I'm about 98% sure that guy ate his own toast.
The victim said it himself, he doesn't like the crust. If he ate his own toast, he would certainly leave the crust, just as the culprit did.
Additionally, I know from experience that toast can be eaten remarkably quickly. There would be no problem for the guy to eat one piece of toast on the way to the bathroom, and then another on the way back to the kitchen. This could all be done within 2 minutes, ESPECIALLY if he did the unsanitary act of eating the toast IN the restroom.

Editing is the fundamental art-form of film, everything else is an extra - even the photography is subservient to the editing.
An editor can make a film with a few newspaper cuttings... or a shaky phone video, anything.
Watch a film by someone who thinks acting is the fundamental and hasn't learned anything about editing and it'll be terrible... The inverse can work fine because a good editor can make bad actors look passable.
The editing however is too complex for most viewers to understand so it goes generally unnoticed. ...As in music the songwriter goes unnoticed... everyone applauds the singer.

You forgot a couple of things:
1 - have a bunch of silent moments in the interviews where no one's saying anything and they're just staring, which is supposed to make you feel like the moment's heavy and emotional.
2 - have people repeat the same thing with different wording, to make the documentary seem like it has more content.
3 - include ocasional personal day to day experiences, like one of the interviewees playing with their kids or something, to increase the emotional impact of whatever they're talking about, or just going to the store to fetch some bread, to humanize them, even though none of these things is remotely relevant for what they're talking about.
4 - (Optional Bonus) have all interviewees with shared opinions, to provide what can potentially be misconceived by the viewer as an objective truth.
5 - (credits to: UngusBungus) The interviewee saying "excuse me" or "sorry" and then taking a deep breath and talking while crying some.

Well, not eating the crust of a damn toast should be a real crime. It's not even real bread, you'd actually have to be toothless to have problems with toast crust. And even then you could probably just crush it with your lips because ist just god damn toast bread!
I can't remember a lot about breaking bad, I probably couldn't describe the ending to someone. But one thing I absolutely remember is pretty early in the show when they capture the dealer/DEA informant and keep him in the basement and he just LEAVES THE DAMN TOAST CRUST. THAT'S NO SITUATION TO BE PICKY, ESPECIALLY NOT ABOUT A FUCKING TOAST CRUST?! AND WALT EVEN CUTS IT OFF FOR HIM? That's just enabling him in being so picky about damnn TOAST CRUST. IT'S NOT HARDER OR TASTES MUCH DIFFERENTLY THEN THE REST OF THE TOAST.
Also happy holidays people. Enjoy Christmas and a good start into the new year.

I know this isn't aimed at a particular genre but this is kind of why I grown a hatred for American true crime. The information in the video is normally stretched from something that could be 20 minutes to a 2-hour or more.
The editing makes it fun to watch but at the end of the day the substance of the information is very weak and diluted
