DIY Upcycled Porch & Patio Decor: Using Stuff Headed to the Trash

- In this video, I use items collecting dust in my garage to create unique porch, patio, and outdoor decor. The upcycled items include a plant stand made from old shutters, a planter from an old magazine rack, a birdhouse from an old mailbox, an outdoor paver table into a pretty tiled looking table, a decrepit table into a planter, a piano bench into a potting bench, a coat tree upcycled with tree branches, and an upholstered bench into a wood slat bench or plant stand.

I have been holding onto an old wooden bread box. I had been trying to picture what to do with it. I really like them all. Rose Moss has always been one of my very favorite flowers. My Auntie used to call it by the real name of Portulaca.

My grandmother and mom both called it portulaca as well. Maybe it has different names in different parts of the country. Kind of like pop or soda.😃
All of them were wonderful, but that mailbox turned into a birdhouse was genius! That's the cutest thing I've seen in a while.
I can never find enough adjectives to describe your level of creativity, Sherry. Right off the bat I decided that my favorite project was the magazine-rack-turned-planter, but so many of the subsequent projects were equally as clever. YOU ARE TOO GOOD!

Spent the past weekend cleaning out an old shed on my property, old shutters, a rusty flip top mailbox, and an old vanity bench, amongst other trash is sitting on the curb. Thank goodness the trash man doesn’t come till Thursday, as I’m retrieving some “treasures” from the pile. You are just so inspiring and full of the best ideas. ❤️

I love them all but , I have to say the little table with the drawer is my favorite for sentimental reasons. My mom always called the flowers Moss Roses. One of her favorite flowers so it’s my favorite because it reminds me of my mom. The garden bench is such a clever idea. Each item ,as always, shows your talent of thinking out of the box and creating fabulous pieces.

I guess I have tough knees.😜 My garage looks so much better now. I gave a bunch of stuff to a friend who has a consignment booth, so now I can actually park in there!
I’ve often thought Sherry should use knee pads( used in brick laying) as I worry that all the kneeling will eventually cause pain. We’re thinking about you Sherry as we want these Monday videos to continue!!

Yes I would have painted the roof shingles the same green. It's so cute. I hope the birds make themselves at home in it. I've had nests built in door wreaths and I've felt kind of honored!

Loved the piano bench into the potting bench and also love the table with the horse hair on it but all was very uniquely made !
I really like the bench/chair and the magazine rack planter. I would even use it by putting in a couple of big battery operated candles in it. I so really enjoy watching your videos, you are amazing!
Nothing in your garage is considered junk by me. Our Dump runs a very successful recycling, non profit, charity business. The items in your garage would all be gone and paid for within an hour of the centre opening. Your artistic creations really touch my heart. Good for you. ❤ from Oz.

People down here in North Georgia often give away pianos to anyone that will come get them. Just like your chair video, I have no doubt that if you were given an old piano, you could make oodles of things. You are extremely creative- I love that and your sweetness.

Oh so very hard to choose just one favorite. I absolutely love what you've done to the horse-hair bench and the bird house is beautiful....then there's the planting station. Fantastic!!!!
My favorite is the former horse hair bench. It turned out terrific! It has such classic lines I can see how it could be changed up at any time with a new coat of paint to suit decor changes.
The tiled table makeover is my favorite! But the mailbox makeover is so fun!

I would have never thought to use a piano bench as a small potting bench! That was excellent and the red color just made it! The coat tree was genius, too. Oh heck, I feel that way about all of these projects!❤️
Oh, thank you! I usually paint everything green or blue, but I loved that orangey red! It was Magnolia brand spray chalk paint. Joanne knows her paint colors!

The magazine rack would have made a beautiful bed for a baby doll. But it wins my vote as a plant holder, also.
You could build a low work bench for constructing your projects. It will save your tender knees and back. Love your voice and craftiness!
Every one of them were fabulous!!! Lee going on that garage and sell them in your resale booth. Much too good to throw away. Your recycling talent is amazing and inspiring. You can use the new items for a while then sell them as you make more. Continue to invest in what you have already invested in once so don’t just throw away or donate as you have such great ideas and the donation places don’t have time to refurbish and would probably just throw them away and fill the landfills more while you make them new and usable and enjoyable once again. I know they all take time but I know you are probably already inspired to do more this week. Before you know it, that garage will be empty and your wallet full!
