The more I listen to the Genesis discography, the more I believe that "The Cinema Show" is their best song. There is not one note wasted, no filler for filler's sake, and so so many iconic moments. It's an absolute work of genius.
This and Firth Of Fifth on the same album.
I've got a really big problem. The more I listen to the Peter Gabriel era genesis discography the more I believe that every song is their Best Song. There's not one note wasted, no filler for filler sake but so many iconic moments. Each and every all and singular of this entire catalog are all absolute works of genius. Their very Best Song is the one I'm listening to right now. Adore this band! There is something eternal and heavenly about their music!
@ljgittingeriii3199 my favourite moments in any Gabriel era Genesis tune tends to be the part where Mike Rutherford plays the bass pedals.
Discovering such band as Genesis back in 2018 was one of the best things I’ve ever done with my life.
Back in 2016, same
From the beginning, Welcome!
@@Pyror644 me too
@Пафнутий Белкин only different, not better
@Пафнутий Белкин Hey, I love King Crimson as well, very interesting band!
My favorite track off this album. Phil's drumming blows me away. Damn, I love this band!
Damn right! Phil. What a drummer indeed! Notice how he drums RIGHT WITH Tony and Steve. So fn dope!!
Yeah, Phil Collins pre-Brand X, that magic band of jazz rock!😍
To think Roger Taylor of Queen was approached about joining Genesis before Phil arrived. Queen and Genesis are my two favourite bands. But how things could have turned out…..
@@kdp8133 Roger is a great drummer but MY GOD, Phil is from another world, he's an alien hahahaha.
Phil Collins = absolute drumming God. In this pasticular song: genius unleashed. Period
Agreed.... and by the way, extremely well said !!!
Gabriel era was so brilliant. This album is as good as any - certainly in my top 10 of all time.
A great song from an album that is entirely a masterpiece
That is vile anti-communist propaganda - there is no mention of Wakanda or the scientific contribution of Islam to 1970's Britain. A most racist omission !
@@kayharker712 what fu wrong with you...get out with woke bs
It makes me truly cry every time with joy. That is the degree of its beauty.
Cry every time
I think , without a joke, that i've listened to this song maybe 1000 times and i don 't remember being bored of it , never ever.
The mark of a truly great song. Me too recently, but the Steve Hackett live version with Nad Sylvan on vocals. I can say the same thing about Steely Dan. I've been listening to their music for 45 years and never get bored. This music will last for decades, which can't be said for all the boy and girl bands that are popular now.
Me too. It keeps giving.
Each listen opens another door.
This was my favourite song, but then I found that I liked Firth of Fifth better. I haven't listened to it for a while. This revisit has put it back as my favourite song.
Only 1000? Uh, you're just a beginner...
Same! Whenever I play this for the last 35 years, never bored or had enough.
It took me awhile to appreciate Nursrey Crimes & Foxtrot. When I first heard The Pound, The Lamb and Wind & Withering, I liked them immediately !
5:57 👌👌👌
The whole album is simply a masterpiece
No es una obra maestra ,; Es todo una composición ah nivel Dios
que llega ah la perfección que llega a la inmortalidad por su belleza.
i discovered this band in 1973 i was in Zeppelin but i was a musician. This album changed my way altogether. At 68 im old but its still my favourite album to this day. Enjoy it.
Same year, same impact
Lads are we twins? 73 and 68 now. Unbelievable
Those 12 strings are the musical embodiment of beauty
Cinema Show must go with Aisle of Plenty
Yes.
Absolutely. It was a let down it didn't.
I DON'T BELONG HERE
@@Schimnesthai hmmmmm
I totally agree.they should always go together.😌
This and Firth of Fifth are simply stupendous. Utter genius.
Tony Banks !!!!
The whole 67/75 music scene was utter genius !!! No social, no smartphone, no phookkin pop-idol ...
🎶 The Cinema Show 🎶 In My Opinion One Of The
Most Beautiful Songs Ever Made. Thanks Genesis For
This Excellent, Awesome & Fantastic Masterpiece Of Music,
You're The Best!!!!! GENESIS FOREVER!!!!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼
I couldn't agree more. One of the many masterpieces of their music. It's a shame more people don't listen to their older more intricate stuff before it became a little more pop from the 80's(which is great too in It's own way).
@@garyg905 I once saw an interview with Chester Thompson during which he said that the band was writing music that was more advanced than the technology available to perform it. Amazing stuff.
@@Britz964 Very cool. I wasn't aware of that either. I always enjoyed the new and old music. Every song was very different than the last. Playing the drums I was always amazed at some of the techniques Phil did in the studio and Chester did on tour.
Totally agree. With Firth of Fifth... My 2 top songs ever.
it still makes me cry.
In 1976 a buddy of mine introduced me to this and I threw my Kiss records into the trash where they belonged and never went back.
Es verdad génesis es de otro nivel
Well, it's like comparing a steak and burger. Both are good on their own. It depends on a mood and situation whether you want either of them. Just saying....
well done 😂
Interesting music, a Shakespeare reference, sardonic humor and Greek mythology. What more could anyone want?
One of the greatest songs ever made
The wonderful mind and writing skill of Anthony George Banks, the glue that makes this band the best of all time.
Peter Had a Way of Telling a Good Classical English Story...
True masters at work! The classics. They can't even come close today. 40+ years never loses its magic!!!! Long live Genesis
The best song of history
I think that this was the first song that actually made me fall in love with Genesis, The Musical Box cemented that further.
The Lyrics (by Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford) for those who wish to sing along..
Home from work our Juliet
Clears her morning meal
She dabs her skin with pretty smells
Concealing to appeal
I will make my bed
She said, but turned to go
Can she be late for her cinema show?
Romeo locks his basement flat
And scurries up the stair
With head held high and floral tie
A weekend millionaire
I will make my bed
With her tonight, he cries
Can he fail armed with his chocolate surprise?
Take a little trip back with father Tiresias
Listen to the old one speak of all he has lived through
I have crossed between the poles, for me there's no mystery
Once a man, like the sea I raged
Once a woman, like the earth I gave
But there is in fact more earth than sea
Take a little trip back with father Tiresias
Listen to the old one speak of all he has lived through
I have crossed between the poles, for me there's no mystery
Once a man, like the sea I raged
Once a woman, like the earth I gave
But there is in fact more earth than sea
Great job, Thank you!
Nice. Thank you. I saw a tribute band do Genesis' 1973 show in its entirety about 2016. They had it straight on even to the costumes and Pete's haircut. Very excellent time.
Are They Going Too Tour In April ? My Birthday is On The?12-Th😊 I Will Be? 55🙉
@@crrghommey8150 They are called "The Musical Box" . Great performers. Found a quick link from RUclips. I would love to see them again myself. Happy Birthday early. I turned the same this past July. Born in a great time wouldn't you say?

