I’ve got a 12v grey battery and for the readings I got -0.01 to -0.02 or positive 0.01 and 0.02 if I switched it. I got this reading for the charger, the battery and even the port where the battery plugs into the car. I know my battery is probably fried but is my voltmeter broken? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks
Thats a bit of an unusual reading. First thing I would recommend doing in this situation is to test a known good battery with your voltage meter. You can test your daily driver vehicle battery or even a AA or AAA battery out of remote with it to make sure it's working properly.
What are you plugging the part that goes on the power wheel connection? Not the part that goes into the outlet but the opposite end? What device are you using?

Thank you for this Video. I have my daughter jeep sitting for a year now not driving because i am not sure if its the battery or charger that have gone bad. i will be going home to test this.
I have a 6V power wheels and the battery reads out 6.55V after charge. Charger is also putting out proper voltage. I plugged it in and checked connections. As far as i can tell, all switches are working. I even replaced the pedal switch with a new one. I hooked the battery up directly to the motors and they dont spin. As a final test, I plugged in a 12V battery through all of the cars wiring and everything seemed to work. Is it possible that the motors are old and the 6.55V just isn't enough to move them anymore?
Unfortunately I don't have sufficient knowledge on how age affects electric motors and if a higher and higher voltage is necessary. Our electric fork lift is over 30 years old with several thousand hours on the machine and the battery voltage (and motors) remain the same with no issues. Does the vehicle take a single 6V battery or two? If you have more than one motor in there then I'm assuming it's a dual battery setup which means your motors might need 12V to run?
hi have a power wheels wild thing . the first 2 charge lasted for around 3 hours however when I tried to charge the 3rd time the car only moves like for one minute and the led light blings meaning battery dead.
I picked up one of these out of the local Goodwill rubbish pile and figured I'd use it for something. Thing was severely undercharged at 4V. Threw it on a trickle charger and it seems to be charging. Has anyone taken one of these apart yet? Most Lead Acid batteries I've handled swish and slosh. This one is pretty solid.
Do the 12v batteries have any sort of internal protection or safety devices that trigger in a collision? My child hit our out door table and the PW immediately stopped working. Battery is at full charge but still won't go. Swapped another working battery and the PW goes fine. Thoughts?
My new 12v battery shows .04 and my old 12v charger is jumping around between 5-17. I assume this means they are both bad? If so, do you think my charger possibly ruined my new battery or did I possibly charge it too long? It worked fine until I tried to charge it for the first time.
Thats an extremely low voltage to be seeing on the new battery. The Power Wheels toy itself will not drain the battery past 10.5V maximum which leads me to believe that you may have an issue with that charger. Have you gotten a volt meter on the charger yet to see what its putting out?
The voltage range of a battery can vary depending on the type of battery, its age, and its condition. As a general rule of thumb, a battery is considered to be dead when its voltage drops below 80% of its fully charged voltage. In the case of a 6V battery you would be in the low 5V range to be considered dead.
I have been trying find the correct battery charger for this battery. Can you link me to the 12 bolt charger for that battery? The battery is model 1001175653. The ones offered the terminal connector is not the same as the one you. Thanks
Hey I have a question I haven't used my Power Wheels 12-volt battery for 13 years it's in good condition will it still work I can't currently check it with a voltmeter
If the battery is 13 years old then is going to be time to replace it - the typical lifespan on these is 3 to 5 years. One quick way to tell if an old battery is bad is to physically shake it. If you can hear debris shifting around within the battery that means the lead plates have disintegrated and/or fallen apart.
You can not test a quick charger using the above method. The charger itself will not put out any voltage until it makes a solid connection with a battery. The only way to test the charger is to use a power wheels battery that you know is good. You test the voltage of the battery and write it down. Once you have your first reading you would then plug in the quick charger and let it sit connected for 10 minutes. After that time has passes you remove it from the battery and test the voltage of the battery - if its above the number you had previously written down then its working. If you can give me an idea of the problem your having with the charger then I can do my best to answer it.

