My Samsung 4 door was made in 2017. After months of defrosting, I finally got Samsung to come out and they replaced the ice maker around 2022. Seemed okay for about 3-4 months then started forming ice again. I also had ice forming in the bottom of my fridge area and water leaking from the ice maker or ice maker schute and leaking on to our floor and the puddle on our tile floor damaged our new kitchen cabinet at the floor. Samsung came out again and the technicians worked on the fridge again, removed the icemaker and via a zoom call, a third technician said that since I used a hair dryer to melt the ice, that they would not repair. Put the icemaker back and said good luck and goodbye. Will never buy another Samsung product. If they would have just replaced that little gasket on the coil and added some silicon, i believe that would have fixed it for good. Great video. Now I need to decide if I just want to dump this fridge or fix it myself.
Samsung paired with dish network for their repairs. I kid u not, the satellite TV guys get repair orders for Samsung appliances. they dont get any training whatsoever for them either. just diagrams on a tablet or phone and some terrible troubleshooting steps. how do I know this? I worked for Dish network and was sent to countless Samsung dryer / washer and refrigerator repairs.
I installed the y clips and silicone based on another video's advice, and I have not had problems with the icemaker filling with frost since (just superficial frost from the poor sealing of the flapper). Others cover the Y clips, but your video is the first to explain exactly why the Y-clips work, including a visualization of how condensation draining should work and how they help. The explanation of how the ice accumulating slowly stops the entire icemaker functioning is also excellent. Thanks!
I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. My unit was out of warranty by over 3 years and I told them I hadn't had ice for almost 2 years and tried everything short of replacing it to get it to work. I think they realize they had a faulty unit and needed to stay ahead of any class action that in the conversation on the internet. Now I'm happy, happy, happy! Thank you Samsung, you really shined!
same here, i did the fixes that were on the tube 2years ago, same issue. called samsung they sending a guy on in a couple days. let them sort it out. doesnt matter if out of warranty they lost a class action lawsuit. so everyone will get this fixed for free
@@jlsolans They must have changed their approach. I'd call them and get a little upset with all the frustration you've had and of course surgar coat it with I have always bought Samsung products and this just might change my mind. LOL Good luck
I have had no ice for almost 1 year and this video was excellent. Thank you, it worked and now I have Ice plus money I save on a service call or new refrigerator. So happy. Thank you!
Just a note for folks who first experience the freezing problem after a long time of normal icemaker function. I was able to revive our icemaker's operation by running the full programmed time of the forced defrost mode and pressing the icemaker's reset button. I had already removed frost in the compartment, and wiped out the condensation. I may need to take the icemaker apart and add the modified part with its Y clips, but perhaps not. I think we got the freeze up from evaporative cooler humidity, frequent door opening, and me putting damp water bottles on the shelf below the icemaker. I'll see if we can avoid a repeat by changing some behavior. If not, this video is a great resource and I'll wait to do the service when we don't have the fridge full of food.
Thank you so much. I followed your directions and now have no more problems. After one month, I still have no ice build up. Also, I defrosted by putting four mugs of boiling water inside the ice maker on a towel. Then , I snugged another towel over the opening. Changing the mugs every hour. This worked very well for defrosting as the fridge was still on. I left room in the mugs for melting ice. Your video was such a great help. Thank you again
Bought my fridge in 2018 from Home Depot. Problem started 2 months ago. Nice video. FYI. Contacted Samsung. Told them the problem, Model # Serial # and where I bought it. After 20 minute call, they arranged to replace the ice maker and fix the problem free of charge. 10 minutes later the service company called to schedule the repair. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to post this very informative video. And a special thanks to those who suggested contact with Samsung, even with out of warranty refrigerators. As a result, Samsung will fix our ice maker, hopefully, free of charge. Note: I did spend $80 for a “repairman” to troubleshoot the problem. He only took photos, particularly of the manufacture’s S/N etc - did not touch the ice maker. Then he handed me a written estimate for $1200 to repair our ice maker. Sent him on his way with his $80. Thanks again.
I ordered the part just now as I just did this for the 3rd time this morning. Repair man came and replaced my water filtering unit for a lot of money and said he could fix this ice issue for around 300.00 by Insulating it???? I thought what does he mean. haha. So your video did it perfectly. I use a towel to capture the Ice falling down and water dripping down and I let that dang hair dryer go at a good hot speed. Removing the components look a little tricky but I know I can do it. Thanks for the effort. Excellent.
