I shoot all my videos on the Sony a6500 in 4K, with Sigma 16mm, 19mm & 30mm and 55-210mm f1.4 lenses and the Zhiyun Crane V2.
Don’t feel alone, we’re all mortified with your driving too.
I was channeling my inner Harley.
That made me LOL. Well said.
@@scalebuildersguild I don't think Josh will let you play with his Vanquish any time soon.
I've got my own, not to worry.
Good thing the portal boxes are built into the axles or we might be seeing another portal delete.... 😂😁
Your decision to discuss the technical points of the kit in voice-over, while showing the rig performing is a lesson for everyone making this kind of video.
Thanks very much! I had so much nice outdoor footage, that it had to be used! I like this format too!
He knows we don’t want to see his ugly face
Thanks for thoroughly testing the T-440! Never sent one off a cliff before.
Element proof, and Cliff proof!
Thank you for pointing out the "We Rock Buggies" that clears up my main concern with it's scale, paradigm shift complete. Excellent review, very thorough and helpful. Peace.
Cheers man! Glad I could help shift your paradigm!
OMG! The cliff launch was hilarious, the noises were BaD! Glad it was you instead of me...the ROLLoMETER is totally sick...scalebuiltrc...Thank You! Must have..

Glad you like it man

I'm starting my build of my Capra this weekend, very excite! lol
Nice! Enjoy it!
That tilt meter system is awesome!
It's a pretty cool little unit!
Best review of the Capra out there.
You're very kind!
At first I thought it was a joke but damn that was way down there👏🏻👏🏻👍👍
It sure was. Took a long time to get down there! Still amazed it survived pretty much unscathed.
This kit will be my introduction to axial products. I get my kit tomorrow and I’m beyond excited as I’m a huge WE rock fan.
Fantastic! Enjoy! Ask as many questions as you like!
From here on out, this kit taught me. Go to the manufacturer website and check for a manual to see if there are updates. The dig box building, and driveshaft parts was an interesting learning experience. /s
Good job on pointing out the scale aspects of this type of crawler (portals/ams/dig). I remember many years ago (before there were youtube videos of everything ever) people arguing on the RcCrawler forurms, that a "scale" build couldn't have things like 4wheel steering or front dig! Back then, it seemed like a lot of the people who were hardcore into RC and scale builds didn't know anything about 1:1 'wheelin.
I'm glad to see that you beat the flu. I did check into the cost of flowers.(It was flowers to you or vanquish chassis kit, the chassis kit was the winner) But it was a hard choice. Good review
Wait, am I getting the chassis, or are you? 😉
I would send you the chassis, but that would make the start of the third vanquish crawler and I don't want to be the person that would put you in bankruptcy. But I can send you a florida t-shirt .
Thank you for the link to the digital manual. I didn't know it was available, I looked myself but didn't see it
We’ve chucked the rig off a 50 ft. cliff and it survived should be a part of Axial’s new marketing campaign and a slogan on ever box.
Hahaha, totally right?!
I love the 30T Tekin! I've used it on a number of my builds as well.
Matt..... You are the WINNER in the Capra stress testing challenge!!! 😳😯😉
I of course, am so excited to get one, and know with 100% certainty that I WON'T be able to afford one. 😖😭
I'm used to it, but seeing so many people I know getting one..... you know.
That was bar none, the BEST Review and Overview of this stunning new Rig!! Period.
The XR length Axles brings up something for future brainstorming....
WHY NOT put them under a Wraith or Bomber!!! Axle reduction, 3.75:1 gearing and PORTALS would really be a very cool upgrade!! 😎👊
I know you mentioned the high gearing.... which for a pure Crawler isn't ideal.
Two thoughts......
This could be a great opportunity for the Aftermarket to produce *Underdrive Gears* for the AR44 Diff. That could benefit more than just the Capra. 😉
And, that higher Gearing could be advantageous to People who live, maybe in a Desert 🏜..... Like, Me! Lots of wide open flat Desert, tall Dunes and Mountainous Rocks, all within 120mi of Central Arizona!!!
...... Could start a new Chapter of U4RC Competition!!! 👍👍
Or just be fun to blast in wide open spaces.

