Hi!! Will you be doing another Q&A soon? I have a wide range of questions, for example, why are the standard bedroom sizes so small? It's as though bedrooms and closets are getting smaller while builders are adding game rooms/media rooms are being added and in some cases bigger than the master suites.
Is there a way to shop, and not subscribe?

I don't have a house I can decorate, but I love watching these because she's so joyful!
My secret weapon for cosying up my space is my smart TV in my living area. when I am home, it is always on. In cool weather the screen is quietly playing a 10 hour RUclips video of a cosy fire burning in a fireplace complete with the sound of crackling firewood. Every time time I glance across at the flames, I instantly feel warm and relaxed; especially as i miss having no actual fireplace. It's so lovely to come home too, as well. In warm weather, I play a view of a running brook with the sound of trickling water or gentle ocean waves lapping , and I feel as cool as a cucumber. There are so many of these videos to choose from and visually it is 100 times nicer to look at than a huge, dominating, blank, black screen. One of the first things I do in the morning is put on one of these videos, to set the mood for the day. My visitors love this effect too. Everyone should give this a try!

I use it for those types of videos but also there are a huge amount of sleep videos and some even have blackout screen so you’re not having a light in your face but you’re listening to soft sounds like the ones you described. It’s awesome.

So important Lisa, what you are saying about the sound inside a space. In my home Australia, carpet is still extremely common, though the renovation trend here is to replace with timber floors. People who have always had carpet in their living room may not have any idea when renovating, about how a hard floor will magnify sound inside their residence (and also help to transmit sound beyond the outer walls). For anyone who is sensitive to noise, or who doesn't want their neighbours close by to hear every conversation, or be forced to keep their TV and music on low, hard floors may be problematic. Just as well that rugs can be used as an acoustic dampener.

I like to put soft flexible rugs on my leather couch. I switch them out every once and a while. right now is a Navajo design shag. I also love my large faux leopard one! It also hides the pet scratches!
#6 is the most important for me. All those textiles plus the rugs do it!

Get out the popcorn. This will be good. Acoustics are crucial to environments. Great idea to upholster portions of a leather couch or other such piece to absorb sound. Hadn't had that mentioned or considered it before and find that it needn't look peculiar. Thanks. Love the West Elm wall hanging you found. I noticed the room with a lot of icy blue and white had a couple of melon-y colors thrown in that added warmth yet did not look too much of a mish-mosh. And with big windows as that had, you are also contrasting with the outdoor greens. You can get scent out of what's burned in a fireplace, as well. Oo, I need a couple or three pillows. Thanks for reminding me. I was not aware of the wall-to-wall carpet possibilities for getting an unusually large rug. Lesson: watch out for the glass and wood decors. LOL.

Very good tip for the larger than life area rugs! I work for a flooring store and that is how I ordered my area rugs- through the vendor and had the carpet mill actually piece and bind my large area rugs. And there are sooo many great patterned briadlooms that make beautiful area rugs. Nylons, wool and olefen. The possibilities are almost endless!! Very exciting stuff!

It's definitely cozy time here in Vancouver BC as we enter monsoon season. While we don't get typical Canadian weather (we get one or two snowfalls all winter), the damp demands that we amp up the cozy. But I've abandoned throws. Give me a queen sized cotton blanket that I can wrap up in!!! Plus it folds and drapes over my chair beautifully.

@@LisaHoltDesign Hi Lisa, could you please give me your opinion/advise, when a ceiling is 9'9 and taking the curtains all the way up, is it ok to leave a space of 730meter from the window frame to the crown molding/corners? any idea how to do it, if there is not wood behind the wall to support the curtains rod ? Also, does the rule with curtains apply to kitchen windows?

(Never considered sound as a warm or cold factor, that's brilliant! Every autumn I drag out the earth tone stuff to warm things up - spice & pumpkin oranges, bronze, maroon/burgundy reds & warm golds. It's funny & weird how bringing cool weather autumn colors inside ironically adds warmth :)