Over here in UK, I am having great difficulty in finding a source for the replacement part number and ultimately he parts themselves. I would appreciate any help.
Had this problem with my fridge. Was using a hair dryer on a regular basis to defrost and get ice making working again. Learned of the Samsung repair and had them come and replace the ice maker and add silicon caulking. Unit was back to its old behavior after about six months, so back to the process of defrosting every few weeks with the hairdryer. Came across another youtube video recommending the use of aluminum tape (hvac tape) on the inside of the ice maker instead of silicone caulking. Also found the service manual for my fridge and learned how to activate the force defrost (fd) mode, so no more hairdryer needed. My icemaker already had the y-clips from the previous Samsung repair. I was having issues when inserting the ice bucket, and was having to depress plastic in the tray with a spoon in order to get the ice bucket to insert correctly. As part of my repair, I decided to replace the ice maker as well (but keep the augur motor). I learned that the top of the existing ice maker was slightly warped, and this meant it was not clipping in at the top, which is why my ice bucket would not insert correctly. I guess the warping of the ice maker was from the various defrosts with the hair dryer. Also I noticed various cracks in my ice bucket, so decided to purchase a replacement for that too. Anyway, after removing the old caulking inside, adding the aluminum tape, inserting the new ice maker component and successfully clipping in at the top, and inserting my new ice bucket, the ice making has been working flawlessly for about 3 weeks now. It's still early days, but looking good so far. It may need an occasional defrost after a few months, but now knowing how to use fd, I can live with that. I would generally recommend the aluminum tape method for repair over the caulking method shown in this video.
Thank you so much for making this video! One little thing we learned from fixing the refrigerator fan. when you have everything out of the ice maker, take your handy turkey baster and put hot water in the drain pipe to make sure it's working correctly too. Hoping for no more ice making issues also. Now I'll have to use my steamer for what it was intended ;)
Thank you very much for making the video and also linking the stuff you used in your description. For anyone who follows this video it 100% works. My ice maker used to drip water before dispensing ice, and would freeze over every 3 - 5 days, and I would have to scrape and melt all the stuff off. Now, it's completely functional and hasn't frozen over at all. Thanks a lot!
I really appreciate the detailed and easy to follow information. This is the best video I've seen which is very clear. You just helped a lot of people save a lot of headache with the ice maker and also save us a lot of money for repair. Thank you for taking your time to make this wonderful video.
I did everything you said to do down to buying the Samsung part from Amazon. I pushed the reset button last night and I woke up to a full bin of ice! First time in months my ice maker works like it did when I first bought it. I can't thank you enough. Your video was excellent. If I can follow along as easy as I did, I know anybody can. Thanks again!
When you say "reset" button, do you mean the "TEST" button on the upper right side? (mine is blue). Mine has been fixed two or three times under warranty, including replacing the drawer once. It feels like they added the silicon at the bottom, but I would have to take it apart to see if they did the upper part or installed the new parts that are shown in the video. They did install something that was supposed to fix it. However, it had a serious blob in it again, and I have broken a piece out of the back of the drawer. Once I got the drawer out, I was able to get all the visible ice to thaw quickly, so I am hoping it might start working again with just a "reset" and I won't have to take it all apart. It is off the extended warranty now.
Walt-Thank you very much for the informative video and discussion. We have had our Samsung since late 2017 and have had to defrost the ice machine on multiple occasions. I have used the hairdryer routinely on Hi Heat (I may be lucky that I haven't harmed anything). It takes about 5 minutes to defrost everything and that keeps things running for another month or so. Someone told me that there was a fix out there, hence my visit to RUclips and eventually your video. So after ordering the part (Amazon actually has 2 replacement parts to order, so I ordered both). The first one to arrive was the cheaper of the 2 ($9.34 regular replacement vs $20.26 upgraded replacement). After watching your video a couple of times and taking notes, I jumped in with both hands only to find that our icemaker already had the fix (slanted edges & clips) applied that you demonstrated on your video. I still removed and replaced with the new regular one. It will be interesting to see if this fixes the problem. If it doesn't, I will install the upgraded replacement part when it arrives. Again, Thank you for your help. I hope my info has helped further the cause!
Thank you 1000 times for this video. Everything went exactly as you show and I finally get good ice and there is zero condensation freezing up inside my icemaker.
