You’re still in the Navy but pursuing your own goals in the civilian world. A whole lot more time than active duty. Not many know about the reserves so I figured I mention it to you💪🏽.
People need to understand that the military can be both a career or an experience in one's life. No explanation is ever needed when deciding to not RE-ENLIST in the military. Austen, you are NOT "leaving" or "getting out" the US Navy, you are simply choosing to not do another contract. Words matter when folks talk about the military publicly and using phrases like "getting out" isn't really accurate. You have FULFILLED your obligation and your service is ending. You didn't "get out" or chose to "leave", you simply are not doing another contract. I know, "What's the big deal?", right? Well, saying those words can be taken as a negative when it really isn't in many cases, which led to you trying to explain your decision (which you don't have to do). Took me a long time to realize that saying "getting out" of the military can represent a bad experience. It may seem petty, but it really isn't when you step back and think about it. I think many of us vets that have served honorably should work to use phrases like "choosing to not re-up/re-enlist.", "not doing a new contract/commitment.", or "choosing a new career path.", when speaking about the end of our service publicly. When an individual fulfills their contract, they are NOT getting out the military or leaving it, they are simply choosing their next course of action in life. Good luck to you, sir.

If you want a family and have a job to go to it's a good decision, at least from the perspective of this one time military kid. My Dad was in the military until I hit 10 years so I didn't have a real "home" until that time. No long term friends, not much time around the relatives. I wish I had been raised in one area, perhaps near some cousins and been able to have a lifelong friend. You have all the right physical attributes to go far in media, couple that with skill, motivation and drive you should go far.
I am with you on that this is my last contract, freedom to raise my kids is a huge motivator to me!

When I got out after 4 years of active duty service. My Command Sergeant Major understands that we who serviced even for just one terms, did more than any American who never served. So thank you for your service.
It’s not about mass its about living a long healthy life. Eat food as your medicine or you will be eating medicine as your food.
Yeah i bet! Freedom is very important. A lot of people hate that there isn't much freedom. Good luck with your dreams