@@garyg905 Sounds like a great show. They were quite amazing in that era.
Putting the solo in 7/8 was pure genius. Best of everything in this solo.
Genesis could make melodies and rhythms (as Tony and Phil) in odd signatures, flowing as an ordinary 4/4
One of the most imaginative and inspired songs of Genesis. It's got a unique positive and flowing vibe to it.
Another masterpiece song from the incredibly nice album Selling England...thank you Genesis!
It is certainly quite nice
I've been listening to this song for 20 years. It never ceases to amaze me. It manages to give me shivers every time. I can only say Thank you for creating this beauty.
We are together dude 😊
One of the best keyboard solos ever, Tony Banks is underrated
edit: I GET IT, he's not underrated, I commented this a long time ago..
I totally agree. He was always overshadowed by Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson, but put out just as great licks.
I love the moment at 5:51 that 2 second keyboard bit. Idk what it is but it gets me. Tony Banks seems to do that with one little part and he never used it again. There's one in can utility and the coastliners and suppers ready also. Hard to explain.
@@miscellaneousetc.4280 Could you explain a little more about it (I'm interested)? In which sense he didn't use it anymore from there on? And which points in Supper's Ready and Can Utility are you referring to?
@@eliavincenzi8726 I just mean it's used only once in the song. They are such supremely excellent parts. The keyboard break in can utility and the suppers ready part I have to look at the time stamp. But I would be tempted to put them in multiple times in the song. I wait for those moments everytime. The one in cinema show almost always makes me tear up. Banks has a special talent. One for the vine has been getting me lately. But also the rhythm section of Rutherford and Collins is so amazing. Certain times all three are banging away in such perfect unison. I just can't get over this band.
@@miscellaneousetc.4280 Oh, now I get it. The same occurs to me with In The Cage just before "outside the Cage, I see my brother John..." I would listen that section in loop for years.
RUclips has no class. Why put adds in the middle of these masterpieces?
Come on RUclips get your act together!!!
Playing devil's advocate here. In my teens I had to shell out a week's earnings to buy this music on a vinyl disc. Now, with a computer and an Internet connection, it's completely free. But ... it does need to be paid for somehow. If it really bugs you, there is a premium version of RUclips but it has a monthly subscription!

