Yes, but are they that familiar with Rick James or even Prince for that matter...I mean knowing what we as Americans know about their personalities? I’m not sure it would be as funny to them as it is to us.
They are aware of the music scene and at the very least I'm sure they've heard of both Prince and Rick James. I think even if you haven't heard of them Dave and Charlie make the skits hilarious.

Dave was such a great social critic for the times, and uproariously funny as well. To me there's not one bad sketch in his show's entire run. You could pick a sketch at random, laugh your face off and hear truth at the same time. Very few comedians can spin painful topics into comedy gold. Dave has a rare gift.
