There is nothing wrong with computer-aided features in a car. 80's Chryslers had funny computer voices in passenger cars. To me the only negative is when there is no music system but instead a cell phone system instead. As if I needed to be glued more to my phone!!! Just like the death of Music Television!!!
Im a huge tech nerd. even getting my degree in computer science but I dont know if ill buy a modern car any time soon. my dad bought a mini countryman and it gives him headaches because every small thing he wants to put on it brings up a dash light. Sure my car doesnt have many of the small convivences but I've installed backup sensors, camera, pke, smart key, secuirty system, amp stereo. I know where every inch of wires are connected and know how to fix it because Imyself designed the electric schematics. The only thing it brought was 4x4, abs and keyless entry but then nissan decided the frontier didnt need a immobilizer for whatever reason.
100% The electronics and computerization are actually a liability and at times a danger. Car thieves have caught onto the wireless security systems of cars all over and have been distributing their software for cracking these systems so that random street thugs can get into cars and drive them away faster than they did when they were using slim jims and hotwiring. "I love the convenience!" So do the thieves. They don't even risk cutting themselves.
I hate having to push the buttons too. Has anyone else noticed that if you start the truck and start driving right away the power steering doesn't work for 3-8 seconds?
I was thinking just yesterday, that i couldnt think of 1 thing to bitch about, about my xlt. It is more than i had hoped for. Each of your 5, also bug me a little, but dont rise to the level of "complaint". My only complaint about the water bottle thing, is how often i had to hear about it, while i waited for mine. I couldnt have imagined that anyone would think it was even worth mentioning. Looks like i missed that one. This is a fantastic little trucklet.
While I dont necessarily think most of these complaints are serious problems, I appreciate the view from a different perspective. These are things nobody has talked about on a video. I do believe the drive mode should be addressed. Looks like the seatbelt screen can be disabled. I also agree the brake setting should shut off once car is turned off. Our new RAV4 shuts off the brake hold and defaults to eco mode every time the car is shut off.
Wow you would love my truck whenever I want it to move I have to push in a yellow diamond shaped button and a red octagonal button before it will moove
Of course the Maverick makes you feel like a moron. Very intuitive from the Maverick. Also the eco mode does not give you the best mileage in all driving situations. If you read your owners manual it will tell you when to use eco mode.
highway driving is really the only place to use eco mode. and thats probably why it turns off when you shutoff the car, because when you start your car your not sitting on a highway, your in the city or neighborhood.
MTBs and the Maverick, my two most searched topics on RUclips. I’m hoping by the time I pull the trigger on the Maverick they'll have these issues figured out.
These aren’t “issues” as they are across many brands. My Hyundai has a pop up on the media center that stays for about 30sec or so to pay attention to driving and will go away prematurely if I click “confirm”. Defaulting to normal vs eco (or whatever) is the right thing to do. I have a 2020 explorer that’s the same way and that’s GOOD. I have a teardrop camper and I wouldn’t want the vehicle to default to tow after I’ve used it. As far as the auto brake thing, I am glad that remembers the preference and as it fundamentally changes your behavior while driving, it SHOULD remember your choice. Water bottle slot complaint? Please. Settle down. There’s roughly 3836638 different bottles to choose from on the market. If compatibility with that slot is important, get a bottle that fits. Hybrid “whine”? I have no experience or opinion. Again…not “issues” unless you think a vehicle needs to be custom fit for your specific needs rather than appeal to the most amount of people as possible.
I worked for Ford for 5 years - in QA. Every now and then I'd come across a warranty problem and I'd propose a fix. Quite often though Engineering would tell me that the problem can't be fixed because it is stipulated in the Corporate Design manual that they have to go by.
Issue #1 has NEVER been a problem in my XLT Lux FX4. It starts directly into the last display I had on (awd mode, tire pressure, fuel economy, etc. Issue #2 - yeah, sure. Hit the decaf tho because you are in the minority here. Issue #3 - see #2 "Issue" #4 - Is this your first Hybrid or EV? The "noise" is federally mandated. Issue #5 - Yep, it only fits the 22oz Hydroflask. A lot of us have complained to Ford about it.
