    Although my NUC 10 has only one fan it definitely needs a program like this.
    Using the “airport” analogy is very close. This is a new build
    And the fan sounds like a Pratt & Whitney JT9D especially when trying to sleep.
    I’ve read that there are “background” apps in win 10 that task the system (when I’d suppose its idling)
    Thanks for the video!!!

    The "Mix" function is really cool as well. It allows a fan curve to be set up to monitor multiple temps. So you could set one up for the CPU and GPU and when one of them reaches the set point it activates that curve on both the CPU and GPU. That way you do not have to set up separate fan curves for each. This fan control software is extremely customizable, it truly is one of the best I have used and it is highly recommended.
    I will add that this does not work as well with some older hardware so your results may vary from one system to another. It will all depend on internal sensors and controllers.

      @@TheLateral18 The software does not know what fan it is detecting it just know there is a fan. You have to decipher which fan is which. The CPU fan will be detected, you just have to label it correctly.

    I've been using this since Oct. 2020 and it is good and it leverages something you showed a week ago or so, Open Hardware Monitor. I use it to control my case fans but more importantly my GPU fans to use a little more aggressive profile but still keeping with reasonable noise levels which can get you almost the same performance as overclocking without any of the instabilities. While you can also control your GPU fans with something like MSI Afterburner Fan Control works better because as far as I can tell it's completely transparent and thus more stable in many games.
    Up until a few weeks ago I was using it with a MSI RTX 2080 Seahawk X which is a hybrid watercooled GPU. In stock configuration the fans and pump are tied together so if you boost the fan speeds you also boost the pump speed which can actually hurt cooling because if the fluid is moving too fast it can't absorb as much heat off the die and if the fluid is moving too fast through the radiator it can't release as much heat. So what I did was replace the fan on the radiator with a pair of Noctua fans in push-pull and hooked them to the motherboard and then used Fan Control to run the rad fans and pump on two different profiles. What this allowed me to do was keep the temperatures below 60 C even under 100% load which in turn kept the boost clock fixed at 1995 Mhz which gave me a 3-5% boost in FPS across several games I play while keeping the computer whisper quiet. With overclocking the best I could get was a 4-7% gain but at the cost of more heat and more noise as well as the inherent instability in several games that just don't like overclocking (AC Odyssey and Valhalla, heavily modded Skyrim etc. ) I'm currently using it with a RTX 3070 Ti but haven't really gotten into fully tuning it because I'm waiting to do that when I upgrade from a 3700X (65w TDP) to a 5800X (105w TDP) which is on a 360 AIO that is currently not controlled by Fan Control because it's really quite oversized for a 65w TDP CPU but that will change when I load it up with a 5800X When I built the system in late 2020 I wanted it to be able to run a 5900X if I wanted to eventually and I'd rather be overcooled than undercooled and since I got a unit with no worthless RBG on the pump or fans I was able to get it for the same price as a 240 all of which had RBG driving up the costs with zero gain in performance. I have a solid side case (Phanteks Eclipse P600s) because a windowed case allows too much RFI to bleed into the Vector Network Analyzer I use, so I wouldn't be able to see any RGB lighting anyway. Apparently most people want the window and RGB fans so I was able to get it at a 20% discount over the windowed/RBG model ... Saved another $25 on the DDR4 by getting the exact same model model without the RBG lights

    *FAN CONTROL... for modded GPU!*
    When I modded my GTX1080 with Noctua fans I ran into a bit of a problem. I had bad COIL WHINE from the extra power draw the fans needed. I ran one of the fans to the motherboard instead (the one NOT over the GPU processor). It worked out fairly well, but I had to control based on CPU temp which wasn't ideal. I couldn't find any great fan software until "FAN CONTROL" which allowed me to control that 2nd GPU fan (again plugged into the motherboard) based on the GPU temperature... the main GPU fan just uses the EVGA Precision software custom profile... and then I have every other fan just using the UEFI settings as they worked perfectly.
    (BTW, when I enabled "Core Isolation" for Windows 11 my Asus AI Suite III software prevented my system from booting. Specifically the "asio2.sys" driver. I had to disable SVM (virtualization) in UEFI just to be able to boot (which in turn prevents Core Isolation from working). I couldn't enable Core Isolation again as it detected the asio2.sys driver now even after I uninstalled the Asus software. I had to remove all references from the Registry. Just a warning to anybody who wants to use Core Isolation.)

