Watching Your magic carpet | adventures inspired me to buy a 27 foot Cape Dory sailboat to sail around Washington DC waters plus the Chesapeake! Thank you and GOOD LUCK
First impressions so often ring true. After 5 minutes on most boats, a little poking around, it's quite easy to accurately predict what one will find with a thorough, highly scrutinizing survey. Care, love, attention, educated, practical, meticulous attention to the micro- the small details almost always signals the same approach to the macro- larger systems, construction etc. I'm highly confident a capable surveyor would see that on your beautiful boat first sniff. Congrats on being so close to transitioning from builders, to sailors!
Can’t wait to see her in the water. I’ve been following along since very early in the refit and loved your Magic Carpet I videos. As I navigate very difficult times in my life, your videos have been a source of escapism, optimism and inspiration, and you are just such a lovely couple!
Miya , Aladino e familia - molto gracie- hit all the notes , ma no dice “ nice” per favore e un brutto parole , per etymology, non e “nice” e magnifico e bellimisma ⛵️ , ciao gracie tanto
Congratulations for all your efforts - enjoy your time on the water. I think all your spectators, including the old sailor from Germany, are proud of what you have both achieved - well done!! Fair winds und immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel.
Congratulations! Boat looks amazing. And speaking of professional; how wise to keep the surveyor anonymous and let him know during the conversations to stay on topic. That must have taken quite some energy. Well done!
Congratulations! What an accomplishment! I've enjoyed following the project and getting to know the two of you. I have the greatest respect and admiration for you both, and for Maya's father. Thanks for sharing the experience.
That's incredible! Suddenly - it seems to me, and I've been here since the beginning - she's a boat! A home, a craft (in all senses) and a thing of beauty. You guys really are on a different level. Special kudos to Maya, for whom this was often a calvary. To Maya's Dad, for doing what good Dads do. And to Aladino, for being calm and collected throughout. I can't wait for her to be in the water!!
It's difficult needing to deal with someone as unprofessional as that. He works by himself for a reason. He had a captive audience and took advantage of it. You are the professionals, and it shows.
I have owned several sailboats and also powerboats. I would have both of you work on any of my boats. I do have faith in your work that you have done and also your experience. I know that you are proud of the work you have done on the refit of your Cape George 36. Well done!
You passed your examn. Off course. Through the whole rebuild we have vitnessed so much proffessional work and exellent skills being displayed. You deserved to pass the servey - and so you did. Looking forward to follow the continued journey with you! Love from Denmark
Congratulations on passing the survey and getting insurance in place. Difficulties with gate keepers/bureaucrats is of the most dangerous hazards to deal with, unpleasant yes. Take it as a wake up call to protect yourselves, and learn ways of dealing with very difficult people and managing the risks. I probably say this as I didn't protect myself and now see how that made it so easy for them to turn me into the 'product', etc. Looking forward to the launch of Magic Carpet II, and see you celebrate a lot of hard work, a challenging process, and great learning for the future.
Congrats! It's been a long four years, but you've both persisited and got the job done. Next, launch and splash! Looking forward to whatever adventures you find on the water.
I, like most of your viewers, have been with you for a few years now. Really enjoyed the experience and getting to know you. I was shocked to learn about your experience with the surveyor. I wonder why these surveyors are not being judged on-line so that you and others can make an informed choice of who to choose. Smart move to capture some of his oratory on film, I wish you could post it and warn others. Pretty soon you will be taking this wonderful creation to sea and we all look forward to your first sail.
We are so over the moon, full of happiness for you both. This has been like years before, Maya, Seeing you bubbling with joy made us shed a happy tear. Al and you have totally made your new home epic and upliftingly gorgeous. Seeing you both beaming with all you've been through really has us cheering more than ever. Also, poise and grace is a gift you gave yourselves.
She looks great, you guys. Interesting tale about your surveyor. Congratulations on your green boat. I didn't know about your backstory. Thanks for including. Your lamp is a prize!
