Are you experiencing thermal throttling or uncomfortable temps in your gaming or workstation PC, or is your laptop getting too hot when rendering video for youtube?
Well no worries because even if others have given trouble in the past HWinfo gives you full control of your fan settings allowing custom tables to override your system settings no matter how pesky they can be.
Here I go over how to set up the manual fan control tables within the program as well as a quick little overview.

I did it and works perfectly, big thanks, but my question is that Alienware 17 R3 shouldn't turn on its CPU/ GPU fans automatically when getting hot with out this software? and which bottom I have to press to make the GPU/ CPU fans works automatically whenever getting heat? best regards mate.

anyone else here cause AWCC refuses to work? Ive had my Area 51 laptop for 2 years and AWCC has never worked properly once. So frustrating 😡
AWCC seems astoundingly pathetic to me. What is offset? You can't really set a fan curve (even if you can read it), just set basically an extra fan boost versus temp. On AWCC the cpu clock speed shows zero because of some issue with my antivirus....
I'm using Alienware Area 51 R2, trying to control my CPU fan but it doesn't have the fan option at the bottom for the version i have. Would appreciate some help.
try the 32 bit version, 64 bit is janky af

THANK YOU!!! Great video. I also noticed that in the latest version of HWinfo, it auto-fills the fan speeds for ya in the custom settings, making it easier.
sadly doesn't work for dell latitude e6420 looks like something other takes control with managing fan speed when i setup 4900rpm and press setup manual its spins up and slowing down instantly, when smashing button sometimes i get for 3 seconds high rpm cooling
@edit i set respin period at 1ms and it works now

Got an Alienware 15 r3 (i7-7700HQ, GTX 1060-6GB) here. The laptop used to use the full rpm of the fans, but after some windows updates it got quiet. So it started hitting 97C+ when playing games. Keep in mind that I am using the old 1.9 BIOS to be able to undervolt the CPU with ThrottleStop which also drops down the temperatures by A LOT. So After I've watched the video I tested HWinfo. And guess what my laptop never used more than 4000rpm on its fans. So I made it manually to crank them up to max when on full load AND IT WORKS. Laptop is loud again which means better temperatures and FPS! Thanks !

I have an Alienware Aurora R8, and I’ve been looking for a replacement for dell’s official Alienware Command Center software at customizing fan curves since it sucks. Out of all the tools I’ve tried, this is the only one working on the R8 that can communicate to the fan control unit on dell’s proprietary motherboard. Love you man!

Thanks this helped a bunch. A few win10 patches ago it stopped regulating my fan, this video helped a bunch in solving this issue.

See the pinned comment. It seems that while HWInfo is a great tool for monitoring for ALL computers, the fan control only works with certain models depending on EC(Embedded Controller) support or not. Alienware and Dell models will most likely have the fan control support, I've also had success with a couple lenovo models, though unsupported. It doesn't seem that they will be adding more support for models either, so I may have to make a new video showcasing another tool to use for those who cannot use HWInfo. I apologize for the hassle!

Yes I am missing the fan icon and it doesn't display any rpm or fans under the "sensors" tap and that is where I need help. I have tried dozens of programs now, but nothing worked cause the fans are never beeing detected, don't know why.
I have a quite modern laptop "Acer Aspire 7 (A715-71G-58SE) Intel Core i5-7300HQ 8GB DDR4 1000GB +128GB SSD GeForce GTX 1050Ti Full-HD IPS Windows 10" and would really like to control those fans, so thanks in advance if you have any ideas how to make this fan icon available.

Well it's better than having no control... But apparently the fan controller on the Dell Optiplex XE2 only has three speed settings as reported by HWInfo, 0 RPM, 1000 RPM, and _5200 RPM!_ I have no idea why Dell programmed their fan controllers with only three speed settings, but it sucks having to choose from no fan, barely any fan, or MAXIMUM JET ENGINE SPEED. Thinking about buying a separate fan controller board and just taping it somewhere inside the case and connecting the fans to that instead...
Yes, I don't get why the fan speed changes in STEPS on Dells and not smoothly based on a curve. I've encountered ONCE a Latitude laptop that changed fan speed smoothly on a curve, as do all other brands of laptops. BTW the controller is of course capable of setting any fan RPM... there's just no software or way to instruct it.

Anyone has this issue with their Alienware laptop, where the fan never kicks unless you launch HWiNFO or whatever third party software? it used to work on it's own in the past.

@@HDDoggyStyle viable option for sure but this allows fans to ramp up when gaming and slow down when web browsing etc. Both can work!

Thanks, HWiNFO64 is the only software that got my PWM case fans controlled. I'm using incompatible out-of-the-box hardware, so it's pretty remarkable I'm getting any control at all. I'm blasting the case fans at full speed and keeping the CPU to system auto and the GPU is being controlled by "Fan Control". Here's to hoping neither of them stop working.
EDIT: Nvm, I had to set the CPU to custom auto, because the system auto wasn't taking care of the CPU at higher temps. I also had to check the respin period option as the proprietary settings were fighting HWiNFO64's settings.