The worst thing is ford Maverick doesn't have standard rear window defrosters for the back window. Insane and dangerous especially for northern states and Canada
That’s not a brake hold button… that’s the parking brake. How long have you had a license? Econ mode is a joke, it just dumbs down the throttle input. Keep your foot off the gas and you’ll see the same mileage.
4:07 That is the brake hold button. The parking brake is the one above it with the "P" on it. You pull up on it to engage the parking brake and push down to disengage. Do you even have a license? 😉
Be happy with your new vehicle. My daily is full of holes tailgate and bed sides strapped on with rachet straps, and is loud and getting 10mpg everywhere, and it's a V6. Those little issues aren't issues to me.
I understand your frustrations. We have a MINI, it always put the car back into Normal mode regardless of the mode you had it in previously. In regards to some of the other issues, we had a Mazda CX-5 and it had the autobrake feature. Guess what? It always shut off after you shut off the car. I found it annoying because I wanted it on most of the time and I would pull up to a light and yep, autobrake not on. For me, whatever the settings were when I shut off the car, unless there is a safety concern, should be the same way the next time I start the car. The noise, sadly I think all hybrids make those weird noises. A Prius is one of the loudest vehicles I have ever driven slow in electric only mode. The good news, these are all definitely First World Problems.
are you sure eco mode doesn't really just adjust the throttle response since it is drive by wire? that is how the prius/ct200h work, and I actually get better fuel economy in sport mode than I do in normal or eco. Try which ever mode has the best throttle response and practice hyper mile technique. Also you waste less gas the quicker you get up to speed instead of taking forever to get to 60mpg.
@@ClicktheMaverick and people have had prius’s and other toyota hybrids for a decade and still think it remaps the throttle instead of just increasing pedal response, but it doesn’t. Ownership is not equivalent to knowing how it works.
You must have a one of a kind, I don't get that seat belt warning. A 20z bottle fits perfect in the door pocket and lastly, I love the brake hold stays on and use it every day. Can't say much about the drive modes have FX4
Well, he didn't actually use purchased water bottles that it was designed for as he used random drink containers that there are probably hundreds of different types and shapes. Pretty surprised he didn't pick up on that.
I have a Kia Stinger & I wish the brake hold feature would stay on. I don't use it because I don't want to press another button every time I use the car. Same goes for the auto engine shut off feature...but I always turn that one off. I just want to stomp and steer when I go to drive my car, not play a video game every time before I drive it LoL!
Two comments. First, unfortunately, this is 8 minutes of my life I can't get back! Second, if those 5 things are the worst issues with the Maverick, it must be a great truck!
I've had my Maverick 2 months now and I 100% agree on the items you describe. I have 30 db loss of hearing and I have not noticed the ambulance chasing me! I'll listen more closely, I'm sure it is behind me. I also hate the small mirrors up in the corner of both rear view mirrors! The Maverick has a big problem with blind spots! Please add it to your list! When I started driving it I almost side swiped a car, by not intensely staring at the small mirrors. Granted I'm 75, but I should be able to see the car beside me in the big portion of the mirror. I believe the mirrors can be enhanced greatly by changing the optics! Economy mode should be the default mode! Please Henry, make it quality "ONE"! In other words, make ECO mode #1!
The brake hold is normal in any newer piece of mobile equipment. It's the new version of a parking brake. It's not supposed to let go unless someone releases it. Like a parking brake.
The button not latching is a thing but a little thing. When I road in one my water bottle fit perfectly. I've been waiting for 6 months and just got pushed to MY '23: Now THAT'S an issue.
I've learned to accept the button procedures by imagining I'm preparing to lift off in a helicopter or apace ship. I even switch off DRLs to save battery during the day.
I have a 23 Maverick Lariat and I really love it, but you hit the nail on the head with each of those annoyances! If I had to pick my worst it's that seatbelt reminder and having to hit the OK button EVERY time!
