You can just mute the thinnest string. And you should play the rest as shown in the video. Trust me it is a life savior meathod

just a little heads up, the "easiest way to play the f chord" is not the easist
It is the best and easiest way.

@@KingErnst16 Really? I find the first way to be the easist, except I mute the thinnest string too. It really sounds like the real F chord.

I struggled for 2 nights with this (the first one you showed) without much luck. Then just before I went to bed tonight I picked up my other nylonstring guitar, with lower tension strings (and slightly thinner neck), and lo and behold: I was able to pull it off almost immediately. Still needs practice, though it felt really encouraging.
The odd thing is, after fidling around with the easy F-chord I feel the full chord has become easier to play. I’m confident I’ll master it at some point. 🎸

Bloody hell my fingers hurt..😅 its very difficult because the other strings are muted it sometims sounds right, it looks easy but it's not. Im going to keep practicing. It's what I've been doing,im practicing a chord like ill practice this for literally a week...im dead serious. it works for me to practice each chord for 5-6 days. Its fun it is, cheers mate.. nice one 👍🏻💯🙏🏻
John Jay in Milwaukee gave me guitar lessons in 1973 was in the key of sea C which included the key the sea chord the G7 chord and the f chord challenging me that if you can play the f chord you can play any chord on the guitar add lesson number two and I nailed the f chord so 51 years later I teach guitar and I have a trick for teaching the f chord

I’m really struggling with the f cord but this video has helped me heaps with the F cord that is similar to the c cord but one level down……I have hope now…..bar cords and double cord press downs with one finger is as low as shark 🦈 shit !!!
What's the name of the G chord Mike plays with his fingers on the 2nd, 5th & 6th strings?
Im trying to learn cemetery gates by pantera. Can i use these variations for the beginning F chord or will i have to learn to do the F barre chord? That barre cord is so brutal 😩🤣

My hand just wasn't built for an F chord. My index finger curves inward. I've been playing it the easy way you show here -my index finger tip on the first two strings but that finger is literally lying on its side and unable to press the strings true. The barre technique for F that you showed here first, I've never tried it until now and that method seems to work better for me! 😂

How to mute the 6th and 5th string by using the thumb when playing any of the chord you mentioned above?
I can play those chords clearly without thumb muting. But whenever I apply thumb muting, I mess up the whole chord.
For anyone new checking in; Please just learn it the right way. It's perfectly fine to cheat it sometimes in a few songs but ultimately you're gonna want to have the correct one down. This is basically the base for other barre chords.

Don’t agree that we shouldn’t watch utube videos for guitar . Some saying this even while themselves using the medium to promote their ideas. Every person learns different, and that even makes utube better for guitar because of the many different styles of teaching. One needs to try different ones until your fit is found. This video is useful and appreciated, but for example I am more comfortable with the f bar chord, although I am far from an accomplished player, only because a friend that used to play in high school, taught me that chord with c and g when I first picked up the guitar.

Am I the only one who finds It even harder to barre partial strings than all of them?. Screw it. I guess its full f barre chord or nothing. I can play F but it takes me a few seconds to transition .

I’ve been playing since I was 15 taught myself with the help of ultimate guitar tabs and this F chord is still the hardest for me to play it always sounds like shit cause my fingers and strong enough for the bar and it mutes some of the strings I’m now 30 and still suck at Fs
