good idea to save the tie down/bottle opener so you can reattach if you make a lumber run. That cleat is much more valuable as a tie down than a bottle opener. who doesn't have a bottle opener on their key ring or in one of the 12 cubbies inside the maverick. Would be nice to see some way to have the strut WITHOUT losing the tie down cleat.
Hhnu
Used these dee zee struts on previous f150s and they are great for slow dropping tailgates.
Really content. Steady camera, clear focus, concise explanation. I like how the only reason people are watching this video, ( the issue installing the lower bracket ) is very clearly explained with a intelligent explanation. Thank you.
Another one of "I'm going to get" for my '23 Lariat. The only suggestion I have is to take the two screws that were removed from the bottle opener and reinstall them. Serves a couple of purposes, 1) you won't lose them and, 2) they'll keep sand, dirt, water and what not out of the holes.
I just purchased the 24 lariat Tremor. Can you share why only one side is needed?
@@AB-wx7uz It's more than "strong" enough to by itself to slowly lower the tailgate. Mine was installed about three weeks ago and it's been issue free.
Thanks 👍
You made it look super easy! Thanks
Replace the removed
"tie down / bottle opener" with a folding 1000 lb.D-ring that attaches in the same spot. Still enabling you to tie-down lumber to both sides of tailgate. 😊
40 degrees and windy today, so GREATLY appreciate your comprehensive walk thru - spot on and allowed me to be 100% prepared for a quick install. I replaced the bolts on the bottle opener as well. I would have missed that on my own. Thanks.
Worked as you explained it. Thanks.
I really enjoyed watching you working on your truck, Sam! What a great little accessory, now you just let it go and there’s no crash.
Great video. Thanks for the great explanation and walk thru.
Fantastic vid. Never bothered to scan instructions, just followed yours! Simple, great suggestion on tightening the nut before placing in the tailgate. Thanks so much!
Sam ,Thanks I just installed my tailgate assist on my Maverick XL with the help of your video with no problems..🎉🎉🎉👍
Great tutorial. Got it installed in less than half an hour with minimal problems once I threaded the nut/bolt until it was nearly snug already.
Great video, just installed mine pretty darn quickly thanks to your video!
Why am I the only one who can’t get the piece on the tailgate it self to lock. The bolt
Just picked up the tail assist using my ford flex points and watching your video lets me know I can install this myself.....Thanks!!
Nice accessory install. Thanks,
Here's an accessory that might make a good video; I really like the steel wheels, but to make them pop, installing a set of baby moons on them I'd love to see.
I did this to the tailgate and the assist to the front hood. Both easy and does make a difference. Way cool too. Also the tailgate lettering, not the vinyl ones..
Thanks for this. I'm going to purchase and install this on ours once we receive. We ordered a Hybrid model during that six-day order window in September. By everything we had heard and seen and read, we were expecting ar least an eight month wait, but we're scheduled for production week of December 5. Our dealer put us in at the same priority as 2022 carryover, but still very surprised that we're already scheduled.
Great job explaining the install. I’d like the way you tightened the bolt Almost all the way down before you inserted it into the tailgate, which makes it a lot easier to have it seat in place!
Su tutorial me ayudó mucho para instalar el mio a la Maverick. 👍🏾
Looks like a great accessory
Ok got it...just now i asking you at the other video about tailgate assist.
Thanks Sam😍👍🏻
Awesome how-to video. 👍
Great video, thanks.
Just put mine on thx for the video!
Excellent 👍🏻👍🏻 thanks you
Thank you
I put the bolts back in the holes.
Good idea!
I just got my Maverick and this was a gift so I installed it the 2nd day I owned truck. Only thing I’ve noticed is when it’s cold it takes forever to open. It’s 20 degrees today and I thought I did something wrong but it must just be cold
Didn’t notice an issue when we have mid 40’s and low 50’s
Just something to consider for anyone getting one who lives in a cold climate
This is a kick a#% video. Thank you for doing it right. 👍
Glad you liked it!
I need something like this on folding rail of my profi rowing machine where it is made just like this factory tail gate slapping down without any control....gonna check if this kit would fit....
Thank you-!
Thanks for the video instruction; got mine in; started watching your video; didn't have the bolt or clip with mine; looked at the destructions; those parts were on the parts lis but not shippedt; got a Dee Zee phone # to call; it's Saturday. I'll call them Monday and try again.
I just installed it and it works well, but makes the bed harder to close. With it installed to now have to put a good amount of force to get it to click and lock
Just bought the same unit DeeZee from Amazon for $30.00 installing it today.
Yep i saw this on another review that someone did. Id prolly just get it to.
All in at the OEM level, it's about a $20 part. Ford, just make this standard.