There should be a way to set up the car then have it remember your preferred settings every time. Ford could provide a firmware update to fix these things, but who knows when or if that will happen. But brake hold is not a setting; it's a temporary effect. It should be programmed to turn off when the vehicle is turned off.
Like the cooled seats in my Lincon. Why can't that setting be saved when the car is turned off? That bugs me but not to the point I'd start my own Yu Tube channel and rant about it. Did he purchase this vehicle on line and without test driving it as so many do these days?? Yeah. Trust the Internet, right? You won't experience anything of a negative nature happening to you that way but if you do, just return it... right?? lol. It's not a pack of T-shirts, Dude. CHECK IT OUT FIRST!
@@jamesscherrer1642 Anyone who gets the opportunity to test drive a Maverick has to have a friend that owns one. Finding one at a dealer is like living in Fantasyland!
That's only for the warning chime sound when you're not buckled in. One of the first things I turned off when I got my Maverick. The display is a separate issue.
Bro 💀 stop complaining! The lazier we become as a society, the more we complaint 🤦🏽♂️ It’s Clearly this is your first Hybrid. That “ambulance” noise is to alert pedestrians a vehicle is moving. I went from a 37k F150 to the maverick and I like it’s simplicity. Really unnecessary review in my humble opinion
You don't really want the Eco mode because it makes things slower and it just drives better in normal but that's my opinion in the EcoBoost version. I think eco mode is like for long road trips. It's like a one MPG difference probably, probably 0 mpg once you reach cruising speed. Because all eco mode really does is make it accelerate like you're driving I don't know an old Volkswagen or something
These are some of the dumbest complaints and like 90% are user error. That water bottle spot does fit hydro flasks that’s like the designated size they went for
Any thoughts on the regenerative braking? I have heard/read that it can be very jerky or sudden and it's kind of turning me off from the vehicle. Also - how's the cabin noise when driving, particularly at higher speeds?
braking sucks in this truck. once you slow roll down to 5 you have to smash the brake pedal down to a jerk stop or it'll keep rolling as you apply pressure
I have a 23 Lariat Hybrid. I noticed none of these issues. Normal breaking, very quiet drive. I'm getting 42mpg... I love everything about it. Killer 8 speaker sound system including an 8" subwoofer. The best windshield visibility I've ever had in a car. Everyone comments on how quiet the engine is. Very comfortable seats.
I bought a Mercedes and it's "eco" auto shut off at stop lights drives me crazy. And similar to your eco mode it resets every time the car turns off to be on. So, everytime I start the car I have to remember to turn it off.. Annoying. my car also has the same eco, sport, custom etc choices. I'm pretty sure mine resets also. I'm not so annoyed by that one but if you live in the city and your car shuts off every time you go to a stop, that's ridiculous.
Bro, my 2.0 Ecoboost literally doesn’t have any of the issues you bring up. And you are seriously digging for problems on the water bottle issue. I have Yeti water bottles and 20oz bottles I get from the store that fit perfectly.
I was thinking the same thing. My Ecoboost doesn't have the seatbelt thing. I almost never use eco mode because it just makes the throttle response suck and doesn't really change fuel economy. Water bottles fit fine in my door. And the parking brake does exactly what it's supposed to. Stays on until you release it just like every other car ever made with a parking brake. This guy in his stupid sunglasses and Crocs complaining like a spoiled brat. What a joke.
What’s your gas mileage without the Eco mode because I’ve never used eco-mode and It says my average mpg is 40 also get yourself the 18 ounce Hydro flask it fits perfectly
I've had my Maverick for two weeks and drive it in normal mode all the time. After 400 miles with about 60% highway I'm showing 46.5 mpg. I just came back on a 27 mile highway trip and and it showed I got 52.2 mpg for the trip. I drive the 55 mph speed limit that is typical in my area and I accelerate slowly and brake slowly to get the max use of the battery.
The water holder segment was terrific. I often wonder how they came up with these designs. Tommy, how is the design team doing on the water bottle holder in the door. Well, we came up with the following. It won't fit any normal size water bottle and the bottom of the space is not flat so your super small water bottle that fits will just tip over instantly and slide around. Tommy and your design team, excellent job, kudos you guys deserve a raise. Hey Billy how is that trunk design going. Cracks me up!
