Thanks for watching, everyone! I'll have the 2022 holiday hunt coming a little later. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. 2022 had a lot of ups and downs, but I'm happy with how my RUclips channel has progressed, and I'm thankful for all the good fortune that has come my way.
Thanks for all the good content you provide! It’s much appreciated!
I'm coming in oct23 can't wait to hit trader , super potatoe, for super famicom games and if I'm lucky a laserdisc player if u see any before Oct on your hunts give us a heads up on price and tell me how to tell if they are working 👍maybe a video to add to your channel 😁and maybe catch u when I vist 👍
Remember the good ol days before the pandemic? Pepperidge farm remembers 😊😊😊
"Jump, Jump!"
"Slide, Slide!"
Love hearing Frost Man's track but my brain can't help but hear those sound effects as well.
Like, it completely overwrites the immersion of the video but at the same time... its nostalgic and I kinda love it lol
It always makes me smile when the women passing out flyers for maid cafes see you have a camera and quickly try to hide their faces. You walk down a busy street and 10 women in frilly outfits look away or put the flyers in front of their faces.
It kills me how many rare consoles and games are casually sitting on shelves in those stores. I only know of a single store in the Dallas area that has a Vectrex for sale, and they want $700 for it. You almost never find any Dreamcast games on shelves here unless they're the dirt common dregs, like NFL 2K. I wish I made the kind of money that I could afford a trip/spending spree to Akihabara.
I hadn't really been feeling in the holiday spirit until the last hour; thanks for this holiday trip back in time, Jim!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
There’s a Carl’s JR in the mall in Odaiba! Really enjoying the videos man, I’m just starting my Japanese retro game collection and your videos are fun to watch. Keep it up!
Nice video. I always remember how mesmerizing Akihabara was the first time I visited there in 1999.
and how it overwhelmes most visitors who are not mentally prepared for that other-wordly experience xD
for me it's back to Japan next April after a hiatus of 5 years.
Love the Christmas Nights BGM!!! Awesome vid Jim!
Came here because of the NEO GEO thumbnail, your the best at doing these videos man. thank you :)
Seeing Akiba in 2018 (the year I was there) really make me feel nostalgic...Hope it recover to his former glory!
What is the state of the shops & entertainment there now?
With the intro to clock onto your video with a Neo-Geo AES sure got me hooked Jim. Awesome. 8^)
Anthony..
I love hearing video game music from those video games stores. So cool.
14:53 song is very familiar. It was a hit song that was played on the radio 15 years ago and sounded like Indian music. The chorus part started with oooohh ahhhhh. It's weird that it played in Japan
I watched each of these in three different days 🙂Great relaxing songs with Tokyo by Night..
Nice pickups great vid , so lucky u can just go out and pickup all this retro goodness :)
Yes, I am indeed lucky
Thanks Jim. Enjoy your Christmas and new year.
Love your tour vids they are Soo Refreshing to watch love Famacon Dying to get my Hands on 1👍🍾🙏 Thanks for the Nice Tour seems Beautiful out there!!!
Cool video, thank you for sharing
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Lets give this guy a hand for working while going to school and still finding the time to entertain us 👏🏻👏🏻🫡
It was my pleasure. Thanks for watching!
@@MadPanicGaming thanks Jim!
Merry Christmas. Watching your videos always really makes me want to visit Japan again.
A Neo Geo AES looks very good in your hands, Jim! I'm just saying :D
@Falcom Scott Doing well mate, just really busy. How about you? Thanks. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas from Sweden!
I've found another Carl's Junior in Diver City as well, so there are probably more :) .Happy holidays!
Yeah, I've heard of a couple of others popping up. I filmed that segment in 2018, and I think that was the only one at the time.
A festive video for a festive time. Happy holidays and merry Christmas Jim.
Happy Holidays!
I was there November 16-21, Akihabara was alota fun, I visited Hey Hirose, and have to say THAT is my Favorite Arcade spot! Super Potatoe was nice, didn't realize it was so....cramped and small lol, and Yes I ate at Carls Burgers too!!!
Nice video, I love Shienryu - it's probably the perfect example of the type of shoot 'em up I like best.
Awesome Christmas game hunting video Jim thanks for showing us this Happy holidays 🆒❄️🎄🎅🤶🎅🦌
My pleasure. Happy holidays!
Have you noticed any difference in prices since lockdown in Japan?
47:45 Kracko plushie sighted!!⛈
Merry Christmas Jim!
Merry Christmas!
Happy holidays!
С Новым Годом и Рождеством! 🎉🎉
Always look at all the copies. There was an Adventure Island for 680 instead of 880 Yen.
