Great video! I really liked the running footage with commentary. I have been running a custom 4WS Capra and love it. I’m sure many more people will realize how fun it makes the Capra.
I’ve been wanting a capra since they first came out but keep getting distracted with other vehicles. After this video I’m sold on the four wheel steer Capra.
I wanted a 4ws rig but since Axial doesn't offer a kit version of theirs, I bought the 2ws Capra kit and converted it. I modified the cage to clear the servo and moved the servo back 5mm to clear the receiver box. I use a 6 channel TX so I have independent front/rear proportional steering, functional dig and can turn my lights on/off via a switch on the TX. My radio system has telemetry so I get feedback on the rigs battery without having to buy a special battery. The way the controls are setup I never have to take my hands off the TX and never have to take my eyes off the rig. The motor is a Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion Pro with built-in ESC and FOC. This makes it much easier to fit everything in and wire it up. Normally in order to get the dig function, you have to buy a specific Spektrum servo because a key part required to use the linkage included in the Capra is not included in the kit and only comes with said Spektrum servo. I got around this by 3D printing my own adapter in order to use which ever servo I wanted and the included servo saver dig linkage. Pretty shady of Axial if you ask me. Still, I love my 4ws Capra. It's one of my most capable crawling rigs.
Capra seems to be the best rock crawling. It's like climbing a spider attached to a rock. RUclipsr's rc car control is like a pro. it was a great video👍👍👍
Compare this radio to what comes on the $150 redcat Ridgecrest crawler with full radio mixing for the steering and it's really sad. The radio setup axial chose is only a little better than soldering a 3 position switch into a tq3 radio like people used to do.
Excellent video, enjoyed learning the updates and watching it run the course. I just found out, and used a program card on the firma 40. Makes a huge difference!!
There is no drag brake box stock. I bought the same Currie edition, I put a 1080esc with the stock 35t motor and changed the pinion to a 13t and now it has plenty of drag brake. And I’m using a fly sky gt5 and I can adjust my rear steer like my front steer. It’s a very amazing Rc and I’m very happy with it!
Great video. I mainly like to drive my rigs and not do a lot of upgrades. When the first Capra came out, it reminded me too much of my Bomber. However, this new version seems very impressive using the 4WS on difficult climbs. I will probably add this one to my collection.
Great video and great job 👏 👍 i have been wanting a capra, almost picked up one at axialfest this year, but got a scx10 2 instead that was my first axial crawler,i have a trx4 defender that i have completely upgraded and the scx10 2 is a comp rig now and has all vp f9 axles and all links and everything rockpirate rc upgrades as well, now i am seriously considering buying the 4ws capra to add a buggy to my Arsenault of rigs, i also have the ryft and a scx24
4ws is cool, but how in 2021 do they offer it without a radio that mixes the steering? 2 buttons to steer the rear? Redcat had a radio with 4 wheel steer mixing and 4 steering modes 10 years ago...on a crawler that cost $150! I feel like axial really cheaped out here...this radio is only slightly better than how we used to install a 3 position switch into a traxxas tq3 to run rear steer on crawlers 15 years ago.
They did it specifically because that is how it is done in the competition market. We never use mixed steering in competition, because independent has proven over and over to be more powerful. I knew when I saw that they did it this way that people would feel the same way that you do, but I fully agree with their choice. I don't run Spektrum radios personally, and I'll be changing this truck over to my Futaba but I'll still be programming it exactly the same as it is on the stock radio.
because mixed steering is garbage. No one that actually uses rear steer to crawl wants mixed steering. And yes, I'm still running Traxxas radios with a 3 pos switch on my crawlers.
I would recommend it .I just brought the red one also and your video is spot on for the info you provided thanks for the honest none biased review lol so many big words from myself I'm just a simple mechanic with a rc addiction I already have one capra maybe time to downsize 🤔nah what was i thinking about the one with the most toys wins have a great day everyone and get out of the house and play
Great video! Thanks. The gearing is strange, waaay too fast. I have only one crawler trx4 Bronco 2021. What do you think is this one a good option? Or another 4w driving car? Thanks
What would be the easiest fix for the drag break issue. It’s surprising that it would not have a really good drag brake. I’m assuming there’s no way to program it to increase it. I had 2 RC’s for my top priority buys. Now I have three & this one now sits on top of that list for the simple fact I have crawlers already & one rock racer so a buggy not just gives me a new RC but adds another style to my collection.
I haven't tried to plug it into either the spektrum programmer of a hobbywing programmer to check on the adjustability of the drag brake. I assume that there is a little more that can be cranked into it.
Josh Thanks for the information as always great content. It might not be 100% up to your standards, over all I'm glad you approve of the truck. I like it myself and its on the list. Keep the content coming and have a great holiday. Safe Travels.
Would you highly recommend this truck over a trx4? I have a trx4 TRAXX edition but looking to grab another crawler for the son and I and I have my eye here. The 4 wheel steer is intriguing and it looks like a monster out of the box considering that course you was on it was fun to watch! The way you talk in the trans scares me from getting it. But I don’t I do what I seen in this video lol any feedback is appreciated! Thanks love the video.
Love your stuff, man. I own 4 VS4's. And all my other trucks have some Vanquish or Incision on them. Quick question, does the reciever have 4 channels or will I have to change out that too if I want to use the dig? Love your commentary driving vids. As always, Have fun
hey i believe you use the gt5 transmitter, i got a dig for my truck and i want to be able to use it in 3 position, 4wd fwd and rwDIG. i have a 3ch receiver that binds to the gt5. can i get one of my channel 5 or 6 dials to control the 3rd channel on the receiver, or can i only make those work if i have a 6 channel receiver? i hope you can help
Will the vanquish three speed transmission fit in the new Capra 4ws? I literally just purchased mine a week ago and I am ready to do some upgrade including getting a lower gear ratio
You mean the 3 gear transmission right? It’s not a 3 speed, it has 3 gears inside of it. The answer is that it WILL fit, but you need to change the skid plate. I do that in a follow up video on this truck.
Awesome just started to follow you and I definitely enjoyed the videos but I have to admit I'm dumping just as much money into this as my real crawling Jeep 😂😂😂
Why can't axial make a complete rig? Pick dig or 2 speed. Pick 4ws or dig. Pick this or that. Why can't we have it all in one? At least they didn't put a jeep body on it...
I think that blur helped smooth out the terrain!
Protecting the identity of the rocks
Great video! I really liked the running footage with commentary. I have been running a custom 4WS Capra and love it. I’m sure many more people will realize how fun it makes the Capra.
It’s been my favorite Rc now, since I bought it! Ruined my thoughts on other rc’s! Haha Dang 4WS!! Game changer!
Pro level comp stance right there

