I was going to comment about half way though this that you could stretch the out a LOT more but you actually did so thats great. I have a video on my channel where I look at stretching out hardcovers that are accidentally overguled and stuck down. Where there is a will, there is always a way. Good Video.

I don’t worry about the spine too much. But it is nice to see you’ve got it fixed.

For Marvel books I opened them and they're fine, but DC I feel like some of them really need to be stretched out a little more.

Nice video! I actually did a very similar video on my channel for the Batman New 52 omnibus, and that led on to me doing a video where I then explained how I stretch the spine to get it that way! Sounds like we're very on the same page! I can't wait to see your video where you explain your technique, since most people think just lightly flipping through the pages is enough to stretch the spine on a book like this. I've not seen anyone else go into any kind of more intensive methods, so I can't wait to see how your method crosses over or differs to the one in my own video. Maybe I'll learn some things that adjust my method a bit!
Really happy that there are others talking about this, since DC are pretty consistently putting out books with this same build type, and they tend to all get trashed by people who flip the pages down once and don't see a giant gaping eye staring immediately back at them. Would it be better if the spines were made to be a bit more immediately flexible? Sure. But I don't think they deserve the hate they get because most people don't realise the ways in which you can improve them.
If we're going to talk trash about DCs binding failures, let's save it for the real travesties. Such as the recently released Absolute Planetary book. I was gutted to find the binding was actually glued down to the spine! Which is a real shame because it's not going to allow for much improvement. I just recently did a video overview of that book where I compare it to the previous omnibus version. Check it out if you're interested!
Keep up the great work, can't wait for the rest of the videos on this topic!

Hey Comic Bound! It was actually YOUR video that inspired me to do this, so when I end up making my next video, I'll be crediting you and linking your video as well! Your method worked wonders on some of my DC spines and has changed my views on DC binding overall. They're still not perfect or near Marvel's level, but they're much better now after using your method!

@@silverkyle Ahh man no way! XD
I've been following your channel for a while, so it's a bit mind blowing that you've ever crossed paths with my little old (actually it's relatively new :P ) channel! Let alone stuck around long enough to check out any of my videos! That's so cool to hear! And I'm glad if my video has struck a chord with you, or helped you in any way. I was so psyched to see someone else out there presenting this side of the story when it comes to these bindings, as I feel they really get more hate than they deserve. And to think that I played some part in presenting this viewpoint to you, man that's pretty awesome feeling! I was very nervous about putting those videos out into the world, so this is actually a really great reassurance to me that it was worth it. So thanks :)
And I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos on this topic! It's great to have someone else shining more light on this!

Its great to so that you took our suggestion. It does look alot better, the gutterloss is still alot more than I expected though, lets toss that up to DC being DC. Im looking forward to you tutorial on the subject too :)

It's not the greatest binding, but for a DC book, it's a lot better than what it was!

Yeah the other guy did great video, I might now where idea is coming from.
Just flipping the pages is doing really nothing, some actually force needs to be used.

    • @silverkyle

Flipping pages is enough for most Marvel books, but DC needs for us to really take our time and stretch the spine out a lot more.
