    Homie Hektor, I enjoyed your video on relay testing. I am not here to criticize in any way. You have taken something that in general is fairly complicated to most shadetree mechanics and explained it in a very understandable and clear manner. You didn't get into tons of detail that is not necessary yet you covered everything that is important. I am a new subscriber and look forward to watching more video's from you.     Hi Hektor, Great video. Having a fuel pump issue on my Land Rover Discovery 2 and think I have a problem with my inertia switch circuit. Got power into relay cavity but when did your ground test with from positive on battery with test light got nothing so not getting ground. Do you have any videos how to check the circuit.. thanks, Jeff N.

    I love mechanics who share their expertise for people like me, learning through youtube post and some by watching someone without them knowing what I be doing. Some men hate for women to do mechanic work. Thank you for posting this video because I believe my fuel pump relay has to do with part of the reason my 95 isuzu trooper isn't getting fuel pressure. I sure hope it's not the regulator.

    Maybe you can help me. I check the fuel pump relay hole (86, 87, 85 and 30) the only one I get reading is from 86 good voltage. all the others 0 reading. what you think that can be my problem? my pump or my pcm or both

      What kind of vehicle?
      You should have two powers, one AT ALL TIMES and one with the KEY ON, 2 grounds, one AT ALL TIMES, and one control from the pcm, a switch, or other input signal. Use a test light not a voltmeter.

    So a relay that coil pulls contacts in can still be bad? So a relay can be weak and sometime work then not work? I thought IF relay clicks then good.

      If it click, that tells you that the control side is working, but it doesn’t tell you that current is flowing across on the load side of the relay.

    Thank you. You taught me more in this video and the last video All bout a relay, than either of the mechanics in my shop. Working on Vespas is similar and on a small engine scale. However the push to computer control everything has put a few more relays in the bikes and this video, you yourself are an extreme help. Thank you for these videos.

    Hello, thanks for this video, really helpful!
    In my case: sometimes, the AC clutch does not engage. Clip over the battery positive, no ground signal on pin 87 (5) which comes from the AC clutch. From the schematics, there is only one connector between AC clutch and AC relay (no other controls). Any possible causes why sometimes there is no ground signal other than wiring issues?
    When the clutch is engaging, there is ground signal on pin 87, everything works well several minutes than compressor shuts off. Power is provided to pin 30 (3) each time.

    would be nice all vehicle Relays close to battery, rather than having to Hunt and disassemble body parts to get to them. {{sigh}}

    Great info. Hector. I have a question. My 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a parasitic draw. I'm mechanically Inclined bro. I checked all the fuses while having a multimeter connected to the negative battery post and terminal. The the amp draw is about 60 milliamps. When I disconnect the the instrument cluster it goes down to about .20 amps. Is there a relay or fuse I'm not seeing? Thank you

    I kinda have a question. I got a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix you hook the battery up the lights flicker but there’s still no power to the starter.

    Hey Hector ! I’m a new subscriber; , wanted to ask if you work on older vehicles . I have a 1948 Ford F1 straight 6. My problem is engine stalls when reving up. Idle good but when I take out for a short drive, it stalls when I excellorate.

    my relay tests are all good...
    ... so, in next testing my AC clutch relay CIRCUIT/BASE (as shown in this video), i had...
    * key OFF: power to pin 30 (showed 12 volts on multimeter AND lit test light)
    PLUS: when testing the ground (87), it was good (showed 12 volts on multimeter AND lit test light)
    * key ON (or engine running): power to pin 86 (showed 12 volts on multimeter AND lit test light)
    HOWEVER: when testing the ground (85), it was mixed results?!?!?!
    >> i got the 12 volts with the multimeter
    >> BUT, i was UNABLE to light the test light (even with engine ON and A/C supposedly on... the snowflake button is blinking, so it's hard to tell what is "on" - but i tried pushing it too)
    i can't explain that.
    how is it that i can read the volts, but that not light the test light?
    thoughts?
    (p.s. - i CAN jump 30 & 87 with a paperclip and get the A/C compressor clutch to kick in)

    @2:10 you did not test for a good ground but to test if your test light is good because the negative terminal is absolutely a good ground i learned a lot from your channel and please continue sharing your expertise i thank you

    2011 Caravan problems:
    1. Dash board shows: No fuse
    2. No BUS
    3. Wiper half way
    4. Main run relay clicking
    5. ASD was clicking
    6. Stick in PARK position but DASH board shows "R"
    7. Electric lock not functioning.
    Which fuse or relay to check and fix?
    Ps: I was trying to pulling rear hub off to replace ABS sensor. Driver side door and slide door were left open, phone was being charged from car, suddenly there was beep and symptoms showed up.

