Doctor: You have 20 Minutes left to live
Me: Ok, I am going to hear Supper's Ready for the last time.
Doctor: But that's 23:06
God: I'll allow it.
😂😂😂😂epic!
Comment deserves more than 35 LIKES🤨
Skip 3 minutes of "Willow Farm" and you'll make it!
🙌💖
I am sure God would allow it... and probably sit down with you while you both savour this masterpiece
A local FM rock station plays the full 23 minutes of Supper's Ready every Easter.🙏✝😇
And it's a appropriate time to play it . It's about Holy communion . The Satanic plans . The false and anti Christ . the false heaven . The passion and death of Christ . The last battle . The Resurrection and victory of Christ and followers . And the New Jerusalem. It's a modern day version of The Dream of Gerontious .
:)
thats awesome

I've always loved how Peter sings "hey my BabYY"

Me too!

Mmmm sacrilishous
It scratches a very specific itch in my brain.
I bought this album when it came out in 1972. In England ,at that time, there were few ways to get to hear new album based music, a couple of "pirate " radio stations, and Radio 1, which played chart singles. There was only 3 TV channels, the only music programmes being Top of the Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test, whid did play new bands. I read about Genesis in the NME, a music paper, reporting this very strange prog band so I went to my local Boots, a Chemist store in England, which also sold records. I asked to hear this album, not sure what to expect, so ,sat in a listening booth, I heard about 2 minutes of Watcher of the Skies, the opening track. That was enough for me, so bought the LP for £2.15.and set off to play at home, on my Hitachi Music Centre. Side 1 was pretty amazing, I was just getting into Yes and Floyd at the time, but I was'nt prepared for side 2. An absolute masterpiece which I still play today, in my old age !! I like coming onto RUclips and checking out younger peoples reaction to these old songs,..it's great to see them enjoying it now, as I did ,nearly 50 years ago. This music will live for ever. Thank you Genesis.
A little side note I just thought of. In 1972, in my first job, I was earning £10 a week, so £2.15 was quite an outlay for an unknown band.
The investment was worth it
I love this story. Thank you for sharing it.
I got into Genesis about 5 years later. Back in the 70's the only way that you would discover new music is either by listening to the radio, or by word of mouth. So, it all depended on the radio stations that you listened to and the friends that you had.
My first album of Genesis was Seconds Out that was recommended to me by a friend. I also heard a BBC session of Genesis performing Musical Box and Stagnation. I was sold!
My second purchase was Foxtrot. I will never forget that first time that I listened to the album. It was like I was introduced to a whole new world of music.
To this day, Foxtrot is and extra special album. Still probably their finest output.
I have introduced my son to this album and it stands out as one of his favourites. He is 22.
Some music was meant to live forever.
Italy. First mid 80's summer. Me and my brother in the back of my parents car playing while going out for holidays and listening a lot of different kind of music from my father's cassettes, things like Dire Straits, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd.....and of course..Genesis's "Selling England by the Pound". I was just between 5 and 7, maybe 8yo. So i was already pretty addicted to good music, thanks to my father and later my uncle too.
Years later, winter of 1998. With the money of my first true job and my first true paycheck i started to buy all the Genesis albums till "Seconds Out". Yes, I almost spent a good part of my 1st paycheck in Genesis. And proud of it ahaha 🤣👍
And rest is history....and a lot, A LOT of Genesis masterpiece music listening and guitar playing. That's my little contribution in our history wonderfully colored by Genesis and their unparalleled Art, Sir John B. Thnx for sharing your amazing story to us and wish you the best in life. Take care Sir.
! Genesis Semper Fidelis ! 🙏
Oh, i've too a little side [ehmm..weird] story to add. My father's "Selling England by the Pound" copy cassette had just 50 or 60% of 'The Battle of Epping Forest' due to the end of A side. The B side of the cassette was already starting with 'Firth Of Fifth'. So, basically, i learnd and heard the full song only later, around 1995 from the original friend's vinyl. Still rememb the emotions and face expression like, just to make an example, the "What the fuck ?!?" from your beloved Benny Hill expression ! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
The greatest musical masterpiece I ever had the good fortune to hear. I'll never grow tired of it.
I agree with this. This has to be my favourite song of all time, though my friends think I am crazy for listening to it so much!
Absolutely gorgeous song, which surprises me not because it is about and comprises a proposed sound track for eternal salvation, immanentizing the eschaton(bringing about the end of the Age) and the Parouiusia (the second coming of Jesus the Christ)!
Definitely