1) What is the maximum rpm for Alienware 17r4, can't find it nowhere in the internet
2) Also when i set the gpu sesnor, there is no option for the tempreature 1 source, do you know why?

Awesome video! The only working method for my laptop. I have some issues tho, the sound crushes and the screen freezes every few seconds when HWinfo is running. It's barely noticeable for the most of time but gets really obvious when playing videos. Anyone has the same problem?
Edit: Ahh I found the solution on their forum, just disable the "Dell EC" sensor and the problem is fixed.

If you want to go back to they system stock settings you can click the "system auto" button in the fan control.
If you want to try and tweak your fan curve open the custom settings and change the temperature thresholds for when the fans start to ramp up.
Thank you, I have an Alienware 15 R3 with gtx 1070 and i7-7700hq, I only have problems with temps playing AAA games in my 165hz so I cap my fps, I'm on bios 1.9 so I still have undervolt with throttlestop, I enabled the FAN to performance in the bios but it's a constant RPM(5400 for cpu and 5900 for gpu) and is not adaptive and I hate the noise, If I disable FAN Performance in the bios, the fans never kicks in to its high rpm when gaming so I get high temps around 95C when playing MHW or CS2. Now with this, my temps are manageble so thank you!!
I have an Inspion 7757 gaming laptop. the fan gets kind of loud. i've searched maybe 7 different fan control software and methods. this one seems to respond a bit. but not sure. so many bells and whistles. Looking for a simple "quite mode". I have one on my mac called Macs Fan Control that works and is very simple. There has to be a way to set a limit to the fan speed so it doesn't get so loud.
another site told me to use DellFanCMD and FanControl in tandem, or something called BIOS and another pice of fan control in tandem, but using multiple software, you have to be some kind of genius, and many of these software don't even have desktop icons, you instal them, and then they sort of vanish into the computer somewhere. using too software to do one thing seems like a lot. and there is no manual for it.

I'm planning on doing a case swap for my XPS 8930 and adding a bunch of fans, since the BIOS does not have any way to control the fans and SpeedFan didn't help either I was afraid the computer would run the fans super loud since it would think it only has the single OEM fan. With this I can make sure they only run as loud as they need to.
Just picked up a used R3 and Fan was loud af with BIOS in performance mode. Afterburner wasn't doing squat so found your vid and it's working like a dream. Your temp settings are great too. Much appreciated, cheers man. :) Just one difference is the settings aren't along the top under Program any more, if you right click the HWInfo icon in the system tray you'll find them there.
seem not working on 7424 rugged. i tried to start or stop fan, do nothing.

Resize the window. Make it larger horizontally and it should pop up at the bottom. I believe that happened to me as well.

open up the settings window and go to the "safety" tab. Theres a check box for "EC Support" if thats on turn it off and if its off try turning it on and then save and restart the program and see if that helps.
This video is great! I have same 980M GPU as you, but Hwinfo cant detect my GPU temperature. how you have GPU options for temperature 1 sources in your video? did you disable your intel graphics cards?

lol i need to click the fan everytime I start my computer? that kind of sucks, wish there was an app that just auto started into the system tray and did what it had to do.
Yes it is a downside for sure. I'm sure if you were a programmer you could easily write a script to automate the start, but I dont posses these skills yet. At least you can set the sensors tab to open on startup, and the fan icon is right there. I don't power down my PC very often so it hasnt been an issue for me. Thanks for watching!

The weirdest thing happened to me. I run the program, I see the fan icon, I click on it and see the settings. Since I got something else to do I shut down the laptop and leave it for later. When I return I turn it on, I run the program and the fan icon isn't there anymore. Any suggestions?
A few days ago my old laptop m17x started to turn on the fans to the maximum, even with temperatures of 40 °. i don´t know why, so this video was very useful, thank you!
Interesting. My M17 did the same thing a few days ago. This video helped me too. I can't adjust the GPU fan though. I can only adjust the CPU fan, so I'm a little confused there.

@@harshjituri1122 I deactivated the hardware acceleration of the edge browser and I don't remember if I did the same thing in any section of windows. Reboot and it back to normal. The key is "hardware acceleration" i guess its not compatible any more.

Downloaded it for Alienware m17 r3 and there’s no fan icon. I’m about to throw this out the window
on dell g5 it works but not as i wanted it to . if u press on the fan icon it will trun off the fans like trying to make the settings work then they will run again if u did this 5 - 7 times it will turn off the fans at all and even if the cpu/gpu get to the limit that i made in the settings and even if u restart the windows and do not run the program the fans will not work . only if u turn of the system completely then the fans will run like usually but i think it is bit of risk . so i will use this method only when i need full quite system and will not overheat it .
When I set it to custom it works, but when I restart the system all the settings are lost and the fan is going fast again.
I did save the settings with the exit button.
