the gigabyte software is actually such a gigantic security flaw that it is wild that windows even lets you install it. a kernel mode driver that grants unrestricted access to a low level bus without any level of verification or signing.
The thermaltake it’s WORSE, it uses a scheduled task that runs with full admin access to initiate itself and it caused me multiple BSOD
@@VioFax no fr, the scheduled task apart from initiate the program with full permissions 💀, it checks for file integrity, and there was a DLL file that was in essence a version of HWInfo’s engine ( I assume it was usted to show the thermals). After doing some research, I found that the DLL caused the BSOD because it conflicts with Corsair Software, it seems it was patched but TT never updated it. Anyways every time I deleted the DLL it re-appeared up because of the scheduled task up until I uninstalled the TT software.
I agree. It's even bad that on my Gigabyte Z270 mainboard I have in my main PC, Gigabyte's own software even tried to force an upgrade of the installed RGB Fusion version to a version incompatible with the board, while also trying to forcefully install Gigabyte bloatware I don't want! I pretty much uninstalled all of their software. To be fair, I originally wanted an ASUS ProArt mainboard but, due to budget issues, I ended up buying a used Gigabyte mainboard bundle from someone on my local online classifieds.
@@VioFax I'm sure the "ex" Intelligence agents that work in leadership positions at these corporations would never do anything like that.
This would have been more secure in the 80s! ;) No-one would have dreamed of making a lighting bus which could mess with anything without CPU help.
Couldn’t help but notice that Corsair wasn’t on that list of manufacturers….
Of course they aren't

Gigabyte with RGB fusion too... 😢
@@GamingTales1 RGB Fusion has to be one of the worst RGB Software that exists.
Very annoying to see that
open rgb is amazing. Having built in rgb control in windows would be pretty cool though
Man I miss RBG. She was the GOAT.
Well this will hopefully standardize the RGB protocol such that openRGB can piggyback that to work just the same
Damn, Daniel. Thanks for the tip. I'm recently using some RGB and I hate system resources going into the drain over nothing. Microsoft has had some wins late (no pun intended), but I always bet on passionate independent devs. Let's see how this unfold.
it was super buggy for me and i was unable to get most (or all? i cant remember) of my devices working. im sure it's great but only when it works
As someone who uses fedora linux thats my only option and I like it 😂
RGB Fusion is hilariously bad even for RGB software. This would be a nice solution
The bigger problem with RGB, is is hard to avoid if you have to get newparts
Ya and stuff like ram often doesn't let you turn them off
@@littlejack59 set the color of your RAM to black.... Thats one way I have found to effectively turn off the RGB on the RAM sticks.
The way I avoid them is to look for non-gaming PC components, as it's usually the fancy gamer stuff that has lighting effects.
just turn the light off. there always has to be a way to to that.
@@gman4141007Problem is, sometimes bloatware must be installed to turn off the lighting.
I hate having to regularly set my RGB settings to "off".
You can probably create a startup script that does that for you
@@littlejack59 Yes, but it shouldn't be this way...
Do they reset to on or something, that is shitty. I turned that stuff off on day one and haven't thought about it since. MSI center was the app I was forced to use. there is still some MSI thing running in the background according to task manager, but it doesn't show up in the taskbar and it doesn't use much ram (18MB) so whatever.
If it works, it'll be nice to have one less piece of malware needed. You've still got windows itself, but hard to get rid of that for most people.
I had to download four of these programs just so I could flip a toggle to turn them off. lol
so you can turn those bad light off i did not know that
I'd just cut the wire to the RGB light and be done with it.
This is why I'll actually pay extra for RGB free components. You actually need the software running all the time to keep the lights off. Even those which theoretically support a protocol where you can program the lights and then uninstall the software, you're always just one rogue Windows update away from the return of dreaded default unicorn vomit.
@@Farengast why there isnt a solid color as default, like just white light for example boggles my mind, does anyone actually enjoy unicorn vomit all the time? so annoying

My Blackwidow Chroma V2 isn't supported.

When I built my PC after 20 years since the last time, I built a ZERO RGB one, or as much as possible. It was COVID and as such, had to go with some parts that were readily available, like the GPU and Power Supply has RGB, but you never see the Power Supply's and the PNY 3090 I got can turn that off. THOUGH, it is where I learned there's a NON-RGB premium. Similar to Non-Smart Appliance premium nowadays.
Some PC cases have PSU shroud cutouts, specifically so you could see your PSU RGB and/or PSU LCD screens 😅
My first ever build was a full tower Thermaltake Core X71 with 2x360mm rads, 6x120mm rgb radiator fans, 2x200mm rgb air intake fans, rgb pump, rgb cpu block, rgb gpu block, rgb reservoir, rgb psu
My fiancée legit was not able to sleep because this thing was so bright in the next room
Now I'm legit running an open bench, all black hardware except gpu(factory waterblock is of course with rgb)
I enjoy the simple look without the horrible software needed
@@Kibirotubas LCD displays I get. That's actually useful information at a glance. RGB not so much, though I know with like CPU blocks and GPUs you can customize that RGB to be semi-informative by giving you different colors for performance modes, overheating, etc.