Cool video, thank you. Always enjoy the "not quite right" naming of parts in the rc world "roll o meter" aka inclinometer. I remember seeing these in many toyotas
Great video and great spot for the shoot. Seems that off a cliff or thrown off a roof is a great way to see what’s hanging by a thread
HAHAHAHAHA
Wish you had footage of the 50’ fall. Thanks for the review!
I'm glad I don't!
Another bang up review (pun intended!) Excited to get mine finished. What a fantastic location to crawl though, hard to find stuff like that in central VA. Great job!
I'm very fortunate to have this location so close to me!
The parkway is always a fun place to crawl. I'm in central VA also.
I love running my lights during the day, when is too much light ever a problem hehehe. Great video as always, and great review of what has become my favorite crawler. I think it looks cool and it does crawl pretty good right out of the box with just some small tuning. 👍👍👍👍👍 I would call the launch off the cliff and stage dive hehehe.
Yea, the Capra has become my favorite as well. Though, I did put in a remote switch on it so I can turn the lightbar/headlights on/off from my remote. Now to tie in some taillights.
Maybe I'll wire up a Y harness and get it going again!
More Hangtime than Harley's Monthly Mayhem!
Proper boom roasted!
Very much so. I beat him again!
"have to" put together? More like "get to" because I enjoy building kits more than running them
It's about 75%/25% for me in favor of building vs. driving!
I couldn't agree more.
RC company's love it when you buy a kit if it's defective they can blaim you for it! 😂🤣😂
I agree
Yep best part of rc building! Then you also know how to fix it !
Funniest thing... I did that this weekend too... except I broke the ears off of one of my front portal boxes. Nothing else happened. I'm impressed with how strong the rig is.
its awesome to see that WE ROCK is gaining more traction. rock crawling has been going down in popularity so mentioning that it was designed after some WE ROCK cars is awesome to hear! hopefully Dirt Riot can get some spotlight soon!
ROLL-O-METER?!?!?! Awesome! :)
Excellent review Matt. Even after watching several videos about the Capra, yours still shines brightly. Come over to the Reno area sometime...I can show you falls of several hundred feet...LOL
I'll take you up on that!

50 foot cliff , been there, done that with my scx10II
Another fantastic review which is as usual honest, informative and fun to watch.... now I want a Capra even more.... thanks
I just finished mine tonight! Really excited to drive it!
Me and my grandson at a comp last weekend and he flipped his truck off a 25' cliff straight down smash it up pretty good but got home and bet it back straight. He really to go again.
Wow 50-foot drop!?! 🙀
Anyway...just want get info on that mesh to cover up the wiring. Makes the rig look clean. Thanks. 👍🏼

Not really my kinda rig, but really great review and nice running footage.
I wonder how a slammed hard body camanche would look on that chassis 🤔
Ha, could be interesting! Thanks for watching!
J K probably pretty great
I love the XR10 and have 2 that are both in pieces. I just never have time to build them up. One is a new kit I bought online that I’ve started the build but get frustrated or just never have that much extra time and would rather use the time I do have actually driving instead. I need to find either a builder or a trade for an RTR axial rock crawler or even one of these. I am mobility challenged and tend to use most of my RCs in the house. Maybe I should make a foam course using wall insulation foam sheets.
XR10's are very fun crawlers! Have you considered the smaller SCX24? They make perfect indoor crawlers, and aren't terribly expensive!
I’ve looked at a lot. Even the Losi mini crawler. I just can’t really afford anything right now. I’m trying to contact Axial to see if they might be able to point me in a direction to a reliable builder who might be able to help. Axial is by far my favorite RC manufacturer. If I could, I would have one of each. When I first saw the Bomber I fell in love but this Capra has taken its place. Still not the MOA XR10 but it seems nice.
You know, if you don't tighten the screws down all the way for the front hood posts, you can rotate the body clips back under the hood and make them disappear. :) I did that by accident when I first built it and decided that I was going to leave it like that.
That's a really smart idea Greg, one I'll definitely use. Thanks!
Love the paint job!
Thanks!
Servo on Axle, and Dig, my two favorite parts! So maybe put these Portal Axles and the Dig style slush box, running under the Jeep 2000 xj rtr. I would be set!!!
I really like you take on the capra. I am probably going to get one. Wow take 50ft launch was kinda cool and kinda sad!!!
Yo, Traxxas! A similar RTR open-wheel rock crawling buggy sure would be nice. Ya know; something I can run using your connectors, batteries, and chargers. I don't want/need Traxx here in the hi-desert, and three axles mean nothing more than higher costs in maintenance/parts/accessories IMHO. But I'd buy a rig like this in a NY-minute.
I found this to be a great unbiased review. Not certain this is a kit I would be interested in at this time.
Cheers! 👍
The one thing about this truck is the reason I am getting rid of my crawler-tuned Bomber, having to take most of the truck apart to get to the electronics.
i love that shreddy lyfe paint job
Hi Matt, I just recently bought the RC4WD Wrangler tires that I've seen you use in the VS-410 and I believe the Ripper. I live in the same region as you in Western NY and was wondering if the Proline Krawlers are more suitable for rock crawling where the Wranglers would be better for trail running? Thank you, Matt.
The tread pattern on the MT/R's is way more open, so likely better suited to our environment, I'd give them a go!
Great review, just picked up the kit. Not real happy with the dig setup. Hoping to get a new Hobbywing Fusion 1800Kv installed and using a Savox 1210 servo for now.
I thought it strange that the box has the Nitto tire logo on it with a picture of the Capra sporting Pro-line Hyrax tires then finding out there were no tires in the kit.
At least you didn't chase it off edge of cliff. Seen some close calls with less smart people.
I wisely know when to NOT run after something!
Hi Matt thank you for answering my question 👍🏻
I like the Capra I did Castle Mamba X 2850 slate motor, JX Cls HV 7346 servo...I am running my BEC at 7.4 volt and the Spertrem 107 servo is hanging in there I did have 2.2 tires on it but went to 1.9 in and removed the CC 2850 and put in a HH Revolver 1800 with a 11 tooth pinion ....its been awesome yeah the stock servo arm broke about two days later more like the huge 2.2 proline flat irons cause that...
Sounds like a fun, if somewhat crazy idea! Ha!
I am still having a hard time understanding why a dig servo needs a servo saver? Your rig is looking good I am definitely interest and and seeing some of the customization zones you make along with some of the more scale changes. I think this truck could be super cool once people start making all of the necessary modifications and of course making at their own by adding new bodies and setting up different variations. Looks good man
I presume it's because people don't spend hours adjusting their EPA's like I do! Ha!
I tried brushless on my Wraith changed to brushed. I was going to buy one but decided to buy a Cross FR-4 instead.
Wow, totally different! I need to try a Cross truck at some point!
5:40 "And uhh ... the only way to test it, (next part said quickly) is drive it off cliffs! HaHaHaHa! The look on his face and the way he said this made me loose my shit! Love it!