    This is decent fan control software for Windows. One of the better ones with the adjustments and simple to use. One slight drawback noticed. This doesn't have the temperatures as my AMD fan software has. I believe it would benefit the user when you can see the temperatures along with the fan RPM.

    No idea why it took so long to find this software. I've donated $20, using it on two PC's, Intel z77 and z390. THE most useful function (among several) is being able to create a mix of CPU and GPU curves. Now have the intake fans ramp up with GPU and dropped GPU temps substantially (and as a result nVidia 'GPU Boost' maintains higher boost clocks), particularly on the z390 which is in a Fractal R5 case with a big 14cm bottom fan. Behaviour with the z77 (a decade old MB) is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a bit flaky, the fan editor needs two goes for each graph edit to stick, and it broke completely a few days ago (5/18/22, .json file disappeared and any further attempts to edit froze it, had to start from scratch). However, I suspect this might have been because the program tried to update mid-edit, I'm going to cut internet when editing from now on. It might be be a good idea for the program to notify and ask for confirmation before updating. Both MB's are Asus, being able to completely dispense with Asus AI suite (hence Fan xPert) fills me with joy.

  • @ScottGrammer
    @ScottGrammer 2 года назад +3

    I've been using it for a while, and I've noticed one issue: When experimenting with overclocking, sometimes the system crashes - that's normal when tinkering with overclock settings. But once in a while, such a crash will knock out the .json file that Fan Control uses to store all your settings. Then you have to set it all up again. I've taken to manually backing up this file. After sending a donation to the author, I emailed him and let him know about this. There is one other thing I'd like to see him add: a button that runs all fans at maz for benchmarking or stress testing.

    • @EliteRock
      @EliteRock 2 года назад

      Same (but only once so far). I have a suspicion it's because the app updates automatically (and invisibly) and tries to do it at the wrong moment occasionally, i.e. mid-edit. Same as you, I keep a backup of the .json. I think from now on I'll cut internet when editing.

    • @willatkins9686
      @willatkins9686 2 года назад

      Short answer is Yes. It depends on how Fan Control software piggy backs on the graphics card control software. I left my Saphire Card software alone, told the inflow case fans to follow GPU temp, and when the Saphire fans cut in ( 55° C) to ramp up Top exhaust fans. Rear exhaust follows CPU temp. Also motherboard ( ASRock) temp sensor has a syn fan curve which control the fan hub . Thus 3 sets of fans (9 case fans) all work in syn! See Jaytwocents video from last week!

But when I name and save all my fans and get back to the main tab all the controls are greyed out (both curve and manual control) but it shows me all the fans RPMs correctly. I am clueless what to do with it. All the fans are PWM and are set correctly in bios. I am baffled why the app controls the fans in the setup phase correctly and afterwards doesn't allow me to control anything. I've tried restarting the PC but to no avail.

I've been trying to find something to detect all the case fans I have (5 in total) but they're connected to y-splits and i'm wondering if this is the issue. I'm hoping with this new z790 that issue will be less of a problem. All I have so far to control my fans are this Omen Hub (it's an omen 25l prebuilt) but after I replace this CPU and MB it'll be an entirely different computer altogether. It's an MSI Mag z790 tomahawk and I know they have some software you can use for things like this. Idk.

    For some reason this software only detected two fans in my system. It says it can't detect the others. I'm sure it's a great program, for I guess not for me :/
    I've been trying to find a way to control my AIO fans speed, but nothing works.

    I have try this software, they tell that i can control all fans.
    The software detect not all fans, but control can i 1 fan. It detect not the fans (6 x LL 120) who are at my Commander Pro, ore the 3 gpu fans at my RX 6700 xt. How can it be?

    Here's a question. Every PC fan I've ever seen has a female connector for it's power source, every molex connector I have ever seen has a female end to connect to it's component, and the only thing I commonly hear a molex cable being used for are PC fans, so how do they connect? It's so bizarre that this seems like the biggest and maybe even only big question when connecting a molex to a pc fan, yet I cannot find a way to word this question in google or in forums that even brings up other people having this question. Am I living in the twilight zone?

      Using a molex connector for. Adam, will deliver full voltage at all times to the fan, and it cannot be controlled via software...
      However, some molex to fan header adapters have a single wire that breaks out from the adapter, so that the motherboard can read it's speed. But the power and speed will always be stuck at 100%