Excellent video, agree on bottle opener remove sequence. Question: Can you leave the bolts for the bottle opener in place? Will the shock clear the head of just bolt alone, I would prefer not to leave the screw holes open, again great instructional!
I saw in another video where guy just screwed them back in place. Makes sense and you don't lose them that way
Nice video...What is the color on your Maverick? Looks really nice
My maverick is two weeks out but, watching this video, could you remount the factory bottle opener tie down upside down? It looks like tie down opening part has an angle to it that would clear the assist strut if mounted like this. Not sure if the holes would line up though.
does it work with the tailgate in the secondary position ?
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
man that lower bracket mounting is a pain in the a... at leats for first timers
Would this affect any ability to install a MAVERICK 2022-2023 UNDERCOVER LEFT HAND SIDE PIVOT STORAGE BOX ? I assume you could just do the right hand side storage box but curious if anyone knows
When making the 90° turn I can’t seem to get the piece in the tailgate itself to get locked in
Losing a tie down is a showstopper now you can’t ratchet strap 4 x 8 sheets
I won’t be putting that in now 😪
I agree. Before seeing the install I was thinking that I wanted the soft open when I finally get a Maverick. Now I know to save the $50.
So I put this on last week and it’s just like you did and my gasket is rubbing against the cable?
How long can this last?
Is there a system where it assists up as well as down?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌tanks
Thanks for the video but looks like the shock is installed upside down…..have heard complaints it catches the cable when closing if you install this way
Did you watch the video, listen to what was said? Read the instructions? It is installed 100% correctly. The people having cable issues are the ones who don't read the instructions and install it the wrong way.
I'm having the hardest time getting the nut to catch in the tailgate. I turn the bolt and pull and pulls tight but as soon as I go to tighten it just turns. Is it supposed to be really noticeable when it catches? I've been trying for 20 minutes now
Nah it’s fucking impossible. Just throw in the towel before you have a complete mental breakdown like I did.
i wanted one for the hood hate the stick style soo crummy and cheap do they make one for the hood?
There are companies out there who offer a set for the hood.
How long do you think that strut will last before it needs to be replaced?
5 years
I wish you would have demonstrated if the Tailgate Cable functions still work to have the tailgate open but at two different heights other than fully closed or fully open.
I would not trade that functionality for the dampering alone. I went to the Dee Zee site and it made no reference to if those functions are compatible with installing the Damper.
You don't have to answer, but I still would need to know this before purchasing the kit.
It's a non-issue, why nobody even finds it worth mentioning. Of course you can use the mid-position, the posts are still there - they were not removed.
I installed my upside down, but I'm having a really hard time removing the shock to turn it over.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I think the only negative is it will eventually get dirt and moisture in the cylinder. That might take 5 to 10 years to fail.
@@BlitzHack Thanks for the tip
Just installed the Arana tail gate assist and took no longer than 5 min to install and the bottom plate was a breeze with their locking nut! And 37.99 on Amazon
Do you need for both sides or just one side?
Just one side
Hello can be installed for the passenger side instead driver side? Best Regards
The bracketry is designed for the driver side but might be able to be modified to fit the other.
@@TDTVGarage Thank you very much.
Tailgate nut broke from spot weld. Has anyone installed the tailgate assist strut and have it break due to the nut spot welded inside the tailgate? The only solution is to install a rivet nut using a rivet nut tool. Amazon has it for $32 for Prime Days. You cannot remove the tailgate panel and install a nut there because of the center beam support inside the tailgate. Believe me, I tried.
It won’t set in place. I’ve tried for two days and bought another one because I couldn’t get the first one to unscrew. I’m unhinged and defeated.
Just my opinion but $50 for the strut kit is way over priced. I'd say maybe $25 would be more in the ball park.
Had one on my 2022 maverick. Wouldn’t stay in place. Junk.
Love the Maverick. However neither my grandpa nor my dad ever needed a "tailgate assist." Just sayin'.
I like it for Ubering. Pull up at the airport and lower the gate. Now, it would be nice to be able to pull a lever from inside the cab, or push a button to initiate the drop... but still. The only reason I like it is that some people will come up and start opening your door for you.. because some uber drivers are super lazy and want the passenger to load it. But I dont want people scratching my paint..etc. so I want to lift the bag.
@@BarryObaminable Yep. Just had a pickup at Walgreens and the young gal (and I can't blame her here) hadn't dealt with a truck in her life. Boom went the tailgate. In went my order. If you're getting this as your "nerd truck" and wont be doing open-bed hauls all that often, the number of times I'm picking up mobile-ordered groceries is going to be 100x more often than my open-bed hauls.
Everyone is going to use this little truck differently. 👍👍
$28.00 on Amazon, same thing.
The problem is that the “bottle opener” is really a tie down point that doubles as an opener. When hauling 4x8 sheets it’s nice to have both tie downs on the tailgate
