      I don't know if the reason is whether UEFI is open or not.
      Omen Command Center, for instance, fully operates on clocks, voltages and fan speeds (with curve editing). The firmware settings contain bits of information which allow control to be exerted outside BIOS. Third Party software does not have any bit or register map so it cannot control several things (except for Throttlestop - which depends on the access to specific registers).
      I honestly don't understand how OEMs don't allow for access to fan curves, voltages, clocks...freely. You can put in place several safeguards against nonsensical or dangerous settings and still allow some leeway for changes.
      Case in point:
      - fan curves editing - make sure a default curve is in place, one that kicks in when users want settings too low (the silence crave)
      - PROCHOT values (do not allow prochot values higher than a certain value; but allow users to set lower values)
      - turbo power limits (give leeway to take advantage of the potential of cpus, make sure defaults kick in if the cooling system isn't able to consistently deal with heat build-up)
      Laziness and low costs drive OEMs, though.

    • @HardwareForGamers
      @HardwareForGamers  2 года назад +3

      You shouldn't really need different settings, that's the point of the graphs. You can have the fans spin up as things get warmer. As to what percentage to have them at. Idle and browsing you want them as low as you can get them without thermally throttling. Again when gaming, you want to have the fans cooling well enough that nothing is thermally throttles. It's something you just need to play with.

      I think the way this program works is that if you don't have the toggle switched to "on" for any of the individual fans, it will resort to what's in the BIOS. Assuming you didn't boot into BIOS and change your fan speeds/curves in there, that will have all your fans spinning at the "default" speed.
