.

Just the intro pictures, your courage level to try was way high. Pretty exciting so far. Junk removed, leaves moved off paving, a chance of color in the pavers. Blackberry root removals... The main area is already a whole lot more usable. Now you are tackling the back corner with more blackberry, and it appears to have storage/junk tucked into there. You just keep working away. (Sometimes an intrusion or overwhelmed area in a yard is from something within that got-away and other times it comes in, from another yard or area.) Under good surprises, under "dirt" in the back corner, paving goes all the way to the back. A good extra on your part, was clearing off the roof of brambles and debris. At 16 minutes along, I call this a 100% Success, whether or not anything else was done. The area is clean, attractive and can be used again. The next day... Oh how funny, an unexpected minimal amount of water. (I had wondered about a clogged or no drain.) Still, the rinse-down is another treat, the color starts coming through. You said a Rookie Error, what you might have done to compensate for no external tap, I don't know, beyond asking neighbors for some water. The idea of a chemical treatment sounds sound. It is also o.k. to "come back another day". A wonderful result and kindness on your part. On the outro, glad you can find snow and play in the city.
Staggered that anyone would ever let their garden get in such an epic mess.
You did an absolutely amazing job and no one could possibly say otherwise.
You shouldn't be quick to judge people. They could be elderly, infirm or depressed.
Here's how it happens. You are a plant person, quite knowledgeable about all concerning, you are young, you plant stuff, you have a well, you can water, it's gorgeous, you love it, you can maintain it. You love everything about it. You do it for a living, the clients come and look, everyone is amazed. The well collapses. Record drought conditions, you are aging, on a fixed income now, can't freely water, now it is expensive to water, weeds grow, ornamentals that need more water die or look scary, you get depressed, no rain, record heat, it looks hopeless, yep, that is how it happened for me. Maybe it won't happen for you, but God willing, we all age so things will happen. I am still out there trying but it's hard. You will understand some day......,
Watching you mucking out all that dirt and leaves and broken stuff made me want to cry--- my own back garden could get like that if I let it. Don't feel bad about the state of the pavers--- they were 100% better than they were when you started.
So lovely that your family got to enjoy the snow. I was visiting outside London during that time last December and got to take a nice snowy walk on Hampstead Heath.

WOW! Not sure how I missed seeing this one, but I'm glad I stumbled on to it! That was quite a lot to clear out just to get started. The berry bushes were deceiving indeed... it kept going and going. I was FLOORED at the transformation! You made use of the resources you had on hand and it worked great. Les was so pleased too. And a secret back gate was revealed as well, so awesome you found it for him. The neighbor behind will hopefully trim their bushes so that he can actually walk through it. I LOVED this one! I like them all but this was wonderful. Another selfless, awesome job. The outros really made me smile-- your family is simply delightful, and everyone getting some sledding in! Good morning Ben, neglect causes a mess! There is no manner of getting away from that. We are homeowners as well and I know all about it. You have to keep your hand at it, and it makes you feel good about yourself. It may all be paved, but the leaf compost etc., wow, unbelievable. It sure looks lovely now, at least the back will be more dry and tidy, it would be nice to sit out when the sun is shining with your friends or just you and a cup of tea. Or when Theo and Arthur ride bikes/trikes together. They'd make a great obstacle course! I can see them weaving in and out! Then Ben can save them for teaching the boys how to properly park a car when the time comes. They can practice and only have to worry about smashing cones instead of fenders!

Thanks for the snow videos at the end! That was a lot of fun to watch. Reminds me of when I was younger and my brother built a go-cart (I think Kart for you) except it didn’t have any brakes. Hahahaha we had to flip the spark plug off with a stick and then crash into the hedge to stop. Hahahaah what a great memory.
