Thanks for the efford dude.
Damn I’m lucky with the prices I payed for my AES games back in the day.
I just got an AES and will try to get some games now when I'm Japan. I'm so hoping to find something. Only got 2 games so far.
Good hunts out in Akiba!
EDIT: I noticed the footage was much more stable in this video than others! Not sure what you're doing, but keep it up!
One of your best video ever! I waited for a long time that you finally decided to make a video just for my favourite system ! Thank you my friend! :o)
2:37 For those wondering what it actually says. ō and ū are kind of a long o and u sound
状態 (jōtai) Status
ディスク (Disuku) Disc
説明書 (setsumei-sho) Instructions; manual
帯 (obi) band, which is the paper thing that wraps around the end of the case
有 (yū) possesses; has
無 (mu) nothing
Under 備考 (bikō) (notes) it says 美品 (bihin) Like new.
Man, prices in Japan are even worse than eBay now.
Soldier-2Point0 I think it has more to do with nerd culture being embraced more these days, it’s infinitely more mainstream than it was in the past. Japan is a Nerd paradise and tourism has gone though the roof the last ten years.
I mean where I live those prices are cheaper then Ebay
SufamiDan keep in mind Akiba is typically quite overpriced.
That's because a lot of the stuff that seems fairly priced on eBay is fakes these days, be careful when you bid.
@@samuraispiritsx I was out looking at Super Potato in Nagoya today (which has less tourists) and prices was still up there unfortunately. However, they have ALOT of stuff so its still worth going for things.
as someone who bought his first Neo Geo AES plus games in 2002 in Akihabara and has been collecting for 18 years now:
Akihabara and Co are a shadow of their former selfs - and nowhere this get's more obvious then with AES prices...
I own 62 AES games at the moment - apart from some heavy hitters like Ninja Masters, the Magical Drops or Fuun Super Tag Battle I got all my stuff from outside of Japan.
the last AES game I bought in Japan was in 2016 Double Dragon - because I found a very mint and complete copy of it -which still cost me like 42.000 Yen!
i like that you can touch the game and console packaging, even the pricier one. Here in my country everything locked in glass case, because genuine games are expensive and piracy is rampant.
Love your content dude! I'm honestly running out of fresh videos though 🫨😅 much respect to you homie
Got plenty more on the way.
Love all the uploads, killing it!
Awesome video man it's cool you let us see what it's like game hunting out there.
Solid vid!!! Your end song is always so good!! Massive want
Now you saved me some time whenever I'm going to Tokyo from Nagoya :D
Can you do a video where you find the most expensive & rarest games in stores?
I was in Japan 17 years ago and I bought a Sonic Wings 3 for 16000 yens and a Samurai Spirits 2 for 800 yens, both AES versions.
The prices nowadays are absolutely insane.
funny - I too bought my first AES stuff back in 2002.
At least samurai shodown 2 is still cheapish. I paid $40 with shipping. But it had a mildly stained manual and the inside was kind of rough. But I don't mind. Unless I'm showing these games off the minor cosmetic stuff isn't too important. 🙂
Have you ever looked for or seen Sega CD games? I know it wasn’t popular but I personally love it.
I keep spotting stuff that I'll never see in a game store in the US in a million years. I spotted an Emerson Arcadia 2001 console on the shelf. I'm pretty sure I saw a unit in one of your previous videos too. Those are next to impossible to find around here. I went to a retro game convention years ago where a friend gave me his boxed console, and from that point out to the lobby I had three people stop me and ask where the hell I found that at. Many more people looked at it in astonishment as I walked past. I've since only found two loose cartridges for the console in game stores in the past 8 years. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, they have them collecting dust. Amazing.
Great video. I bought my Neo Geo from the Camp. Not too cheap, but impeccable condition. Prices have gone way up since I bought mine.
That Framemeister at Beep 😯
I could feel the squeeze of getting through those narrow aisles.
It’s interesting seeing NG Dev games over there, although they sell for silly money. Pity there were no AES Metal Slug 1’s, I would have love to have seen the price on those.
The Neo Geo AES was originally $600. So the boxed Neo Geo for $550 is about what you can expect to pay.
22:30 Cool. That's SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos.
15:14 contained sealed Mattel Intellivision console :-) Neo Geo pocket Color consoles were interesting ones!
I do love me some Neo Geo goodness. Glad I bought my copies back in the late '90's though :P - even MVS carts are starting to get up there price-wise.
