ABOUT MARION
Marion Grasby is a food producer, television presenter and cookbook author who's had a life-long love affair with Asian food.
Marion is a little bit Thai (courtesy of her mum) and a little bit Australian (courtesy of her dad).
Marion lives in Bangkok, Thailand and travels throughout Asia to find the most unique and delicious Asian food recipes, dishes and ingredients.
So the story goes, back in the day in a military canteen somewhere around south India, all the dishes listed on the menu were vegetarian. Only the 65th dish was a non veg. Now many of the soldiers ordering wouldn’t know the local language which the menu was in, so if they wanted to eat chicken they would ask the chef to make chicken # 65. Hence the name.
The ingredients differ between restaurants but this is quite a good version.
Omg I never thought I'll see Marion make a chicken 65 😂 amazing! It's such a "local" cuisine you find in all south Indian restaurant which serve meat.
It's spicy and citrusy and very aromatic.
It's best served along with any alcoholic beverage.
In some variants of the recipe, egg is added to the batter. Also thinner the batter, better the taste for this!
Also curry leaves goes to the oil along with chillies to infuse the flavour into the oil.
you can even sprinkle coriander powder on it while serving to give the right amount of kick to it!
Wow! Enjoyed reading your comment.
I am from India and it is amazing. I have eaten the slight gravy version of Chicken 65. It is bomb.
Please use curry leaves, the best ingredient. I avoid Ketchup because I want it spicy.
You can't really go wrong with chicken. I've had this from an Indian restaurant before and it's soooo gooood!😀💞
Absolutely agree with that! - Team Marion's Kitchen
@@Marionskitchen Marion, you should do kids menu as well, like for example while you show your recipe maybe there is a way to make a kid’s version with same ingredients or something..just an idea! That can be a special playlist that will surely be saved as a holy bible by many mums around the world😅 please like my comment to support this suggestions!😊
Are you sure you don't read my mind?? I was craaaving for this!! Love love 💞
You nailed it!! Every indian who eats chicken loves this 😍 Though there are so many variations i dont add yogurt, you can add plain flour or rice flour for extra crunchyness. I add curry leaves & green chilli into the oil with the chicken pieces that way you dont have to sauté again in the pan and fried chiily & curry leaves tastes awesome 🤤For vegetarians make this with Paneer or Tofu ..Paneer 65!!😋
Chicken 65 gots it name aft brits
Simply coz this item was at the 65th number
On the menu in madras
So they started calling it Chicken 65 😅
Every Indian whoz a non vegetarian loves this dish, and it's the best 👌 starter to start off , it's soo delicious 😋 😍
Every non Indian must try this recipe
Without curry leaves in chicken 65
Defeats the identity of the famous chicken 65 whoz birth place is madras India 🇮🇳
Thank you for this information.
Erm... You sure about this info? Coz i have been to Buhari and they had menu in their menu that Chicken 65 was invented in the year 1965, which is why, the name...
I am from Chennai and so happy to see this 😁 Thanks Marion. All your recipes rock
This looks amazing! Perfect for this cold weather on the northern hemisphere to warm the heart and clear the sinuses
Definitely!
Marion your the best! my wife and i have been watching your channel for a long time. My wife has been making your recipes and they are fantastic..thank you very much
Never heard of this before either, looks delicious 🤤 I'll be trying this on the weekend
May I suggest pasta alla Genovese? It's a beef ragu smothered in onions and cooked for 6-8 hours. It's one of my favorite pasta sauces, and I think you would have some interesting ideas for it.
Deccani's kitchen channel on youtube makes the most authentic chicken 65. Do try that recipe as well.
Thanks for doing this Marion. I love chicken 65. My local Indian does a really good version but yours looks even better.
I’m going to try this recipe this weekend! I love spicy food! I will add red chili 🌶 and garlic 🧄
That’s awesome I live in Chennai and I make this every Sunday to accompany
Chicken or Mutton Biriyani… this is our Sunday Special….Glad that you gave a
shout out to Chennai.👏👏👏
Wonderful Recipe. Thank you very much for the fantastic explanation of the whole process. I am from India and settled in Bangalore. I am fond of experimenting various dishes in my kitchen. I had chicken 65 from various places in India like Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka etc. but this one is awesome. Really appreciable recipe.
I grew eating chicken 65 a lot, as a dish native to my region, I would definitely give this a try.
This is definitely a new hybrid version chicken 65 and fried chicken. Fantastic for first try.
Thank you Santhosh! I'm glad it was a good first try! I loved it!
@@Marionskitchen since you love spicy food, you can also replace the sweet paprika with regular chili powder.
Kashmiri chili powder is used to keep the spice level subtle and give a good color.
To die for! you additions take it to a whole other level. Thank you for this xo
OMG Marion this is bomb!. Definitely will make this tomorrow for lunch
Hello Marion, enjoy watching you cook & my favorite thing is when you taste your food & you say "So good" ♥️😁
Hey Marion, try Kerala fried chicken (authentic recipes use only coconut oil and whole bone-in pieces of chicken) ...would be interesting to see if you like it ..