I agree
Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off
Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes
As the sound of motorcars fades in the night time
I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right
And it's hello babe, with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true
Coming closer with our eyes, a distance falls around our bodies
Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright
Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly
The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand
And it's hey babe your supper's waiting for you
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true?
I've been so far from here
Far from your warm arms
It's good to feel you again
It's been a long long time
Hasn't it?
I know a farmer who looks after the farm
With water clear, he cares for all his harvest
I know a fireman who looks after the fire
You, can't you see he's fooled you all
Yes, he's here again
Can't you see he's fooled you all?
Share his peace, sign the lease
He's a supersonic scientist
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man
Look, look into my mouth he cries
And all the children lost down many paths
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand
Gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary
We will rock you, rock you little snake
We will keep you snug and warm
Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest
We walked across the fields to see the children of the West
But we saw a host of dark skinned warriors standing still below the ground
Waiting for battle
The fight's begun, they've been released
Killing foe for peace, bang, bang, bang
Bang, bang, bang
And they've given me a wonderful potion
'Cause I cannot contain my emotion
And even though I'm feeling good
Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule
Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate
The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord
Wandering in the chaos the battle has left
We climb up the mountain of human flesh
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life
A young figure sits still by a pool
He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool
He is you
Social Security took care of this lad
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower
A flower?
If you go down to Willow Farm
To look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise
Everyone lies like the fox on the rocks
And the musical box
Oh, there's Mum and Dad, and good and bad
And everyone's happy to be here
There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag
He used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag
The frog was a prince
The prince was a brick, the brick was an egg, the egg was a bird
(Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail)
Hadn't you heard? (they're going to change you into a human being!)
Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese
And wonderfully clean in the morning
We've got everything, we're growing everything
We've got some in, we've got some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone
You name them all, we've had them here
And the real stars are still to appear
(All change!)
Feel your body melt
Mum to mud to mad to dad
Dad diddley office, Dad diddley office
You're all full of ball
Dad to dam to dumb to mum
Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing
You're all full of ball
Let me hear your lies, we're living this up to the eyes
Ooh, aah, na-na-na
Momma I want you now
And as you listen to my voice
To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause
You've been here all the time
Like it or not, like what you got
You're under the soil (the soil, the soil)
Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil!)
So we'll end with a whistle and end with a bang
And all of us fit in our places
With the guards of Magog, swarming around
The Pied Piper takes his children underground
Dragons coming out of the sea
Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me
He brings down the fire from the skies
You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes
Better not compromise, it won't be easy
666 is no longer alone
He's getting out the marrow in your backbone
And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll
Gonna blow right down inside your soul
Pythagoras with the looking glass reflects the full moon
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand-new tune
And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true?
I've been so far from here, far from your loving arms
Now I'm back again
And babe, it's gonna work out fine
Can't you feel our souls ignite?
Shedding ever-changing colours
In the darkness of the fading night
Like the river joins the ocean
As the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home
There's an angel standing in the sun
And he's crying with a loud voice
"This is the supper of the mighty one"
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home
To take them to the new Jerusalem
❤

