I bought this water heater ruclips.net/user/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.
super helpful, thanks paul
Thank you Paul!
Thank you for safety tips to check
Thank you!
Bad ass video dude
Make sure you check for draft all the way around the draft hood. Sometimes it will spill out the back or sides and not the front.
Thank you
Lighting that match scared the shit outta me
how do you air seal and insulate that going thro the ceiling into the attic?
On the match test....you can also blow out the match and watch how the smoke from the match moves. It should be sucked into the vent with a frenzy. Wood matches, like you use, show the best result (lots of test smoke).
Unrelated question to the real subject here but for sure valid.
Why connect copper fittings to galvanized with no apparent dielectric barrier??? Please.
I have a direct vent water heater that routes itself from the top and bottom of the water heater by a separate pipe in the back that's chambered by 2 of some kind of black boxes on top and bottom of water heater but at no point on any of the vent piping is there any type of vent hood that I can test, it runs straight up through the roof. Sealed. It's a manafactured home water heater
Should the vent be hot to the touch?
What about when it's not running and just the pilot is burning? Will it still vent or ?
Could this be the cause for flame rollout on my water heater?
my steel tank on my hydrojet electric water heater is leaking can i caulk it for short fix?
is it a plumber or HVAC person who would repair this? can I try taking vent apart to see why its not working? (water heater rental person shut gas/unit off until our vent is fixed)
I have yet to see a vid where these guys actually show proper way to secure the vent fittings together. It's always "Nope, this is all wrong" and then no guidance at all.
Can it draft out the bottom of the tank ?. Mine was super hot on the bottom by the p. Assembly??
what happens if draft hood isn't placed and connect exhaust pipe directly to water heater?
It can potentially cause pilot to go out and also debris to go down, as well as vent pipe heating up more than normal. The worst thing; if there is an obstruction on the pipe, it could cause the flame to smother and create hazardous levels of carbon monoxide .
Thanks, question, if the vent is completely clogged... can this prevent the water heater to work?, can it turn it off by itself?
You’ll get co back in your house
What would happen if the vent pipe is blocked? A fire, an explosion, or Carbon Monoxide leaking out?? If the furnace & water heater are in the basement, would it come upstairs through heat vents?
probably carbon monoxide risk, depending on the severity. at least thats what i read on line
H P
Thank you!
Your biggest risk is carbon monoxide
Use breeze squeeze
dead flies all over my water tank means what ?
Gas leak? It is usually the gas smell that attracts them, then the lack of oxygen that kills them.
It means theyve been eating your horrid food....
You may have spiders in your house.
um no i dont think i will be placing a match near my water heater lol
Why not?
light the match, blow it out and then put it near the heater vent to see which way the smoke blows.
Remember- the exhaust _must_ vent _upward._ This installation is *dangerous* and *out of code.*
Can you please provide an example of what this configuration should look like? Dealing with fixing this now in my own home.
It _is_ venting upward. Code requires an immediate 12” of vertical before the elbow/junction, which appears here, then 1/4” in vertical for each 1 ft horizontal to get to the chimney.