This is best video I found for exactly describing issue we were having! The ice creep on underside and constant chunks built up in back. And with parts linked. Thanks so much for making this. Really hope this solves issue. Another video mentioned adding a backer rod under gasket on door that goes to ice chute so that when door is closed the gasket stays in contact with bottom interior ice maker. That might be helpful too. Really hope all these steps helps us so we don't need to buy another fridge. Of course we are out of warranty.
Thanks for the video. This fix worked great. Result -- a bin full of ice and no ice buildup at all on the underside of the maker. Awesome! Now we love our Samsung fridge again!
Thanks! Your video covered it all. Some others would leave out just enough (how to remove the parts without breaking everything) to make me question if i should be doing this. I felt confident throughout with your direction!
I have had this issue for 6 years. I called Samsung as others have commented on doing themselves and they sent out a technician to install the kit provided in this video. It has been 2 months and I have to say I do not want to take a hammer to my expensive refrigerator anymore. Since the replacement the ice maker has yet to freeze. The only issue is the water line does freeze up but I have purchased the additional heater kit and I believe this will solve my problems. I am very pleased but disappointed it took 6 years to solve this problem. CALL SAMSUNG they will send someone out at no cost.
Instead of a hair dryer, the fastest way to get rid of ice in the icermaker area, is to put a couple of cups with boiling water in there and then cover the outside loosely with a towel. This also means you don't have to stand there and watch it as it defrosts. Just dry everything carefully with a towel after you're done defrosting, as there will be more condensation.
Glad I found that video with perfect steps and explanations. However even better that some people successfully managed to get Samsung to fix it. I contacted them via Chat and after providing some details they are waiving all cost and get it replaced at zero cost despite being out of warranty. Great to see that Samsung is taking care of this now.
Really appreciate the video. Been dealing with this for the past couple of years and fixed it with the part replacement you recommended! It’s been going on one month now and no frost on the ice machine so it is doing it’s job. Thank you!
ive just watched this video and it is a great video to fix or minimize this probem, i have also a samsung fridge,im in canada and when i called samsung they just denied that there was any issue with icemaker, they were unwilling to do anything as fridge was a year out of warranty,i think that this is completely unnacceptable. in the usa samsung may have adopted a different attitude based upon many comments on this post.in canada they have not, if you can just go on any of the bigbox sites and post negative reviews of the fridge, at least it can alert potential buyers of the pitfalls of this fridge, which is what ive done, this is just poor engineering and i agree with one posters comments which say,"you should not have to do this on a 2k fridge cost" yes its great to have the video and i found it very comprehensive, but unless we speak with our wallets companies like samsung will continue to turn out crap-designed products. thankyou to walt for the fix post
Ahh, sorry to hear that. I know how frustrating this issue is, which is why I made the video. Too bad they can't fix their problem, maybe it's time for a class action lol?
Thanks for making this video! I had the problem "fixed" under warranty, but it didn't work! So as soon as the ice runs out, I take out my handy steamer and defrost it, in a few minutes. Much better than using a hair dryer! I put all the ice cubes that were stuck to the wall in the tray, so I have ice until it starts making more. I will first try to seal the compartment from the outside and if it does not help, do it from the inside!
We're on our 5th ice maker. Experience with a whole bunch of technicians showed us how to quickly deal with ice. Get a steam gun or cleaner. NOT the floor model. All of the recent techs used a steady blast of hot steam into all the openings for about 30min to release the bin unit and not damage any plastic or other components. Following up inside the unit the steam produces lots of fog and water. Steam is much faster than a heat gun and is easier to target. Layering some towels the floor of the unit will keep the fridge and the kitchen floor more or less dry. Needless to say we will never have another Samsung fridge.
My Gawd! Thank you for this. I've been ready to take a hammer and sickle to this fridge for years because of this issue. None of the vidz online nor the tech we paid EVER had reference to removing the motor and dealing with the drip. Resealed, replaced solenoids, dealing with a discontinued flow sensor, being told to buy a expensive main board for a working fridge. ... Thanks again and I'll let you cut in line if I'm closer to the pearly gates
I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. Thanks for the vidoe. Today is oct 3 2021 and i just finished doing this repair. Followet the steps to the T and even added extra layer of silicon to make sure the condensation factor is removed (as much as possible at least). Previous to this i was defrosting the refirgerator every 6 weeks or so ...lets see now. Will try to come back in future for an update. Crossing fingers. Thanks again!
Followed step by step and it really works. He makes it easy to understand. Easy to follow. I was able to fix my ice maker which had been out for about a year. Thank you for making this.
