Nobody in the comments (or very few) realize how tough that would be. I did more pushups and sit ups than him on my PT tests but I didn't swim sidestroke for 13 minutes either. The Marine main problem was that he most likely didn't spend weeks or months training for this in advance.. How much time does average sailor prepare in advance for becoming Navy seal which insanely tough.I'd like to see Either Recon Marine or Marine Raider try same thing they train much more differently than Standard Marine. I will give it to my fellow Devil Dog great effort Semper Fi.

      @@cliveschoonover1367 Austin Alexander never stated that in any of his vs videos. Your making assumptions. Austin is beast got give it up to him. He has fantastic discipline with great work ethic and he stated in one his videos he trains 5 to 6 days week hard core. He is MA In Navy Master of Arm equivalent to Military Police as well protecting What he needs to Navy base, ship etc. With that job he needs to stay in top shape even though I believe he goes above and beyond with that being said when does these vs video with other services and 9 times out 10 they are not hold similar job in there branch of military not require staying at peak levels of fitness. This Marine held position in Motor T or Transport most of the Marines and other services men in his videos also arnt typically aren't holding similar military jobs that require staying in top shape. I did like his video where he did Marine Corp martial arts training Mcmap he did great but he also trains in something similar in Navy. Now he does typically pick guys that are good shape. That was case of Marine in this video that was in transportation taking Basic Navy Seal physical fitness test and only missing out on swim qualification and the only way for you to get ready for swim qualification is to practice unless you were a lifeguard before you join the military and continued to swim on regular basis while in military. You use different muscles, breathing and cardio training as well as technique. With out practicing in advance almost no one will pass that portion of test. That Marine did pretty damn good. How many sailors that are in transportation can go take Marine Recon or Marine Raider test with no prep time and see how well th they do. That's point I'm making, Austin is awesome it's all about unity and bring more awareness to staying physically fit especially in Navy that he stated in another one of his videos.

      Umm. Zero days you have to get contracted before going SEALS and you can get contracted before even going to bootcamp if you have good enough scores. Now you’ll usually have training once maybe twice a week where you’ll do a pst or some other exercises and once you start passing the pst your scores will be sent in, but a lot of people get contracted before they even go to navy bootcamp. You can actually still be in high school/college and get contracted.

    • @Calisthenics-ef4gw
      @Calisthenics-ef4gw 4 года назад

      But yes I would like to see someone from any marine special forces do it cause they’ll probably pass it easily, depending on how much swimming they can do I’m not familiar with how much swimming recon does but if they can pass the swim they can definitely crush everything else.

    When I took this test, in 1987, we had to do it all in full uniform, including boots. The requirements were a bit different too. The pull up minimum was 12. And all activities were completed without breaks in between. Meaning, it was an immediate transition from one demonstration to the next. They gave you three attempts to successfully complete the PST. I took it twice. The first time through I passed everything but the run. I was six seconds too slow and it devastated me. But I came back 1 week after that and successfully completed it all. I remember vomiting all throughout the run. I took the test at Boot camp in Orlando in the dead of summer and the temperature was close to 100 degrees that day. Oh yeah, it was also a Sunday. I remember because that was graduation day for some recruits and I remember the parade field (aka the Grinder) was full of families. My run was around the Grinder and I remember people watching me as I ran by, vomiting all the way. Lol, good times.

Also, he’s a muscular guy, that’s a lot of weight/density in the water. You would be surprised to see how many of the special forces guys are not as muscular, a lot more lean muscle. Also, would be cool if you told the viewers the height and weight each time.