Pizza and beer, beautiful night, sitting in the cockpit of your boat……it’s impossible to imagine anything more relaxing and wonderful! May you have many more wonderful nights!
The insides of the boat look amazing! You guys have done a terrific job. It's a shame that there's always someone to darken a sunny day, but so long as you shrug him off, the day still shines! Congratulations on another fulfilling chapter of the Magic Carpet. I can't wait to see her ocean-bound.
You’ve both done an absolutely incredible job with the refit! You should be so proud. Just think of the adventures you have ahead in your stunning new home!!
I always know it's Friday because your video pops up. Happiest day of the week. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing Magic Carpet (II?) in the water under sail. Having worked in large hotels on the over-night shift for many years. You may want to consider adopting my philosophy: always expect the worst out of people--you will never be disappointed. Then, when they do behave in a civil & considerate manner, you will be pleasantly surprised.
It’s really wonderful that yall have arrived at the point of splashing the boat, and yall have done an amazing job on the refit Yall made it through… it’s a really beautiful boat
I remember a few years ago back in Oregon when you (Maya) were almost in tears at the amount of work that was left, even after you had spent a year and a half on it already. You said it was really draining you to be doing all this work with very little to show for it, and it almost seemed as if you wanted to quit. Well, here's your reward Maya. All that hard work did pay off, and in a big way. I bet it feels good.
I think they just needed to vent! and they did that professionally. you do not know his name and they didn't show him! Time to move on and get MC II in the water!
Much love to the both of you. The boat is looking amazing!! You navigated the turbulent currents of the surveyor perfectly well. Looking forward to the splash 🎉
Job done , erase memory , move on ! Magic Carpet 2 looks absolutely marvellous , and is a credit to all the hard work you’ve put in to her. Go sail and enjoy . The rest of the work you still have to do will make more sense once you have some experience of sailing her. 😃🥂🍻
Well just another step closer to the next wave filled adventure, magic carpet 2 is looking really special. Well done you are both really special and talented people.
You are good people, and obviously, imagine that everybody are nice and kind, but the world is not this way, unfortunately. But, you have to be proud for the work you did in this boat that is amazing. Everything was made with extreme care and love and it is evident for us that followed all your work and dedication. Congratulations and regards from Brazil. Be happy!
Beautiful boat! Aladino is the best craftsman I have ever seen. Love the loving care you patiently designed into it. Good luck on your launch and new adventure. All is well that ends well! Fair winds and following seas.
I happened apon another UTube sailing channel where the skipper had a Tshirt with the slogan "Not Aladino" on it - a tribute to the Maestro, I think. MC2 is looking fabulous!
Congrats on passing the survey! After seeing all the work over the past years and how it was all done by the 2 of you i wouldn't have needed a survey to trust this boat. It's probably better now then it was when it was brand new.
Your boat and the work you have done has got to be up there 100% with the workmanship and the use of quality products. Unfortunately the world is full of unusual people and you just happened to cross one. I wish I lived closer so I could come and say 'well done' Cheers Ian - New Zealand
Congratulations indeed, very well done! House surveys are just the same. You build or renovate your own home and tell the Surveyor about certain things, and then his Report says things that are actually untrue. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you on the water.
As others have mentioned the boat looks great and congratulations for all the great craftsmanship and dedicated work. Looking forward to splash and your sailing adventures. 😎
Top notch craftsmanship by BOTH of you .Choked me up a little when you said you are finally going in the water . My boat has been on the hard this year getting a much more minor refit and I personally know what it is like as it is not the first boat I have refit , more like the 4th .
Progressive insured my 1979 boat without even asking for a copy of the survey. And as for the surveyor, I told him before hiring him that I knew it was an old boat that had been sitting in the boatyard for a few years and I planned to do a lot of upgrades over the next few years, so all I wanted him to do was tell me if the boat was unsafe to put in the water. He had no problem with that and simply gave me recommendations on what to fix/upgrade first.
