    Very good video, informative, very easy to comprehend and apply in real life situations. I’ve been doing automotive and diesel repairs for about 15 years now, and was very afraid of electrical up until 2019.. once I just dove in and really broke out the books from tech school, I figured my way around. But after stepping out of the industry for a couple of years, and restarting around 2022, it’s nice to have this easily accessible database of this talented individual’s skill set and have him as a coach whenever you need. We all need to keep up to date with tech, or else who will fix these things? I know I’ve never taken any car I’ve ever owned to a dealership. Videos like this help me out in my personal life, side jobs, and in my career. Will definitely be a supporter, and I’ve subscribed and liked every video I’ve watched so far. Will continue to enlighten myself through your good videos. Thank you very much for making these videos sir you are a very rare breed.

Some suppliers sell these specific tools: www.autotechelectrical.com/ but if you are unable to source these, then a good alternative is getting terminal test lead attachments for your multimeter which will do the same job: www.hubitools.com/en/catalog/diagnostic-test-lead-set~0389d3b3-3acb-2bce-9ac0-39eabe1ce34f However these usually come in big kits which makes them fairly expensive. Hi ECU Testing, I have a 1989 Pontiac Firebird with a high beam indicator problem. When I turn on my headlights, the high beam indicator light stays on continuously. The car will will switch between high and low beams and I've noticed that the indicator shines a little brighter when it's on high beams. I have the service manual and it shows power to the headlights coming through the high/low beam switch with one low beam tan wire going to the low beam element and then to ground on the low beam circuit. The high beam circuit shows a green wire the high beam side of the high/low beam switch and splitting into two green wires on the output of the high/low switch where one green wire appears to go to the high beam element and then to ground while the other green wire goes to directly to the high beam indicator light and then to ground. I've checked the grounds for both headlights and and they appear to be solid with 0 ohms. I've also checked the continuity of the high/low beam switch and it seems to be okay. Do you have any suggestions for finding the ghost voltage feeding my high beam indicator light?
    Thanks, Robert

    I have my inside lights that go on when i open the door on 04 gmc envoy xlt. I bought it 5 years ago and they went working so i decided to change all the light bulbs cople years ago and still didnt work. So i went to get in my vehicle and all the lights came on, "made me happy" but after i left and came back a couple times they went back off from working. Its happened about twice a year. I started with the light abouve driver door and checked for power w multimeter which it showed power and then went to each one which all showed power. The vary back one uses a tube type fuse so last week i couldnt get the cover to stay so i left it dangle for now. Yester day i opened the door at night and the lights came on except that back light and then they stoped working in the morning when i went to leave.
    Sorry this is so long...but do u have any ideas that i can figure this out so they work again?

    • @Ecutestinglimited
      @Ecutestinglimited  9 месяцев назад

      Hi. Yes, if you remove the affected wire's terminals (de-pin) from both connectors then the wire should be isolated from the circuit. Plug both connectors back in and test for continuity between battery ground or battery voltage depending on which you suspect it is shorted to. Hope that makes sense!

      You can carry out the testing methods highlighted in this video using either an analogue or digital multimeter. However, a digital meter is always preferable as it offers more precision and reliability in results, especially when testing circuits dynamically such as during voltage drop testing. Also keep in mind that with analogue multimeters you will need to select the correct range when carrying out your tests to prevent damage to the multimeter. Hope this helps!

    I was told a while ago that a lot of modern computer controlled cars have resistive cables ! So I'd assume that if you have to re solder a cable, the pc controller would know this and still flag up a fault ? Apparently.

    • @Ecutestinglimited
      @Ecutestinglimited  9 месяцев назад +1

      Modern vehicles can use a variety of cable types, however resistive types are normally for specialised components and the majority of the vehicle's electrical system uses standard copper wiring in which a properly soldered joint shouldn't cause any problems. However, it is always worth consulting your vehicles repair manual or schematic to ensure you are following their guidelines.

    Hi i dont get the voltage drop test .You say to test from end to end will a multi meter pick this up without being connect to the negative?

    • @Ecutestinglimited
      @Ecutestinglimited  9 месяцев назад

      Hi, very good question! Yes the multimeter will produce a reading even without being directly connected to a negative. This is because in order for current to flow through the wire, the circuit must be complete by being connected to a ground point. While you're not directly touching a ground point with your multimeter probes, the circuit itself is grounded through its connection to the battery's negative terminal or another grounding point. This shared ground ensures that all components in the circuit have a common reference point for electrical potential.
      By placing one probe at the start of the wire (or one side of the component) and the other probe at the end (or the other side), you're measuring the voltage difference between these two points. This difference is the voltage drop, which occurs due to resistance in the wire or component. The multimeter doesn't need to "know" they share the same ground in an explicit sense; it simply measures the difference in electrical potential between the two points you're testing.
      In the video, we have shown a simplified wiring diagram only showing the 12v power supply wire to the alternator, whereas for this circuit to be complete there would also be a ground wire going back to battery negative or a ground point on the vehicle (in most alternators this would be the casing of the alternator itself which is attached to the chassis). Hope this helps!

      @Ecutestinglimited Of course. Thank you . Great videos by the way .I'm a spark of 30 years myself but working with single and 3 phase AC is a different ball game no where near as technical as ur game ,and I think my knowledge apart from using a multi meter is a hindrance more than a help when it comes to cars.That said I've never understood Canbus until I watched ur video today.and it's very much the same as testing and fault finding a ring main .

    Hello, after longtime....😊
    Here, 12V Vs 7V...
    I have one Super CONFUSING VOLTAGES READINGS on door opened or closed status.
    For example, in i20 2011 India version without LCD display on instrument cluster, the voltage at any door switch is SOLID 12V when door is closed, and immediately drops to SOLID 0V when it is opened.
    Now, in today's modern car like Toyota Glanza and Toyata Taisor which has LCD display, and for the same situation, when door is closed from opened, the voltage remains at solid 12V, and after about 20 secs, the voltage drops to SOLID 7V.
    As soon as door is opened, it changes to 0V.
    Now, when the door is closed again from opened, the voltage immediately rises to SOLID 12V, and stays for about 20 seconds, and then only drops to 7V.
    Now, why is this voltage drops delaying from 12 to 7??
    What's the purpose or significance of this delay in voltage drops?
    Why not immediately changed to 12V from 0?
    Why 12V, and then later slowly to 7V???

      Hi. We have actually recently completed a video on diagnosing CAN bus faults here: ruclips.net/video/fZMNzKpCGfc/видео.html The video goes over some basic principles of the CAN bus network, however, as your system includes a gateway module, the diagnostic tests at the OBD2 port may not be the same. The fault will likely lie with either the gateway module or the alternator (generator), so you will need to unplug the alternator to see if the fault disappears. If it doesn't, then test the integrity of the communication wires between the two. Finally check the gateway module's power (sometimes fused) and grounds. Hope this helps!

      That indicates the alternator is faulty. We have done a video on diagnosing faults with the alternator here: ruclips.net/video/gpFlPU2HQkY/видео.html but as you have said, it is likely a fault with the voltage regulator. Depending on the model of alternator you have, the regulator can be replaced without needing to replace the whole alternator, however we would recommend getting this confirmed by a qualified mechanic who can advise you on your specific vehicle.

    Where you bought DRAGGING TOOLS?

    • @Ecutestinglimited
      @Ecutestinglimited  Год назад +2

      Hi. We have answered this in another comment but here is the reply: "The drag tools can also be called terminal tension/pin tension tools but they can be hard to come by. Finally, if those two options aren't for you, you can always buy replacement terminals/pins for your vehicle and use those! Hope that helps."