I have had mine for a year and love it, 12 oz water bottles from the dollar store fit in the maverick door just fine. There are lots of clicks, etc. when the truck shuts off... relays etc... not a problem. The only issue I have, I'm short and the seat doesn't fit me quite right, so I use a wedge shaped cushion. Also, I wish the cup holders were lit up with LEDs at night.

Yes a few of those you said are a little annoying but I have gotten used to them. I most always just use Normal Mode so the default to Normal doesn't bug me at all.
Well we live in a 1st world country and have our choice of MANY vehicles. He's giving a review. I for one appreciate it. For example, if I buy a hybrid for economy, I really want the vehicle to ALWAYS be in economy mode. (And push a button to stop it) not the other way around.
The last time I was in normal mode I achieved 49.5 mpg in my dad's maverick in my mind if I was going for cheap gas I'd definitely get a maverick
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE 1) MAXIMIZER or 2) MINIMIZER; Which one do you think you are, a maximizer or ultra-minimizer / invalidator?
A E-Break that Stop the Car moving when the Car its off, is exactly what it was invented for! 😂🤦🏻♂️ Have you ever heard about a Hand-Break? They do the Same and they are even stay on when u use it, total crazy stuff, i know? 😲🤭
I went from a 1990 to a 2022 and I gotta say, all these electronics and features are overkill. I miss the simplicity of older vehicles.
I have an 03 F150, and the electronic options in just the XL on the maverick are light years ahead where I currently am.
There is nothing wrong with computer-aided features in a car. 80's Chryslers had funny computer voices in passenger cars. To me the only negative is when there is no music system but instead a cell phone system instead. As if I needed to be glued more to my phone!!! Just like the death of Music Television!!!
Yeah I'm going go from a 2003 s10 to something soon..I don't need 70% electronics on newer vehicles
Yes
I was thinking just yesterday, that i couldnt think of 1 thing to bitch about, about my xlt. It is more than i had hoped for. Each of your 5, also bug me a little, but dont rise to the level of "complaint". My only complaint about the water bottle thing, is how often i had to hear about it, while i waited for mine. I couldnt have imagined that anyone would think it was even worth mentioning. Looks like i missed that one. This is a fantastic little trucklet.
I hate the dial style shifter. When I go into reverse I accidentally put it in park all the time.
About economy mode. If you rob banks for a living, the last thing you want when you start your getaway car is economy mode engaged.
I have two kids . The seat belt system makes me easy to know what my kids doing.
His point was that it should stay where he left it instead of going to its default mode. I totally agree with him on this one.
WOW! You want some cheese with your Whine? You must be fun to be around. 🤣🤣🤣
MTBs and the Maverick, my two most searched topics on RUclips. I’m hoping by the time I pull the trigger on the Maverick they'll have these issues figured out.
There not really issues…
I have been waiting a year for my maverick. Ended up buying a chevy. When/if you pull the trigger plan to wait a very long time.
What I don't like about new Maverick is ridiculous marked up price on dealership lot ! Like 4000k - 5000k more dollars? Really?!
I worked for Ford for 5 years - in QA. Every now and then I'd come across a warranty problem and I'd propose a fix. Quite often though Engineering would tell me that the problem can't be fixed because it is stipulated in the Corporate Design manual that they have to go by.
Some people are never happy.
Issue #1 has NEVER been a problem in my XLT Lux FX4. It starts directly into the last display I had on (awd mode, tire pressure, fuel economy, etc.
Issue #2 - yeah, sure. Hit the decaf tho because you are in the minority here.
Issue #3 - see #2
"Issue" #4 - Is this your first Hybrid or EV? The "noise" is federally mandated.
Issue #5 - Yep, it only fits the 22oz Hydroflask. A lot of us have complained to Ford about it.
Spot on comments… 😂😂
Drive mode problem bothers the heck out of me too. Stupid design. Overall, love my 2024 Hybrid. Sounds are pretty cool. Like them.
