Almost all drivers today step on the brake pedal before turning on the ignition and cranking the starter. Informative video though on what you can do with a relay. 😃
Yep, the brakes are really a no-brainer.
Just found you on RUclips.. Enjoying a few cups of coffee along with all your handiwork.. Cheers from Wisconsin...
Perfect. Nice job getting everything in the shot and a great explanation too. Have a great Christmas.
Good to know the many applications for a common automotive relay. Thanks Hektor
Best and easiest explanation I've seen about relays and their purpose.......Love the idea of the brakelight trigger! Wanting to do this with RFID tag system to use as a starter kill.
Update? Did you do the RFID and was there any battery drain issues?
Thanks
Same time type of relays used on riding mowers like Deere and Hustler.
Didn’t know one could do that, appreciate it Hector, thanks to you I feel I can do that, keep up with the inspirational videos.
Kill switch and safety switch, im going to try this on my window switch. Thanks for the great videos.
Nice video, takes me back to the good old simple days.
Explanation was perfect and so easy to follow.
I just order one of those power ground circuit testers that plugs into the lighter. What a handy tool to work with your test light!
I've had a fluke meter for years in fact I have a coupla of them. They measure everything... ohms, capacitance, diodes, volts, amps. You really need to learn at least VDC circuitry to work on vehicles and while you're at it learn a bit about VAC as well that way you can work on house wiring. This is knowledge that will help you throughout life not just when you're young. BTW Fluke (115 model) meters are pricey but they're forever they're an "instrument" not a piece of shit.
Great easy to the point and very professional explanation of the job is very perfect I love thank you Sir
Sir Electric Magician.!
Thanks So much for Showing this me this Magic.
you dont even imagine how much i am grateful to you.
Thanks So much.
That is genius, it gives me all kinds of ideas to keep thieves from stealing my car.
Gracias amigo hasta manana
This is a clever variation on the typical single pole single throw toggle switch hidden somewhere under the dash. May I suggest; however, not using the brake circuit as a potential car thief just might be the one who is in the habit of putting his foot down on the brake pedal before turning the key to start the engine.
Yeah that's outright stupid and in fact my vehicle requires one to depress the brake pedal to enable start anyway.
Thanks to this video did two kill switches on my 88 Silverado and also my 06 Silverado will be doing one on my freightliner and also my dads international
"This little chingadera..." AUTO SUBSCRIBED! 🤣
HEY MAN WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VIDEO FULL OF KNOWLEGDE AND HAS AGOOD EXPLANATION...
Ooh that's how you do it it's a lot help watching this video I think ,I just ran into a problem like that with my 2001 impala
Chingaderas right here! Only in Héctor's channel 🤣
Thanks for this great video, helps to find hidden ones-
If you are having problems with lights or radio, Fuel Pump etc...
Shady Mechanics may have installed a remote Kill Switch to make you think there are mechanical problems-
Good vid. Back in 2002 I bought an Acura Integra with a bad engine. Once I got another engine in it, I couldn’t figure out why the starter wouldn’t spin. After about a 20 minutes I found a hidden relay under the dash and the control side was connected to the headlight switch. 🔦🏎
Definitely a good idea to notate the kill switch install in the "notes" section at the end of the owner's manual. A thief is not going to look in the manual to see if you wrote that down, but when you sell the car or dispose of it some other way you can just say "Hey, the kill switch info is in the manual notes in case you need it in the future."
Good job thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great idea; thanks for all your knowledge Sir!
Outstanding work, and a good follow-up.
Homie, dude You did a good job, I liked the concept, right on!
Love you man. Learned so much alrdy.. thnx for taking the time to explain everything so detailed 😊❤
Even better would be to put a toggle kill switch on the brake power side that way you need to turn on the toggle switch and hit the brake pedal to start. I too step on the brake pedal to start my truck. This would be a better solution in my opinion. Just a couple more wires to wire up.
