Pleased to meet you kind sir. Thank you for taking time to share your video of you scouting around Japan on doing some fine Neo-Geo hunting. I've been playing Neo-Geo for 32 years. The first game that I ever played for it was Magician Lord on a new MVS unit at a local Dary Queen in Paramus, NJ. Since then, I've been a buff since.
I posted this excellent video up on The Neo-Geo thread on the forums over on the AtariAge site for others to take notice and be amazed by this just as much as I am. This will be a real treat to enjoy on Saturday night for sure. 8^)

Wow has neo geo really been out that long😆 Sounds like you are a huge neogeo fan. I really appreciate you sharing this video it really helps out. Sorry my knowledge is very little on the matter. Thank you very much for this video. This is my favorite video of yours. I love Neo Geo & have a AES console & 3 consolized MVS consoles & a MVS Arcade. Anything Neo Geo related I love. Some of the AES games get insanely expensive, that’s why I love the MVS versions of the games. Same exact game as the AES version, but for the mvs arcade machine, at a fraction of the cost.

@@ScruffyLookinRGB One of my favorites is Pulstar. My favorite are fighting games, but Pulstar is one of my favorite shooters. If bought on the AES it would cost $4K or more for a CIB. But you can get it for MVS sometimes for $150-$200. I’ve seen it go for $300 or $400 for MVS, but if you look around enough it can be bought for $150. Another great example on price differences of AES VS MVS.

Was gonna look for some lower level AES titles but even those games are treated like solid gold now....
That is great you got while the gettin was good. I wish I could go back and buy that junk console i found for less than 100 bucks.

The cheaper ones seem to be the same, which is a good thing because Art Of Fighting 2 and Samurai Showdown are still excellent games for the system :)

they used to be great for AES back in the day however... I remember buying my AoF3 there for a mere 7000 yen xD

Yes, that's right bro. Been playing Neo-Geo since I was 7 years old in 1990. To me, the Neo-Geo AES home console is the crowning achievement in my collection. Sadly, as a boy just relying on a weekly allowance from home wasn't going to be enough for me to purchase an AES unit and maintain a sizable library of games. Also, growing up in a middle-class family in which the income was on a strict budget wasn't going to be possible. So the MVS unit in arcades inserting quarters/tokens was my only option.

i hope to eventually to find a good deal on one that i can refurbish. Id probably have to get a flash cart and what ever games are reasonably priced. Im sure your all about the og hardware but in case you do have a flash cart what are your thoughts on it?
Yeah bro. they really offer plenty in the community. Hahaha. I wish I was one of the cool kids. But you see in just about very comment section for Neo-Geo and SNK related material on RUclips for sure.
Interestingly, I live in New York City. In the Tri-State area, the Neo-Geo was quite available to find . It was mainly in small family orientated game stores and at Toys R Us branches in affluent neighborhoods behind glass cases where I visited growing up. To many, it was a mystical console. But where I live, it was seen around like a Nintendo and Sega console would be.

Have metal slug 2,3,4,5 , shocktroopers 2nd squad , magical drop 3 , us rage of the dragons , kraut buster etc . Love the aes

I have that family king joystick, there is a first and second player one also. The super twin file is like a memory device for a certain game, im still trying to figure out exactly what its for.

@@ScruffyLookinRGB Well, i would like to think that's expensive pretty much all around the world. Even for a place like Japan, where i thought it would be cheaper. But, yes, even in Canada $500cad + is expensive. But, i guess it is to be expected. You're talking about getting a new xbox system for that kinda price.
AES has been a pricey hobby for years now, it's just getting worse with time. Magical Drop 2 is fantastic, but not at that price when you can get the Saturn version for far, far cheaper, the SFC version is great too, but coming up in price.
Magical Drop is crazy expensive!! Couldn't believe my eyes. Was there ever a time when NEO GEO games were cheap?

As pricey as the Neo-Geo was, it was the genuine article. So many overpriced systems that came and left. Maybe a handful of good games, couldn't deliver on all its commercial hype. The Neo-Geo was supported for quite a long time, with 2d games that still look really good.
It is one im looking forward to owning for sure i need to grab one soon before they are un attainable 💸😲