I think we all have a set of bull horns in our bins. Axial already accidentally acknowledged the Capra looks like a Bomber.
That was a misinformed social media guy not doing his homework! 😉
Man them axles would be awesome on the new axial raw builders monster truck(Grave Digger RTR) as my real 83 Chevrolet Silverado or blazer body with some 2.6 fling king tires! Think that is going to be my summer build but I like that Capra in Alabama we have mud trucks and rock bouncers but the R/C version is so much easier in my 18 wheeler! That's awesome it still preformed like it did after 50' crash!! 🤘🤘
Awesome vid mate, very well captured 👍
You mentioned shock quality seems better on the Capra and on the UMG 10in that review also. I was wondering how the shocks are holding up on the UMG10. Any leaking?
I'd say these are better than the UMG10, those might still be the old plastic.
BEST INTRO EVERrrrr. ...........boom!
Hahahaha, thanks!
Cant wait to get mine from Santa!
I like building more than driving sometimes :) but no tires? Which kit doesn't have tires? Or the scale /raw builders kit? Additional cost if you're not aware and not a fan about that.. Car looks cool though, specially with the portal axes..
Very well done review
Thanks very much!
If the lipo smoked after the cliff dive and being on camera, would that have won in InBurno challenge?
It likely would have, yes. ;)
Was that on the red trail at rattlesnale point conservation area. If so i really need to run there agian. It looks like a great area
I got the 3 position switch to work fine using a Sanwa MT-S

I cracked up about the bullhorns. I keep holding mine up to my honcho and then chucking them back in the drawer.lol
Could you please link the new pinion gear and wheel weights you used? Would the weights fit stock RTR wheels? Thank you so much for this video.
Great job seriously
Thanks!
Great review!
Thank you!
Nice video Matt. Lots of good info.
I normally don't laugh at other folks trauma; but the recording of the cliff dive that went on forever was hilarious! Sorry dude. And now for something completely different (reference really ages me 😂) what scale wheel hubs are those?
Hahaha, thanks! GCM Racing makes those hubs!
One Fast Like for the 50 feet Intro;))
its a very nice place to crawl
Rattlesnake!!! Love that place to play in.
I don't know anything about crawlers, 4x4 and scale but, hey, you are so cool that I want a vehicle now!! What's the best car for a beginner like me ? Thank you for the vids and for the advice :)