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. A masterpiece. Wonderful.

Bravo, Genesis! I'm standing to applaud the Best Band of the world! I love you! 👏🎼🎶🎸🎹🥁🎙️❤️✨

Genesis is one of my favorites bands at all time....die hard fans of Genesis
Phil's drumming on this work is world class, top shelf. Subtle in parts, rockin' in others but always making the music sound better and driving it forward. You can't hear a better drummer in any other piece.
Phil was said to be quiet influenced by Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 1973.
@@davidpancerev9658 Yes. Phil had a healthy interest in good music. Zappa and Weather Report is where he heard Chester Thompson playing. Oh, and he played jazz/fusion with the band Brand X in the mid-'70s. He said it is some of his best drumming work.
Phil was a sublime drummer throughout his career. His work with Brand X is out of this world.
@@warro3652 Totally agree. Love Brand X with Phil. Bill Bruford also played with them for a time. Say no more. Jazz/Fusion at its best.
He was generous to his bandmates and vice versa, let each other breathe.
Thankfully I was born in the 70's to Enjoy this AWESOME Music...
Take T. S. Eliot's "The Waste Land", add some visionary lyrics by Peter, surround with Tony keyboards, Steve and Mike guitars, Phil drums. Let it go (since 1973) and listen to a masterpiece you'll never get tired of .
Phil stated, when discussing Selling England by the Pound a few years ago, that the lyrics were written either by Peter and Tony, or Peter and Mike, but in this interview from 1974, Peter himself clearly states that the lyrics were written by Mike and Tony. Along with Firth of Fifth. ruclips.net/video/UceDjA7hrD4/видео.html
Tony and Mike wrote the lyrics for Cinema Show
This album shaped me into the Englishman I'm proud to be today.
I farted 🥰
Genesis have made such beautiful music - with both Peter and Phil at the vocals. Thanks to each and every member of this band for all you’ve given us ❤
Their best album.
Those strange chills/goosebumps you may feel when listening to this beautiful song are called frisson. They happen because music stimulates an ancient reward pathway in the brain, encouraging dopamine to flood the striatum-a part of the forebrain activated by addiction, reward, and motivation. Enjoy them! Only ~50% of people get those.
I surely get them my friend , especially with Genesis and other 1970s Prog Rock bands.. Amazing stuff !!
Wow, I never knew that...
Happens to me every time I hear the transition around 2:00. I wish I understood what's actually going on there musically, because wow, is that unexpected and beautiful...
I discovered it listening to music when I could barely walk. And it has been like this since that day.
To me the 2 MUSICIANS Are GREAT and Fantastic...Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel Are Awesome.! From playing Awesome DRUMS AND VOCALS... GENESIS will ALWAYS BE WITH ME...💯💯💯💯💯💯🤗🤗🤗
There's a special place in hell for the one responsible of putting a commercial in the middle of this beautiful masterpiece.
I got 3 ads throughout
AdBlock really works.
Opera browser and extension. Ads are rare.
Aisle Of Plenty is in fact a commercial !
Always remember that we got tons of free music and free concerts… what would we do without RUclips???
Anyway, it’s easy to convert videos into mp3 🤷♂️
...There is in fact more Earth than Sea 🎶
This song will never not give me goosebumps. That chorus (if you can call it one) is so beautifully given by Peter, but then it transcends into madness with keyboard solos galore. Amazing stuff.
Best song on the album!! Who needs invisible touch when we have this?!
We live in a world were both songs can co-exist peacefully, ain't it beautiful?

Invisible Touch is my favorite album by Genesis.
"I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece" - Patrick Bateman
I never say it, and i don't feel like saying it is necessary but i will, this has to be one of the best tracks ever made.
then why wasnt it included on calling all stations
I knew a few songs in my early years. My favorite was The carpet crawlers and your own special way.NOW I've been listening every day for almost 3 years straight.I can say i know n love every song by Genesis, Peter n Phil.Every day n all songs😊oh yea im 67 years old now.
...I Remember Listening to This EPIC Song in the Late 80's.....I WAS HOOKED...And since then...I Always LOVED GENESIS...
The moment I became a fan of Genesis, in the early 80's listening to FM radio at night, court of the crimson king came on the radio, I enjoyed it, but it didn't hook me like the next tune that came on. Then they played Genesis' your own special way, and I knew immediately there was something unique about that band. That song was the hook for me. Little did I know there was more massive work I had yet to hear, like this one.
YOUR OWN SPECIAL WAY is one of the greatest Genesis songs, funny you should mention that.....one of the most BEAUTIFUL songs ever.......
A masterpiece forever...
Collins is just out of this world on the drums
Stratosphere, rhey call it. A true GOD
OMG when their musical juices were overflowing progrock at it's best
Fifty years old, and still gold.
This has to be the best Genesis album, what a classic
first heard this on "underground" fm station back in the day....been my favorite Genesis album since!
Me too, 50 years later. Lamb Lies Down is amazing as well.
This upload feel like an event, I like seeing a lot of fans excited as I am.