Hi jim another great vid. How much would say the avg is for a nice condition sega genesis and dream cast? Cheers
Hey Jim, going to Tokyo for 3 weeks end of the month for the first time. Anything videogame related happening or that you would recommand one MUST go to. I have 2-3 days planned just for Akhiabara, Arcades and Retrogame hunting. Staying close to Shinbuya station.
I bought an AES back in the day in australia and the standard store in the city sold games for $250 to $300AU and for comparison when Mortal Kombat came out on the SNES it was $129... now days games are much cheaper here $69 for day one PS4/Xb etc.. I really appreciate your videos would love to live there
"these Neo Geo collectors - they're a special breed" xD
gonna use that as my new signature lol
Hey! You found the SNK vs Capcom MVS game I asked for! It was the boxed MVS game on the bottom shelf with the blue and white label. I was hoping you’d check the price. You can see it starting @ 8:20
I paused the video and saw the price: 36,800! It’s about $360USD. Boy, the prices there are a bit expensive.
36,800 yen
Metal Slug 3 is my favorite Metal Slug game
10:55 Last Blade (21$), Art of fighting 3 (12$) with Spin Card on Neo Geo CD is cheap. It’s a good price 👍
Do you think in a future episode you can tour Kotobukiya? I really want to see all the figures, Megami Device, Frame Arms Girls, and models they have in there.
I had a small aes collection at one point can't imagine doing so again now that I have a family and house etc. but an mvs setup of some sort perhaps
Aw, I was actually on the lookout for a few MVS games the day I was in Akihabara. There is such a load of games in those tight stores that I forgot to look for them when visiting Beep and Surugaya. Still, I have no regrets spending most of my time browsing Trader for Nintendo stuff instead.
8:00 spots the CPS2 carts, MVS and atomiswave.
Thanks for the video. If you ever do decide to go the emulation route, I recommend the Nvidia Shield.
Bloody hell. Nearly $6500 for Metal Slug X on AES...
About 9 years ago I found a copy for sell for about $800. AES games are like the stocks market, except it consistenly goes up 😂
It was actually $698
@@royhoughton443 No, its 698000 yen
6:03 PS2 Garou: Mark of the Wolves + Fighting Stick. Want! As cool as it would be to own an actual Neo Geo, $900 for the AVS+cart to play The Super Spy is juuuuust a bit much. $10 for the PS2 SNK Vol.1 disc is one of my best buys ever. Meanwhile, I love this format of going to several stores in Akiba to look for one type of game is cool. Hope to see more.
I have that PS2 Garou MotW, minus the stick, ran me about 50 bucks (I have KoF 94 Rebout as well, no stick, but has the Gamest Mook booklet that came with it), the Last Blade collection also ran me 50 bucks. Got them less than a year apart (Garou and Last Blade 1 and 2, got 94 Rebout earlier this year along with SVC Chaos PS2) , and I don't regret getting them without their extras. It just took me long enough to find them from US sellers that weren't trying to price gouge them on Ebay.
Why has everyone not stopped everything to talk about Mudman doing ballet? I mean, I love Neo Geo... I have an AES, MVS cabinet, and NGPC on top of loads of ports for other consoles, but gawking at amazing games can eat it compared to Mudman dancing.
Nice video once again. You were wrong on a few prices though. Metal Slug 3 ..400 usd I wish..it was 398000 yen. Metal Slug X was 698000 yen.
Great video 👍 always amazed at the price of Neo Geo stuff - is it due to the rarity or just the original cost? 🤔 I thought Mandrake had a fairly big Neo Geo selection don’t they? I remember the prices being way up there though 😄
Sir make a neo geo commercial history video like the one from sega keep up the good work love ur channel
Fun fact: Here in the U.S. back in the 1990s decade, The Neo Geo Gold system was priced closed to $2,000.00!!!
Remember, this was back in the day almost 30 years ago. And the game carts I used to call "The Brick", they cost between
$200 and $400.00!!!
Introductory price was 650, maybe it would be 2000 now, the silver package was 399
haha funny story a few months ago we bought almost all the neogeo cd games in that basement shop so that might explain the shortage!
Saw some neo geo games under 100 dollars in this video. Must buy. Also certain 1000 dollar games going for 500 to 700. Not bad.
Are there ngpc games at these stores? I would like to see what collecting for the handheld is like there
After reading that SNK plans on making a Neo Geo 2 and 3, I thought “Wouldn’t it be awesome if they brought back the AES, cutting the scalpers down to size?” Lol I’m probably more likely to win half a million in the local lottery, but I can dream can’t I?
