Really informative, and great to see the differences between a full-blown custom build and off the shelf. Pretty capable, and I like the way they set it up. Thanks for sharing, Ding Dong! 😉
I clicked the video to see what 4WS was about. my goodness i have a ton of room for improvement with my driving. you did a really good job showing both vehicles. and now i have room to love about RC crawling
I remember I used to get mad when I’d break something but you learn that it’s just part of using your RC for the intended purpose. Super cool Video & your driving skills are killer. Mine have been improving & it just takes time out with your crawlers to learn first hand what they will do. I’d love to see you get a mini crawler & give that a go. It’s frustrating after using your 1:10 scale crawlers but any little thing becomes a obstacle. Gunna check out your gear now. Happy Holidays!
It depends what I break and how. That tumble was big and I expected something to break. If I’m doing something mellow and I hear a snap I’m not as calm about it haha
Super informative, I enjoyed seeing them go line for line. The rtr did really well, I was surprised. I'm glad I just picked one up, can't wait to run it. Thanks for the video 📹
I can't wait to set mine up for 4ws. Mine will be set up very similarly, with the dig and rear steer in the same places on my controller. The "extra" 3 way switch is being used for a winch that i installed up front :D i love my capra!
Man the commentary is gold on these videos.... been a trail guy now getting into rock crawling. Rear steer and dig looks hella dope.... can use that on trail truck lol. Have a good one man and keep vids coming.
@@westdesertwheeler don't suppose you can suggest a cheaper end controller that can do similar to yours whilst getting the dig? i don't wanna be constantly bouncing my dumborc receiver to a fro too much, that and its 6 channel so i think its overkill, also i wanna run at beaches like tenby with plenty of rocks to crawl, im gonna be bleedin skint after getting either a capra 4ws or a cr01... Nice comparison. Nearly finished a 4ws moa. Was debating independent control but didn't have a pot on my radio. Didn't occur to me I could use buttons. I can set Divisions on mine so can go 10% per click. Sweet.
I felt that fall all the way up here in Utah County! 😖 this helped a lot! I just picked up the 4 wheels steer this evening to go with my other Capra. I think I need one of those radios. The smoothness it much better than the notchy 2 position.
@@westdesertwheeler my flysky arrives today. I ordered it through your link. Can’t wait to get down there this weekend. That's a very nice video! You obviously have a lot of experience with the technical driving! There's an area where I live called elk Rock off the Willamette River just south of Portland Oregon. It's an excellent place to rock crawl it's all Solid Rock and the cool thing is if you lose it you only fall about 5 feet at the most. It's very popular for rock crawling.
Thanks Logan. Just converted my Capra to 13.5" wheelbase and 4 wheel steer. This is really informative and entertaining! I also have some 2.2 trenchers coming for it. I've got my 4 wheel steer set up pretty much like yours, so I guess that part is good!
@Sweat Bigcon - I had a bomber sitting around. I put those links on the rear and I had turnbuckle links in the front so I could extend those. The rear is stretched more than the front, but that's OK with me as it puts weight further forward
Enjoying your videos. Question: I'm pretty new at modding RCs and was wondering if I need to swap out any parts on the RTR Capra 4WS to use the same controller you have? I like the function of the unlimited rear steer instead of the factory stepped controller.

So I’m definitely thinking of getting a Capra. Obviously to start out with a rear steer setup the rtr would be the cheaper option. I’m assuming by changing the radio out the rear steer would have better controls?
Great comparrison! So the RTR has dig in it, but does it come with a servo installed and just no avalable channel, or is an instant radio upgrade and servo purchase needed to get dig and 4WS?
greetings so, small question im currently deciding between the rtr capra 4ws and the Tamiya rock socker (also 4ws out of the box, its just assembly required) which for me will cost roughly the same, the rock sockers main known issues is that 1 Tamiya is known for buggies and track cars (and a few rally cars that are amazing) and not rock crawlers, so they don't have a dedicated crawler compound tyre, as a result they are too hard (even the softer aftermarket ones are too hard) 2 is that it shocks are known to leak if your unlucky or simply careless and 3 the cr01 is very top heavy, but ironically the class of crawler its based on is very top heavy to begin with now the capra from what i can see is oddly close in performance to the cr01 rock socker albeit with significantly better tyres (axial does specialise in trail trucks, crawlers and bouncers after all) and much lower centre of gravity (trail buggies are known for really low centre of gravity, hell some are practically low riders) and as a result is nowhere near as top heavy (though to be fair, the cr01 is an oldschool built like a freaking tank chassis with metal chassis rails that look ripped from a truck built to tow tanks) but from what i have seen, with some modifications the articulation of the cr01 can make the capra look bad considering what type of crawler its based on (the cr01 uses semi cantilever suspension with the shocks on cantilevers and barrel springs on the axal) so i guess the question is, if i got a capra, what modifications would you advise? and what is your opinion of the Tamiya cr01 rock socker? both are the only crawlers i know that have 4ws out of the box, and im kinda fed up with pedal to the metal rock bouncers and the "can't make up my mind" rock racers, i thank you for any advice you could impart also, i envy you, you got clean redsand desert...all i got is an hour drive to old ruins not too far from the Rhayader dams with old slate chippings gravel with hunks of slate here and there, its okay for crawling, but only just, at least you have something to run desert trucks, desert buggies and 2wd buggies like the tomahawk
Hey Logan. Have you used the FlySky Crawling mode with the built-in rear steer options? I don't have a rear steer rig to try with the GT5 crawler settings built into them.
I have a 4ws Wraith controlled by a GT5. The built in options are fun, but the utility of it is low. If you have 4ws, you want them controlled independently like he has it.
Question if using the Flysky controller for dig on the new Capra you have to replace the receiver but it is a combination esc & receiver so as I understand your kind of screwed because you’ll have to replace the esc as well. Is this true?
“Dialed” is how I’d describe your rig. Your driving skills are BOSS!! I hope you have a controller setup vid in your library. SUB’d, Ty for the very informative video. Peace out..:)