Man great video !!!!! I don't know how I never thought of this . But your the genius for thinking of it . And brakes is the way to go. Most if not all cars now a days. You must step on the breaks to shift into drive . Even stander cars and trucks . I suggest to solder the connections to the relay.
Why solder? Every connection is push on in car already?
Keep up the good work homie, love what your doing.
Zacary Munoz appreciate you bro 🙏🏼
Wired my homies horn to his turn signals before. I thought it was hilarious, he didn't think so.
Yeah horn to brakes is funny and a Mercury switch from and old thermostat is nice to have on hand too
Great idea for my manual mustang. Thanks homie.
I stepped on my brakes and my airbag deployed. 😆
that's because you stepped on them a little too late, you rear ended someone didn't you LMAO!!
Hilarious
Daym.
😆
🤣😂😂
Hell yeah, something I can use for my personal use 👀
Awesome info greatly Appreciated 👍🏽
Yep, subscribed. This is solid content!
Thanks for the tutorial bro!!
Great instructions. Thanks!
Awesome information brudda!!! Thanks again!!
“Chingadera”, is that a technical term? 🤣🤣 Thanks for the creative ideas. I subscribed.
Great video and great example. Not really a kill switch more like what you said a safety switch for the kids... Because every car I hop in, my foot is always on the brake when turning it on lol. Iam used to push to start cars lol...
I tend to step on the brake before turning the ignition anyway. I’m used to it from being in cars with push button starters that require you to press the brake to start it
very slick ~ thanks hektor 🎉
It might sound strange, but using the brake switch is not the best option. Personally I'm 99,% stick shift guy. But even the few automatic I drive. They all oblige to press the brake pedal to start the vehicle. With that said several with manual gearbox demand the same!
So I can tell you, that the first reaction entering a car. That I intend to start, is pressing the brake and clutch! It's a second nature...
I suggest something way more discreet. A button on the dash in plain sight! For the same function. There's tons of aftermarket buttons. With symbols of pretty much anything. From heated seats, to fog lights. Get a momentary switch, of your choice and that will be a "bitch" to locate by a stranger.
You can even combine switches/functions, etc.
Another interesting option, is a magnetic switch. As the name implies, activated by a magnet! ;-)
Cheers
My personal favorite mod is use brake pedal switch power through switch to high beam trigger on relay. With switch closed no brake lights and high beam illumination without headlights/ tail lights on. Great for night escapes in wooded areas.
Hektooooooooooooor you’re a genius.
I gotta say this might be better than the one crisfix did 👌
Nice, like that relay switch 👨🔧👍
Yo hektor, could u make a video about broken or rounded bolts u encounter at the shop and how to stay efficient when you deal with them? Thanks bro love the vids.
Cool video have older truck was thinking of doing same with cigarette lighter wont start unless you push in lighter. Grew up in New Mexico got a kick out of chingadera
Lou Fresquez try it out, let me know how it goes 🤙🏼
Yeah you rewire the ignition through the lighter. Don't use the original 12 out to ignition or if the wire is always hot you can create a battery drain if you forget
Thank you great information.
Really good tips
Heeeeeectoooooor crankin em out like disney+!!👊👑
It took me a minute to figure out that you were using the brake pedal ti energize the relay which then "allows" the key signal to get to the starter. I love your solution, that way you can't forget to re-arm the system. I've used a variant of this method for forty years but it is time for me to upgrade to your method
Isn't any thief going to step on the brake pedal before starting the car? It's a very standard practice.
@@chrisgraham2904 yes, but he's doing it for his kids to not be able to accidentally start the car.
Using the brake pedal is stupid. High beams is a much better idea. But an even better method is the one I described above. That way you don't even need an extra relay just one more thing to break as he's not installing a capacitor across those contacts. Yeah one needs to place a 0.1ufd across those contacts.
Nice video Brother!