Thanks a lot for the video!! After a few months of dealing with no ice/water everywhere/wet ice, following your video was the perfect solution to this problem. Thanks again!!
my ice maker was replaced once for the same issue. my fridge is 9 years old. since replacement, only twice I've had to use the hairdryer on full heat from the doorway with a towel laying along inside bottom for approximately 15 minutes. 5 hungry people live in this house and not a big issue. Hair dryer, 15 minutes, high heat from doorway with towel inside to soak up the water, and cycle two pitchers of ice to flush out possible contaminates in water and ice. You'll be good to go for another 4 to 6 years. No big deal..quite pleased with the fridge and both ice makers. very convenient.
I’ve done this “fix” plus replaced the ice maker and auger motor with Samsung’s new design and sealed all the edges with silicone and it still freezes over with time. This ice maker is just a bad design and Samsung refuses to admit it and provide a replacement or actual fix. Now Samsung has a ice maker repair kit for this ice maker that replaces a control panel as well. I’m not wasting anymore money on this piece of junk. Samsung TVs are amazing, but this is the last fridge from them I buy.
I agree completely, I have one of these Samsung POS refrigerators also. Icemaker was replaced under warranty and is worse now than before even after the box was sealed. :/ BTW- I also had a Samsung TV that bit the dust! I recently learned that LG refrigerators are experiencing compressor failures with their new 'linear' compressor. It's really getting difficult to buy a decent appliance these days!
@@DuaneBrownell You've got that right. I had a Samsung Quadracool Refrigerator that I really liked for a couple of years, but after 12 different repair visits with no solution in sight Samsung had me cut the cord and issued a partial refund. I used the money to buy an LG, then less than 5 years later the compressor died. When I looked for another new fridge I decided I liked the Samsung features best in the class I was looking at and against my better judgement bought another Samsung. I've just turned the ice maker off for the last two years and the freezer light just went out recently. Where's the stuff that used to last 25+ years? I'm sick of spending thousands for shiny garbage.

Great work... But a new update.. Update!! Call samsung...give them the info...answer a few questions..will send a tech out..will replace all parts necessary ice maker, water tube, and few more parts in the back with New parts! No charge!!!
My ice maker did not have as much frozen ice as his and did not take long to defrost. Upon taking mine apart I notice that my unit had the new plastic part with the clips. Amazon did not have the part in stock. As a result I sealed the inside and outside of the ice maker with freezer rated silicone. The next day it was working perfectly with no condensation. Thanks for the information.👍🏼
Excellent video. Samsung says they will fix mine for free, but now I know exactly what the story is, and definitely could do it myself. The big problem is defrosting, fer sure.
Excellent video tutorial! Thank you so much for your detailed repair. I really liked you showing the air gap which will definitely cause the ice maker to freeze up!
Excellent video. Now I can pull the rear motor block out to realign a deformed plastic guide due to the use of a heating gun to melt the ice . I know it was a fatal idea and was wondering how to remove that unit. Thanks to you I will do it now, hoping to resolve the issue. Thanks a lot. Ramon Perer, Miami, Fl
GREAT video. Concise and to the point, and more importantly capturing all the important bits on video to see. I have the model of fridge that is I think a year after the one in the video (mine is rf23m8070sr/aa), and it comes with the "fix" part installed already and there is no gap between the regular fridge space and the ice compartment on that left side. Good to see Samsung is taking notes with new models, but it still has ice-over problems. It took 2.5 years for those problems to show up, so that's good I suppose. Going through this disassembly now and it's nearly identical step-by-step. My motor does appear to be frozen in place for now, but I'm letting it thaw a bit before giving another good tug.
The same thing happened to me. I dismantled it all the way and found the exact new parts were already installed at the factory. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've had really good runs where I don't have any issues for over a year, but once in a while I get the FREEZE. Very good explanation of how to get in there deep. Thanks!
Bravo!!! The “Ice Master” in the fridge that came with the recently-purchased house was seriously frozen and the catch bucket ‘fixed’ by the previous owner. The updated ice maker tray assembly wasn’t as nice as the original but all I needed was the bucket and was able to swap the new bucket over to the old OEM assembly. The stopping of the freezup was my next search and found your very informative video. Thank you 😊 But please, “De Thaw?” I think you meant “Defrost”.
The hair dryer is not recommended. The plastic is very thin and the little room allows the heat to rise quickly. If you warp the plastic, it can not be repaired.
