Fix - Alienware Command Center Wont Change Fan Speed

  • This is just a video demonstrating a misunderstanding I had when trying to adjust the fan speeds on several Alienware pc's I have. The systems would heat up under heavy load, and the fans would not spin up adequately, and the result would be reduced/throttled performance.

Prob an update broke things. Do a full uninstall of AWCC and OC Settings apps, restart the pc, and then try to install via this AWCC package installer. www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=x8t80&oscode=w2021&productcode=alienware-m18-r1-laptop

@John-Patrick McNown it will be an ongoing issue with Dells coding when it comes to Fusion and the Alienware control center. The issue is MS Dot NET Framework being updated. Which has controlled everything down to the custom RGB settings for AW laptops and desktops.

@@jpmcnown1 I appreciated the rant. Dellienware shipped my pc with a generic Intel CPU cooler(over an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X) that drives the CPU to insane temps under load, case fans that sound like your version of a Bombardier attack airplane and a software suite that look great but is barely comprehensible. I've had to spend an extra 250$ on this build and wasted precious time due to Dellienware cheaping out on the CPU cooler and case fans. I got your back with a like and sub. Thanks for technically making this software work.

OMG...This is fantastic. For what it's worth, the lil blue bar used to function as a toggle to select the different thermal profiles (i.e., you didn't have to go back to the Home Screen and select it there). I didn't realize this, and spent 12+ hours on the phone with Dell Support. They re-installed the OS, reinstalled the AW Command Center, decided it was the motherboard, so they sent a service tech to replace it. Then they replaced the hard drive. Then they had me send the computer to Dell where they replaced the Graphics card and the CPU. Then 2 more iterations of bios updates, reinstalls of the OS. Finally, they sent me a replacement PC, which of course, was doing exactly what your video described. Amazing that I went through all that for a 20-second fix. Hope your video saves everyone else from the trouble.

Thank you for this video. For the last 10-15 years, I've had multiple devices having Blue/Green Screens of Death. Dozens of "solutions" have been suggested, usually centered around Clean Install of Windows and/or modifying the Virtual memory issues. Not a single post ever suggested the fan speed or a potential solution. I always push my devices beyond their limits. I never realized there was a connection between "SOD's" and fan issues. I thought they were two separate issues.
Being able to influence fan speeds has been a huge help. The Computer Management app (using Event Viewer) shows the frequency/types of errors. Following this video has greatly reduced/eliminated my "SOD's" for the last few weeks. My husband suggested giving you a like/subscribe/comment to reflect my gratitude. Thank you!

hey man - thanks for putting this up. I just got an r12/ i9 11900kf liquid with a 3080 and was trying to fix the sound ("alienware" audio profile in ACC sounds like ass") and for some reason the fans all spun up to like 48% and stayed there even though I wasn't running anything. Clicked all over the damn thing - like you - thinking that the colored bar meant that is what was active.... and the thermal profile was even still set to "balanced" and auto. Rebooted the computer twice.... nothing fixed it.
For giggles while watching yourr video - I changed the thermal profile to performance, then changed it back to balanced - and the fans spun down. Okie doke! No idea what that was all about - or why me making a new audio profile would have triggered all that nonsense - but whatever!
Anyhow - your video got me understanding how this thing behaves and how counter-intuitive the menus are, and I was able to escape the wind tunnel. So - thanks for posting this up, and the extra tour demonstrating alienware's stupidity when it comes to UIs.
    -Enjoying the silence.

Great video! This has been driving me crazy! I just got a new Alienware and it has this same no-intuitive software. It's really confusing because the OC setting can be set like that. I will say that for such a nice computer I would think this software would be a little more polished. On a side note I constantly had issues with the app showing up with a white screen. All the forums said to do similar things like update bios, drivers, uninstall software, reinstall, blah blah. Still not sure what the cause was, but I think it had to do with my Alienware OLED monitor and FX lighting. Once I removed the usb cable from that monitor, which also controls the lighting for that monitor the issue went away. I ended up returning that monitor for a 4k Samsung NEO 7 and never looked back. Thanks again for a nice video and great explanation!

It was running hot, and it actually fried the first MLB and video card within the first 4 months I had it. Dell replaced everything it, but I want to be able to trust that it will survive. I don't even game much, I use my laptop for business primarily. Loud fans are not a big concern for me, but performance and longevity are. You did a great service here for a lot of people. I hope Dell / Alienware take note. It might reduce the return rate on their machines. It's got to be worth a ton of $$$ to Dell if they would show people how to do these mods. Lifesaver. What a stupid program. I kept messing with all of it and being like, I know my fans can go waaay faster than this. What gives. I even tested each fan individually, and they are fast enough to fly a quad copter. But once I put them back in the PC.... the settings didn't save. You saved me a lot of future troubles! Kudos.

Thanks, John-Patrick. I can tell you that you understandably answered my questions. I suggest that you use a lighter background in the future? My eyes would appreciate that simple change.

does it go quieter then this with custom curve ? mine doesnt obey command center when i tell fans to spin above 50c only.
the only thing that made them stop is hwinfo .

Thanks for this! Been trying to figure AWCC for a year. One question - I recall you saying you were operating with the side panel off and a desk fan -ME TOO! Are you running with the side panel on now, and still keeping temps around 70C under load?

I actually don't have those pc's anymore, but they had 3080's in there and they ran hotter than I preferred regardless, but I was mining 24/7. More than anything, it just bugged me that seemingly no one was talking about this shit app.

Once I got an Issue with the battery, I was playing the game and had no light so my battery ended, after that my battery was not charging mean it did show the battery, the charger plugin option but after hours and hours when i unplug my laptop blinks off no battery backup was restoring. and when I asked all this to dell and searched nothing happens Such a pathetic service or dumb IT support. and after getting tired I thought let's check inside and I broke some screws and when I saw the battery it was hard to remove. In short, I left that as it was to use it without battery backup then suddenly I found some option of fking emergency battery shutdown type thing which is an auto mechanism in this shet. The costly machine ever and there is no such tutorials live videos etc for this Alienware may be alien come down and help us. Sorry for my English ... and thank you for the video My profile works but on cool still cpu temp is above 95 so Finally after watching this video I made my mind to keep it always on full speed :D

Thanks. this was exactly what I was looking for. The devs really dropped the ball on this implementation. Not intuitive at all. Also how did you get your temps in C mine are in F

    • @jpmcnown1
      @jpmcnown1  2 года назад +2

If you click on the word "temperature" below the CPU or GPU fan speed, it will toggle between C and F. Yet another unintuitive part of this app. Who wrote the code for this shit?
