As a Ford technician, I highly recommend the Maverick Hybrid. My 2025 is on the way :) Simple engine and transmission that has been in service for almost two decades. Improved battery technology From the original escape hybrids from 20 years ago. The battery itself now costs under $1k.
This is a shitty truck, stop making it out to be that good. It is as if driving a go kart. Stop lying that you get over 50miles per gallon. That’s if you are driving under 45 miles per hour. This truck cheap, squeaky , lot of road noise, bumpy and horrible ride. Well you get what you pay for.
We have four of these trucks in our fleet and they drive put a hundred to 125 km per day (about 350 miles a week). We have two 2022's and two 2023's. We have about 60,000 km per truck (about 36,000 Miles) and we are still getting 6 L per 100 km (39 miles per US gallon). The gas cost has been cut in half compared to the cost of the ICE's we were using before.
So wait what was your build price bs what you paid? I ordered one an was $12k more when I went to pick it up. I was so pissed I didn’t buy and haven’t been back to ford since.
I agree with your comments on the interior hard plastics, and the Maverick in general. The cheap plastic bits and bobs offend me a lot less in a vehicle I spent $25,000 on, versus one that I'd pay $40,000 for. I intentionally chose an XL because I didn't really care about 95% of the options provided in the up-market models. Like you, I added wheels and tires and a random assortment of other accessories to make my Maverick work best for me. Also, I didn't much like the interior upholstery / color combos offered on the XLT and Lariat; I think the XL interior scheme is the best in that regard.
Covered everything nicely, good job. The software with the latest emissions recall basically ends the issue with grabby brakes with another ABS update included. Performance of the brakes is basically on par with my Camry Hybrid now.
My 2022 was written off last September at just over a year old when someone ran a rural road stop sign, spinning me out onto my side in a ditch. I had to climb out through the moon roof. I loved that little truck and really wanted another. But it was IMPOSSIBLE to find one even remotely like how I had mine built, and even more impossible to get it in the cyber orange. It was about $10,000 more expensive to get one USED. And ordering new still involved an unknown wait time. Welcome to Canada. Funny that I was finding tonnes of stock in the US though. Anyway, I'd have one in my driveway right now if I could have, but between inventory, stock, and used inflation, it just didn't happen. I miss that truck so much.
Excellent, brutally honest review of a great hybrid truck. Like all of the modifications that you've made to it, especially the wheels 🛞 and tires. Best source of Maverick info on the Tube. Looks a little cold 🥶 out in the Sonoran desert 🏜. Thanks for the upload 👍
Thank you for your review. I finally got my Maverick XLT after waiting 16 months last March. I have really enjoyed your informative videos and they have helped me make some decisions on some extra items on mine. I really like the truck. It’s a 2023 and I have put 13,000 miles on it. Thanks again for your coverage on the Maverick . Great job
This hybrid version is a nightmare to work on. Plus its going for 30k for 2024 models which is way overpriced. At best it should be 20k. Id rather get a full boxed frame base model 2nd gen frontier or a older tacoma than this
Ford is the King of Recalls, for the past two years Ford has had more recalls than any other car manufacturer. What's going on? I'm currently shopping for a base Maverick and they are hard to find and now cost $25.000.00 at a minimum!
Well said when he talked about cheap plastic that was engineered to permit the truck to be a $20k value, so by adding all the options crap onto it, e.g., Lariat, it is still designed to meet the price point.
I'm always mystified by comments about "cheap" vs "premium" plastics....We're not talking actual woodgrain (made of wood), stainless, pewter or ceramics. It's literally paying a much higher price for cars made with "better" plastics. It's still just plastic! I'm fine with my base XL, and all the plastic is fantastic :)
For any Maverick Hybrid owners out there, Michelin CroosClimate2 tires are awesome on this truck. Not an offroad tire, but for all-around driving and rain/snow, they are great.
