    You don't actually have to set up the fan curve via the advanced menu. Press the plus next to the temperatures in the config window. Your fans will be listed. Select the fan that cools that component. Also set the desired temperature for said component. (You CAN rename these.) If you're not worried about a component or it doesn't show up correctly you can untick the checkbox and it will be ignored. Then go to speeds (also renamable.) Set the minimum and maximum values for each fan. Your max will be ignored if your components go over your warning setting and go 100%. Finally click Automatically variated to let SpeedFan know it should control that fan. Also Jay since you can't see your RPMs I'd suggest unticking everything in the Fans tab as this will hide the speeds in the main interface, and giving the custom curve graph a right click on a dot if you like everything exact.

    SPEEDFAN has got to go down in history as the Absolute Most Cumbersome piece of software ever created. For a software that is this troublesome, one would be better off letting their pc melt. No reason that it should be this much of a cluster to adjust a fan, NO reason, NONE.........
    You would have less time and effort working on the job to earn the money to buy a fan controler and then adjust your fans as needed.

    My motherboard is pretty old and it only had 2 ports of 4 pins and 3 ports of 3 pins. Also RPM lecture didnt work for me, had to hear the fans to know the speed.

    I used this guide years back and forgot some key details like changing the control mode in advanced. Recently went from a R5 1600 to 5600 and reinstalled windows too and my system has been noisy every since. I did what I thought I needed to set it up but should have pulled up a guide. It will be nice to not hear the whine of my fans when trying to watch and play stuff.
    The only main piece of additional information is how to set speedfan as a startup program since you can't just do that with the built in windows menu. Going to do that now that I have the fan speeds tweaked.

    I had a lot of issues with speedfan, where when it was running it would cause my computer to bluescreen or just run really slow(Caused tons of constant stuttering). it happened on 2 different setups, a 3570k with a z77 extreme 3, and a 4790k with a z97 classified.
    this was over 2 hard drives, and an ssd with various versions of windows 7 and 10.
    Never figured out why it caused these issues, but after uninstalling speedfan it solved my problem.
    Not saying the speedfan software is bad or anything, I used it a few years ago with no issues, but I stick to BIOS fan control and fixed fan speeds nowadays.

    • @tbddevelops
      @tbddevelops 8 лет назад +1

      +LNTech Addiction I haven't used Speedfan, but based upon watching how it starts up in Jays video, it looks like the developer is updating everything in a single thread. This means that the UI "locks" up. This is normally what people would describe as "freezing". Being that the software is reading a lot of stuff off the machine, it could genuinely be a problem with the software getting stuck reading something. But if it's not, when you start up Speedfan I would avoid click anything until it's up, you can see the buttons and move the window around without jerkiness. Then you know it's pretty much finished loading.

    In order to set speedfan to control your fans 1st of all disable fans control in your BIOS (actually bios takes his hands off the fans and hands over to the os which in turn will be controlled by Speedfan) so 1st of all disabled fan control in BIOS, then after loggin into windows and starting up Speedfan you go to advanced and set all fans to CONTROLLED BY SOFTWARE make sure you tick on the right bottom corner "remember this" for all fans. after you did that...click ok, and you need to know which fans is which...you should be able to control each from PWM in mainscreen...turn of each one at a time and see which pwm is for which fan. After that you program fans in advanced control accordingly

  • @queegfivehundred8197

    Thanks for the guide, I used speedfan 15+ years ago but only for monitoring. With your guide I had it controlling a newly added bottom intake fan depending on GPU temperature within minutes, working just as well as the custom fan curve for the Noctua NH-U14S that I setup in BIOS after much trial and error. Next step is to remove some of the other fans from the Define R5 controller and let speedfan control them instead of having them always running at the medium setting.
    FWIW the fans plugged into my Asrock X370 Taichi defaulted to Smart Fan IV, then were controllable after setting to Manual. I didn't try the other options for Speed Cruise, Thermal Cruise or any of the dozen DO NOT USE! entries (the latter for obvious reasons).

    WOW, Still going. I remember using SF in the early WinXP days, maybe 98/ME, but yeah, been around a long time. Its big claim to fame is that it was really the only thing back then, that was free and worked with just about every mobo back then. I remember having to unplug fans and watch the screen to figure out which was which.

Asus AI Suite was great when back when it worked on Win 7. Won't even install on Win 10 for my 1155 board so I guess this is the only option. Sheesh using this is like going back in time 20 years
