  • Wire kill switch is one of the more common searches for wiring kill switch, that seems pretty obvious. But, what you may not realize is that that search term of " wire kill switch to a ", is searched for over 257 thousand times a month....that's crazy!. It doesn't generally matter what the actual device is, wiring up a kill switch toggle switches rocker switches is all the same. So, we have created this video to help you if you are attempting to wire kill switch. it doesn't matter if its going into a Lamborghini. Ferrari or Bentley. maybe even a Honda. its all the same electrical. toggle switch and rockers switch is pretty much wire the same.

    I'll add my two cents by stating that any circuit and switch that is used to create a kill switch for any vehicle MUST be bullet-proof. Failure of the circuit will shut your engine off like a light switch and could be catastrophic resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. For this purpose, use only a military grade or aircraft grade toggle switch, preferably with a safety cover. It will cost you $20 instead of $3 , but still cheap insurance. Insure that all wiring is properly sized and all connections are soldered and properly insulated and sealed. Use quality grommets for all pass-thoughs and armor all wires with wire loom tubing. Make sure that the circuit that you create will outlast the life of the vehicle.

    @MyOnlineCarGuy1 How would you wire in a kill switch like this when using a 5 pin rocker switch to have it "Light up" when kill mode is activated? I will be wiring in a kill switch for my electric fans on my off road rig so I don't accidentally short something out when under water/mud. I recently found a "Fan Override" rocker switch and really want to use this over a basic on/off toggle switch. I am mechanically inclined, just not that great with electrical stuff.

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  3 года назад +1

      A 5 pin generally follows the same cocept as the 3 pin. Just with additional outputs.
      I would suggest either changing back to a 3 prong. Or.......a circuit breaker for the entire power supply for your fans. This way you have a solid disconnect as well as electricla protection, incase somehow they hold water even after a run.

      Yes the headlight would be the same trigger input.
      I wouldn't suggest using the oem headlight as the direct power to the light bar. But as the trigger for a relay, would be plenty fine. If you place your switch in the trigger, it would give you an "override ", while still using the headlights "on" as a requirement for the trigger.

    What if i use 3 prong switch to be tapped in my ignition coil of my motorcycle as kill switch? The live and accessory prong will be tapped to the positive wire of my ignition coil and will be the positive connection right? And if a tap ground prong to negative terminal of the battery the led will light up and my skill switch is on good connection? Thanks for the reply. New subscriber from Philippines.

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  4 года назад

      Ok so i am having a tough time fully understanding. But i am going to try. So, to do a kill switch. You would select ignition wire, (which gets 12v+ when bike is on and running) cut that wore in half, the wore connecting to the key side, goes to "batt/input" of the switch...then the other end of that ignition wire gets connected to the "device/output" of the switch. And finally the Ground connecred to gnd will activate the switches LED. Yes.
      Here is the thing. If you choose "ignition " as your "kill wire". It will shut off the bike during driving (if accidentallybumped). And that is VERY unsafe. I would suggest you wire everything how i described EXCEPT, choose the "STARTER" wire instead. This way, the bike wont start if switch it off. However, if you accidentally bump the switch, it will NOT shut the bike off during driving.
      Hope this helps. Thank you for the follow/subscribing!

      So, electrical is governes by "ohms law" without getting into too much......ohms law states (on this topic ur asking) that the additional connections as well as well.as the resistance from the slightly longer wire will add resistance and estimate 1v drop per connection and some drop for the wire length.
      That said, i imagine u are only moving a few inches maybe a ft in any 1 direction. I doubt it'll be an issue as far as the extensions creating voltage issues when done properly.

    Hey bro I just subscribed to your channel 🙏. I have a few questions for you. I have 4 Bluetooth controllers for different addressable leds setup for my charger. Everything is fused and I have them wired to ANZO UNIVERSAL 4 CHANNEL REMOTE CONTROL MODULE relay wireless switch. The relay switch has helped not drain my battery but the relay also drains the battery at a lower rate. I would like to add a kill switch for the relay switch. I have the 3 rocker led switch shown in your video . Does the rocket switch need to be fused at all? Also can the ground wire for the switch be grounded anywhere inside the car? Or does it need to be grounded where the relay harness is grounded ?

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  3 года назад +1

      ***yes, the rocker should be cabled (The wire size matters too)+ switch itself has an amperage rating (make sure ots within range of all 4 devices added together and finally fused to match everything. (to be a tiny bit above the amperage draw of all 4 of your devices.) Because the toggle switch will ultimately be carrying the load. If its in series of the supplied power for you relay module.
      ***The ground for the 3 pin, can be grounded locally/nearby def doesnt have to be the same as your other module.
      *** Finally.....if the relay module has a built in (acc) trigger, then that means the switch can be used as just a trigger. Meaning your relay draw power from somewhere else, but is ONLY activated when it sees the low amperage trigger, like how an amp turn on wire works.

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  3 года назад +1

      No. A switch doesn't hold any electrical draw. Only the device connected to the switch. So in the "off" position, your device should have no draw and ur switch itself definitely doesn't have a draw on its own.

    • @myonlinecarguy1

      No you werent wrong. You would onky need 2 prongs to function a switch. The 3rd is just for a lit LED switch. Or possibly a double pole switch.
      But at a minimum, 2 prongs is all thats needed.

    I have a question for anyone on here. I’m replacing an on/off rocker switch on an older x ray viewing cabinet.
    The old rocker switch had six wires going into it(assuming three in three out; I’ll fully admit here that i am by no means an electrician. )
    The new switch that was provided to me from my company is a three pin rocker. Can I use the three pin switch; is there a way to combine any of the six original wires?
    I hope that made sense.

    Can I use a 15amp mini toggle switch for a fuel pump kill switch

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  2 года назад

      If the fuel pump is a 15 amp load or less yes. Id suggest checking the electrical draw of the pump 1st. And leave a little wiggle room, maybe 5 amp.

    • @jasonvasquez1445
      @jasonvasquez1445 2 года назад

      @@myonlinecarguy1 when you say electrical draw do you mean the amount of power? I bought a mini on/ off switch because i was going with a size that i wanted to fit in a specific spot in my car but ended up getting it exactly at a 15amp as my pumps fuse.

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  2 года назад +1

      If the OEM fuse is 15amps for the pump, then a 15amp switch should be ok. You'll still need to make sure u use a fuse though, the switch isnt a fuse by itself. It just means the swotch will melt or not function if more then 15amps of power passes through it.

    Best way to cool a amplifier

    • @myonlinecarguy1
      @myonlinecarguy1  3 года назад

      An amp really shouldn't be getting hot. Heat is a sign that your ohm load is below the threshold of the amp,so its burning off the access "work" in the form of heat through the internal mosfet diodes. A warm amp, sure but not hot. There are some marine fan torpedoes pretty cheap that'll circulate some air, but they are pretty noisy if you can deal with that part.
