    this is like Level 1 beginner install. Level 2 would be removing the fuse panel and installing the switch on the circuit without any evidence that there is a switch installed. Level 3 would be to use a cellular or RF keyfob receiver instead of a radioshack switch.

      Can we just skip to level 11 real quick? So, there are plenty of biocompatable polymers and manufacturing techniques to produce small flexible circuits. I propose a flat, flexible, sub cm^2 passive LC tank circuit laminated into an impermiable, flexible biopolymer and dermally implanted in a non irritating place in the hand. Then you need to install a solenoid in the car handle which is driven at some lower fraction of the resonant frequency of the implant LC tank and a pick up coil that outputs to a band pass filter wich is tuned to pass only the frequency of the implanted LC but reject the driver coil frequency. That way when you put your hand into the driver coils field, the implanted LC will oscillate as its resonant frequency and this will be picked up in the pickup coil, passed by the tuned band pass and from there, it can be detected by a microcontroller which engages a few relays which enable the fuel pump or anything else you want. This may sound rediculous to some but just watch a few videos on channels like Applied Sience or The Thought Emporium, or Cody's Lab to see what people can accomplish in a garage. The fact that you could custom tailor the system would make it virtually unhackable except through brute force.
      On the other hand you could just get full coverage.

    Tip: Mine is wired with the cigarette lighter.. Since I don't smoke and don't let anyone to smoke in my car I unplugged the lighter and I use the negative of that circuit to complete the circuit for the relay.. If the lighter is not in place the car won't start.. 🤓🤓🤓
    By the way I have 2 relays ones cut the fuel pump and the other one cut the ignition to the starter.. So it won't even crank if they figure that there is a wire there.. I still have another one going to the fuel pump so even if they crank it they won't go to far.. 😅

I don't use iPhones anymore no need to recharge my phone during my day anyways I have a charger in the office if I need it. And a battery pack on my back pack for my laptop and cellphone too.. So yeah I don't have any use for that "Outlet" again my case not yours.. If you make a living by driving and your vehicle is your office my idea may not work for you.

Assuming that a thief will be a completely unprepared amateur that has only like 3 minutes to get into the car and start it is really stupid, esp. after realizing that there are cases, even videos of those cases where thieves are going thru process of stealing a car for long tenths of minutes, sometimes even up to a whole hour, in extreme cases where no-ones at home even for long couple of hours no problem.. plenty of time for troubleshooting in that case

  • @GarthVader78
    @GarthVader78 Год назад +1

    This is awesome, wasn't sure where you were going with the fuse initially but it makes perfect sense. Intercepting wires at the ignition would be super obvious to an experienced car thief, taking them from fuses is so unique.

  • @ZippyGraphite
    @ZippyGraphite 9 лет назад +39

    As a mechanic the first place you look if the car doesn't start is the fuse box. You'll see the fuse that was tapped into. All you'd have to do is put a bit of wire in there.
    The fuse you used isn't for the fuel pump. It was for the fuel injector and fuel pump relays.

      So no more "gone in 60 seconds". I'd rather walk out to the parking lot and see someone messing with my fuse box then driving away in my car. See my point? This is a quick and cheap kill switch. I also have my wires hidden and fuse box locked just to make it more annoying for a thief. I also have a throttle control and set it to max slowness when I park it so if they do manage to take it, it won't be fun.

    1. Make sure your wire can handle more than the fuse is rated for.
    2. Fuse box is not a good place to run your wires from. In this case, the best solution would be to run it from the fuel pump.
    3. Hide the switch somewhere in passenger side. The first place someone would look for a killswitch is under a seat. I would hide it in plain sight, disguised as fog light or window heating switch for example.
    4. Use shrink tubes or terminal connectors in all car related electronic works. Vibrations will losen up electrical tape (eventually).

    • @leecowell8165
      @leecowell8165 Год назад

      Mount the switch in the trunk. And I wouldn't use the fuel pump I'd use the starter relay. You can also JBweld the fuse tap into the fuse panel that way they can't remove it without a tool if they happen to pull the fuse panel cover.