Eco mode is just psychological, it’s all in the way you drive
no it's not. It is a completely different throttle mapping.
Sounds pretty minor, though I do agree that they should fix some of these issues with software updates.
The worst thing is ford Maverick doesn't have standard rear window defrosters for the back window. Insane and dangerous especially for northern states and Canada
So no real complaints then.
All you have to do is hit the ok button steering wheel and it disappears
That’s not a brake hold button… that’s the parking brake. How long have you had a license?
Econ mode is a joke, it just dumbs down the throttle input. Keep your foot off the gas and you’ll see the same mileage.
4:07 That is the brake hold button. The parking brake is the one above it with the "P" on it. You pull up on it to engage the parking brake and push down to disengage. Do you even have a license? 😉
The mustache explains everything, you got a ford maverick
Be happy with your new vehicle. My daily is full of holes tailgate and bed sides strapped on with rachet straps, and is loud and getting 10mpg everywhere, and it's a V6. Those little issues aren't issues to me.
The noise in electric mode is mandated by government. All hybrids or evs have it
I understand your frustrations.
At 4:00 you say the brake hold makes you look like a moron, while you are wearing viper glasses, crocs, and a mustache 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have a regular non hybrid Maverick and not one of those problems apply to my truck.
are you sure eco mode doesn't really just adjust the throttle response since it is drive by wire? that is how the prius/ct200h work, and I actually get better fuel economy in sport mode than I do in normal or eco. Try which ever mode has the best throttle response and practice hyper mile technique. Also you waste less gas the quicker you get up to speed instead of taking forever to get to 60mpg.
it definitely remaps the throttle.
@@ClicktheMaverick sure about that? Or is that just an assumption instead of actually knowing?
@@Kevin-vg4hu I've had my Maverick for just over a year.
@@ClicktheMaverick and people have had prius’s and other toyota hybrids for a decade and still think it remaps the throttle instead of just increasing pedal response, but it doesn’t. Ownership is not equivalent to knowing how it works.
@@Kevin-vg4hu Okie doke. Move on then and use your high IQ with google. You have quite the condescending tone.
My maverick does the same thing.. seatbelt indicator stays on until you hit ok…
Blame the EPA for most of those issues. Vehicle was not EPA tested in ECO mode as default. Brake hold doesn't affect fuel mileage so it can stay on.
You're a fool. How does EPA factor in all of these issues?
This is the type of guy I’d expect to complain about these things 😂
Sweet truck thou
Exactly!! 😆 And worst… just for getting extra views…
I have a ecoboost and at slow speeds like in a neighborhood complex it sounds like it is taking a huge crap
Yes. It should be in economy mode unless you want to chose performance on your own.
You are so right! Hey FORD reprogram the darn computer already!!!!
Or it could just remember what you left it in. I don’t want to have to switch out of eco every time i get into the truck either.
@@Denali_Rebel "Default" is another word for someone else thinking for you. Last setting would satisfy most owners.
I'm with ya, I don't like the mirrors, too small
Bonus item #6: The driver whines nonstop.
😂😂😂
The brake hold is normal in any newer piece of mobile equipment. It's the new version of a parking brake. It's not supposed to let go unless someone releases it. Like a parking brake.
The brake hold is for use in traffic, not as a parking brake. Unfortunately, that too has gone electronic, with all of its unique issues.
Gotta be the stupidest complaints I've ever heard and I'm not a big ford fan
Drive modes have never started on in any vehicle I've driven.
Wow these complaints are really minor for a 20K vehicle! Life is to short to have such minor complaints! Keep Calm and Ford on!
My water bottle fits, it actually snaps in really snug and tight where you have to use alil force putting it in & taking it out
It's my understanding that there is a procedure in the owners manual to turn off the seatbelt minder.
I've never used the seat belt in my Buick, just get used to the little light.
Or just press the ok button
That's only for the warning chime sound when you're not buckled in. One of the first things I turned off when I got my Maverick. The display is a separate issue.
This truck is not meant for men In my opinion it’s small like for picking up plants at lowes mulch or groceries so it’s good for him
Bro 💀 stop complaining!