Thanks 🇺🇸👍
Yo I’m in Phoenix I actually just recently started working for firestone as a maintenance Tech but they recently moved me up to a C tech I’ve been trying to buy all the tools I can but they can be expensive if you need proof I can send you pictures of my Cintas uniforms tomorrow I really appreciated your videos they’ve helped me feel more confident in what I’m doing every day so thank you even if I don’t win I just want you to know I appreciate your vids
Ian .Thomas it’s a random pick Homie, keep working, keep moving up, never stop learning 😎
Homie Hektor dude you replying means so much thank you and crap I didn’t listen to that I heard az and I thought holy crap you might be in the same region as me email me if you have time I have a lot of questions being an employee here notice97@live.com
I am gonna need pictures. You gotta be holding your I D and that days newspaper
Tu video esta de kea ese, del uno al dies te doy un 10 KEEP ON TRUCKING.....
Grasias por la clase
Who else got their fingers crossed when he was piecing the yellow wire on the steering column and cranking....
Over all this is amazing. However one should think over the the relay activation ways as getting the relay clicks every time stepping on brakes pedal might be annoying at times.
I would put a toggle switch on the yellow wire! The one that's going to the starter relay I think! And hide it somewhere!! Much easier!
Great info very useful, but if your relay is wired to your brakes everytime you use your brakes the relay is activated which is fine nothing will happen but when i drive i constantly use my brakes. so with this setup the relay will be switching on/ off a lot, still not a problem, but that means that the relay will wear out faster( i know relays last a long time) so maybe a diferent power source would be better (so you're not left stranded). I.e. something that is not constantly used all the time. Maybe a switch between both relays? Or get power from glove box light? Anyways Awesome vid love it. Just my two pesos
That's what I was thinking as well. Great comment. Otherwise great effort by this sparky.
You can use anything it don't gotta be brakes, it could be AC, the top interior light, high beams, anything you can switch on an off basically, this is a really good video because i plan to put one in my Honda but needed a better understanding on the relay itself and the proper way to wire it, lots of good info here 🔧🔩👍👍
you mean you would have to open the glove box everytime you start the car....right???????
Youre the man!
If you hooked to your coil circuit, you would need power to the rely all the time, correct?
Great idea brother!
George 2000 relays are free at the junkyard 😎
Buena idea gracias mi hermano !!
Great video👏👏👏 video made me subscribe to the channel
Dang good idea. Didn't know you could do that.
Hey what happen my car have ignition 1 and ignition 2 and also starter 1 and starter 2 then how you know which one to wires the relay? Can you used 87A instead of 87? Let me know ASAP. Thank you. @Homie Hektor
Great video
I like to wire the relay that the circuit stays open with power. But if the relay loses power the circuit will close grounding the coil killing the motor. I was looking at the relay thinking of the 87 and 87a. Any thoughs on 87a?
Do you know the location of the fuel pump relay on a Nissan Frontier 2008?
No entiendo del kill switch, but I love you 😘💕❤️
😂😂👍
Brilliant! Nobody steps on the break before they try starting a car.
Brake.
Brilliant! Nobody gets creative before they talk shit on an example
That’s what’s up homie!
It has a chengadera! 🤔 I’m in!
Will it Kill everything. I have a old Yukon with a current draw. Need to disconnect the battery every night. I want to put a switch inside
I want to install LED for reverse lamps and be able to use at Will and as well automatically when I hit reverse in my car, how can I install my relay? Can you help me please..
Muy buen video homie, a question? What will happen after when the car is running and you step on the brake pedal,? The relay is going to click everytime de pedal is push, ? Thank you hektor, happy new year 2020 to you and your family, from your vecino .
Yes it will activate every time the brake pedal is pushed and it will stay on as long as the pedal is held down.
Hey homie hektor bro please help me to dissemble my kill switch is ground up in the main relay and the starter 04 mazda 6
great video!!!!!
Wat if i want to add a switch for the on and off? Instead of having to step on the brakes, were would the switch tap in?