Went to charge the battery and now the car won't drive for more then 30 seconds even after a 24 hour charge. I assumed the charger is dead which I verified using your strategy. However the battery is reading 5.5 volts which according to your video means the battery is in need of replacing. Is that possible? It's a brand new 12v battery. Just wanting to verify that if the readings are that low it means the battery is bad and not just in need of a charge. Thanks!
Since the battery is brand new and used only once or twice then there is a very good chance that it will bounce back from 5.5 volts, but you need to get a new charger ASAP. The longer the battery sits in this extreme discharged state the harder it will be to bring it back.
Thanks. It took some messing around but I got it back up to 11.93v. I had to cut my charger cables and connected it to my car battery charger first (charger wouldn't read it like you said). That bumped it up to about 10.5 volts. I then re connect my wires to the actual charger and did a single charge which brought it back up to 11.20. Sat it for a couple days and charged it again resulting in a 11.93 charge. Seems like it should be fine although it's not charging as strong as your battery but maybe it will recover more after a few new charges. Thanks for the help.

Yes, but two things to note. 1. You don't want to blast the battery with anything higher than 10 amps, anything higher and you run the risk of blowing the top off the battery. 2. The connection prongs in the battery make it really tough to hook battery clamps to. If you do rig up a good way to make a solid connect with a larger charger then hit it at ~10 amps for 45 to 60 minutes and then try plugging in the standard charger immediately after to see if you can recover it.
Yes, the razor E100 scooter is a 24V unit that will accept that charger - just be aware that it is a bit higher of a rate of charge then what comes with the scooter - so don't leave it on for more than a few hours.
while testing the voltage at the motors hit the gas peddle to engage the motors - check for a massive voltage drop, if you do then a dead cell in the battery is a definite possibility. If there is no change in voltage - i.e. your getting voltage to the motors but no drop when you activate the motors then something could be happening with the motors.
I bought my son a brand new power wheel drive 2 weeks ago. It was working fine until I let it charged over night. The seller warned me about not to charge more than 3-4 hours. Now when I start it up, all the lights and musics are working fine but the car itself won't drive forward/reverse . Do you think it burned the motor or just the fuse??
Hello Leo, I'm not sure that the battery is the issue if the lights and the music are still working on the car. You can check the fuses to see if any are burned out on the Toy - I think it may be a motor related issue.
Negative, you will need to attempt to charge the battery first. All a voltmeter can tell you is the state of charge of the battery, it can not put a pass or fail load test on the battery.
Is it possible to over charge these 12v batteries and kill them ?my daughters power wheels radio will turn on but as soon as I step on the peddle to test for acceleration the radio dies, and no power.
Yes, if you leave the battery on charge for days on end then overcharging will occur. Unfortunately, it sounds like your battery needs to be replaced. Your battery is able to retain proper voltage to operate a small draw like the radio but as soon as a real load is applied it fails outright. I am pretty confident your issue is limited to the battery because the radio also dies when you hit the pedal - if it remained on then you may have a fuse or switch issue with the pedal itself.
You may be looking at an issue with the toy if the battery has good voltage and your getting no movement. The first thing to check would be the switch under the gas pedal and work your way backward from there.
If you're not sure the battery is accepting the charge you can test the voltage of the battery without the charger connected, then connect the charger and leave it for an hour. After the hour is up pull the charger from the battery and let it sit un touched for an hour. Check the battery voltage again and compare the two readings.
Not sure if it’s the battery or charger but I have a beetle power wheel car . I put it to charge and then I turn it on and a red light shows but it doesn’t move forward or backwards doesn’t move at all only the sounds play like the horn , etc
Thank you for the video. I have my battery and charger within your specs. When I hook up battery to the power wheels it seams there is a HUGE draw of power from battery. I have about 13.88V from battery. Not sure what else could be the cause of this issue.
There will be a draw (voltage drop) when the toy is pulling power from the battery, however, after the initial draw the battery should maintain its voltage level for a bit before slowly inching downward. If your battery drops significantly - into the 10-volt range - and doesn't stop its decline then its time to take a look at a new battery.