Thanks for this video, I have to give kuddos to you for figuring this out, I stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago because people usually hate this refrigerator and never wanted to pay the bill to fix it anyway
Great video i done know how i haven't seen this before, Samsung also came out to repair mine after my warranty ran out but all they did was swap the ice maker and I had the same issue cant believe they didn't provide the upgrade? Anyway i will now , thanks again maybe Samsung can reimburse you for that stuff in your fridge!! lol
I really enjoyed the clear video. Unfortunately, my ice maker is slightly different, which is making removal more complicated. Mine has an extra screw on the side, so just pressing the tap isn't sufficient to remove it. Now I'm looking for a right angle screwdriver that will fit in that tiny space.
I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. Nice job! One thing I did as well is I put some tubular insulation in the white rubber seal between the ice dispenser and the door to make a better seal. That way air doesn’t get into the ice box.
Pretty sure there is a screw on the main unit on mine on the 4:51 upper right side. Pressing the tab is not releasing it for me and I can see a screw up there that would need an offset screw driver to remove.
"de=thaw"??? So if thaw means to "melt" seems to me "de-thaw" would be to freeze. As my English teacher was fond of saying... words have meaning! I DID really appreciate the steady camera work. Well done there!
Great info! I do wonder if you threw your food out after the job....seems like the contents of your fridge was warm for a long time! All kidding aside, great content and instructions.
Well, 2 months out since the 'repair' and I have ZERO ice and Friday buildup in the freezer compartment. I moved all my food to a second unit during the 'big fix' then turned off the Samsung unit for a full week. I kept driving it out during this process. After I was sure it was 100% dry, I then used a clear silicone caulk ( ASI 502 high performance 100% RTV silicone) this is designed for extremely low temps ( such as a freezer) . I having it another WEEK to cure out. After reassembling the unit and lettering it up, It NO LONGER FREEZES UP!!! There is your fix in a nut shell. Just be sure to caulk EVERY seam, inside and out to and bottom
Have you ever heard of Tannerite? It's an explosive that I was about to insert in the ice maker and shoot it with my AR-15. Excellent video of the fix but you said you had to buy the part? Samsung should have sent it to you for free plus pay you what there technician would have gotten paid for doing this job. You earned a new sub for this demonstration, now I just need to work up the courage to do the same thing. Thanks again for the video.
@@waltsreviews90 Hi Walt, just wanted to give you an update on the video about my tannerite vs the ice maker. Just got off the phone with Samsung and they agreed this is an ongoing problem and even though our fridge is four years old and out of warranty there sending a technician out to replace it with the updated ice maker for FREE. I'm going to make sure he does the switch like you showed in your video. I do appreciate your video and should this new version be a problem I will make you a video of how to remove a junky ice maker with tannerite. Have a good weekend.
This is an excellent video and very helpful in addressing this issue. Well done Walt! However, after having this issue after only 3 years of owning the appliance, the real message is to never buy another Samsung appliance. It's unconscionable that Samsung would sell a product with this type of design flaw. It's designed obsolescence at its best. I don't mind doing routine maintenance, but this degree of disassembly was obviously never intended by Samsung. You have to bend the heating element just to get the ice maker in and out. And the new gasket and the new clips don't work because my unit had the clips already installed by Samsung (must be a newer model than that in this video) and the ice maker still freezes up. I've added silicon caulk as shown here, but we'll see if that helps. Next time - I'll buy something other than Samsung.
Very, very clear explanation and instruction with great video and diction. One point. Dethaw - never heard that term, but know what you meant. "A confusing conjunction of "defrost" and "thaw". Has a corresponding etymology to unthaw. Literally it means to refreeze, however, it has never actually been used correctly in conversation. Ever. In fact, it is always used to mean the opposite- a synonym for thaw. Just say thaw, not dethaw, not unthaw, just thaw." Thank you.
Thanks for the video. That's some crazy effort. It made me realize I'm just going to count it as a total loss. Mine won't even pull out and no way I'm going through this much effort. Lol
It's really not that much effort when you consider what the cost savings and end result will be. The biggest hassle involved is defrosting everything fully.