What an incredibly beautiful job you have both done with that boat. You are an inspiration and every time I think of cutting corners I remember your videos and do the right thing as best I can. I am looking forward to see you sailing.
It has become a world, at least in the west where I can speak with experience, where more and more polarising viewpoints are being vocalised with no thought or consideration as to the feelings of the other person. No attempt to even start on common ground and find points for discussion with somewhat of an open mind. I keep telling myself to stay true to my own moral code and not become a person who dogmatically thinks my point of view is the only possible one in a world of possible worlds. Your boat looks amazing. Huge Complimenti!
Good content, glad you passed servey,CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I always thought this guy was really percise and a bit of a petfectionist and raally knowledable. It all makes sence now to know as he is a proffsional boat billder. Not being nagative just lnpressted buy skills and attention to details
Wonderful boat .... wonderful work & wonderful couple. Have followed your "exploits" for some time (since you were in France). So sorry about your surveyor experience ... as a retired one (SAMS AMS), I was dismayed by your experience ... and, hopefully, if this individual was a SAMS or NAMS surveyor, the organization should be made aware of his conduct. Surveys are always somewhat traumatic and emotional ... but to have someone like described is more than unfortunate. So ... "crack on" ... and look forward to more time on the water ... let alone the beautiful music!! All the best ......
That drama you were talking about out last week? Guess it just came a week late😂 glad to Hear your survey went…. Well I’m just glad ya got the green light to splash! ❤
CONGRATULATION Cape George is a good ocean sailing boat , no to small no to big , now is brand new again .Estoy muy contento saludos desde Marina del Rey California.
The surveyor was not the only unpleasant thing you have had to deal with on the rebuild ( unplanned galley remodeled) .. But one you check off the list , and keep moving forward,, She looks amazing!!!!
Parabéns a você Maya e Aladino pelo belo trabalho realizado, se esse homem que foi vistoriar o barco, os tivesse acompanhando por 4 anos, nem precisaria ir até ai...Saudações de Santo André - São Paulo - Brasil
The boat is liking FANTASTIC! What a piece of work. We'll done to you both. I was very amused by your comments about how good the Swiss system of surveying boats is. How the Coastguard does it. Switzerland is LANDLOCKED. No coastline. How does that work?
Congratulations on getting this far. Wow! A job well done. Can’t wait to see her in the water. Sorry you had such a negative experience with the surveyor. 🙏😎🌹
You should become surveyors. I got a surveyor suggested by the broker in Ireland paid him but when I looked for insurance the surveyor had no insurance himself. So the broker got us insurance on a 40 year boat without survey for all Europe. An insured surveyor is a help buying except they will put you off nearly any boat.
Yacht surveyors are notoriously difficult, though that doesn't explain or excuse this guy's rudeness. They are being paid to be critical, especially doing an insurance or pre-purchase survey. Not everything that they comment on is covered by established norms, like ABYC or USCG. At times they have to make judgment calls, and that's often where their inexperience or bias becomes evident. Glad you got what you needed from this guy.
I have followed you from the beginning. You are absolutely fantastic with your work, as well as patience and skills ! Of course, I understand that it has been tough at times. But what enthusiasm, as well as never giving up !! Keep giving us your amazing videos. Looking forward to following your future adventures. Wishing you all the best in the future...!! With best regards. Piero Mengarelli Stockholm Sweden. 😊👍⛵
I can’t wait to see MC south bound or north bound on the Straits of Georgia ! It’s always a major step in your relationship with each other and with MC to transition from boat builder to Sea Dog’s !! Best of luck , fair winds and following seas👍😎🙏😇
Such a meticulously crafted work of art, your interior like no other! Beautiful CONGRATULATIONS on getting the survey and your ability to maintain professionalism while those that were hired did not. Welcome to tradesman except found throughout the US. Sad. S
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with your surveyor but you do get what you pay for. I as a marine broker and boat owner have met and employed many surveyors over the years and found most to be knowledgeable and professional but like you, some fall well short of that. Glad you at least got the end result you hoped for.