Oooooh that sounds awesome!
Omg, I looooove this one. My favorite Indian dish, however, is Vindaloo, chicken preferably. Could you please show your version of that dish? I assure you, it is spicy!
I never thought this would ever make it to your list! Thank you so much. Could you also show us how to make Japanese furikake? The vegetarian and the meat/fish ones? Substitutes as well. They're very very difficult to find in most countries in central and south Asia.
Hey Marion. I love your channel and I love to share your recipes with my family ! They love it. I would like to see you cook some french classic recipes with some asian twist. You could do Daube or Blanquette. You actually inspire me to try new things in my cooking. Lately I did a Blanquette of Salmon with Miso. It was delicious.
Hey that sounds awesome Nicolas! I love that idea!
I've never heard of this and now it's my new favorite thing. Man that looks insanely good!
Marion has composed a chicken 65 recipe !!!!!!!!! I can die in peace now !
That looks so dadgum good!! It might be too spicy for me, though. I love how you finished it off with lemon juice! Nice...👍❤
Wow nice recipe of making chicken 65 . I love it. Its so delicious and spicy. Thanks🌹 for the beautiful recipe.
Marion , you should make t-shirts that say “ I’m a legs and thighs girl “ 😂
I know, right?
A few of us have been saying that for a while now. It's a marketing opportunity going begging ...
Amazing Marion. This is one of my favourite starters. Easy to make the and delicious. Black Pepper and Curry Leaves are integral to this dish. These starters can be made mild or spicy basis your liking. Do the final sautéing just before serving, allows you to prep this in advance.
6:12 Marion, you just summed up this recipe with that one reaction! Nicely done! I am a huge fan of mussels... do know any interesting Thai or similarly inspired mussel recipes? Thanks from Canada!
I love chicken 65! I get it from a local India restaurant. Thank you Ms Marion!
Really happy to see South Indian dishes😍😍😍
What you said about no fixed recipe might be true as I have never seen such a chicken 65 before. Usually we do not add corn flour or if needed add it with the chilli powder .Also when frying add curry leaves first in the oil and then the chicken which adds a delicious flavor. The second part adding friend chicken is also new to me.
Exactly... The 2nd part gave me more of a Manchurian feel esp coz of the ketchup.. Great version, none the less...
Making this right now I'm SO excited. I am marinating the chicken and awaiting my curry leaves via Amazon Prime 🤣
Update this was 10/10!! I added in some msg and subbed the ketchup for hot sauce as I didn't want that flavor profile. Also curry leaves ARE WORTH IT. I've never cooked with them before I realized now this is the ingredient that I was tasting in a lot of my favorite Sri Lankan dishes!
This looks delish! I love chicken 65 AND fried chicken so this is like the perfect mashup for me! Thanks for doing this! Will try it out on weekend!
Marion, you are out of this world!🇨🇦❤️😘
Love from Tamilnadu.. ❤ chicken 65 looks yum.. 😋
Hi from Australia.
This looks awesome, and on the to do list.
My all time favourites chicken dish is Three cup chicken.
It is a traditional Taiwanese dish and although very quick and easy to make, is 11 out of 10 for flavour.
Hope you try.
Richard
I think she already has a recipe for that on her channel.
Looks wonderful!!! Chicken 65 - who’d thought??? ♥️♥️♥️🎄🎄🎄🤩🤩🤩
Magic marion.well done. First time I saw chicken 65 was on all kitchen channel on here. He name s some great Indian curries. I'll be trying yr version too x
Hands up if anyone is vegetarian but watching this and thinking daamn this looks tasty 😅
Absolutely love Indo-Chinese food, soo excited to see this on here!
I just made this for the second time ... first time I forgot the ketchup. It is better with the ketchup! It's a fantastic recipe!!
never heard of this before too.. but would love to try it! looks good.. 😋
It's so good!
Love Marion, even though there is no chicken 65 without the curry leaves. Suggestion for next dish: "Drums of heaven, Chicken lollipop"
There are few good south Indian restaurants in Parramatta that do chicken 65. Its the best!! Loved it Marion!
I’ve made this dish before so I’ve bought Deggi Mirch after a Indian friend recommended it. It is so versatile in Indian cooking. Colour and flavour without the intense heat. Great for Rogan Josh.
watching marion for a long time and i am from chennai! 💃💃
It could potentially become an Aussie summer favourite and as it is flexible it is a pub classic waiting to happen. I would love to see your take on waffles, as I think you would get more inventive than mere pandan or mochi. It would also become a Modern Australian sensation. Season's Greetings to all dear to you and please tell Mamma Noi her smile can delight anyone. Cheers.