So I've heard! Hahaha
Great video. I really enjoyed that 👍🏼
would it help much if they had separate front and rear motors? that way you could have the dig feature or overdrive on the front and rear
No, I don't think that would be helpful.
Hey Matt, when I slow down my footage in my software, even just a small percentage, it makes the audio very high pitched. Do you experience this as well and have to adjust the audio equalizer, or have any other tricks to share? The running footage looks great! You really captured the right way to drive this rig. Using wheel speed but not just mindlessly bashing it.
What editing software are you using?
@@TyTekinCampbell Vegas 16. It just strikes me as odd because usually when you slow down footage the audio would get deeper, and if you make it faster the audio gets like a chipmunk, but in my case it seems to be the opposite. Slow makes it higher pitched.
Check to see if your software allows for "Maintaining Pitch" in your slow motion controls. If it's checked, try turning it off.
I would like to see one running the original AR44 Axles, I am not really a fan of the Portal Axles.
Yah man I drove my Rock Rey into a river. Just straight into it. Just pushed the trigger while on the phone. ZOOOoooommmmm
Well it happened, it actually happened! A new rig came out with portal axles, an absurdly wide track width, non-crawler gearing, screwed up portal geometry that does not allow wheels to fit over it, a sky high center of gravity, and limited access to most components. Suddenly, portal axles are great, high CG makes it competition worthy, the gearing screwup is merely room for improvement, it's okay to immediately slap weight on it to keep it from flipping over, you just gotta deal with that pesky access problem, and that wide track width will be great in comps. I waited patiently and it happened. lol My god, Does Axial/Horizon pay your rent and power bill too!
If you think that I’d compromise my integrity for a few dollars, you don’t know me very well. Pretty insulting really. XR width axles have been around for years and comp rigs are routinely made that width for competition and added steering. Most wheels fit just fine, but that problem isn’t limited to Axial. Any portal will have that issue. And yes, portals on this platform make sense, as they’re pretty common on this style of buggy in real life. As for the rest of it, I made some suggestions for things I would do to make it even better than it already is. Does it need wheel weights? No. Would shorter shocks help lower the CoG? Yes. Is it difficult to access electronics? Yes. Could it be geared better? Yes. Did I say that? Yes. I think I presented all the points, both positive and negative pretty well. Is it still a great platform? I think so, but ultimately that’s just my opinion.
@@scalebuildersguild Well, it wasn't intended as an insult but rather a jab made in disbelief. Anyway, I finally got what I was after. I just wanted to see and hear the hypocrisy first hand. I'll not longer visit your channel.
I spoke about the shortcomings, gave some suggestions for improving it, and explained why I liked what I liked. The beauty of a review, it's my opinion. If that doesn't jive with you, there's no need to fire some low blows, just move on. Which it sounds like you're doing. Best of luck!
I did the same thing with my Ripper but it was more like 70 ft;)
Ooof! Did it survive?
One run with Harley was ten times worse;) like a bass Fest kind of mortified by his driving:)
I’m convinced this is doable as a crawler thanks! Would this be a class 3?
Great video 😄👍.... comparing to the video you made with the Gatekeeper, I would choose the Capra. Portals and SOA makes it 😆
Yes! The Capra is a much more capable crawler. Thanks for watching!
Where might I find the 4Runner RC truck you have?
I assume its a Body Shell?
3D printed body kit. Available through Manitou Liu on Facebook.
Those Helios 1500 packs are all I run anyway.
They're a great little pack!
Sometimes I be driving my merv and be like I can’t believe I just did that when I crash😂
What are the color that you used to paint the capra? If you can give me the color codes I will appreciated it.
Hey, Tamiya PS White, Black, Cobalt (54) and Cherry (33).
@@scalebuildersguild thanks
As always great video sir. If I may ask how did you paint the interior? Thank you.
I painted the main color on the inside like traditional lexan, and painted the driver figure on the outside.
Um I think you mean to say that it is FRONT DIG since the rear tires are not being powered there for not digging into the terrain. Rear dig is when the rear is powered.😀
Well, the front never changes, the rear engages or disengages, so doesn’t it make more sense to call it a rear dig?
@@scalebuildersguild I think its simply the front tires are turning or digging into the terrain by engine power and dragging the rear end around, hence front dig or I guess you can call it rear drag.
Hi Matt, when installing the T440 servo, did you run into a problem with the servo arm hitting the front pumpkin of the front Currie axle? If so, did you have to use spacers to move the servo out? Thank you.
I used the kit servo arm, no clearance issues.
So if you allready had an scx10 ii as a trail rig and wanted to add somthing thats more of a buggy to your collection what would you pick out of a capra and a bomber
A good question. I think I’d choose Capra over Bomber at this time. Bomber is great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s probably more suited to going fast than purpose built for crawling like the Capra.
I think the portals will still look good on the UMG10
Might be worth swapping just to see!