@@Wilterweight i bought the stuff but going to wait until winter so i can just set the food outside. I don't ever use ice. If i didn't have a wife i would never fix it. 🤣

Appliance repair tech did mine under warranty less than a year ago. He said he had done like 100 of them so i didn't worry about it or watch him too closely. Ice build up speed was reduced but I decided to take it apart and he didn't seem to think it was necessary to install the plastic flange or metal clips. He also did a poor job sealing it up as water was leaking out the side still while defrosting. I hope he didn't skip too many other steps. I will have to order my own clips and plastic piece and install them myself. Hope it fixes the icing 100%.
WOW Walt this was a great video on what I have been going through. I had taken the 3 year extended warranty and the repair man he going to come for mine. I know they say don't use a hairdryer but I also can't wait three days either. So I used it anyway and got all ice I could see but it only lasted about 3-4 days before I had to do it again. After doing this 5 times I gave in and called Samsung. Thanks for the video...

Hi, most comprehensive video I have seen yet on this issue, just wish I could find the force defrost setting in my UK machine as it doesn’t seem to work! What is the little repair kit called and where do you buy it? Thanks
Thanks, I bought this Samsung model new frig in 2017 and it is ok so far. In 2018 My daughter bought the same model and has water leaks from the ice maker. Samsung quoted a Prepaid service quote of $400. Yikes. We will look into other options. Later from Texas.

Another tip on these fridges is to use the front leveling feet to tilt the fridge slightly back from level. This will keep the water draining to the back and help with water dripping from your ice/water dispenser. Make sure you fully thaw (or de-thaw if that's your thing) so the passages are clear for the water to escape.
omg . damn Samsung should take care of that fix or recall all of them. I'm looking for a new fridge now. MY current Whirpool gold model is 14 years old and starting to fluctuate on temps. I have thermometers in both the fridge and freezer. MY icemaker worked flawlessly for years only 1 time breaking down cause a plastic gear broke. ordered a new one for 100 bucks. like 4 screws and it's working since. Very good explanation on how to fix it though.
well i ll be a SOB !!! you fixed my fridge !!! its been a week since i did the entire process and damn i got NOOOOOOOOOOOO frost !! everything seems to be working like out of the factory !! and i had the part in 2days,, !!! dont know how to thank you !!!
Can I unplug wiring harness as desplayed. So now the ice maker will not work but will the water dispenser work as I have bought a counter top ice maker . We enjoy the convenience of getting a glass of water from the front of fridge. Rather windy explanation so will it work with ice maker disconnected?
I’ve been fighting this frig for almost six years I want to give it to the junk man along time ago, going to try this if it doesn’t work just going to rip ice maker out and use one in bottom freezer, by the way thank you for the video I’ve got my fingers crossed!!
Don't buy anything from Samsung... After years of trying every tip on You Tub to fix the ice buildup of the icemaker on my Samsung refrigerator, I called Samsung today 5/4/21, (1-800-Samsung) and received a full replacement of my “out of warranty” refrigerator’s icemaker and related components, purchased in 2018, at no cost to me. @@johnholborn7590 I hope more Samsung refrigerator owners see your post! Thanks for your comment, hopefully Samsung can also do me and others a solid too by fixing this garbage. I have a 2017 and have had a frozen ice maker for 3 of the 4 years. edited: contacted Samsung via chat on their site and they are sending out a tech in about a week for service on the ice maker. My refrigerator is not under warranty but this is said to be no cost service for the repair.
My extended warranty ran out this June. I've been ignoring the horrible ice box problem, but now that its wicked hot out had no choice but to try and fix this. So we spent the entire 1/2 Saturday fixing the it. We took it all apart, ordered the part from Amazon and sealed it all up no light shinning through and put the new plastic rectangle and the little clips on, as the video explained. Just turned the fridge on and will be crossing my fingers, hoping for regular ice, without it freezing in clumps. Will update.
Thanks so much, very helpful! It seems someone else has done previously. When I took it apart, I noticed that the styrofoam for the clip kit is just starting to crumble a bit. The clip bracket is in tight, and it’s in tact, but wondering, is there’s anything more I should do?
The top part (in the video around 2 minutes into this video) fell down into the ice maker and I can't get the tray out. How do I get that lifted up to get the tre
Great video. It summed up my issue exactly. I think I will try just caulking first, then, if I still get the water and the bottom of the ice maker building up ice still, I will order the part from Amazon. Thanks for the video, explanation and link to the flange part - fingers crossed for everyone trying to solve this issue.