Do you have access to a voltage meter? If so the best thing to do would be to check the voltage on the battery to see if it took a charge. Fully charged for this battery would be 12.8 + volts. If the battery is testing fully charged then issue is somewhere in the toy itself. If the battery is stone cold dead then there are options depending on the voltage reading that you get.
That sounds like the batteries are okay and should at least move the power wheels. I would try lifting up the back of the toy so there is no pressure on the wheels and hitting the accelerator. If you still don't get anything then you most likely have an issue with a switch.
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc just did that. Nothing happened. Im looking right now at the ignition switch and acceleration peddal. But can't or have no idea yet how to determin if its faulty or good 😅
@@exlost245 You can begin testing with a voltage meter. You can test the voltage at the motor to see if there is any, and or the resistance of the switches to see if thats the hold up.
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc replaced the batteries and charger. But still no power. Even the auxiliary(lights, sound etc) is not working. If its not the switch, probably the board?
@@exlost245 Its really tough to say without having it in the shop. If the voltage is not flowing past the board in the toy then thats going to be the issue, have you check voltages at all with a voltage meter to see where the bottle neck is?
Thanks.. My charger says 7.5v and I tested it and it was actually right around 7.5v. But my battery won't charge and it's reading 3.4 guessing need a new battery for my kids 6v ride on it sat in charged for a long time
If you know that the battery is good but the toy is not moving at all then you may have a bad switch - most likely under the 'gas' pedal of the toy. You can either test the switch with a multimeter or give power wheels customer service a call - they have repair centers all over the US that you can drop the toy off for repairs.
The charger is probably good. It is not uncommon for us to test a 12V Power Wheels charger and see it putting out 11 ish volts. As soon as the charger is connected to a battery it will increase its voltage output into the 13-14V range.
We have not made a quick charger video because it is a bit tricky to test those units. The charger itself will not engage (put out voltage) until it makes a solid connection with the power wheels battery. What issue are you having with the charger - I may be able to help trouble shoot it for you.
I have a quick charger and it simply wont do anything, no lights illuminate and it will not charge the battery. The battery is good because I am currently charging it with a 12 volt automotive trickle charger. Is there anything I can try to fix the original charger?
We do not, the charger for both the Red 6V and the Grey 12V units are going to be in 1 AMP range. You can divide the capacity (AH) of the battery by 1 (1 AMP) to determine your charge time assuming the battery has been run all the way down. For example, the Red 6V Power Wheels Battery is rated at 9.5AH and the charger has an output of 1 AMP so 9.5/1 = 9.5 hours of charge time. I hope this helps!

New as in you just bought it new? The battery is stone cold dead, your best chance to bring it back is to leave it on the charger for 24 hours and see if you get any improvement on the voltage
If your charger has an LED light then you have the old school quick charger. I am not really familiar with this unit however I believe when the lights are alternating between red and green then its indicating a voltage issue with the battery.
all power wheel batteries are garbage. for 4 years now I've been using my snapon 18v drill and impact gun batteries with no trouble on my son's power wheels. 18v brings all his power wheels to life and they are fun,and fast. try it out
Brandin James it's easy,I cut the plug off all my son's power wheels. black wire is - white wire is + positive. find out which side is positive and which side is negative I used male speaker connectors. snapon batteries are easy the connectors slip right in
If the battery takes a full charge but lasts for a very short duration of time then your looking at a capacity loss. In this case a replacement battery is recommended to get the full run time of toy.
The battery voltage should be 12.7 or above to be fully charged. Unfortunately, Power Wheels has stopped making the chargers with the charge LED light on them so if your battery is discharged the general rule of thumb is 8 to 10 hours of charge time to get it back up to par.

The voltage range of a battery can vary depending on the type of battery, its age, and its condition. Hello Leo, I'm not sure that the battery is the issue if the lights and the music are still working on the car. You can check the fuses to see if any are burned out on the Toy - I think it may be a motor related issue.

Will you be able to get a reading to determine whether your battery is good or not if the battery isn't charged?
Negative, you will need to attempt to charge the battery first. All a voltmeter can tell you is the state of charge of the battery, it can not put a pass or fail load test on the battery.