Sam, thanks for all the great Maverick content.. it's the main reason I subscribed to this channel.. My 22 has been plagued with problems.. but I enjoy the 44 mpg average in the 15 months I have owned it.. currently have about 13,500 miles on it..
All my life I've known a Ford Maverick as a car until this thing came along. They're missing two critical retro ingredients that go with the name. The Maverick Grabber package along with a 5.0V8.
I would love to have the Maverick Raptor. I would not keep it after the warranty expires though. Too many nightmares of maintaining Fords. Engineers have made it close to impossible to fix some normal everyday regular maintenance.
I have 25,000 on my 22 maverick hybrid, and i love it. Everything you are saying is dead on. I have had a few problems. Like i had to replace my factory tires, they are junk! And the tail gait damper becomes impossible to open in the cold. The cylinder won't let the tailgate go down in severely low temps? I got weathertech floor liners in my truck great product.I love them. The number 1 crappie thing is the radio stinks. i have to keep resetting it, and when it is COLD, it really wants to skip cut out the screen goes dark???? Why i do not know! Overall, i love it. faults and all. thanks 4 the content
Thanks for your thorough summary. If the price doesn't rise too much, and durability remains acceptable, this vehicle may have a nice future. But $27k is probably too high. Many would stay in the used car market.
Unfortunately most used Mavericks are hovering in the 30k range even those that sold in the low 20s MSRP originally. The value has gone up for the most part and just finally starting to stabilize.
Great content! Thanks for your work. I love how people will go on a lot of other reviewers and actually s-talk Ford blah, blah, blah. EVERY auto manufacturer has recalls, issues etc. I bought this truck in Canada for 35k all in. Base xl ecoboost AWD with towing. In this country, that buys you a 10 year old tacoma if you're lucky and a 7-8 year old f-150. People say- 'it's not a truck because the bed is small'. Also BS because I am a house painter and it does everything I need. I had a ranger, F-150 and now this. This truck fulfills a much needed space. Cheap, reliable, good on gas. I've had mine for a year and a half, 60000 kms. One recall, that's it. I'll drive it for 5-7 years and buy something else. The fantasy of driving a car for 500,000 km or miles is a load of crap. How much are you pouring into that vehicle to keep it going for that long and how boring is it to keep a car for 15 or 20 years?
Wait till Toyota comes out with the stout and you can get a 1yr old frontier with under 15k miles for the price of an escape with a truck bed. It's good for camping and getting around town.
I was planning on buying one, but they were sold out before I could get one. Now they want another $10K for one 😡 that is if you can even get one at MRSP. Plus all the recalls don’t help either. Glad yours is working out, but I decided to go Toyota.
We spent nowhere close to $10,000 not even half of that. If we had bought a Lariat we would not have had so many opportunities to create educational videos and web content around each new modification and accessory. And, each one of our accessories or modifications can also be done to a Lariat ;)
Let me get this straight: People who are unsure about buying hybrids (or I assume electrics) are stupid, but people who buy extended warranties - such as yourself - are smart. Did I get that right?
Hybrids and Electrics aren't the same thing when deciding if it is the right choice. If you are buying a Ford and plan on keeping it, yes an extended warranty is wise as Ford's aren't known for their long term reliability.
I have an Escape Hybrid-I wish Ford would put a heat pump in these. Especially with the modification to the grill shutters, it has to run the engine for no reason other than to make heat in the winter. They should also bring back the electric windshield defroster they used to sell ~20 years ago.
Excellent video , can you tell me where the battery terminals are to charge the 12 V battery in my 23 maverick hybrid, also is it necessary to charge the hybrid battery or is that done completely by regenerative braking, etc. thank you
The 12V battery is located under the rear passenger seat. The Hybrid battery never needs to be externally charged, the system maintains it through regenerative braking and engine power via generator.
I just had my 2023 Maverick Hybrid XLT serviced and they took care of the turn signal recall. I absolutely enjoy the truck and I've had no issues in the 6500 miles I've placed on it. Everything stated in the video was accurate and I also have no issues with recalls, as long as they are fixed.