Not a true 65 but a nice recipe (Chennai here). Cornflour and rice flour should be mixed into the marinade before frying and we like to add curry leaves to the marinade. It's a Sunday starter staple in our house. You can also use small pieces of bone in curry cut chicken. 65 is a versatile dish because you can use the same mixture for prawns, cauliflower, mushrooms, paneer. Another nice recipe for Marion to try out is Andhra style lemon chicken. South Indian food is diverse, nourishing and extremely flavourful but unfortunately doesn't get it's rightful place under the sun because Indian restaurants tend to focus on heavier North Indian/Peshawri cuisine.
My nose started watering just watching you try it at the end. One of the many reasons I would order this when I'm out and about in India.
Marion you should totally make your version of "chicken kabiraji" and the Hyderabadi "Mandi".....This is a very Eastern dish that originates from Bengal. Obviously add your twist to it. As usual your fan.
This looks beautiful!
Another fried chicken recipe from Marion ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Balinese roast chicken Ayam Betutu please! I need your version in my life!
Delicious 🤤 I’m wondering how you seasoned your wok? Any tutorial? Thank you 😊
Wow, super delicious chicken 65
I want to see you do lobster bisque with all your twists! I am sure it will be amazing

What is the one dish you can cook all the time and it never gets old.
wowww.. from buhari, chennai. i come from that place, best restaurant
Hi Marion.. another very popular chicken dish from south India is the green chilli chicken also called Andhra chilli chicken. It's really easy and spicy juicy and amazing.. and it's made without any ginger or garlic. Do try it out.
Would be cool to see you make Thai desserts so we can learn about them and make them at home
Thats fantastic marion! Im from chennai , india and i have eaten in buhari restaurant before and this recipe is better than the original. Great !
yummy yummy thanks Marion
Hey marion so nice to see a familiar recipe surely give it a try 💥❤️ thanks
Will definitely be trying this with the kids
OK, Sweet Marion! I have been craving two dishes! One is called Moo Manow that my favorite Thai Restaurant used to serve, but they have since closed. It is cooked with onions and chilis - spicy, but with a pleasant hint of sweet! Also, Rama Platter - the pork is pleasantly chewy, but tender, and cooked in a brown sugar kind of sauce. So delicious! Can you research these, and cook them for us?
I'm from chennai that's our family favourite restaurant Search "sutralam suvaikalam Buhari chicken 65 recipe" in youtube the hotel owner son will be showing the process of their original 65 recipe.
The second I saw curry leaves I knew this was my thing. ❤️
How good are curry leaves?!!!! The best!
Whaaaattt ??? Marion Grasby replied to my comment ??? Now I can die in peace 😁❤️❤️
I am from Chennai too Chicken 65 is my favorite. And I add fried curry leaves at the end to even fried fish, just like this.
Still pinching myself if this this real because me and my now 4yo son have binged watched your videos.
Much love Marion ❤️
This looks absolutely amazing. It’s just unfortunate that I probably will not have available to me all the ingredients needed Because I want to make it just like this so I don’t know where to go to get some of that stuff but boy i sure would love to taste it.
One of my favorites to make !!
Als kitchen I meant marion and he makes some great dishes. I need to check my stuff before I hit send lol
Try cooking Laksa Sarawak. Would really love an easier way of making it.
I really love your video. Your video is very interesting.
Hey Marion looks 100% yum why don’t you try making pani puri I m sure you are gonna nail it 😍 or chicken or lamb biryani
First off, this was so quick and easy, I am surprised!
Second, I'm just wondering why green chilies instead of red,
Third, You always have a special something for us,
Thank you, this is EPIC!!
Indian chinese cooking (this history behind the origins is quiet fascinating) uses green chilies primarily, and if we really need red chillies, its either going to be in powder form or a very indian-style chilli sauce. If you have an indian store near you, check out Chings brand products- they are ind-chinese food in a bottle.
Finally 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I love u Marion 💓
Love ur vids
Hey idol. Just try filipino food. Pork kare kare, it's a really good. I'm your valid fans from philippines
Woolworths use to sell kashmiri chilli powder but for some reason i haven’t found it since early last year but coles sell the product fyi
Ooh!! that's some fiery thing in the wok...Marion I like to see you cooking Biriyani or Pulav one day :) :)
Facts about chicken 65:
It's an indo Chinese dish with curry leaves n garam masala plus tomato ketchup n soy...
It allegedly get it's name coz it was invented in 1965
It's mostly used as a starter dish and is like super spicy
As someone from Chennai it’s not indo Chinese at all lmao and definitely doesn’t use ketchup and soy
thanks
@@emperoralex ikr I'm from Chennai too😃
Marion, could you try to make pasta with italian spicy nduja. I would like to see your version!
Oh my god, I love Chicken 65.
What!!!!! I love chicken 65!
Can you make more "Indo-Chinese" food. Would love your take on it!
Checked 65 is not indo-chinese... what??
This is the best 65 recipe
Try some Caribbean food, my favorite is Pilau from Trinidad