Best song of the album and also my favorite Genesis song!
Probably my favorite song of Genesis too
One off the best albums off all time, a masterpiece,
Stupenda armonia..un pianoforte da brividi, iniziati dell'armonia dell'universo..i miei più stupendi ricordi della mia giovinezza.
The breakdown towards the end of the song... about 08:50...wow
Sit back and let that solo just hit you…
Those organ chords behind the synth…
Selling England by the Pound was my introduction into Progressive Rock back in 2001. Couldn't of picked a better album as an introduction if I tried. Not only is it my favourite Genesis album, it's one of my top ten favourite albums overall.
Steve Hackett on that guitar. Whooooo! 🥰🥰🥰
Can a keyboard make you cry? Yes, at 7.20, every time
Musical perfection
Genesis forever!
It never fails, since I bought the record almost 50 years ago, when the 7.00 minute mark arrives in this song, a shiver runs through my body while my eyes get wet. A feeling of absolute pleasure and happiness. I listen to and enjoy all kinds of music, but Genesis and Peter Gabriel are the ones that marked my adolescence the most, then I got carried away by New wave, electronics, a lot of black music, etc. I love good music and I can never be thankful enough that my sister, in 1976, brought me a gift from London, A Trick of the Tail, fresh out of the oven. Then I discovered the band and, little by little, bought all of the past, present records of Genesis and former members, including Brand X. I got to have more than 40 Genesis vinyls, although I think the last one I bought was Duke, the later was already too much. commercial. Anyway, thanks Peter, Mike, Tony, Steve, Phill and even Anthony Phillips for making my life more enjoyable. See you forever!
Fell in love with the band when Trick of the Tail came but didn't see them in concert at the Philly Spectrum until the Duke tour. Loved ever album and concert I could go to or get my hands on.
Long live the Spectrum!!! So sad that they tore it down...
Trick of the Tail is about as perfect as an album can be. I'll listen to that next. Been a fan since 1972. This stuff never gets old to me.
The curse of genius. Where do you go from here, this masterpiece
Incredible job by Tony and Phil in this piece!!!
This album is a masterpiece. Full stop.
Jaaa
This and "firth of fifth" easily the best tracks of the album.
I Remember hearing for the 1st time to GENESIS in the 80's ... With Phil Collins as lead...But When I Heard Peter's Lead Voice...I was Hooked...💯💯💯💯💜💜💜💜🌼🦊🌕
I discovered GENESIS IN 2019, and the first part of the group with Peter Gabriel , not after, makes me reveal a world of genius music !!!!!

Genesis MASTERS❤
Straordinario. Unico. Irripetibile rock sinfonico.
Just a classic! 🎸🎶🎧♥️
I started following these guys in the early 70’s. Concerts, LP’s. I was hooked. But what I wanna say is that the first 2 minutes of this song is one of the most precious pieces of music I’ve ever heard, before it goes into the more lively sections. Delicate and simply lovely.
My fav band ever 1973 heard this 7th grade san jose ca gabriel n collins the best
Oh there you are Peter!!❤️
goosebumps and jaw dropping song
Música linda, com Peter Gabriel cantando, é demais!
What a masterpiece! I haven't listened to this for ages. It strikes me now how much Steve Hackett's playing has in common with Steve Howe's. Amazing.
This is the first time I've heard this song...and I'm really sad knowing I will never get the experience of listening to this for the first time again.
but you will listen to it hundreds of times and each time is just as good as the last!
The best 5 piece band ever .

Absolute masters.
Its my Heart.
The part from 5:21 ongoing is of great beauty.....Genesis will always stay one of my favourite bands....until the day I die!

2nd album i bought in the 70s, (dark side of the moon 1st) still think this is their best work - although loved everything since - just the vocal harmonies are beautiful and Tony Banks, well no need to say any more; superb