I wish I could have been there for your open house ... I'm really sad I can't be there for her launching. I remember when I launched mine and the excitement when the keel kisses the water. I can only imagine the smile and excitement when your boat kisses the water.
I know it's funny haha, but Switzerland does indeed have a coast guard! They have a huge amount of lakes and rivers, and a surprisingly large marine industry.
The tip I would like to give to you guys is to have an inspector that checks every step of your project. I know it works very well on the Duracell Project: That one is very professional, very strikt and doesn't speak a word!!! 😸
The boat is beautiful I’m glad you passed the survey If you were treated badly, like engaging with a ’Karen’ especially by someone you hired to perform a professional service then there is no reason why you shouldn’t show that. If you do t, then he will treat someone else equally badly.
Dear Maya and Aladino, I suffered by hearing your story of the experience with the "surveyor"... I'm sorry for you... Now, the goal (get insurance) is achieved and therefore well: point! The exceptional quality of your work is documented with hundreds of videos, and you know it but, the satisfaction of seeing your loving work recognized by a professional is very rewarding. You certainly missed this part and I understand your frustration, but nobody is at your height to make you sincere coins. For what is worth my opinion, I assure you that you have created a work of art. She will give you many satisfactions for a pile of years to come...
I was involved with the CFI catamaran ferry project in BC back in the 90's. I spent a lot of time in various yards who were building the boats. I met a very blended group of people and some of them were absolutely the most rude and unprofessional people I have ever met. I was younger in my career and it rattled me as I was not accustomed to this behavior. I get what you are saying. I moved away from BC as I did not want to be involved in that environment anymore. I was done. It was a fantastic experience but it clarified for me that I wanted nothing to do with it.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your surveyor. Here in the UK there is no specific requirement to be qualified or a member of a professional institute but you won’t get professional or public liability insurance unless you are so that’s the first thing to check with a potential surveyor. At least it’s done now and you can chose another more professional one next time. Personally I would have enjoyed surveying your vessel having watched the skill and care that you have put into it. Congratulations on a wonderful job.
CoastGaurd in Switzerland 🇨🇭 Ironic in a land locked country. But it has to be nerve racking going through this as a professional and qualified boat builder But finished and approved.❤🎉😂
I had a surveyor showing up without a hammer and declared, even before stepping aboard that he had “seen this boat before” and it was all wet while the boat came from really far away, in a different country. He made rules as he went along without being able to quote any abyc rules. There are excellent surveyors and there and some bs-ers.
Marine surveys is an un-regulated profession, stepping away from accredited surveyors by one of the two recognized associations is done at your own risks.
As a professional marine surveyor, I am disappointed that you had to put up with such poor behavior. I, too, have heard similar stories. I apologize on behalf of my profession. In your area, my choice would be A.M.S in Portland if you ever need another survey.
Just wondering, shouldn't you have the CO2 detector closer to the ground? I would think that the boat would be full of CO2 before it reached that detector.
Watching Your magic carpet | adventures inspired me to buy a 27 foot Cape Dory sailboat to sail around Washington DC waters plus the Chesapeake!

Congratulations for all your efforts - enjoy your time on the water. I think all your spectators, including the old sailor from Germany, are proud of what you have both achieved - well done!! Fair winds und immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel.
Magic Carpet really looks fantastic! You two plus you dad/father-in-law, have done such a fine job in bringing her back.
The contras between the white and wood grain in your interior really makes for a very neat and clean appearance.
Thank you so much Charles, we really appreciate that!
Spot on! I'll second that with bells on!
It was so nice to see the boat cleaned up and (at least half way) ready. Pure joy! What a wonderful vessel! All the best!

One thing for sure... Magic Carpet's skipper will be famous among Canadian surveyors for many years to come.
You passed your examn. Off course. Through the whole rebuild we have vitnessed so much proffessional work and exellent skills being displayed. You deserved to pass the servey - and so you did.
Looking forward to follow the continued journey with you!
Love from Denmark
Thank you!!