Nice review...I am looking. With all the upgrades you have done on the basic XL, what would be the cost of it if you had bought it that way originally? Thanks....
@@TestDrivenTV Makes sense...I am just an OCD guy who keeps all the records of what I spend on accessories, upkeep, etc. on each of my vehicles for a total cost analysis. And you really did a great job of making a basic little pickup into a really nice-looking snazzy ride. Take care...
It is a true shame that Ford doesn’t keep up with the demand for this vehicle. They would rather push $80,000 F150 trucks and stupid electric cars then give people what they truly want.
The problem is that they sell all of the $80,000 trucks they build so little incentive not to build them and make 4x as much money. EVs are the future, everyone has to make them.
@@TestDrivenTV Whats the proof they sell all $80k F150s? EVs replacing ICE or Hybrids is IMPOSSIBLE unless you triple power grid. I'd love an EV if they had range, reasonable cost, charging infrastructure, ran TRULY non-fossil, weight didn't harm roads, weren't self immoliating, and components didn't involve so much strife or mining work. They've got their work cut out to mainstream EVs but I'll buy one when & if their truly ecological
right now, if something happened and you needed a replacement chances are you could find one on a lot somewhere. My local dealer received about 20 in the last month and I was able to buy a brand-new XL Hybrid right off the lot with no dealer markup at all. So far I am loving my new truck and my wife even enjoys driving it too!
Man it seems like just the other day I saw your Ford Maverick explained video and watched all your update videos over the years too. Can’t believe it has been 2 years now
Great review. If I can ever afford one of the new AWD hybrid Mavericks Ill definitely be leveling and adding larger tires. It really makes it look and function that much better.
Really wanted to grab one of last fall when we were shopping. A fifty two hundred dollar addendum changed our minds. I refuse to pay a "market adjustment" at the dealer. We bought our first Honda instead. A used Ridgeline for the Wife and she loves it. I am kinda out on Fords dealer network. I have 2018 F150 4x4 and between the sales experience, the recalls, and the poor service its going to be our last Ford.
I have a Lariat Hybrid model 2024 and it rides like a little truck but it gets very good gas ⛽ mileage. I also have a 2010 F-150 Lariat for heavy work.👍😎
load 1400 lbs (includes passengers) tow 2000lbs but but dont try it with 1400 pounds inside the truck and ...leave a lot of room on the anramp for acceleration
I considered this ute now I'm retired and do more around the mountaintop 2ac "estate", however I've decided that it is not much of a vehicle for 30k. It was in the running, base stock for 21k, but not at current price. If I was still ferrying a daughter and her friends in the back seat, going on family vacations and buzzing to the office....it is an OK car choice, equivalent to a minivan or station wagon that could fit an oversized washer or dresser my living wife just saw at the yard sale.... As an around the county pickup truck...the old RWD Ranger or Nissan Frontier was far better to load up your motorcycle or lumber or a bunch of dirt or gravel. I think instead I'll sell my 2013 commuter Ford car for a couple grand and buy an older Frontier, S10 or Ranger short cab used fir $4000 and put $4000 in refurbishment in it: New upholstery Motor work Suspension repair AC service Cleaning/Paint Then I'll have a $8000 new to me TRUCK with a longer/lower bed. Less expensive parts, simplier maintenance, MUCH cheaper insurance. Sure it gets 24mpg instead of 36....but $22000 saved can buy a lot of gasoline.
I got my Maverick Lariat Hybrid Area 51 in Jan '22. Great truck EXCEPT the cross traffic has never worked. The dealer 'tests' and swears it is working but all those vehicles I've almost backed into confirms I'm right and they are wrong. Cross traffic just doesn't work. Otherwise the truck is great. I constantly get over 600 miles per tank. Once I got 702 on a tank.