I hear Maximum carnage in the background at 15:20
how i wish i can stay in japan..i be everyday walking around not buying anything also i feel nice....
5:38 That Hildibrand Theme though
Japan looks like retro game country, like they stopped in the 90s.
I'm glad I have a lot of these SNK fighters and Metal Slugs on various other consoles, and they didn't cost nearly what those AES and MVS games run for (your Garou MotW's, your Last Blades, your Fatal Fury's, your Sam Sho's, your KoF's, your Art of Fighting's, your World Heroes series, and SVC Chaos as well, most of them the Japanese versions). Yeah, they aren't the arcade originals, or the ones that play on SNK consoles, but they will always work fine for me. I collect SNK fighters for Gameboy, SNES/SFC, Genesis, PS1, Saturn, and PS2, and I have just about all I need (there's those SNK games on PC Engine CD too, but I'd be playing the CD's via emulator as I don't own a Turbo Duo). Pretty much World Heroes 2 Jet and Real Bout Garou Densetsu forGameboy, and Art of Fighting 2 SFC to go, unless I feel like buying the standalone versions of Sam Spirits 5 and 6 (I have the Anthology already for that on PS2), the Wii SS Anthology, and the PCE CD titles.
You had me at neo geo
That metal slug 3 has to be a conversion at that price
398000 Yens on the video, that's about 4000$, not 400, guess he read it wrong
Hey man, going back to Japan in a month, was hoping to snag a Neo-Geo but I know to avoid Akihabara like the plague... I never see any Neo Geo stuff at Hard-off or Book-off locations, do you think maybe DenDen town in Osaka will be a better bet?
the regular retro shops there have AES stuff and MVS - don't expect any surprises though...
they are all specialized on retro and know their prices...
I once saw a whole set of Neo Geo games at Book Off in Kyoto Sanjou - most likely someone had sold off his collection.
was tempted buying some stuff - but they too knew the prices and a lot were missing the manuals...
Could also check out Mandarake for video games too. It's around Super Potato in Akihabara.
whats the music from at 12:42 is it from a game?..sounds familier but its bugging me where I heard it from before
Search for "Fatal fury bump 2"
How late do these places stay open? Or is it just getting dark that early already
Loving the vid btw
At 8:54 is a Metal Slug 2 Neo Geo CD Game and you don´t see it :OI
What is the intro song mann??? Would love to get some track listings for these vids! Shazam doesnt have a clue haha. Love your videos bro
If you mean at 0:00, that's from Ninja Gaiden 1. 0:07 is Ibuki's theme from SF3 3rd Strike.
sweet mvs stuff isnt impossible to fine
Did super potato have any mvs carts or just avs?
On 10:55 and 11:10 what is the titled of those two Neo Geo CDS?
neo geo pocket really had the best fighting games on a handheld. i had samurai shodown 2 and capcom sv snk
Zontar82 good for you
Good lord I knew Neo Geo was pricey but DAMN. I do want to collect for the pocket though...shame you didn't find much for that system...
Even the Neo geo pocket color games, are starting to soar through the roof in terms of price.
Name of the song at the end of ur videos what's it called it's cool ass song
I know the focus of the vid was mvs carts, but I wish you'd taken a closer look at those CPS2 boards -.-
What's the song on the end video? 25:43
Do any of the Trader stores stock Neo Geo stuff? Wouldn't mind seeing what their prices are like.
I think Trader honten in Akihabara have some.... but last time it was rather meak...
Kid, whats the first track that plays ?
Metal Slug 3 is actually 398000 Yens, 4000$, not 400$ ;) / Metal Slug X is also 7000, not 700 (that would be a dream )
12:39 Blazing Star = 5000 euros
I thought there would be a lot more MVS carts in these shops
What is that song playing at 01:17 ?
Ahh retrogamecamp. their website is in English too. now im not a neo geo fan, although ive played a few games and did own one back in the 90`s with 6 games ( nam 75, andro dunos , magician lord, last resort, neo turf masters and viewpoint ) had it for around a year but games where just silly to get hold of and sold it for around £300 ( i blamed the impending playstation release for me getting rid ). i do however have a neo geo x gold its ok i suppose not as bad as people make out..i believe prices are rising on these.
3:00 is where I bought my NeoGeo mini and Famicom console >-
Why is Fatal Fury 3 so common? Even on eBay whenever I find random NGCD games for auction, it's like half Garou Densetsu 3.
can u do a hard-off video for neo geo games? the prices here are insane!