      I served on active duty in the Marine Corps from 1974 to 1980. I had ground combat MOS of 1371 - Combat Engineer. I made Sergeant (E-5) in 2 1/2 years. In 1978, I was stationed in Japan and my unit sent me to Water Safety Survival Instructor (WSSI) School. 30 grueling days of swimming and drown proofing, at least 3 miles a day of swimming. Plus we still did all of the regular physical training of running, pull ups, sit ups. etc. A WSSI in the Marines is considered a "secondary MOS" and our job was to teach other Marines how to swim and how not to drown. I was 23 and 24 years old and I maxxed the Marine Corps PFT score almost every time. The max is 300 points. Run 3 miles in 18 minutes, 80 sit ups in two minutes and 20 strict pull ups. When I had about 6 to 8 months before my 2nd enlistment was up in 1980, I was visiting the Navy Recruiter and trying to get at least a try out for the Navy SEALs. I was also SCUBA qualified through PADI. The Navy could not give me any guarantees of at least allowing me to take the screening tests for BUDs. Also my Marine Corps MOS did not meet the requirements of the Navy. The Navy did not have a Rating that matched my MOS. So the Recruiter told me that I had to complete an "A" School in the Navy, such as an Electricians Mate, or Boatswain Mate, Carpenters Mate, etc., Then I could apply for the SEAL test after completing the school. I had met several Navy SEALs stationed out of Coronado and I visited the BUDs training center a few times on week ends. One Sunday, me and a close friend who was a Navy Sea Bee visited the BUDs facility and we met the OOD a Navy Ensign who was just about ready to graduate BUDs. he was very cool and showed us around. I wish I could remember his last name, his first name was Mike. He served 4 years in the Marines in Infantry and was a Sergeant. When he got out he earned a 4 year degree in college on the GI Bill and became a Naval Officer . I met him in Feb. 1979. He gave us a tour of the place and then showed us the infamous bell. I never knew about or heard about the bell until he told us about it. I knew that I could pass the physical fitness tests for BUDs. I also knew that the drop out rate was high. And just because a guy is really physically fit does not mean that he would successfully make it through BUDs.

    I'll just put this out there, I think a lot of people probably skipped and just assumed the guy was a trash swimmer or something.
    The real answer is that it's a specific type of swimming stroke called ''combat sidestroke'' or css for short, and from the video, it was definitely said that it was his first time doing it.
    From looking at some videos on what a combat side stroke looks like. It is definitely not something you just do on your first try without practicing. Give this guy like a week of training and I bet he can shave off 4 mins easily.
    (edited the name of the stroke because it was wrong of me to just call it a ''combat stroke'', so I changed it to ''combat sidestroke'' but people also call it ''combat swimmer stroke'' or css for short .)

First time I ran I was hitting 14 minutes and by the time I left I was at 9:12 for the 1.5 mile run. Push ups went from 45 to 93, pull ups from 8 to 16 and sit ups from 66 to 108. • @ONSADE
      @ONSADE 3 года назад +5

      @@BK-uy9nj those were the numbers for me, im a rescue swimmer. I know the difference. If you are going for any special operation program, your numbers are expected to be even better, you will also need to condition your body to sustain intense training for prolonged times. Also, if you join the Navy under a special program, your boot camp will NOT be the same as regular people, you will be in 800 division and it’s completely different than regular bootcamp, 800 division has to train wayyyy more than regular divisions. Also, if you join the SO, SWCC or EOD program, you better be training many many months in advance before even committing to going to bootcamp, cause honestly it is not that hard but once you graduate a move on to BUDS, you will find out real quick what does “Get Sandy” means.

      It's not as hard as they're making it out to be. I didn't even make the weight standards and did this when I joined the Navy to see if I could. His lack of experience with trying some of these shows cuz he's in WAY better shape than I was. His swimming needs alot of work(more than he talks about. His line wasn't straight and his breathing was terrible), but I grew up at the community pool so swimming is much easier for me. His situps are bad. There's a trick to doing them better by locking your thumbs in your shirt collar and pointing your elbows. He's a fvcking beast on that pullup bar tho. I got 11 and that felt like death.

      @@kieronbrowne7881 the recovery stroke or combat swimmer's crawl is the most efficient stroke for beginning swimmers who haven't spent years training competitively in other strokes. With a good recovery stroke a sailor can complete 500 yards in around 9 minutes. You are allowed to use other strokes as long as you make the time requirements. My friends who were in dive school with me posted much better times than 9 minutes, for example, with the free style stroke.

      @@zappercat5701 honestly if you do breast-stroke you can easily do the 12 laps in time, well from a competitive swimmer Point of View....

      @Tai Lopez the combat stroke does make less noise and a lot less commotion in the water when done properly. In the field you'll always have at least a mask, snorkel, and fins, even as a rescue swimmer. Once you're actually in dive school you'll always be swimming with fins and other gear in open water. You'll get a lot of practice with fins in a very short time but for the measurement tests in the pool, in EOD in the late 90's at least, you can use whatever stroke you're best at.

      All this training and sweat and tears and heart ache and then gets deployed and walks on explosive and blown to pieces and everything was a waste of time. Riding in hummer and gets rpg fire and blown up or rides over a explosive and die. Walking with ya platoon and get sniped in the face from miles away or air striked and killed that way. Makes me shake my head all they go through in training camps for months and years and yet its all over in a few seconds when their killed helping invade other countries to help republicans get richer and the poor get poorer.