The only information Samsung needed was the model number and serial number of my refrigerator. They were not concerned when I purchased it only where which was at Lowes. Fifteen minutes after the conclusion of that call I was contacted by Samsung’s service vendor to schedule a time for the replacement which will be this coming Monday 5/10/21. @@StevenMWilliams0317 Will do... When you call the Samsung number be prepared that you will be talking to an "off shore" customer service representative. The connection wasn't the best and there was minor language issues. It took four or five times for the representative to get my refrigerator's model and serial number correct. Be patient and persistent it worth it! good luck.
@@StevenMWilliams0317 Repair team (two technicians) came today and attacked my refrigerator. They replaced all components of the ice making unit plus the mother board; all in roughly an hour. They shared with me that they have a number of teams all focused on replacing Samsung ice maker units on my particular refrigerator. We’ll see if the fix works!
Wow, excellent video. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us. Thanks too for the details. You are a great instructor/presenter and video clear and details. thanks again for your time!

Glad you got your ice back!
its been 2 years since this comment, how long did it take before it iced back up? cuz we all know it did
same here, i did the fixes that were on the tube 2years ago, same issue. called samsung they sending a guy on in a couple days. let them sort it out. doesnt matter if out of warranty they lost a class action lawsuit. so everyone will get this fixed for free
I was hopeful as well but Samsung told me that there is no recall so they're asking for $140 visit + at least $60 labor + the parts 😞
So happy. Thank you!
No problem, glad you can get the most out of your refrigerator without spending big bucks!
If not, this video is a great resource and I'll wait to do the service when we don't have the fridge full of food.
yeah, kids always going in the fridge. makes sense
No problem! Glad that you got the issue resolved!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video, Samsung should be paying you for showing consumers how to fix their defective appliance
Thanks, its great just to give honest reviews so people can have more purchasing power!
You're welcome, I hope the fix worked for you.
Excellent.
Glad to help!
Good call, thanks!
Did it work?
Thank you very much for making the video and also linking the stuff you used in your description. For anyone who follows this video it 100% works. My ice maker used to drip water before dispensing ice, and would freeze over every 3 - 5 days, and I would have to scrape and melt all the stuff off. Now, it's completely functional and hasn't frozen over at all.
Thanks a lot!
No problem, happy to know that this helped you!
I've watched an absurd number of these Samsung ice machine videos, and this one is the best. Thanks man!
Glad to help!
So glad that resolved your issue, happy ice making!
Update? Trying to decide if it's worth the trouble.
Thank you 1000 times for this video. Everything went exactly as you show and I finally get good ice and there is zero condensation freezing up inside my icemaker.
Awesome, happy to help!
de-thaw is literally freezing,great video,thank you
lol I kept thinking that too. I was like it's just thawed, or defrosted.
Lol... Was looking for this comment. Thank you
yes, Excellent video but very aggravating to hear De-Thaw over and over again .. At least he didn't use Irregardless . :)
I watch this video and take a drink everything he says "dethaw".
Hope you were able to resolve your issue!
Thanks for the video. This fix worked great. Result -- a bin full of ice and no ice buildup at all on the underside of the maker. Awesome! Now we love our Samsung fridge again!
That's great to hear, thanks for watching and commenting!
That's great to hear. Glad you get them to fix it for you!
That is great to hear. I've heard mixed results in the comments about getting repairs done.
I called them about mine and they want 140.00 just to come and look at it
Really appreciate the video. Been dealing with this for the past couple of years and fixed it with the part replacement you recommended! It’s been going on one month now and no frost on the ice machine so it is doing it’s job. Thank you!
You're welcome, happy to help!
ive just watched this video and it is a great video to fix or minimize this probem, i have also a samsung fridge,im in canada and when i called samsung they just denied that there was any issue with icemaker, they were unwilling to do anything as fridge was a year out of warranty,i think that this is completely unnacceptable. in the usa samsung may have adopted a different attitude based upon many comments on this post.in canada they have not, if you can just go on any of the bigbox sites and post negative reviews of the fridge, at least it can alert potential buyers of the pitfalls of this fridge, which is what ive done, this is just poor engineering and i agree with one posters comments which say,"you should not have to do this on a 2k fridge cost" yes its great to have the video and i found it very comprehensive, but unless we speak with our wallets companies like samsung will continue to turn out crap-designed products. thankyou to walt for the fix post
No problem, hope it works for you!

Hopefully this works and you don't have to keep defrosting every six weeks!
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. I’ve had to thaw it out last month and it’s making the ice hitting fan noise again. Bummer
That's not so bad. Most appliances will need some maintenance if you're getting a decades use out of them. Thanks for the tips!