The lazier we become as a society, the more we complaint 🤦🏽♂️
It’s Clearly this is your first Hybrid. That “ambulance” noise is to alert pedestrians a vehicle is moving.
I went from a 37k F150 to the maverick and I like it’s simplicity. Really unnecessary review in my humble opinion
I can say it's not all Mavericks on the OK for seatbelts. My Lariat does not do that.
Exactly, you put it in eco mode when going down hill to get most of the regen
These are some of the dumbest complaints and like 90% are user error. That water bottle spot does fit hydro flasks that’s like the designated size they went for
Any thoughts on the regenerative braking? I have heard/read that it can be very jerky or sudden and it's kind of turning me off from the vehicle. Also - how's the cabin noise when driving, particularly at higher speeds?
I responded in length about it, indeed Ford did a piss poor job on that end of it.
braking sucks in this truck. once you slow roll down to 5 you have to smash the brake pedal down to a jerk stop or it'll keep rolling as you apply pressure
I have a '23 and there's no jerkiness at all. Not much cabin noise except at the rare very heavy throttle. And not very loud even then
I have a 23 Lariat Hybrid.
Very comfortable seats.
this is like one of those videos where lambo owners complain about the smallest things. Im sure you could have found some real complaints
The only issue you rose that I can agree with is the drive mode one. The others are laughably knit picky.
Exactly. All whiny hybrid owner complaints
Thanks for pointing out stuff that other channels don't. I learned something worthwhile.
I have none of those issues on my '23 Maverick
What’s your gas mileage without the Eco mode because I’ve never used eco-mode and It says my average mpg is 40 also get yourself the 18 ounce Hydro flask it fits perfectly
I've had my Maverick for two weeks and drive it in normal mode all the time. After 400 miles with about 60% highway I'm showing 46.5 mpg. I just came back on a 27 mile highway trip and and it showed I got 52.2 mpg for the trip. I drive the 55 mph speed limit that is typical in my area and I accelerate slowly and brake slowly to get the max use of the battery.
@@jimfarmer7811 Yeah you just have to know how to drive if you want to maximize the mpg
I think the seatbelt thing is a setting, I never turned it on. Good to know so I keep it off.
I agree with you, the MPG is very important. I think the second issue is more annoying than the first one.
I have one on the way (someday) but wondering if on your next video maybe include a clip of loading your bike on it just to see how it fits and looks
I really hope Ford fix that mustache bc it's really stressing me out!! LoL
You should just set it on 🔥
I have had mine for a year and love it, 12 oz water bottles from the dollar store fit in the maverick door just fine. There are lots of clicks, etc. when the truck shuts off... relays etc... not a problem. The only issue I have, I'm short and the seat doesn't fit me quite right, so I use a wedge shaped cushion. Also, I wish the cup holders were lit up with LEDs at night.
I’m with you on the seatbelt issue, but how could you overlook the heinous drive gear selector. HATE the circular knob!
That's funny I love it. So much easier to use. Left is park. Right is drive.
@@Crunchifyable2
For 2017 Ford switched the Fusion from a gear lever to a knob, I wanted a " traditional " gear lever, so I bought a 2013 Fusion.
@@Crunchifyable2 Looks like you’re in the minority. For the new Ranger they made a last minute change away from the dial due to overwhelming customer feedback.
Thank you! Me too.
"Oh we're trying to save space"
No you're not you're trying to save money and turn everything into an appliance. A LOT of people prefer to grab something when they shift gears.
About the brake hold button. If you turn it on it should stay on when you restart your truck. Especially if you parked on a steep grade. No?
The spaceship noises are so people can hear the truck coming when it's moving on electric power alone at low speed, all EVs and Hybrids with an electric only mode have this.
Either that... or UFOs are attracted to Mavericks and follow them around. 🤔
I’ve never seen that seatbelt warning message after 6k of driving.
Are you trying to find a new niche since there are too many mtb youtubers now? Is a name change coming? "dailyfordmaverickdriver" sounds sweet
How about the color you chose