    I know it has been awhile since this video, but here is a question.
    My auxiliary fan stage 1 relay ( low speed ) at the circuit has a very dim light from the test light with car off.
    My blower motor speed only works at high speed. With the car on, a/c on at low speed two pins shine bright with test light. Relay is good. Is this normal? Answers?

    Hey: Does anyone have a clue why my axillaries are not working? I recharged a recently new battery (96w)over night and placed it back in the van(Peugeot Partner DW8 2004), but now my horn/Digi clock/courtesy light/indicators/high beam and wash/wipers don't work! When I switch on my ignition my side lights come on and when I switch the engine on my main beam lights come on with the light switch off! So my lights are staying on all the time as long as the ignition switch is on and I cannot switch them off at the switch. When I switch the engine off and remove the keys the lights go off. The remote locking/alarm system also works. I have checked all the small fuses and none of them have blown. I haven't checked any relays as coming from this video yet.
    This is so strange and all I did was recharge my battery and put it back in again. Could it be an open circuit caused by possible power surge on the relay that controls them damaging it, or could it be something else? Any help is appreciated..

    my coolant fans and a/c wont come on. If i give power to 87 the fans come on
    after testing where the relay goes im getting constant power to 86 and 85....no ground or power to 30 with key on or off
    What could be causing this? From what I understand 30 should be constant power and 85 is ground correct? Why am I getting power and ground in wrong places? 2005 chevy silverado 1500

    Hey Hektor on mymy 02 mercedes I do have two power sources #87 and 85 power is not traveling to #30 are the 40A fuse #32 i"m dropping power some where. I'm open to suggestions. I have already replace the SCR still have the same problem.

    Can we adjust the multimeter on 20 volt DC to check the two sides of the load I mean 30 and 87 ?
    Will the AC clutch will activate?
    Will the fuse of the multimeter burn?
    Or it will just read the voltage between 30 and 87 ?

    Hi! I followed your instructions and tested the relay and fuse at the control box. I just replaced the new compressor, dryer, height, and low-pressure switch. But I do not know why the compressor has no power unless I use a clip to bypass at the low-pressure switch, take off the clip the compressor does not engage and the fan does not run. I also tried to replace a new RCM AND does not work at all. Please help. Thank you.

    When testing relay and circuits ,where does the B circuit come in.?in my case I have a brake switch circuit b low .not sure where to go to check as anti lock is displayed along with service engine soon.     How does it governs the off and on of the compressor clutch. My clutch will engage when switch on, but when it disengage takes over ten minutes to turn back on. I'm good with the temperature ( 46 degrees ) when clutch is working or engage but cab gets mighty hot waiting for clutch to kick back in.
    checked the relay it's good pass both test. could it be maybe the relay is overheating and not working properly? but i have switch other relays to it's position and still same effect.

    Does it matter if you had put the red lead on pin 30 and the black lead on the 87???? Or it doesn't matter.??? I am talking about when checking for amperage.

    On a 2005 pt cruiser, my wipers stop working. I REPLACED the 20 amp Fuse and still nothing..I checked the manual and it does not tell me which Relay Switch for the Wipers, do you have any Idea how to help me??

    I have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche I took the fuel pump out hook my jump box to the fuel pump and it cuts on but I'm not getting no fuel to the engine

    Hector......do you have a video of testing the Port where you insert the OBD1 scanner.....I'm not getting any codes when I plug in my scanner. I have a 92 f250 5.8 efi that's running rough and need to pull codes but not having any luck with the scanner. I tried the paper clip method too, to read codes from inside cab engine light display with no luck as well. Any help wil be greatly appreciated

    I must get my horn working (it never worked). I've been shown how to take steering wheel apart (air bag, horn switch(s), but I think it's either the fuse or relay switch. At least I'm checking that first.
    Note*** It's much easier to check the switches than tear apart any bevel then put it back together. I've done that before!!!
    I'm not a mechanic.

    Hektor great video, I have a problem with my 02 s430 Mercedes. I pulled down a wire diagram from a good source online on my suspension pump circuit. it said the relay sw 87 was hot all the time upon checking it appears to be just that. i'm wondering what happen because I thought sw 30 was hot all the time. can you explain what may have happen, I can jump the two terminals 30 and 87 and the circuit works pump will run however i can't get it to run with the relay. I have tried several new relays. Bruce

    if the light doesn't come on when touching a pin with the key on and you've already confirmed the fuses/relays are good. does that point to a bad gem module? having problems with the wipers on my 2000 mustang not turning on. replaced and checked just about everything. if I jump pin 3 and 5 with a paperclip where the intermittent relay goes the wipers turn on. power seats, windows, chimes, interior lights all work.