The first album I ever got by these guys at 14 , well actually at 16 or 17 was the LAMB.....had read bout Genesis for years in circus magazine, I'm 62 now , funny how that works , to this day I still think the LAMB , is the best, but this album is really incredible, I mean INCREDIBLE as is any of their older stuff nursery cryme , if I spelled that correct? I love GENESIS, and had my one chance shot to see them in 78 in Atlanta , GA......on the AND THEN THERE WERE THREE TOUR, whom I got a friend of mine to take me their, he bitched the whole way from AUGUSTA to ATLANTA.....to this day he will tell you it was the best concert he has ever seen, they were so amazing, and still doing quite a bit of the Gabriel era which I truly love....my favorite album ( Phil era) no doubt is AND THEN THERE WERE THREE....I was 18, maybe it's the music , the time of life, my first love, my new car, but I have got laid in my new car to AND THEN THERE WERE THREE, over and over and over...youth ,the best music ever, I truly thank my LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.....for letting me walk the earth in this great era of the greatest music ever, really don't think this earth , people here long after we exit will ever hear, see anything like the magical music we all came up with, going back from start, jazz, Benny Goodman to what somewhere in 2000? We truly were all incredibly damn lucky , were we not ? On that note Jimi jam has left the building...Jimmie from Augusta, Ga.....

The sstory of rock? more like the story of music, art and humanity itself
Is it normal to be that OBSSESSED with a song's outro? Sometimes I feel that I listen to the whole Foxtrot only for that epic ending of Supper's Ready. Dude, one of the most exciting epics in all progressive rock history, hands down.
You aren't the only one. Foxtrot is laid out perfectly, the sequencing of the songs build up in intensity until the very end. Not a wasted minute on the album (you know it's good when Tony Banks feels the same way). I know the boys in the band didn't care for the album artwork, but the finale of Supper's Ready sounds the way the ocean on the front cover looks. The album is like the boys arrive in a mellotron UFO, and leave in a hail of harmonized guitar and tapping to ascend to the New Jerusalem... and, just like many masterpiece albums, the ending is the perfect segue to start it all again from the beginning...
There are some parts of this masterpiece (same on Firth of Firth) that still makes me emotional, funny is that Genesis are far from being my favourite group , but "Foxtrot" and "Selling England..." are simply immortal gems.
@@lukaf2393 its funny that people always say selling england or the lamb as their best, nobody ever says foxtrot :(
@@andrewmoser5539 beautiful comment!! Foxtrot is my favorite
The end is unbelievable - you want it to go on forever. Not sure if I 'get' all of Supper's Ready, but by the end, it doesn't matter anymore - you feel like you're on an escalator to heaven.

No. Sorry but this is one piece of music. No one would (or should) jump to specific parts of the song.
I appreciate the effort that you made putting this together but this is not an album, it is a song. An odyssey of which you must travel the whole journey, not pick out separate parts.

Just turned 59 yrs old on the 12th, yesterday, today....who cares as long as I can LISTEN to this brilliant masterpiece! 😂❤❤❤
When listening to Supper's Ready, I often wonder how any one small group of musicians could create something as powerful as this without knowing beforehand what a masterpiece it would become. I mean, these guys were young when they wrote and produced this song. How could they - without the benefit of hindsight - have put a song together this varied, wondrous, and complete? So many years on, and even soon after its release, we came to know Supper's Ready as a masterpiece of prog rock. But I can't help but wonder if they knew at the time what their efforts would result in as a completed work. How fertile were their minds? Was it just another day at work for them? You know, same shit, different day? Or did they realise they were creating something superlative that we would come to know as something so special that stands high as a work of perfection into the 21st century? A song that would stand the test of time and become a prog classic? When recording it, did they realise how small snippets buried so briefly within the whole, such as "isn't it" and "a flower?" would stand immortal? Or then, did they simply write whatever came to mind and record what sounded good? Who knows? It might simply have been just a spoonful of miracle in the end. So, I am left here all alone to ponder these imponderables. But then having heard the wonder of Genesis and asked these questions, I remain a guaranteed eternal sanctuary fan atop a plateau of green grass and trees full of life. But then, why not? After all I am just Narcissus, a tiny flower. And the moral to this story? Well, I'll leave it in the mouths of its creator … the frog was a price, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg, the egg was a bird... enough said... I rest my case.
Your comment is so in depth that I take my hat off to you.