I've always been amazed at how terrible most RGB control apps are. I can't think of a single one thats easy to use but still flexible.
Openrgb.
The only one you'll need. If your device isn't supported, dump the protocols and ask to be added to the support list. Takes like 3 mins to dump everything you need.
openrgb 😊
@@vendetta.02 I wouldn't say easy to use. But I definitely think it's better than the very, very low bar set by the others. In particular I remain absolutely baffled by how often SignalRGB gets recommended. It is garbage tier software plain and simple.

This is great - OpenRGB would likely benefit from this as well, meaning that support on Linux would get better too.
😂😂😂
Thanks to Microsoft.
I hope they do a video on whether or not the new standard actually works across multiple manufacturers
Noticed it was already enabled and did basically nothing. How do i actually use it then? Because turning off "Lighting Controling Apps in foreground" didnt change it. Do i have to uninstall all rgb software?
Pretty nifty, that xkcd comic doesn't really apply when windows has the power to shove it down everyone's throat, which is kinda nice
Yup, they can make it a requirement if you want your xbox peripherals to be officially listed, and make every future first party games only support their own api
They won't. It'll probably just be basic support for basic control and you'll still need the third party app for more granular control. They're good to their business partners where it matters for them, and only just good enough to users.
@@Aeduo Sometimes the needs of their business partners and users can align, so I'll be hopeful. There's no point in supporting the builtin windows thing if you need a separate app anyway
I observed a noticeable loss in brightness on my keyboard backlight, but couldn't figure out the cause at first.
Turned out that it was Windows 11 and this feature, that added support for my Logitech model. After disabling Dynamic Lighting I finally got my full brightness back.
Which you can MAX IT OUT since THERE IS an option exists
I like how Riley's shirt was controlled by different RGB software... again!
The only RGB in my pc is the gpu and i cant even see it from my chair.
The neat thing I like about my Powercolor 7900 XT, is that it has a hardware switch to disable all the lights. And a Dual Bios.
with the windows dynamic lighting, my AIO pump has RGB does it require the USB connection to work? this is the one I have Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB 360mm Performance Liquid CPU Cooler and my AsRock Challenger Pro RX 6800 has RGB too tried to use the windows tool no change.
iCue keeps not being able to find my K95 keyboard when it reboots... but I just woke it up from sleep, and magically it found it now!
I am so sick of manufacturer-specific control panels being so hilariously unreliable. Please please please standardize it already!
@sorak185: I just had the same problem with a new K100 Optical. I RMA'd it back to Corsair for the K100 Cherry MX Speed and the problem went away. Why...just...why, Corsair?
I went back to iCue 4, works for me
Wait. So there's now a single spot in Windows where I can turn off all of those stupid LED lights? This has made my day.
tried it. the only supported peripherals i have like my mouse and keyboard don't do anything when i turn this option on for them.
I tried it on my Asrock B550M Steel Legend (using the firmware from a different board because they abandoned B550 boards), and it seems like the Windows 11 RGB stuff forgets the color settings when the screen is locked. It also tended to repeatedly blink a bit of the default color pattern before Windows 11 overwrites it.
I had to flash back to stock, but now I have the wrong motherboard's RGB controller firmware on it. I asked their support what firmware file to flash to get the correct firmware, and they said: oh, just send in the motherboard for replacement. That sounds like a pain, why not just tell me what command to run to flash it back?
Do i need the apps installed anyway? Also, asrock and gigabyte are already compatible?
I don't get the spring sell... what aberage user needs to buy that many replacement-springs?
I very much like how my 0 LED setup syncs its color really well with the darkness of my room and my heart.
This is my choice too! ;) However, the lack of an illuminated keyboard does restrict how dark my room can be. I would like an illuminated keyboard, but only if it has physical controls on the keyboard itself, not by some software that thinks it's clever.
Running Swafans and thinking of running lian li strimmer rgb extension any ideas on which controllers will help me not need a ton of different controllers to have to connect it all?
I have an acer nitro 17 and now my rgb keyboard is stuck in “breathing” mode, incant change it to nothing else, the only othe option available is to set lights color by area, somebode knows how i can fix it?
right when aura sync stopped sucking so hard too. all my stuff is already asus anyway so ill keep using aura sync but its nice to have the options in the future.
ive got parts from razer, asus, gskill, lianli in my pc. was a nightmare having all the individual software suites for each manufacturer, so im at least mildly content with signalrgb taking control. just had a look at the microsoft dynamic lighting and unfortunately appears none of my components support it. could free up so much system resources if i could just set all devices to a solid colour matching my windows accent colour which is basically what ive manually set in signalrgb anyway.
4 of my computers are current gen, and none of them are supported by dynamic lighting.. guess I'll find out in 4-5 years if they ever get it to work
OpenRGB works most of the time for me but I choose not to do RGB. The software can be so bad if you select dynamic lighting it'll take too much resource.