    Ollie Oak I can definitly see your point of view. Although it may not take a genius to figure out how to bypass the switch, it does take work and time (which is critical when stealing a car). This in adition to turning your wheels in a direction that makes it difficult to tow, makes the car less desirable to the thief. As I said in the video, if your car is targeted and sombody really wants it, then consider it gone. Quite frankly, if its stock or a common after market alarm, there will always be a way to steal it. Your also correct about it being a fuse to relays. Thanks for your input! Feel free to follow up! I love to hear opinions. Especially from people who have experience in this.

    Not trolling here, but you just gave the viewers (and average thief) the 411 on where you installed the kill switch on your car. Guess where they will be looking after they see your tutorial? Don’t get me wrong, it was a good tutorial, I really enjoyed it. I would just not post it for everyone to see where I installed a kill switch. The goal to stall thief for as long as possible, so they give up and move on to the next car without one, because like you said, no car is impossible to steal. However, you can make it a pain for them to do so. I however have the best kill switch on my cars, it’s called a 45 ACP deterrent switch. Man, It works miracles.

    Just wire to your fog light switch or radio knob, (*never to anything hanging out or to your fuse box or panel, from the switch itself*) or a fuel pump shut off somewhere outside, under the wheel well...thieves dont sit there trying all the differing switches or knobs...but they will drag the hand in obvious kill switch locations (humans are lazy, stereo installers being easily predictable, because of cost, repetition, etc locations are routine) I have mine paired to my fog lights, (*not your headlights*) and Ive had 4 88-93 Fox 5.0 Ponies over the last 20yrs in a high car theft location and literally have video up, of me laughing at people trying to steal one, the only way to get it is to have it towed. Currently, I run a self made (DIY) HHO Generator fashioned inside a comparable sized milk crate in my truck bed (outside in case of 'H-Bomb' *BOOM* I got a safe place for all the glass from the pickle jar to go but my redundant safeguard is in the thermodynamics of the stator vacuum pressure.) with its tube going under my cab to the engine compartment, then to a smaller pickle jar that fits perfect in the area in front of the brake booster on the 'cool side of the engine' with one hose in from the crate in my truck bed and one hose out to my air intake right before my throttle body.. Your video gives me the idea of how to make an on/off (I/O) switch for my fuel pump. Just what I need to confirm my truck can run without gasoline except for when starting up. I mean, to shut off the fuel pump and run my engine completely off of Hydrogen. I'm harnessing the forces of nature here bro and you'll be the first one to know if it works after I shut off the fuel pump with your switch. Thanks amigo and nice looking girlfriend you got helping you out. Respect. I happen to be an electronics engineer and my rsx can only be stolen with a flatbed and no witnesses so I do have a perspective on these things. It takes 20 minute to install a perfectly hidden switch with robust connections, but if you want to screw with the fuse box, solder to copper allows, add two more resistive solder joints because you need to add an additional fuse with additional resistive connections, and leave ridiculous wires hanging out of the first place a thief will look once he busts your ignition lock and the car doesn't crank, then be my guest.

    A to thin lead can potentially get to hot while driving a long time in the summer and melt the isolation.
    There a lot of cars that were burned because off such sketchy work in the electrics.
    You cant compare it with a speaker wire,because through a speaker wire goes AC!And only a bit of bass which has the most power.But on this goes a DC current and that goes continue in time,compared with the speaker wire.Look at the thickness of the wire inside the fuse!And thats only a very short wire and you are gonna make a longer wire and so with more resistance.And more resistance means more heat..

    Install two 1" +/- pieces of heat shrink tubing before soldering over the wires and allow enough clearance for soldering the joints after soldering slide heat shrink tubing over soldered areas and use a hair dryer or other heat source to shrink the insulating tubing over the entire connections. Next, never try to hold anything with your fingers when attempting to drill holes as you can seriously injure yourself when the drill bit grabs and turns the material by then it is to late to release the part. OUCH! Other than lack of experience in these areas a great well thought out video. Thanks

    The fuel pump fuse is a popular place to run a Kill-switch system. A good Car Thief knows this as well. If he is targeting your model car, along with a slim-jim he is gonna have a fuse or 2 with him. He breaks in, car cranks but wont start, he opens the fuse-box, sees the installed wire, pulls it out, pops in a fuse of his own, takes off with your car. Maybe a break locking device would be a safer bet??

      he could have but he is just using the original fuse "slot" as a point to connect his ring circuit with the switch ,it is not a bad idea and it looks neat and tidy and is not dirty or covered with oil,but yes splicing the the pos or neg wire would work,however you would have to start messing around in the wire loom or get your fingers full of muck splicing it near the actual pump