Nice video, I turned my capra to 4ws and I love it. It's a very capable rock crawler. John
This is a cool rig. But Axial needs to use a controller/receiver combo with enough channels to allow useage of all the features they are including.
I agree. However if what I heard is correct the receiver/esc is 4 channel capable. So if you had a spectrum radio with more channels you can bind it.
Compare this radio to what comes on the $150 redcat Ridgecrest crawler with full radio mixing for the steering and it's really sad. The radio setup axial chose is only a little better than soldering a 3 position switch into a tq3 radio like people used to do.

Great video Josh! The rig looks like a blast to drive. Really enjoyed the comp course footage!
How about the new capra on ryft portals 4 wheel steer and dig on droop? Oh my wheels are turning.

My current project is an 4WS original Capra Kit. Done with the mods, just waiting for a new RX.
Great video. I mainly like to drive my rigs and not do a lot of upgrades. When the first Capra came out, it reminded me too much of my Bomber. However, this new version seems very impressive using the 4WS on difficult climbs. I will probably add this one to my collection.
Good video! Cool to see you run it on a comp course with it being stock.
At least you can set the drag brake with the hobbywing 1080 programme box great video old boy

Well, I’m glad you gave it another chance and actually enjoyed it. I’m sure you can do a few upgrades to make it more to your liking.
I haven't run 4 wheel steer since my last Clodbuster based crawler.
Just might sell me on 4-wheel steer? 🤔 The Capra did great, held her own! Thanks for the video 👍
The Capra kit has been added to my cart and then removed maybe 5 times this last year. Maybe it’s time lol

I am just now starting to have an interest in rc truck and I am wondering if you can recommend any trust worthy rc RUclipsrs and starting rc trucks
Good review on the truck and awesome to see you at the event! Keep killing it with the videos!
The one new part the you didn't mention. That i was sure you would, is AXI332001 6-bolt 27/8 Overdrive Gear Set (Provides 12% overdrive)
So I am new at this, around 2:36 you mention “dig”. What is dig?
Great video! Thanks. The gearing is strange, waaay too fast. I have only one crawler trx4 Bronco 2021. What do you think is this one a good option? Or another 4w driving car? Thanks
I wonder if they’ll release a kit version of this, I’d love to have one with a flysky get-5 radio to have more control over the rear steer.