Hi Sam, I just saw your 2 year on the Ford Maverick . You said your buy It again In If something happened to te vehicle . Would you buy the same XL version or go to a XLT or Lariat ? Just Wondering . Thanks. ( Really like your videos on the truck )
Ford is by far the worst when it comes to interior materials. Very cheap and even the fit and finish is lacking. Comparing it to the Hyundai Sante Fe which is light years ahead of they should be ashamed for the price they ask
As a senior, I'm forced to select the Lariat trim to get Ford's Co-Pilot360® Assist Package. I prefer XL or XLT trims over the Lariat for their cloth seats. Dude that 70s theme on the side is AWESOME! Oops showing my age!
My old 8' bed with a camper shell makes weekend camping with a cot and full-size mattress a breeze. Now I can't even buy an 8'. Need at least a 6.5' with a built in shell that doesn't leak and has side windows with screens. No need for crew cap just enough extended to fit my ice chest and stove. Nobody care about how easy the short tour camping guy with no dang travel trailer needed for deep woods 4x4. It would be the bomb for some of us. G friends always liked the roughing it with a bed just fine. Already getting ready for the woody or the woods rather
Great review, thanks! I'm struggling to decide between EcoBoost w/AWD, and hybrid. 95% of the time I'm on dry pavement and want the exceptional gas mileage, but for that remaining 5%...when you want AWD/4WD you _really_ want it. I may be able to rationalize the EcoBoost by recognizing that it still gets a couple more MPG than my current sedan. Not bad at all.
You just solved my "dash noise" issue with this video......now, do you have a similar fix for a noise that emanates from the rear passenger seat seat belt recoil system, continuous buzz sound when driving which you can recreate by tapping on the plastic cover, it disappears when you stretch the seat belt to the maximum extent.?? Thank you, love your videos.
A new motor would be terrible. Any time you pull an engine and replace it there are residual problems from disconnecting everything and reconnecting to the new engine. Especially on the newer cars that are very electronics based. Glitches and shorts causing electrical problems will follow. If your engine runs fine and suits you, refuse an engine change.
Bought new 2022 Maverick XTL Hybrid nice looking truck. Unfortunately, though it had to be towed twice for serious electrical issues. Also, had 2 recalls all within 800 miles and at 1k I sold it. Didn't want to take any further chances with it.
How did your paint hold up? I have a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness that I got because these were sold out everywhere when I was looking last year. I regret it. Also, the paint on my Subaru is pretty lousy. It chips and is very prone to etching (staining) by everything, even a couple days after giving it two coats of wax. The interior is a rattle box, the upgraded Harmon Kardon audio ($2250 option) rattles and vibrates and sounds like crap. I am at 9 months and eying at seeing how to get out of this 3 year lease.
All car makers have recalled cars, especially on new vehicle models they release. Honda hybrids were littered with recalls when they first came out. I'm sure Toyota did too when they first released the Prius. It's all par for the course.
Had my XLT hybrid for 6 months and it’s been great. Only pisser is random “deep sleep” nonsense. I’ll get around to taking it in but the fuel economy and daily driving experience has been great.
@@V1C10US : just get a bigger 12V battery. My Escape hybrid had the same annoyance-replacing the puny battery with a normal AGM battery completely fixed it, even in the below zero F stretch of weather we had a couple weeks back.
I love my 2013 ford maverick Hybrid. Besides my intermittent engine shudder when braking at 50kph from engine to electic motors. Its been amazing. Absolutely amazing
The markups are crazy in Puerto Rico, but hopefully I can find one of these soon because my Yaris is screaming for help every time I go up a steep hill which is every single time I need to use it (Puerto Rico streets) 😂
wait is there a playlist on it? haha all joking aside somehow I did not know about this truck until today. can you believe it. it's on the short list. but to be honest all the recalls, long wait time & price increasing every year has me thinking.

It's hard to say. Depends on where your source the accessories from and what brand you get. It's a sliding scale.