Wow! Thank you for giving us your soothing lamp images. Congratulations on getting a good result on the survey. Now for the sea trial.
Congratulations on passing the survey and getting insurance in place. Difficulties with gate keepers/bureaucrats is of the most dangerous hazards to deal with, unpleasant yes. Congrats, she looks superb. Sorry about the surveyor experience, but well done for handling it so proffesionally.
We are so over the moon, full of happiness for you both. This has been like years before, Maya, Seeing you bubbling with joy made us shed a happy tear. Also, poise and grace is a gift you gave yourselves.
"deplorable" is a pretty emotive word these days, has been since 2016 Boats looking great, looking forward to seeing her in the water.
Maya is quite precise with her words. I expect she meant it, per the dictionary definition.
She looks great, you guys. Interesting tale about your surveyor. Congratulations on your green boat. I didn't know about your backstory. Thanks for including.
Your lamp is a prize!

Good that the survey went OK. No value in talking him down and should have skipped that part. Glad you are splashing soon
Yes, you definitely should have skipped that part…
I think they just needed to vent! and they did that professionally. you do not know his name and they didn't show him! Time to move on and get MC II in the water!
I would say it is good warning for other boat owners, no name was mention, no way to identify the surveyor so all good.
Love the story of seeing your mast head light from your living quarters. Something about that resonated with me.
Being here from the very beginning - the boat looks CHIC! You guys are absolute Legends!
"Chic" is a good description. I like it.
Well just another step closer to the next wave filled adventure, magic carpet 2 is looking really special. Well done you are both really special and talented people.
Your boat looks incredible! Absolutely beautiful.
The boat looks great. You got what you needed from the surveyor; a passing comment on the unpleasantness would have sufficed.
Dino your smile is so big/that the boat passed. I can see your happiness ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Thank you for the heads-up about unprofessional sureyors. It's good informatio for my journey. The boat looks GREAT!

Congratulations on having a successful survey

It’s always a major step in your relationship with each other and with MC to transition from boat builder to Sea Dog’s !!
Best of luck , fair winds and following seas👍😎🙏😇
Such a meticulously crafted work of art, your interior like no other! Beautiful
CONGRATULATIONS on getting the survey and your ability to maintain professionalism while those that were hired did not.
I can only imagine the smile and excitement when your boat kisses the water.
guys, you must be proud. She is a beauty inside and outside, just like you
20:12 the Swiss coast guard???? you are funny
Sad it was unpleasant, but at least that off the checklist, and your goung into the water. Take care and have a wonderful weekend
The boat is beautiful
I’m glad you passed the survey
If you were treated badly, like engaging with a ’Karen’
especially by someone you hired to perform a
professional service
then there is no reason why you shouldn’t show that.
Absolutely stellar refit. I'm in awe.
can't wait for the splash.....living in anticipation.....
Well done ❤️😎lets go sailing! Cant wait to se the lady in the water! Hipphipp hurray.
The boat looks beautiful! Good job
Sometimes you just have to deal with unpleasant people, that’s life. It probably would have been better unsaid.
As a professional marine surveyor, I am disappointed that you had to put up with such poor behavior. I, too, have heard similar stories. I apologize on behalf of my profession. In your area, my choice would be A.M.S in Portland if you ever need another survey.
Coast guard in Switzerland? How funny!
That's what I thought too. Must be because of the lakes.
There's actually a massive marine industry in Switzerland. It's all lake sailing, but they take it seriously!
Excited for you guys…. Congratulations
Boat looks terrific! Can't wait for the sea trial.
It strikes me as funny that landlocked Switzerland has a coast guard. 🙂
Love how she looks. What a shame the surveyor was unpleasant. Glad you passed the survey. Alls well that ends well.
Everything looks amazing!
Just wondering, shouldn't you have the CO2 detector closer to the ground? I would think that the boat would be full of CO2 before it reached that detector.
Water is near, travellift is waiting, go, magic carpet, go! 🥰
Well done you two!