IMHO a Holmes motor.

You can use a dynamite program card on the firma 40. There’s 14 different things you can control the settings on. Did mine today, HUGE difference!
SOOKIEEEEE! Nice driving.
Nice video, do you think a 65 turn motor would help with the gearing ??
Thanks for sharing. Do think this truck would benefit from some front overdrive?
Absolutely
Josh
Thanks for the information as always great content. It might not be 100% up to your standards, over all I'm glad you approve of the truck. I like it myself and its on the list. Keep the content coming and have a great holiday. Safe Travels.
red capra;)sweet, smaller pinion, slower motor and smaller wheels help a lot
Saw you got got your "stance" on. Great job with the running video, reassuring to see you get flustered sometimes thought it was only me...

Its a truck I do enjoy and would suggest it. The trans gearing is not ideal but still runs.
Yeah man I've always loved my Capra. It smoked that course
I didn’t live the first one but actually really enjoy this one!
@@HarleyDesignsInc glad to hear you enjoy it brother. Appreciate you
So is Vanquish coming out with a new trans gear set?
I need to buy a 4ws cage now
A trick was missed here. Would of been nice to see the use of modified wraith dig components.
Love your stuff, man. I own 4 VS4's. And all my other trucks have some Vanquish or Incision on them.
Quick question, does the reciever have 4 channels or will I have to change out that too if I want to use the dig?
Love your commentary driving vids. As always,

Firma 40a is a 4 ch receiver/esc combo.

I run Futaba radios, so I won't be any help on the Flyskys.
Now that they are sold 4ws rtr, mine isnt cool anymore. :(
What do you think would be the best solution for that high gearing? Anything other than changing the pinion?
I'll likely change to a 3-gear transmission ultimately but you could also change the axle gears to an underdrive gear set to lower the ratio.
Are we gonna see more videos of the 4ws and put a 3 gear Trans?
I think so!
Awesome video sir.. You have some great driving skills..
Hello do you drive it with 2s or 3s?
fuel cell looks to be smaller and maybe even longer links in rear? can you confirm?
Different fuel cell indeed but I think the links are the same.
Great video, excellent review.
Will the vanquish three speed transmission fit in the new Capra 4ws? I literally just purchased mine a week ago and I am ready to do some upgrade including getting a lower gear ratio

It's always been my understanding that if you're past vertical that reverses don't count.
I guess that would have been a tough call on that one. Watching the video, if I was a judge I would have called me on it.
how do you adjust the drive brake on this esc?
I love the cat
how do you preprogram the rear steer on a radio like you said you've always done
I run Futaba radios and it's just a matter of setting the values for the channel you're controlling. It's different between different radio brands.
Ok. Witch futuba does it work on so I can see if it compares to anything I got? Thank you.
@@benfred8 I run the 4PM, 4PX, 7PX. All of them have the same programming ability. The 3PM may have the ability as well but I don’t own it.
Why can't axial make a complete rig? Pick dig or 2 speed. Pick 4ws or dig. Pick this or that. Why can't we have it all in one? At least they didn't put a jeep body on it...
Likely just because of cost. Everything added costs more, and the price of new trucks is already creeping up.
Still think some chiefs stickers would look good on that vehicle… wait a second, gates would too! Lmao!
This looks like the cheaper option to get a 4WS capra, even if you ditch the electronics.
So you just showed up and just ran a comp?
Yup, it was a large get together, maybe 200 people, but I didn’t know there would be a comp course going.
Maybe it’s a misprint but the link shows $549🤷♂️
That is the retail price of the 4ws version. It is $50 more than the normal Capra RTR.
A good old fashion review what has happened to you lol no it was good 👍🏻 👍🏻👍🏻
So does anyone actually own one?
Those are Rock Bouncers why are the Gates so Tight? Do You Watch the Real Rock Bouncers? What’s with the crawling???
The Capra was designed as a rock crawling buggy, made for slow crawling. The Ryft was designed as a rock bouncer.