High-Tech Battery Solutions, Inc Thanks appreciate it
Is it possible to over charge these 12v batteries and kill them ?my daughters power wheels radio will turn on but as soon as I step on the peddle to test for acceleration the radio dies, and no power.
@@richardprice9564 thank you bro for the feedback I appreciate it.. God bless take care man
My 6v battery reads at 6.3 volts however won't power the car. I've checked the charger and that all reads good as well
You may be looking at an issue with the toy if the battery has good voltage and your getting no movement. The first thing to check would be the switch under the gas pedal and work your way backward from there.
My charger works, but i am not sure whether the power goes to the battery or not.. any idea to check that?
If you're not sure the battery is accepting the charge you can test the voltage of the battery without the charger connected, then connect the charger and leave it for an hour. After the hour is up pull the charger from the battery and let it sit un touched for an hour. Check the battery voltage again and compare the two readings.
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc thank you. Really appreciate.
Not sure if it’s the battery or charger but I have a beetle power wheel car . I put it to charge and then I turn it on and a red light shows but it doesn’t move forward or backwards doesn’t move at all only the sounds play like the horn , etc
Do you have access to a voltage meter?
No do they sale them at Walmart ?
the car turns on but it doesn’t move at all not sure what’s wrong
Do you think I should buy new battery? It’s a 6v car
@@karlamadison843 Tough to say without seeing if the battery is actually discharged. When was the last time the toy was running?
you are the hero.
At what voltage should I put the battery on the charger?
9.6
Thank you for the video. I have my battery and charger within your specs. When I hook up battery to the power wheels it seams there is a HUGE draw of power from battery.
I have about 13.88V from battery.
Not sure what else could be the cause of this issue.
There will be a draw (voltage drop) when the toy is pulling power from the battery, however, after the initial draw the battery should maintain its voltage level for a bit before slowly inching downward. If your battery drops significantly - into the 10-volt range - and doesn't stop its decline then its time to take a look at a new battery.
My sons car was completely Dead before we started to charge it, now after the charge it won't cut on what did I do?
Do you have access to a voltage meter? If so the best thing to do would be to check the voltage on the battery to see if it took a charge. Fully charged for this battery would be 12.8 + volts. If the battery is testing fully charged then issue is somewhere in the toy itself. If the battery is stone cold dead then there are options depending on the voltage reading that you get.
I got a reading 6.4 and 6.35 for my 6volts batteries. Assuming the batteries are still ok but it thr power wheel wont turn on
That sounds like the batteries are okay and should at least move the power wheels.
But my battery won't charge and it's reading 3.4 guessing need a new battery for my kids 6v ride on it sat in charged for a long time
Yes, it sounds like the charger is functioning correctly but the battery is just not accepting the charge at this point.
you are the here. Thx so much,
My 24 volt battery read 16 is rhat too low? My Multimeter wont read the charger I get a negative reading
That is stone cold dead for a 24V battery. Who makes the battery and charger?
My battery is good but it won't go? What else should I look for?
I have a wild thing 360
If you know that the battery is good but the toy is not moving at all then you may have a bad switch - most likely under the 'gas' pedal of the toy. You can either test the switch with a multimeter or give power wheels customer service a call - they have repair centers all over the US that you can drop the toy off for repairs.
My battery voltage reads 10.55 but doesn't work at all the car. :-(. Any ideas why?
That battery is pretty discharged Jason, you will need to get it up into the 12.6V range or above to see any solid performance out of the battery.
Same here, I had my battery on the charger all night and it only reads 10.5 v. Guessing it won't ever get back to 12+
my 12v charger reads 11.5. Is that to low?
The charger is probably good. It is not uncommon for us to test a 12V Power Wheels charger and see it putting out 11 ish volts. As soon as the charger is connected to a battery it will increase its voltage output into the 13-14V range.
Did you ever make a video for the quick charge type?
We have not made a quick charger video because it is a bit tricky to test those units. The charger itself will not engage (put out voltage) until it makes a solid connection with the power wheels battery. What issue are you having with the charger - I may be able to help trouble shoot it for you.