Motherboard manufactures should have done this within the BIOS, and not with Windows only software. This is not what Windows needs to do.
How about no??? It's bad enough that nowadays they have built-in support for Windows OEM logo (why is that necessary again???), let non-essentials be non-essentials... oh and the default should be solid non-blue for peripherals and off for internals!!! Also, it's up to the device's manufacturer to support other OSes, not the mobo's.
@@erikkonstasIf I recall correctly there was a vulnerability on some motherboards due to custom boot logo, creating an attack surface. It was something like changing the logo allowed for unsigned code execution.
@@xpforevergaming8609 Yeah, LogoFAIL, which is why I mentioned that... and yes, the backdoor is none other than the classic buffer overflow 😂
As an embedded engineer, I totally *disagree* with putting RGB nonsens in the BIOS! A BIOS should be utilized for boot and other important configurations only, not some childish light-show controls!
The fact that an RGB motherboard connector exists at all, is a disgrace in itself. If they asked me to design some RGB controller, I would plain out refuse to utilize this connector at all! I would simply use an additional FTDI to serial converter IC, creating a completely separated communication bus for the RGB lights.
I've build dozens of industrial devices this way, sure my software had the occasional bugs and crashes during it's initial alpha release, yet my software has never caused any full blown BSOD's at all!
@@timmy7201 I can see both sides of the BIOS debate, but I very much agree with putting lights on a port which doesn't require crazy drivers. There's no need!
"It's spring!"
Living in Finland, I really really wish it was spring already 😅
Ah, the Corsair Vengeance with RGB LEDs. I still have my Corsair Vengeance K70 Silver with just blue LEDs. But I'm gonna fix it up, cause many of the LEDs are dead and even more very dim now, so I'll change the switches away from reds, and swap the LEDs to ones with different colors.
I just use open rgb and Artemis together to control all my lighting through "one" program, you just have a server running with open rgb then everything is controlled through Artemis. I would be open to trying it if it is an option for windows 10 users but I'm not upgrading to windows 11 just for lighting control I already have at my fingertips in a pretty unobtrusive way.
thats all well and good but i still need both icue and razer synapse to load different profiles or edit button layout/macro keys so kinda pointless
Ha! My brother has his keyboard backlight break, turned out windows thought it could do more than it actually could and it bugged out.
What software controlled the T-shirt changes
I just run openRGB super light on performance tried signal before that it was a little heavy until i found openRGB.
Try out Artemis to actually design the effects, it connects to OpenRGB and works kind of like an After Effects type compositor for your effects. Can do all sorts of cool stuff with it, I once played Bad Apple!! on all of my peripherals
I would prefer RGB control from a BIOS UI instead. For example MSI Mystic light cannot remember the state on boot and if I uninstall it the animation becomes garbled after pc restart.
how I do it on my Mac studio ?
I’ve been playing with this for a few months now actually and it’s neat, but is certainly still quite buggy.
They don't need to make the LEDs the same. They just need some way for them to be calibrated, and then ideally have a color profile built in--or even just a calibration code.
I even run into the problem with a first party app on my smart light bulbs. The colors in the app don't match the bulbs, and changing the hue is not consistent at different brightness and saturation levels.
If I had an app that would let me calibrate it, having me choose colors and then adjust until the color on screen was closest, this could be perfectly in sync. Heck, even let people share profiles, ala Steam controller configs.
does anyone know if dynamic lighting will come to windows 10?
MSI mobo lights have always the HUE slightly off in comparison to every other component, even the strips that are directly connected and controlled from the mobo itself....
I noticed that with my b450 tomahawk max, it annoyed the fuck out of me tbh. glad I upgraded away from msi
@@JETBLACKPRIEST Hmmm, I'm also in the b450 chipset, mine is a B450M Mortar Titanium, maybe is just that generation of products...
The biggest reason I thought rgb sucked was all the software. This is a terrific idea. As for the mismatching led colours, perhaps they could have a tool where you give it a live camera feed of the lights and it tunes the colours so they all match.
Of even just a tool that lets you manually tweak the light per device
@@Erowens98Calibrators for monitors already exist, it's faster and more accurate to use technology to tweak technology :P
@@Zapnl a good calibrator for a monitor costs hundreds of dollars. Your eyeballs might not be acurate, but they cost nothing.
I'll be interested when you can link the lights, on the individual components, to their temperature.
Red for thermal throttling, orange for very hot, yellow for warm etc.
Not like you'd suspend the machine when it goes red tho, like you do want to use it right?
Until Windows gets that granular, I'll keep using OpenRGB Hardware Sync plugin for that.
I mean... M$ doesn't have the best track record either. I wouldn't assume this will solve the RGB software woes. May just be an instance of "you were supposed to defeat them, not join them."
@Techquickie -- why is OpenRGB ignored here?
This feels like every new JS framework. It's always supposed to fix everything, but in the end it's just one more JS framework. And so are the next 5.