    If you get really creative, wire a three way switch in series with a relay that routes the start solenoid signal to the horn. So that not only will the car fail to start, it will also sound the horn so long as the car cranks over.
    So someone hops in your car and manages to get the car to turn over "BEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEP"

    There are a lot of things you can ground that will keep the car from starting/running. Multiply switches for severe situations. There is a problem here with having your car but with a dead battery after an attempt. Fixed by jumper cables. A pro thief will look at the fuse box before giving up because it is wire central.. And switche(s) out of sight under the dash and seat.

    Have you thought about using an accessory button for an accessory your car no longer has? Use stock looking wires, and don't mess with the fuse, interrupt the connection somewhere else down the fuel pump wiring, also use a fuse there as well...and place the switch 100% out of sight...even if you are under the dash you should not be able to see it.
    This should be combined with other security measures as well and a really good car alarm. system...and GPS tracking...some thieves don't bother with getting into the car they use tow trucks and jack your shit in less than 10 seconds.

      It needs the be the same amperage fuse.

    • @danielduncan746
      @danielduncan746 9 лет назад +1

      Alex Fernandez If you don't mind me adding to that answer, it does need the same amperage fuse. The reason is that a higher amperage fuse won't blow when the circuit's maximum amperage is reached, nullifying the purpose of it and creating risk for damage to the car and/or fire. A lower amperage fuse is likely to blow too early, making the circuit stop operating even under normal use.

    FINALLY! an easier way to install a kill switch. Thanks!
    I don't have a "fuel pump" fuse can I use the "starter relay" fuse?

    • @cmacia06
      @cmacia06  10 лет назад

      Definitely! The fuel pump is usually the best choice because people who do steal cars know that the starter is what most people put the switch on. Not only that but the fuel pump is inside the car and is nearly impossible to force start it ie.. give it a current. A starter you can actually make it turn from the outside.. (I wont say exactly how). There are other fuses that do the job too. On some cars they have a fuse called ignition coil or something like that but whatever stop your car from running is all you need! A thief only has a few minutes to start your car and if they don't do it withing that time, they just leave. Thanks for watching!

    • @gottalovethebundyd7024
      @gottalovethebundyd7024 9 лет назад +1

      +Christian Macias Nb With newer cars, even if you force the starter to run, the ECU needs at minimum a signal from the crank angle sensor and/or other sensors to start. Without those signals they can force the starter till the battery is dead and it wont start.

    • @gottalovethebundyd7024
      @gottalovethebundyd7024 9 лет назад

      +RMRKV1 that would be true if you want the armature to spin. If you want it to actually turn the engine over there are other things that need to happen my friend.

    Hi there. I have the same car. It has 2 issues that disturb me, and I want to solve them somehow. Would you help me?
    -1. That buzzer alarm sound just disturbs me a lot. I don't want to remove it totally but just to reduce the buzzing volume it makes. Maybe cover it with some plastic tape to block the sound a bit. I couldn't locate the buzzer. Where is the buzzer on this car..?
    -2. From time to time my kids just cannot close the doors so good. The door is open when the car is running. It indicates with light that the door actually is not completely closed and locked on the dashboard, but it does not buzz signal. I would like to set a buzzing signal for open doors as the car runs. Is there any way to set the buzzer to signal when the doors open when the car runs?

      A relay and a dpdt switch(or dpdt if you can't find a dpst). Connect one half of the switch like the video but the other half with have a ground and a connection to a relay that will trigger it. Then the relay with honk the horn. If you do turn the switch off on accident for whatever reason. You loose vacuum assisted brakes and power steering. This means you will need to step on the brakes much harder to stop the vehicle and also pull the steering wheel harder.

    • @dh7164
      @dh7164 8 лет назад

      Christian Macias Actually, most steering wheels just lock up when they're shut off - that is mainly why this is so dangerous, especially on the highway. Killing the engine leaves you coasting, but if you cannot turn the steering wheel, you're as good as dead, because you can't restart the engine until you've braked and shifted into park. The reason the Jeep Cherokee KL remote hacking experiment by Wired was so dangerous, was precisely because of that. Do not put your kill switch in a place where you can bump it.