Could I wire it up to a switch if I do my fuel pump relay🤔
can you please do this for modern SUV or car? Fob version with mass electronics all over the place.
Hi, do you deactivate kill switches or do you know who offers that service or can guide me through it.
Good idea
good job
Bro, thank you much for showing this and I would really love your help in building one kill switch that’s gonna be activated after your started your vehicle, I mean that if you get jumped in the street and get you out of your vehicle, the kill switch will trigger and the vehicle will shut down. Really hope to get in touch with you for more details. Thanks
Good job homie. Where can we order that hat?
Thanks. Using a switch already on the car as a kill switch. You don't have to worry about the thief finding your switch.
Good Video, with useful information... Personally I just go under the hood and pull the Fuel Pump or Starter relay from the fuse box and stick it in my pocket. Chances are a thief is not going to be walking around with a relay for your specific vehicle in their pocket. Like the idea about the curious kids. A combo wiring might be good (Foot on the brake with the headlights on) too.
👍🏼
Unless they plan to steal your car ahead of time, like a targeted theft
If I wanted to add a physical hidden switch to this circuit where would I put it?
Awesome!
Im a legend in my own mind. Boom
So after it's all wired up is your horn supposed to go beep beep when you open the glove box? Because my radio is on but my wipers are blinking, send help!
5ociopathic Ha! Good one 👍🏼
Thanks to your video, I learned how to wire up a relay kill switch. But I decided I'd go one step more-- a two relay immobilizer AND a kill switch for my theft-magnet Accord. I tapped into the clutch safety switch (you have to hold the clutch in for the car to start.)
So now I have a hidden kill switch which acts like the clutch safety switch. But the real magic is in the two relays-- they are set up in a circuit so a momentary push button energizes the relays, which then allows the fuel pump to run. When the car is turned off, the circuit opens and the fuel pump won't run.
So secret switch one = allows starter to turn over, but secret switch two = allows fuel pump to activate. Hopefully this keeps the thieving bastards from boosting this car.
Clutch? Is it manual transmission? Don’t you have to step on the clutch to turn on any manual transmission car lmao how is that a safety lock
@Charlie-lx9mg yes, it's considered a safety feature. But now to start my car, you must push in the clutch AND activate the hidden switch, on the same circuit. If the switch is not on, the car acts like you didn't push in the clutch. And then there is the secret fuel pump switch....
@@dmjole ahh I see. So it’s a two way activator. Like an AND gate circuit
My car has a seatbelt dashboard indicator light. I used the switch in the seatbelt socket to control the relay, interrupting the starter circuit. Seatbelt not fastened, starter won't work. That combined with a small normally open pushbutton switch hidden under the left front of the drivers seat makes it hard to figure out for someone else. Got to have the seatbelt fastened, reach under the edge of the seat, push the button and then turn the key.
Ahhh that's a good idea
I have 2012 BMW 528i Xdrive for my son to take to the college, think about install a fuel pump kill switch, I just installed one for my other son, his 2013 Hyundai sonata got stolen, recovered with $6500 damage, I am assume the ideal is the same, the fuel pump are all at back seat close to the gasoline trunk, my question to you is did you installed on your bmw? did you cut one wire with what color? is that green with what color wire?
Thanks
Frank
Frank just get a nice modern cobra security system . They communicate with cell phone and can be wired up to windows and sunroof to do cool stuff like luxury cars. I don't have any faith in you messing with BMW wiring
Are those wires 10 awg?
Great tutorial. Finished mine today, instead of the ignition I used the much smaller neutral safety switch wire and a light. Just be careful the lights dont burn out, then the circuit is dead and you cant start your car
That’s wat she said about being small for for fitting in tight places
Thanks homie B)
Could this be used on the main power lead to the fuse box? I have some kind of power draw I can't find and thought this might work to just shut the battery off from everything?
Just fix it. There are boat power switches but you gotta operate them manually
@@joeKisonue I think the problem was the computer but all is good for now lol
