Heading to boot this coming winter. Goal is to go Recon and eventually Raiders. I am VERY hesitant to go the Recon contract route due to the “needs of the Corps” possible reassignment of my MOS if I fail first time. I was planning to go 03XX and volunteer for the Recon pipeline at SOI. Can’t wait to get to SD. Stay Hard y’all.
@@the_child_snatcher solid plan brother man. I was debating MSG for a minute too but found out they don’t let spouses move with them on stations. Hope to see you in there brother!
What! Oh man in the 1970's it sure wasn't that way. No cuticle scissors (how did we survive), no tissue, no hand sanitizer, no drinking from the water fountain we couldn't even have water in our canteens. When we could we drank out of our hands from the bathroom sinks. We were told in war we won't always have water to drink so get use to it. Back then if you wanted to do bends and thrusts or push ups all day go ahead and ask the DI a question. You went to church when the DI's told you to go even if you weren't a church goer and we had to all buy a Sunday newspaper not to read but for cleaning the bathroom mirrors and windows in the squadbay. One time I went to 3 different services in one day because they told me I had to. Free time was when we got to take our 3 minute shower. Back then if one recrute screwed up we all paid for it. At the end of the day just before lights out we had about 45 to 30 minutes to work on our gear for the next day as long as no one fucked up otherwise we did bends and thrusts until lights out and we got about 10 minutes 3 times a week where we had to write letters home. Oh how times have changed. Semper Fi.
I face palmed at "hand-sanitizer." We also ran in our boots and with no warm-up stretching. Too bad if you messed up your knees or ankles and had to get recycled. Work on gear included a lot of boot polishing. But, to be fair, there was no Crucible in the 70's. In some ways, it was easier.
There is only one main thing to do to make it, just don't over think it. Literally from day one they walk you through everything, yeah they yell but honestly. Boot camp is the easiest part of your Marine Life, I know most get stuck on bootcamp wanting to get in but put more effort into after bootcamp like your MOS. Everything else is just fluff, like those saying learn your general orders before hand. Please reagrdless they are going to yell at you, so don't stress too hard and learn as you go, that is the entire point. That isn't to say don't put effort before hand but just avoid drugs, be in some what descent shape and learn to go with the flow and be part of the crowd. I saw someone say max the pft and while I would say yeah it's a good idea....trust me even at the end most wont be maxing it, just the honest truth. They hand hold you through everything, not in a motherly way but it's still hand holding with very little thinking on your part.
#1 Physical Fitness = Max the PFT before you go #2 General Orders = Memorize them by repeating them out loud 100 times phrase by phrase before you go. #3 Have Fun = For 95% of you this will be the most glorious/treacherous experience of your life.
Man that was hard to watch, some great advice and some not so much. I did PI 1990. Keep your suck shut when needed and sound off when needed. Your goal should be that those animal DIs should not know your name by the time you graduate. GET SUM and good luck!
I agree with everything you said in this video with the exception of one. Leadership positions. If you’re already a contract PFC, they won’t make you a Lance so there’s really nothing at all in it for you except for dumb bragging rights no one will care about once you leave and if you are eying that meritorious promotion to PFC, trust me the things they put squad leaders and guides through, it ain’t worth it! Other than that, nice list gentlemen!
I really wanna join SOON im 230 lbs 5 foot 9 and i was 270 4 months ago i been tryna lose weight to join, but I got a bigger issue, I CANT RUN FOR SHIT, how do I build endurance FAST
Congrats on the determination. No way to build up endurance fast. Each day go as long as you can and the next day try and beat it. You can do it, you are young and the body can do it, its the mind you have to conquer. Best of luck!
Start a routine with a good nutrition plan, fitness plan now. Run slowly for a short distance a few days of the week and you can gradually increase the mileage and days you run. There is no such thing as getting fast results. Also when you have a set running schedule, follow the 80/20 rule, 80% of your runs should be slow. It also goes for nutrition as well. The majority of what you eat should be healthy. Only allow yourself one cheat day a week if you want but in basic training, you will probably not have a cheat day.
The fear fades pretty quickly. You’ll dread the pit and quarterdeck and being told to strip. But your fear turns to respect more than anything. You’ll want to do everything to not disappoint your drill instructors especially your sdi.

If you dont go to church what do you do during all the services on Sunday? Like is it a requirement to go? Im enlisting in a year and a half and i wanna know the question to this because im in no way religious or like to go to church
Great question. Anyone who has been to bootcamp would recommend going to church regardless of your beliefs. If you stayed back, you would be doing all the morning cleaning. In my platoon, maybe 1-2 people would stay back and they cleaned until everyone else got back.