This is the song I remember. Masterpiece. All of em
As always a trip through the imagination. Still the best track ever recorded by Genesis
My husband has been a huge Genesis fan and was inspired by Phil Collins’ drumming back in the ‘70’s He kept trying to get me into Genesis, but I stubbornly insisted on staying in the ELP, Rush and Yes cycle. I feel such a fool now (but I won’t tell him that). This is other worldly! I am enthralled! I am so hooked! I’ve listened to this song at least 8 times today.
Classic genesis is great. Take a look at: Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and A Trick Of The Tail. Those are my personal favourites

When Gabriel says ," It's been a long , long time , hasn't it?" And , "Now I'm back again , and babe it's gonna work out fine." My heart . I was so in love at the time. I was 17.
Speaking as someone who was brought up on Genesis courtesy of their father, I haven’t heard this song in at least five or six years and my God I forgot that it’s perfection. The transitions are perfect. Going from a subtly psychedelic folk song transitioning to rock anthems, a capella, vaudeville weirdness and all back again. Born in 1989, an indie teen in the 2000s, and Supper’s Ready is one of my favourite songs of all time. Got to be somewhere in the top 100 easily.

The greatest song of all time. I need to buy bass pedals just to feel part of it at the right time and educate my neighbours.
Absolutely an eternal Masterpiece of Genesis.
In this track Peter Gabriel as a God of music . Stunning
Just speechless everytime I listen to this song.
Una obra maestra sobresaliente en ejecución técnica y en creatividad. Es la canción de rock progresivo que más admiro
Genesis with Peter Gabriel was so ahead of its time! And this by far is one of the most creative pieces. I’ve listened to it so many times that it’s note for note word for word happily stuck in my head forever. I’ve always loved Peter Gabriel‘s creativity and I wish the band was able to follow along with it. I know they had big pop hits when Phil Collins switched to lead vocals, but he was awesome on the drums and I wish it stayed the same. When they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they didn’t even include Peter Gabriel! 🤬 What the hell was up with that?!?!
Why is nobody talking about the satisfying synths that just fly through the song 4:29 for example
Groundbreaking. Iconic. Unsurpassable.
OBRA DE ARTE!
MASTERPIECE
supper's ready la piu grande ....ballata ....rock.....della storia ....la.....(genesi)del progressiv!!!🎶🇬🇧🎤🎵🎸📀💪
"Willow Farm", with its "ugly chord sequence", worked as it took the song "into another dimension". Genesis went to the street and picked eight children to record vocals for the song and paid them ten 'bob' (shillings) each. ...
Would be interesting to find these children today. ^^
@Phil Collins Cringe.
Nothing will ever beat this as a piece of prog rock - brilliant
This track is something else. What an EPIC track - there is no other word and the section from about the 20th minute has to be amongst the pinnacles of musical achievement. Listened to this again for the first time in about 40 years and I had forgotten then what this meant to me as a teenager who heard it in the 70s.
There’s an angel standing in the 🌞
Timeless masterpiece. Genesis forever!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EnzoItaly
Supper's Ready is an incredible musical journey by five of the greatest musicians ever. Steve Hackett's and Tony Banks solo's are monumental. Peter Gabriel's voice is magic. A 23 minute masterpiece!🎶🙌
Hace mas de 16 años, esta cancion cambio todo para mi. Esta joya musical hizo que Genesis jamas se fueran de mi vida
I have lost count of the times I have listened to suppers ready since hearing it early Christmas morn 🎉 1973. It's still as fresh as it was on that magical day its amazing they were all so young when they wrote this. And the musicianship is amazing from start to finish. Nothing has been written like this since.
Suppers Ready. Genesis' Opus. Brilliant, most moving music ive heard.
a. "Lover's Leap"
b. "The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man"