It recommended to Skip the first 2 years on new models vehicle as the gremlins fault and kinks will be ironed out by them.
Grandma always did have good advice.
right now, if something happened and you needed a replacement chances are you could find one on a lot somewhere. My local dealer received about 20 in the last month and I was able to buy a brand-new XL Hybrid right off the lot with no dealer markup at all. So far I am loving my new truck and my wife even enjoys driving it too!
Yeah, starting to see a few available on dealer lots around me now. Not many, but they are out there.
Why buy a $25000 truck and spend ?$15000 on accessories?
You would have to ask somebody who actually did that. In our case all of the items added to the vehicle total less than $5,000
17,560 miles on my 2023 maverick hybrid . Still loving it.
Same here except I'm at 25k. My daughter does comp. cheer so this Maverick has crossed six states already.
This is a nice truck you have, like the color, rims and the rack,
Man it seems like just the other day I saw your Ford Maverick explained video and watched all your update videos over the years too. Can’t believe it has been 2 years now
have you had any front suspension issues caused by the zone offroad leveling kit? Thanks man! regards.
no
Whatever you do, dont get rear ended. Totaled
Great review. If I can ever afford one of the new AWD hybrid Mavericks Ill definitely be leveling and adding larger tires. It really makes it look and function that much better.
2 years, $5-7k price hike 🙄
I think instead I'll sell my 2013 commuter Ford car for a couple grand and buy an older Frontier, S10 or Ranger short cab used fir $4000 and put $4000 in refurbishment in it:
New upholstery
Motor work
Suspension repair
AC service
Cleaning/Paint
Then I'll have a $8000 new to me TRUCK with a longer/lower bed.
XL if it was a choice.
Yes. I buy the same version. Maybe add the four wheel drive. I am pretty happy with it.
nice review, all the best from Poland :)
go to a touchless carwash at least
Still rocking a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. Best light duty truck, ever.
Wait, people spend money to put a "style sport bar" on the back of their trucks that adds no functionality? That's stupid as shit.
I love this truck
How did your paint hold up? I have a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness that I got because these were sold out everywhere when I was looking last year. I regret it. Also, the paint on my Subaru is pretty lousy. It chips and is very prone to etching (staining) by everything, even a couple days after giving it two coats of wax. The interior is a rattle box, the upgraded Harmon Kardon audio ($2250 option) rattles and vibrates and sounds like crap. I am at 9 months and eying at seeing how to get out of this 3 year lease.
It's still blue and hanging onto the truck.
I don’t see the issue WTH recalls my wife’s 22 made in august 22 only had one recall for a minor blinker issue.
It’s truly a shame that a Honda or Toyota didn’t make this thing. I just can’t buy a ford. Your six recalls pretty much back me up.
The deep sleep issue is a major problem living in the North. Completely negates the remote start feature. My next one wont be a hybrid.
This will be my first truck as an Apprentice Electrician until I journey out and make top dollar.
The markups are crazy in Puerto Rico, but hopefully I can find one of these soon because my Yaris is screaming for help every time I go up a steep hill which is every single time I need to use it (Puerto Rico streets) 😂
this thing was set for about $20K but thats not real world price, its north of $35K even used
There's an acquistition fee added to the Ford Maverick. Its over $600.
All fees depend on the dealership. Some have none, others have more.
tell me about longevity of the battery and potential replacement if if needs to be replaced including cost
Extended warranty is void if damage is linked to any lifted modification.
wait is there a playlist on it?
haha all joking aside somehow I did not know about this truck until today. can you believe it.
it's on the short list. but to be honest all the recalls, long wait time & price increasing every year has me thinking.
How do you recalibrate the odometer for the larger diameter tire?
Those who have Forscan can do it.
@@TestDrivenTVI had one of those when I was born but it was quickly removed
Junk
Honest review of your Maverick ! Looks great 👍.
