Ice Maker Not Working on Samsung Refrigerator - Check these 8 Things to Get it Working Again

  • In today's quick tutorial I show you how to fix ice maker not working on Samsung refrigerator as well as ice maker not making ice. Now depending on the brand or manufacture of refrigerator you have, some of the things I mention will be located in different locations. Be sure to reference your owners manual for these items.
Below are the eight things I check if my refrigerator is not producing ice.
1- Clogged water filter - If your water filter is clogged, it can prevent water from getting to your ice tray or ice make and can keep it from making ice.
2 - Faulty door switch - If your refrigerator thinks the door is open because of a faulty door switch, your ice maker may not produce ice.
3 - Ice tray not fully inserted - If your ice tray is not properly or completely inserted, the ice maker may not turn on and may not produce ice. Sometimes ice falls behind my tray and prevents it from fully inserting.
4 - Kink or damaged water line - Check the back of your refrigerator and check the water line. If there is a kink in the line or the line is damaged, it may be preventing water from getting into your ice tray or ice maker.
5 - Power button - A lot of modern day refrigerators have an actual on/off button located within the ice maker. Make sure your ice maker is turned on.
6 - Freezer temp - The ideal temperature for your freezer is 0 degrees F. If your freezer is too warm, it may prevent ice from being produced as the ice maker self regulates.
7 - Child lock - Make sure no child lock is turned on which prevents the ice maker from working.
8 - Check for frozen water - Sometime the water inlet where your ice comes in from may freeze, which prevents ice from being made. Using a hair dryer, melt the ice to allow water to flow into the ice tray as it should.
Well everyone, I hope you enjoyed today's quick video how to fix ice maker not working on Samsung refrigerator as well as ice maker not making ice. Its funny because all guides says that move the fridge and check the water line, but NONE of them says "Hey, try to serve water in a glas, if water is coming from there, your water line is ok, you don't need to move the whole freaking fridge"

Well you could still have a leak in your water line. Best to check it once and while.

Also there are usually 2 intake valves, so just because you have water to your dispenser does not mean that your valve to the icemaker is working

Thank you for this! My problem was that a part of the water line was frozen. I increased the freezer temp from -2 degrees Fahrenheit to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I used your blow-dryer de-icing method. Worked like a charm!

My father in law moved the fridge couple inches to pant behind the fridge and then my Fridge started throwing and “EP” error code. Everything still works fine , fridge water dispenser except for the ice. There’s a knocking noise then nothing. No ice in the tray either. Since I have warranty the technician didn’t even bother servicing it just wanted to swap out the whole fridge but i don’t want to do that. I tried unplugging it for a minute to reset and it shows the temperature on the inside of the fridge for a bit then goes back to the error code. I don’t know what it could be

My parents have the same fridge and the place they bought it from charged them 200 to fix the ice maker then broke shortly after... then they charged them another 500 to fix it again then broke again shortly after.
Is there any way to get back that money or sue them as I think it's outrageous to charge 700 dollars to not fix the ice make?

You rock! I had resigned myself to not having ice this summer - just heard the first cubes dropping! I had no idea there was a separate ice maker power button - the indicator inside the fridge said the ice maker was on but when I held the little blue button on the ice maker itself for 3 seconds I felt a humming begin. I also turned the freezer temp down just to be sure. Thanks so much for the great video!

Hair dryer is a dumb idea, you guys are spreading false information and destroying appliances because the heat warps the plastic, therefore destroying the cavity and making unit unrepairable. I work in appliances and have had to educate customers to use steamer, not a hair dryer or a heat gun of any kind since the steamer doesn't heat the plastic enough to melt it unlike heat guns... Videos like these are why appliance companies void warranty.

Turns out my problem was dirty filter and ice buildup behind the ice bucket.
While clearing the ice out, I noticed a switch behind the bucket housing that has to engage fully to work, I guess that’s to keep it from pouring water into it when it isn’t freezing properly.

Great video for explanations. My problem with this and models like it. The ice maker is in the fridge, these style of units, ice makers leak warm air inside and it freezes up. Mine worked a month, under warranty they fixed it, I got 2 months on the 2nd one. Finally found a serviceman who knew what he was talking about and he could fix them and give a one year warranty on the service but he told me dollars to donuts 1.5 year and the seal will fail again. They are junk, all. Get a model with the ice maker in the freezer.

Hi. Appreciate the videos VERY much. We have a Samsung that looks very much like the model you're referring to. The ice maker works fine; however, every six hours or so, it makes this weird, repetitive "whooshing" sound like it's having trouble breathing. It lasts about 10 minutes and then stops until the next time. Any ideas? Thanks very much!

    • @JMGENTERPRISES
      @JMGENTERPRISES  Год назад

So you have changed the filter? Sometimes when my ice gets low I get that whooshing sound you are referring to. However mine usually only last about two minutes. Have you tried unplugging your fridge for a couple minutes then plugging back in? I find a hard reset like that occasionally sometimes helps. Not just fridges but my computer, roomba robots, cell phone and other things 😄

I swear every Samsung should be sold with a hair dryer!!! I didn't want a Samsung - but during the height of the Panda Express, my fridge died and Samsung was the only fridge available in my area, in store. My filter is set-up like yours, but I have to turn off the water and drain the line from the back before I can replace my filter. I haven't seen anyone else talk about this issue.

    • @JMGENTERPRISES

I hear ya on Samsung fridges. I think you are doing it correctly by turning off the water before replacing the filter. It makes it a lot easier to remove when it's not under pressure.

TO EVERYONE WATCHING! DO Not use a hair dryer or heat gun of any sort because the heat will warp/melt the plastic and make your ice room warped and unrepairable, thus voiding any warranty or one time repairs. Use a steamer instead, enough heat to melt the ice, but not enough to melt the plastic.

Wouldn't the most obvious troubleshooting step be that if the water button works. The water line is ok and it can't be the water filter either. That eliminates two of your steps. Narrowing it down specifically to the ice maker or controls.

I have the same ice maker unit. Water is dispensing just fine. The ice maker is not filling. Is there a way to check if the freezer fill line is blocked with sediment? Since water dispenses with great pressure, I can rule out the filter. And since water dispenses at all, I can rule out the door switch. Right?

    • @JMGENTERPRISES
      @JMGENTERPRISES  2 года назад

Yeah, I would say you can rule out the door switch and filter. Have you tried using a hair dryer to ensure no ice is blocking the dispenser?

The reset worked and dumped water into the unit, so no ice blocking :) The compartment for the ice maker is too warm. The bottom freezer is also not as cold as it should be. 10-12 degrees instead of -8 it's set for.

My ice doesn’t empty in the bin. I have to do it manually. Not sure why. The arm to detect if the bin is filled seems fine and I can toggle it up and down. There’s no power button inside the freezer though. If there is, I just can’t find it. Maybe that’s the problem. Idk. But once I manually dump the ice. Water pours into the tray and I come back a couple hours later to check. They’re frozen and not dumped. So I press the button.

    i fixed my fridge non-dispensing water/ice issue by :
    1) remove the water container(supplied with the fridge) first, mine is non-plumbing fridge
    2) insert the 50ml syringe(filled with water) into the water container hole
    3) press on the button sensor (beside the container location) to simulate(or bluff the fridge) that u had put back the container
    4) when u hear the fridge pump machine sound
    5) compress your syringe to fill the water pipe(in the fridge) with water. some water will leak so prepare a cloth to wipe
    6) Voila. done.