c. "Ikhnaton and Itsacon and Their Band of Merry Men"
d. "How Dare I Be So Beautiful?"
e. "Willow Farm"
f. "Apocalypse in 9/8 (Co-Starring the Delicious Talents of Gabble Ratchet)"
g. "As Sure as Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)"
This is one of the songs I can realy dream to without sleeping, and there are some others I just wanted to recommend to everyone who is interested in that: (and of course you won't find any genesis song in this list)
-Cocteau Twins: Wolf In The Breast, Frou-Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires, Heaven Or Las Vegas, Lazy Calm, The Thinner The Air, Alice (actually, all their stuff is very dreamy and calm (it's dream pop) except their first album which is dark wave)
-Tori Amos: Reindeer King, Winter, Bells For Her, The Beekeeper
-Julee Cruise: her whole album "Floating Into The Night"
-Kate Bush (a good friend of Peter Gabriel btw): Eiderfalls at Lake Tahoe, Misty, Snowflake, Hello Earth, Dreaming Of Sheep/Under Ice;´, Wuthering Heights, Kashka from Baghdad (and so many more...she is so beautifully weird)
-Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: His whole albums "Skeleton Tree" and "Ghosteen"!!!! (The masterpiece of Ghosteen is "HOLLYWOOD" as Supper's Ready is the masterpiece off of Foxtrot)
-Dead Can Dance (totally different, very tribal and medieval-alternative-avantgarde-ish, with two singers, one male, one female. the male singer, Brendan Perry, sings most the time in English, the female singer, Lisa Gerrard, who has the strongest and most beautiful voice I ever heard, sings in an own invented fantasy-language): How Fortunate The Man With None, The whole "Spiritchaser" Album, as well as the whole "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun" album, Fortune Presents Gifts Not According To The Book, As The Bell Rings The Maypole spins, The Carnival Is Over, Yulunga, In the Kingdom of the Blind the One-Eyed is King, The Host of Seraphim, Severance, Ulysses (and again, so many more. They don't have really bad songs, and are still active. They released their last Album in 2018!)
Hope you like at least something of it!
One of their 4 best albums.
MASTERS!
Supper's Ready... I Ask You:
How Dare You Be So Beautiful?
First heard on the "Seconds Out," version and on a mono tape recorder which didn't do this track. But then i got a stereo and a Walkman and had this album taped by a good mate of mine around 1984 time. First time i heard this track off that recording I was HOOKED! Couldn't stop playing it for DAYS. And even now when i see a PC keyboard in a public place i have the hankering to type "Suppers Ready = ace," on it. Because it is, ace, it always will be ace and will NEVER get old.
FIVE members produced a sound an orchestra would be proud of Genesis really are number one
couldn't believe when I heard the live version for the first time. I figured there would be some sacrifices in the arrangement. Not at all. and all so young.
Quando si è giovani si fanno cose meravigliose
Una delle più belle e lunghe canzoni dei genesis beautyful song the immortal genesis the best so long
I didn't know Peter Gabriel's Genesis, had no interest in it, out of my own prejudice.
I've discovered Supper's Ready only this year and because of the pandemic distancing.
Now I feel regret for never giving this great phase of Genesis a chance sooner.
Hey, better late than never to discover this music.
Welcome. Glad you could make it (better late than never). Have a seat and enjoy the show, new friend.
@Dave Hughes Better late to the party than too miss it entirely...
Welcome to the Genesis classic lineup. Btw, Steve Hackett survived two albums and two world tours after PG, still considered amongst the best, he is the unsung hero in this story.
I think all Genesis fans know that supper was ready. Take me to a new Jerusalem!!
This song is so amazing but i have to limit how much i listen to it so every time i come back it feels more surprising
yo quisiera saber...como hicieron para encontrar las notas perfectas durante 23 minutos'...POR FAVOR...ARTE.
And its, Hey babe, your supper is waiting for youuoo. Lets put the Magogs aside. Now I am here again. Surely a love song? Class❤