Happy Holidays Jim
Thanks! Happy holidays!
Thanks from Aoba computer club. Event the afterday tomorrow. 青葉コンピュータークラブ
What is the music that's playing at about 15:30 from?
Did you see any Super Famicoms for sale??
Hey Jim, I have an off topic question. Do you own Super Swiv for Super Famicom in box? I recently purchased a copy and i am suspicious of the box. My question, does the box for super swiv feel somewhat smoother than other super famicom boxes? Cheers.
I don't know, never held a Super Swiv box, but I have picked up some recent repros and indie games on the SuFami and they have a smooth feel to them.
I can assure you that's not the only Carl's Jr in Japan but I'm assuming you were joking lmao
When I filmed that in 2018, pretty sure that was the first Carl's Jr location in Japan, or at least in Tokyo
@@MadPanicGaming yeah, noticed right after commenting that this was a mashup of different years, my bad lol
Do you have a spotify playlist? That would be dope
I do not unfortunately. Maybe I should make one.
Name of the track plz, played at 5:30 ?
It's a remix of the Nightmare on Elm Street NES game's overworld theme.
wanted to ask you about a series of games goemon super famicom. how much yen do the goemon games cost on average in the retro shops?
Is there an option on your pateron where we can request consoles?
Yeah, you can request consoles as part of your Patreon rewards. Might take a little longer to ship depending on what tier you're in though. If you're a $60 patron for example, and want a console that costs more than that, you can let your money roll over month to month until it's paid for.
What's the source of the sonic music around 11.40 ?
Winter winter time
Hey Jim what song is that playing at 47:47? Thanks!! Love the videos!!
It's the theme for Frost Man's stage in Mega Man 8
Let’s Drink sum Coco😂😂😂😂😂❤👊🫡
My dream is to own a Neo Geo cab.
For me, game hunting in Japan is equally very good and very bad. Very good because you can find a lot of good stuff with reasonable prices, but very bad because I have no business with a Chrono Trigger totally in Japanese, for example.
I always hunt games with a list on the phone, of the Japanese games with English language support. For the ps3 and Xbox 360, the list is long, for many NES/Famicom and Snes/SFamicom, I don't have much problem, since many 8bit/16bit games almost have no plot or cutscenes, but RPG's are a real problem. I have to buy Catherine on the Ps3 in English, but I really wanted the X360 version, but the Japanese version in x360 it's Japanese Language only, and the American version it's not Region Free, so it won't work on my Japanese X360 (and I don't want to hack the console, and risky to loose my gamertag AGAIN).
Some consoles like the Japanese Wii, Wii U, Gamecube don't have a language option for menus of the console, luckilly, I managed to hack them and transform the menus in English (at the cost of risking turning them into a brick), but it wasn't an easy task.
One dissapointing thing, different from the USA, there's no garage sales in Japan, and the retroshop owners, know very well what is rare and what it's not, so it's almost impossible to find a rare game/console and pay little for it. I'm tired of seeing garage sales stories from americans, where people found amazing stuff for a good price.
Another letdown for me, in my country, I grew up with the North American version of consoles and cartridges. Let's say I have 0 nostalgia factor for a Super Famicom, which I can find very cheap here in Japan. While the Super Famicom can be found in any Hard Off store for $500 yen, I had to import my Snes from a guy in London for $15.000 yen (He was in Europe, but had the American Snes on sale, for Europeans, the Snes looks the same as the Super Famicom, so It fits very well their nostalgia factor). A Famicom is like $1.000 yen here, I paid $25.000 yen for my NES, imported from the USA. Same for Snes and Nes cartridges, I prefer the blocky, grey format than the Famicom colorful tiny cartridges and SFamicom round and brighter grey cartridges.
I even learnt how to program EPROMS and make Snes repros, so I buy the Japanese version of the game, and switch the eprom of the cartridge, with the america version burnt in it, so the cartridge is almost the original thing, but in English. I keep the original rom chip inside the case anyways, so I can switch back to the original format if one day, I have a change of heart (and better understanding of Japanese language).
Long story short, in Japan, I have a very good incoming, but buying games feels a little restrictive due to language barrier. It's still fun and all, but I really envy when I watch channels like Metal Jesus doing game hunting in American stores, all that Snes and NES cartridges at very good prices, everything in english, that's the dream!
WHAT IS THE SONG AT 30:15!!!!
Maid girls hanging outside of game stores... ahh marketing to the demographic.
Where you learn there language? You went to school for that?¿ Jim? What made you Move over there just asking¿ curious? To know? Keep up your Great videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍
good to see people finally taking their masks off there.
It was shot pre pandemic.