How much are Neo geo CD consoles over there. EBay is a little high. Especially sites like hit japan where they sell for $400-500. Edit: $150 is good
12:42 Pulstar = 1900 euros
You missed a zero for those metal slug games at super potatoe :D
Holy crap, that copy of Garou costs more than what you can get some used cars for in Japan, lol.
u missed
that rare, costly ragnagard cd xD
I would so pay $150 for a model 2.Neo Geo CD,all day baby!!!
In my experience, also from my last visit back in March, the best Neo Geo AES selection and prices could be found at Mandarake and Friends. Retro Game Camp and Super Potato are useless, no real reason to visit them for anything. Any reason why you didn’t visit these shops?
Thinks man u r the best
Terry’s in Smash, sorry it’s just that you’re an SNK fan and I thought that his inclusion is awesome!!!
99% of Smash Brothers players havent got a Clue who Terry Bogard is LOL
leomatri I know but Jim loves SNK which is why I’m telling him that he’s in Smash!
@@leomatri Well really the west has (well except for Spanish and Latin countries) no idea who he is. The east at least knows him.
leomatri, then there's the rest of us who never played a Smash game, and couldn't care less to play one, but know exactly who Terry is like he's an old friend.
@@Bloodreign1 Smash is kind of boring anyway, great gateway to get into fighting games, but in terms of fighters in general, there are way better options!!!
Wicked City.......😸
*Sees Prices of some of those Neo Geo games*
*Dies of heart attack*
Waaaait wait wait wait... Did you just skip over the CPS2 stuff!? I know it's a NeoGeo video and all, but still XD
Nice little visit but I was expecting to see Trader and Mandarake as well...
Are there supposed to be retrogames in Mandarake? I was there yesterday but didnt find any retro stuff.
@@RetroMoments Mandarake has a lot of retro games available. mostly on 2nd floor if they have a retro corner like in Osaka or Nakano Broadway.
@@retrogames_jp1404 Yea, good to know :) Because the one here in Nagoya have nothing actually.
@@RetroMoments Nagoya? Actually surprising since Nagoya was praised as the cheaper alternative to Osaka and Akiba. well at least in 2017....
@@retrogames_jp1404 Really? Something must have happened then. The only games I could find was current gen and some handhelds like DS & 3DS.
I am guessing you get used to all those maids etc... but damn it is surreal.
How did you get this video done inside ?
I speak Japanese and they never let me make a movie ...
What did you say ??
You don't say anything. Videogame stores in Japan don't let you film inside their stores (except maybe Super Potato). So you must do it discreetly.
$500 is a lot to ask for a complete boxed Neo•Geo AES? I paid $550 for mine.... In 1990 ($1052 when factoring in inflation!)
23:45 WWW
Hey jim
How can i get in contact with you?
....And to think once i finished my MVS collection i would move to AES...$$$😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭...YEA RIGHT
It's a shame that so many of these Neo games sit under those lights for years and end up with severe sun fading. Mostly on the spines, but sometimes on the front when they are displayed outward.
LOVE NEO GEO but price so ridiculous today ... sometimes cheaper in US or EUROPE !
Great way to spend my afternoon watching Jim going on the prowl for Neo-Geo game searching. Saw this earlier and had to go get a bucket of chicken at KFC and some RC Cola to go along with it bro. I would love to purchase Breakers at Super Potato. But 598,000 Yen....Yikes!! But of coarse, I always enjoy these videos from you Jim. Solid gold material for sure. 8^)
I posted this up on the Neo-Geo thread on Atariage.com for you.
It's on post #19,988 for you to view. Thank you as always Jim Keep up the great work my man.....
Also, I just watched Noel ComiX and he mention you for helping him on acquiring a game for him and for you being reimbursed on your dedication to do so. Well done Jim. Noel is an Atariage member and a contributor to the Neo-Geo thread as well. Glad you know and helped him awesome sir. 8^)
Anthony..
I need to correct you on your grammar. At 6:53 you say "they dont got none". That is a double negation which means that they do have games. If you want to say that they dont have any games you should say "they dont got any".
Oh boy. while I think Neo Geo is super cool, I also realize its waaaay too expensive to get into.
The equivalent for common consoles is the Sega Saturn, games for that are going through the roof. Glad I have 53 games for the console, many bought years ago, and still cherry picking the good stuff that is still cheap enough to afford.
