VERY Floyd/Zeppelin-ish....hence the reason it's a favorite of many.

I love when the big beat kicks in. I always imagined a fly clinging onto a fast moving vehicle, wings flipping with the intense wind.
Individually Peter, Phil, Tony, Steve and Mike were great, but together they were MAGIC!
Listening to this in April 2023. Without a shadow of a doubt this is my favourite track from this album - intense, intoxicating and innovative
My favorite track on the album, such a heavy atmosphere. Love when the band did a expanded version of the instrumental. Steve Hacketts version on Genesis Revisited is well done too

To pretend like there isn't excellent musicianship in every era of Genesis (Including Calling All Stations) is to be purposefully ignorant. Honestly, they're probably just jealous that Genesis was the most successful after Gabriel's departure.

@@oliverhovde6605 They HAD to change with the times. They could never get away with TLLDOB or SEBTP type albums in the 80s. I really think Phil and company made a smooth transition beyond PG-era Genesis.
I listen the lamb since 1974,i love it,i saw the concert in turin 24 3 75 .When i hear fly on .......Steve excites me with the guitar.A great.

This song was my introduction to Genesis - the Gabriel years. I was in college playing Genesis Trick of the Tail (this was the early 90s). My neighbor heard it, came over and said listen to this
.. the rest is history.
That titanic drop is still reverberating on seismic monitors worldwide to this very day.

The set up of this incredible song reminds me of "The Thin Ice"... Sort of melodic with vocals, and then rips into a nice jam. One of the best tunes on this album. Short and Sweet. :)

This album is forever linked for me to my 1980, 17 y old boyfriend.. This is.He was a big fan of Genesis, this is the 1st album/music we listened together. We were going to see a Genesis cover by his brother band 's friend. He died in a car accident in the afternoon. I learned his death couple hours later on the radio coming to the intersection of the collision as I was going to shop for a dress for the event,....... I found the strength that evening to go see the show by love for him..if you lost someone you'll understand why...Forever for you PQ!

It's scandalous how this song is cut off prematurely just like in the CD version, where Broadway melody still contains the final part of Fly. And, in 2024, no one has noticed yet. I've been seeing the same error for 45 years, never fixed.

I just watched a documentary about Jim Jones and his death cult. They mentioned that when he used cyanide-laced juice for the mass suicide, it would have tasted like bitter almonds.
Then I remembered the line in this song: "the cheerleader waves her cyanide wand, there's a smell of peach blossom and bitter almond.
You should also remember that this song came out 4 years before the mass murder/suicide, which makes it even more eerie

Great but if music!....I can see where Mr. Hackett got the inspiration later to write The Steppes.
Genesis has always been a big part of my musical development. I wanted to celibrate their music by making this tribute album.