A more likely solution is a per array white balance adjustment in the software.
Situation: There are 14 competing standards.
People: "14?! Ridiculous! We need to develop one universal standard that covers everyone's use cases!" "Yeah!"
Soon: There are 15 competing standards.
Yep. :) I mean, it might not happen this time as M$ has a lot of power and influence and people don't really want multiple controls, but y a never know.
Next build I'm going no RGB Small factor PC, my mjaor annoyance with RGB is the amount of wires for cable management .
what's the point of me having Dynamic lighting on my laptop that doesn't support RGB? or anything thon it that has RGB?
Guys, does anyone have suggestions for an RGB app that allows dynamic lighting (where the lighting mirrors whats on the screen)?
Tried openrgb but it straight up just crashes my system if I open the app and then have to restart my system. Signalrgb, although shows it has the feature, but for the love of god haven't been able to eneable that.
And finally MSI software, it works, but its just suck up like 50% of CPU at idle with like tons of unwanted processes running in the background
The only RGB I like are those used for white light to display the components (Fixed white is preferable). Red and green LEDs for status lights are also fine to me
It’s Spring! You know what that means? “Prepare for Satellite Rain.”
I just want the ost for this
Yeah, except that i have Logitech G560 speakers that are set to have RGB on the screen sampler option. Win 11 Dynamic Lighting has no such option and it would be ok if i wanted to have all RGB synced to 1 color, but thankfully i can disable it only on the speakers.
Riley holds LTT Media Group together. He’s like the French horn in a woodwind quintet; you wouldn’t think they’re necessary but they’re the glue of the group.
heres an example. Corsair AF120's come in a white rgb version. the more expensive Corsair LL120 have addressable rgb. and the vengeance ddr4 ram is also addressable. the more expensive fan cant make the same white as the RAM and the cheaper AF120. speaking of different LED's of different brands, some brands in this case dont even use the same LED's between products.
Even if they the same, white will always look of from one rgb cluster to another. You will need some rgbw clusters to get a consistent white, and I don't think there are any pc products that have that.
Missed opertunity to say 'rain of savings'
Heck yes, even gaming motherboards have really poor bios and associated apps. You know software that just makes stuff blink is going to be garbage.
Why can't the standard include a color profile like they do for monitors, that'd help them match up
Nice shirt change lol you update your own RGB settings?
Wouldn't this new standard based on HID only cover USB devices? If so, what about other RGB stuff that does not connect via USB, like graphics cards, RAM sticks etc.?
No RGB is amazing, especially RGB fans, (as they look so tacky) and do nothing for performance, and create unnecessary heat. Function over form.
RGB LEDs are so efficient that the heat they give off is practically zero, and it doesn't affect PC temps.

4:08 That is definitely going to happen and not the brands finding some even more annoying way to convince you to buy more stuff from them

4:15 i randomly started holding my breath before this.
What's cool is that even if the windows RGB app sucks ( look like it.. ) since it will be the new standard adopted by RGB manufacturer, you can build your own app on top of it to get something better than the native windows one

Corsair iCue has been broken on my PC for months! I can’t even uninstall it. Literally can’t open or delete the software to reinstall it. My RGB is stuck on default.

I would love this, but with 1 caveat: allow us to not have the service active all the time for when we have only onboard-storage devices.
We need a service always running for RGB RAM, but not for case LEDs.
Armoury crate is good when you have argb~
The purpose of all these apps existing is to have the branding all over your desktop. They'll just assure that the generic windows support is ultra barebones and most of the functionality will still need the heavily branded applications.
It is funny how much I used to love RGB in my computer. I mean, I won't go out of my way to avoid it or anything but I just havent really sought it out either with my last build. Fun to see how trends, and my own likes, change over time. That being said, I am still using my keyboard that has the ability to change the lighting for each key.
This video actually helped me because Windows randomly decided to mess up my Logitech mouse's rgb
It is not perfect, it says my good old g102 is compactible but when it chranges rgb color it makes mouse feel like 10 dpi so if you turn rainbow effect it is awful
signal RGB has brought my RGB together in harmony
Couldn't a color map be easy to apply with a unified control?
I use a mixture of OpenRGB, ASRock Polychroma and Corsair iCue. there is a part of me that wished i went with all corsair but i havefound their products to be waning in quality in recent years.