    I am wondering if this is how you'd test the starter relay as well? My 2012 Ford focus se has power but won't turn over. I do hear a clicking sound when I try to turn the car on but that's it. I'm unsure if it's the starter or just a connection issue. Thanks

    So if you bridge the power terminals of the A/C relay, you should hear the A/C clutch engage (assuming good A/C fuse)? And if you can apply 12V directly to the clutch wire and get the clutch to engage, there's a problem in the control circuit somewhere?

    Btw I bypassed the fuel pump relay by adding a aftermarket relay from autozone with a switch and now I have to manually turn on the fuel pump when wanting to start my car..since the computer doesn't read the original fuel pump relay when it's inserted into the circuit/fuse box..

    Would I still get voltage 11.6v if i had a bad fog light relay? The reason im asking is because the fog lights wont work but im getting a reading of 11.6v at the connector.. The lights are brand new LED's but both wont work even though i have voltage.

    I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante, l have a problem with the transmission,check engine came on ,the neutral position light is blinking, and transmission is taking off in 2nd gear, went to Auto Zone ,had it scanned and came up with code P1751and with there diagnosis,it was recommending a transmission control relay, I was wanting to no where it's located and also want to no whats the symbol on the fuse box diagram cover for the transmission relay ?

    This was helpful but im not sure I can figure out whats causing the short in my power window switch. Its not the motor and the power goes off and on but mostly off. Driving me crazy! Tried disconnecting the battery to do a reset and the power window came on plus the lights also came on in the switch. Then if i go back to the car an hour later they are off again and switch doesnt work. This happened all of a sudden. I was never having any problems with window going up or down or any noise. Stumped.

    My right front headlight is out, all lights are out except the amber parking strip on top its the only light working. I've eliminated it being the headlight bulbs or the fuses, so I took the whole headlight assembly out and hooked it up to the left side connectors and a couple lights came on when I did that but still missing the low and high beam. I tested the connectors that plug into the light and they are getting power. What do you think it could be? Ive been working on this for 2 weeks only driving my car during the day since I only have one head light. What do you think it could be, please help me figure it out....... 🙏

    Having an extra (known good) relay with the cover removed would be a great tool for troubleshooting. That's an awesome trick. A nice use of an amp meter too. Really good video Hektor.

      You can buy relays specifically for testing purposes. They have buttons that you push to test circuit. Very easy to use.

    Hi I have my ignition main circuit relay buzzing on my 2012 corolla everytime I have my fan ac on then I turn on my head light on and it buzzes and dashboard lights blink also I replaced the relay and still do the same changed the fan resistor but not luck thx hope I heard from u bye

    Can I do the same with Ford Explorer ac clutch relay? PIN numbers are different. They read single digits instead of double. The pins look different too they’re all parallel to each other

    I had an experience when I plugged in and out the relay works for fuel pump is there any possibility relay may stay off?? this will happen when the car stops and to start the car unable to start an engine due to these fuel pump relay, problem will be solved by unplug and plug again.

    Hector bro my car is having a problem starting, the only way i start it is by that using that wire way in the relay. ive tried buying relays but they have not been working . Plis may you do a video on fixing it cos im tired of always having to open the hood just to start the car. Please that be helpful thank you

    Thank you for your info. Have a 3rd gen Prius fan one turns on , fan two don't turn on ? Check fan motors with battery and ok check relays ok, check continuity from fan connector to relays but only one pin have continuity ??? check cooling sensor is ok ..Please any suggestions ?

    and So what if they key is off and the 87 is the permanently on power source and not 30 on the fuse box, when they key is on the 85 pin gives power? because I have had to replace the motor now for the 3rd time in the past 2 months. If the aircon is not running then the car temp climbs to a 100c but when aircon is on it maintains temp at 85c. Is it possible that the fuse box wiring was incorrectly connected swapping 87 and 30 around? i followed your video step by step

    My dome lights stay on on my Chrysler seabring l have to unplug them to shut them off

    about to test S/P relay now and and on this car which is odd the relays are 4 pins but can be install either way. Not sure if i reverse it mistake first time so i bought new relays.

    i have a situation. My relay load circuit is good but my control circuit does not reach ground. i tested the relay for continuity on load circuit and using alligator clips to a 12 v battery on control circuit and it is good. where can i bypass the control circuit to reach ground? this is on a car by the way. any comments and suggestion ?

    Not sure if that circuit shorted on the ecu or just the fuse/relay housing on drivers dashboard where I removed it or the fuse box under the hood??

    I can use jumpers to get the fans running in the AC clutch but I can’t put the relay in and get it working inside the car what to do

    Also an electrician told me that if my switch works by turning some components like a turning light or tail lamps that it still could be a bad switch is this true

    By passed by removing your relay switches and setting them back in and not send them in the right places where they go can it cost a car not to start

    Getting negative 14 amps from the fuel pump relay when I jump with multimeter technique. I don’t hear the fuel pump turn on either. Trying to diagnose a crank but no spark/no fuel issue
