    Just brilliant! I was a little iffy about the hair dryer as so many people mentioned the thin lining so I used the heat from my hand, chipped at it with a butter knife wrapped in a thick towel, and waited a bit. Took a bit longer but I can rest at night lol. I have ice y’all!!!

    Ive had this unit for 7 years. I take my tray out and leave it out for a week or two. This will defrrost it as well as make ice at the same time. I know it sounds crazy but it works. I save the ice in a container after sliding it out of the icemaker since the tray is removed.

      @@mariaixta24 it’s just a matter of pulling it, if it doesn’t move it means the back of the tray is stuck between the ice. I recommend using a heat gun from the bottom while doing light pulls on the tray to help “chip” some of the ice away till it finally comes off. I ended up breaking a piece of the tray (doesn’t affect performance) off because I just kept yanking it 😂. Anyways good luck 👍🏽

    If you ARE going to use a hair dryer, I suggest that you use it on a "No Heat" setting, or "Low Heat" setting so as to not to damage the plastic liner of the ice maker rendering the ice maker completely useless. Many folks think a high heat hair dryer setting will yield a hotter, faster, better melting of ice condensate, however; it will also melt the plastic liner on the ice maker.

    This method works but is s a temporary fix at best. I have to defrost our ice maker like you describe in the video every few months (and we us a lot of ice so the bucket is rarely full). It also randomly decides it won't work even when it's not frosted up. I even fully defrosted it recently, did a full re-set (unplug the fridge for 2+ minutes) and cleaned every inch of the exterior, grates, etc. to remove even the most minor dust build up last night and after a couple re-sets and 14+ hours for it to make new ice it's still not working properly. It dropped about three pieces of ice over a 14 hour period. I know it can take a while to get back to normal after a re-set but in half a day it ought to be making more than a few pieces. Honestly this thing is more trouble than it's worth. A fridge with a larger freezer and three ice cube trays is a much more reliable way to constantly have enough ice, and it's completely hassle free. I'm at the point where I'm tempted to buy a better model even though this one's only 3 years old.
    There are known issues with certain Samsung refrigerators with built in ice makers (this particular model isn't properly insulated and sealed), stoves (display flickering that can eventually prevent it from working properly and requires the display be replaced), and microwaves (starts up when you don't quite close the door). We've got 4 Samsung appliances and three of them have these exact issues. I'll never buy another Samsung kitchen appliance without doing a lot of research into the model and potential issues.

    • @MattHenders0n
      @MattHenders0n 5 месяцев назад +1

      Not just a Samsung problem; Most appliance repair pros will tell you to buy a refrigerator without an ice maker as the ice maker is the device that fails the most.

    It's nice to know I've been doing the right thing, although I use a metal spatula/knife to chip out the ice. Good to know that if I use a hair dryer, to use it on a no-heat/low-heat setting. The worst part of the whole thing for me is trying to get the ice tray out. I'm short and the angles are horrible. I go through this every month and I live in AZ with little humidity.

    As a technician do you how many times I have seen customers burning the liner by using a hair dryer? The plastic liner on those Samsung refrigerator is really thin. The best way to melt the ice on a refrigerator is by using a steamer. Small ones are like 20 bucks. I use it to clear a frozen drain line, to defrost an evaporator or Samsung ice makers. I recently went to a Samsung fridge where a customer damaged the the liner inside the ice maker area compartment by using a hair dryer. That was unrepairable cause now it was impossible to insert or put the ice tray in place. The bad thing about was the he paid 5000 dollars for the fridge and the fridge was only 3 months old.

    I tried, defrosted and cleaned it all out, but my ice still isn’t being made. Could that be a filter issue or could it be because I have a crack in my ice maker’s container (I did fix it with duct tape until I can get a replacement). That cracking was what I found when I pulled it all out, from buildup apparently. I put it back together and the only other thing I can think is that I have not changed my filter, any ideas lol!? When the fridge was still covered under warranty they came out and replaced the ice maker because the ice maker was known for this build up. I swear they replaced it with the same part. Currently waiting for this $2400 fridge to die so I can replace it.

    I don't have the model with the screen for the icemaker. So how do I thaw the icemaker then? I can't get the icemaker tray to come out probably because of buildup of ice inside.

      Depends on your ice maker, but maybe a couple of hours tops.

    It's a constant thing. I put a towel on the bottom upfront for the water. If they made it with just 1/2 inch more clearance it would not be an issue I believe.

      That sounds like an issue with the power supply. Try checking the power cord and outlet.

    I know this is an old video so I’m not really expecting an answer. but hopefully you will. What if I can’t even get my drawer open and come out.? I inherited the fridge when I bought the house in 2020 the icemaker has never worked. Even the person who sold me the house said they never had the ice maker work.

    On the door panel, the lighted touch-switch says "Ice off." When I press it, the switch won't respond. Your thoughts?

      Try resetting the fridge, by switching the breaker off then back on. Thst might reset it.

    There is a serious design flaw in these style of ice makers. mine will work for about 2 weeks and then the frost build up will cause the cubes to freeze and stick. Going to try Ricky's idea of calling Samsung and see if they can bring out new parts. Such a pain and a big disappointment in an otherwise nice fridge.

      Robert, I agree with you. It is unfortunate, but we have to live with them. Let me know if you get anywhere with Samsung.

    Hey great video. I've had this Samsung for 10 years with consistent and repeated no ice issues (RF23HCEDBSR/AA). The ice tray is empty now and I still see ice build up. I tried the rest button...nothing. This is out of warranty and Samsung is useless. Thank you

    Hi quick question how long should you then let the ice maker rest before trying the ice again? I read 4-5h somewhere but another poste says 6-12h?

  • @teresalane1004
    @teresalane1004 3 года назад +2

    That isn't my problem. I pulled opened the ice maker and there was no ice in the bin and just a small amount of ice buildup that I was able to pull off with my hands. Any other suggestions of what it might be? I added some store bought ice cubes to the tray and it came out the door just fine.

    • @GReviewz
      @GReviewz  3 года назад +2

      possibly try to disable the ice maker and 24-48 hours re-enable it, does your fridge have a powercool mode? try replacing the water filter, also, look at the top of the ice maker, sometimes there is ice jammed/frozen up there where it usually falls from. hope this helps.

      There is a button inside the ice maker that you can press and hold until you hear a beep. That will reset the ice maker.

      Thank you for the replies. Actually, my refrigerator stopped cooling so after some research I cleaned the coils. I had it off for probably 24+ hours (I thoroughly cleaned the inside as well) and after I plugged it back in, not only did it cool/freeze properly, my ice maker magically started working again! Yay me! 😆
