The more I listen to the Genesis discography, the more I believe that "The Cinema Show" is their best song. There is not one note wasted, no filler for filler's sake, and so so many iconic moments. It's an absolute work of genius.

I've got a really big problem. The more I listen to the Peter Gabriel era genesis discography the more I believe that every song is their Best Song. There's not one note wasted, no filler for filler sake but so many iconic moments. Each and every all and singular of this entire catalog are all absolute works of genius. Their very Best Song is the one I'm listening to right now. Adore this band! There is something eternal and heavenly about their music!

The Lyrics (by Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford) for those who wish to sing along..
    Home from work our Juliet
    Clears her morning meal
She dabs her skin with pretty smells
    Concealing to appeal
    I will make my bed
She said, but turned to go
Can she be late for her cinema show?
    Romeo locks his basement flat
    And scurries up the stair
With head held high and floral tie
    A weekend millionaire
    I will make my bed
    With her tonight, he cries
Can he fail armed with his chocolate surprise?
Take a little trip back with father Tiresias
Listen to the old one speak of all he has lived through
I have crossed between the poles, for me there's no mystery
Once a man, like the sea I raged
Once a woman, like the earth I gave
But there is in fact more earth than sea
Take a little trip back with father Tiresias
Listen to the old one speak of all he has lived through
I have crossed between the poles, for me there's no mystery

The moment I became a fan of Genesis, in the early 80's listening to FM radio at night, court of the crimson king came on the radio, I enjoyed it, but it didn't hook me like the next tune that came on. Then they played Genesis' your own special way, and I knew immediately there was something unique about that band. That song was the hook for me. Little did I know there was more massive work I had yet to hear, like this one.

It never fails, since I bought the record almost 50 years ago, when the 7.00 minute mark arrives in this song, a shiver runs through my body while my eyes get wet. A feeling of absolute pleasure and happiness. I listen to and enjoy all kinds of music, but Genesis and Peter Gabriel are the ones that marked my adolescence the most, then I got carried away by New wave, electronics, a lot of black music, etc. I love good music and I can never be thankful enough that my sister, in 1976, brought me a gift from London, A Trick of the Tail, fresh out of the oven. Then I discovered the band and, little by little, bought all of the past, present records of Genesis and former members, including Brand X. I got to have more than 40 Genesis vinyls, although I think the last one I bought was Duke, the later was already too much. commercial. Anyway, thanks Peter, Mike, Tony, Steve, Phill and even Anthony Phillips for making my life more enjoyable. See you forever!

I started following these guys in the early 70’s. Concerts, LP’s. I was hooked. But what I wanna say is that the first 2 minutes of this song is one of the most precious pieces of music I’ve ever heard, before it goes into the more lively sections. Delicate and simply lovely.