I have a quick charger and it simply wont do anything, no lights illuminate and it will not charge the battery. The battery is good because I am currently charging it with a 12 volt automotive trickle charger. Is there anything I can try to fix the original charger?
My son power wheel is so slow I don’t know what to do with it it doesn’t go any faster then 6v
do u have a video on how long should a battery charge before it is full?
We do not, the charger for both the Red 6V and the Grey 12V units are going to be in 1 AMP range. You can divide the capacity (AH) of the battery by 1 (1 AMP) to determine your charge time assuming the battery has been run all the way down. For example, the Red 6V Power Wheels Battery is rated at 9.5AH and the charger has an output of 1 AMP so 9.5/1 = 9.5 hours of charge time. I hope this helps!
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc thanks.. it helps me a lot
I knew i needed a new battery but they are expensive so i wanted to confirm this my battery reads .07volts lol
Awesome
Why do I have a 6volt charger with my 12volt system.
Either you have the wrong charger all together or your 12V setup is a pair of 6V batteries. Does your battery look like the Grey cube in this video?
The battery is black and 12 volt. The person I got it from said that the 6 volt charger is what came with it. Strange!
I get surprised when I come across a video like this where a someone usually owning a small business kindly amd trustingly gives out their phone number to anyone who watches it on RUclips. I’m curious to know how it’s affected your business if at all.
Please Like so he share with us
I got a new battery but it reads 7.25 or 8 and doesn’t charge
New as in you just bought it new? The battery is stone cold dead, your best chance to bring it back is to leave it on the charger for 24 hours and see if you get any improvement on the voltage
Hry yheir my name is jerry just wanted to see how i can check the fiuse
It stays red and wont go.. please help
Is this the light on your battery charger staying red?
what if the amps are low?
The test show in the video will get you the voltage readings when you say the amps are low are you referring to the actual capacity of the battery?
Everthing is good but the charger blinks red and green light flashes on of green red
If your charger has an LED light then you have the old school quick charger. I am not really familiar with this unit however I believe when the lights are alternating between red and green then its indicating a voltage issue with the battery.
ON THE CONNECTOR IT HAS A FUSE ON THE CABLE ATACHED TO THE BLACK WIRE.
all power wheel batteries are garbage. for 4 years now I've been using my snapon 18v drill and impact gun batteries with no trouble on my son's power wheels. 18v brings all his power wheels to life and they are fun,and fast. try it out
could u show me how
Brandin James it's easy,I cut the plug off all my son's power wheels. black wire is - white wire is + positive. find out which side is positive and which side is negative I used male speaker connectors. snapon batteries are easy the connectors slip right in

So you use a gun battery to operate you toy car?
BMW you car won't charge. The charger only has plug in like to go in a radio (hollow opening). 2nd time charging and won't charge
What if the battery wont hold a charge for more than 10 mins
If the battery takes a full charge but lasts for a very short duration of time then your looking at a capacity loss. In this case a replacement battery is recommended to get the full run time of toy.
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc so replace the battery?
@@justinmcvay5560 Yes
@@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc thank you
How do I know if the battery is fully charged????? 12v
The battery voltage should be 12.7 or above to be fully charged. Unfortunately, Power Wheels has stopped making the chargers with the charge LED light on them so if your battery is discharged the general rule of thumb is 8 to 10 hours of charge time to get it back up to par.
Richard Price thank you man I appreciate your help
y my baby power wheel battery not chargeing up
Did you try the steps outlined in the video?
how do u charge battery without original charger
Order a replacement charger. I purchased one for $20 on Ebay.
But it didn't say why
In order to find out why you need to test both the battery and the charger to find out the issue...
But why is it not charging? That's what the title eludes to.
@@kateworkman4040 Test the charger with a voltage meter, if the charger is working. Test the battery, if the battery is fully charged and the toy is still not running them you have an issue with the toy. If the battery is not fully charged after being on the charger for 8 to 10 hours and you know the charger is working, then its a battery issue.
Should be "How to measure battery voltage and I don't know what's wrong."