Great how to video. I called Samsung today and they are covering the repair.

No problem, glad you got it resolved!
Thanks!
You did a great job explaining the process, wish the camera was focused on what you were explaining.
Yeah, that's a really tough place to get the camera in for filming, but thanks for watching and the feedback!
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together! It was exactly what I needed to get our ice maker working. Brilliant!

Thank you, and sorry to hear that even the new models are still having issues. Good luck!
The same thing happened to me. I dismantled it all the way and found the exact new parts were already installed at the factory. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've had really good runs where I don't have any issues for over a year, but once in a while I get the FREEZE. Very good explanation of how to get in there deep. Thanks!
THANK YOU! This was the most informative and perfectly detailed DIY video I've seen in a long time! I appreciate your efforts!
Thank you for this video, i really struggled getting the motor out, I recommend patience, a hair dryer and listening to this video step by step :D
The hair dryer is not recommended. The plastic is very thin and the little room allows the heat to rise quickly. If you warp the plastic, it can not be repaired.
No problem!

Thanks, it was making me crazy having to defrost that thing every couple of weeks. It's a simple fix, and I've been good for a month so far.
Great video!
We have had these steps done by a technician but issue continued, also had the box replaced to no avail.
So many people have had issues with these darn ice makers!
Thanks for this video, I have to give kuddos to you for figuring this out, I stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago because people usually hate this refrigerator and never wanted to pay the bill to fix it anyway
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the Video, i will be doing this next week while on vacation. I got tried of trying to defrost the ice maker and bought ice trays for ice.

Good Job brother, good video and explanation of the problem. I was ready to use it for target practice with explosive ammo. :)
Ha, that does sound like fun. Hope you were able to resolve this and save a bit of money!
Great video, really solid explanation of everything...except please "thaw" or "defrost" - dethaw hurts my head.
Me too! I'm like no no no!
Dethawing your head could give you severe brain freeze!
Nice job! One thing I did as well is I put some tubular insulation in the white rubber seal between the ice dispenser and the door to make a better seal. That way air doesn’t get into the ice box.
That's a great idea!
Pretty sure there is a screw on the main unit on mine on the 4:51 upper right side. Pressing the tab is not releasing it for me and I can see a screw up there that would need an offset screw driver to remove.
One of the better repair examples for this ridiculous ice maker. Thanks
Good video , do you happen to know the codes (on the front panel) to put fridge. In a defrost ,so I don’t have to turn fridge off.
Sorry, I don't know that off the top of my head.
HA! I'm blind, I just saw the link you posted just up above! I just placed my order! thanks!!
:) No problem
You're very welcome, but your video sounds a lot more exciting! Share that link if you ever do the tannerite fix🙂
@@waltsreviews90 lol, if I fail doing what you did there's a good possibility I will be making the Tannerite video for you and Samsung.
Seriously the best explanation. You saved me a ton of headaches!
Thanks, glad to help!

What is the new Samsung p/n for that little plastic piece with the extended dripping ledge. ?
Very, very clear explanation and instruction with great video and diction.
One point. Dethaw - never heard that term, but know what you meant.
"A confusing conjunction of "defrost" and "thaw". Has a corresponding etymology to unthaw. Literally it means to refreeze, however, it has never actually been used correctly in conversation. Ever. In fact, it is always used to mean the opposite- a synonym for thaw. Just say thaw, not dethaw, not unthaw, just thaw."
Thank you.
Thanks, glad the video helped!
Good video! I have thawed mine out several times with a warm hair dryer....never had any issues.
Thank you so much you were the first understandable person I've seen on this, I won't need going further
Thanks Billy, glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the video! I’m going to give it a try! Can you force defrost with the tray in? There is so much ice that we cannot pull the tray out.
Yes, you can defrost with the tray in.
empty the tray via the dispenser. then turn off ice maker.
I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. My unit was out of warranty by over 3 years and I told them I hadn't had ice for almost 2 years and tried everything short of replacing it to get it to work. PS: the new unit has a heater in it to stop ice build up.

Any updates about this repair? Has it been working okay? About to do all of this with my almost identical Sam-dung fridge.
Hi, most comprehensive video I have seen yet on this issue, just wish I could find the force defrost setting in my UK machine as it doesn’t seem to work! What is the little repair kit called and where do you buy it? Thanks
It’s called a hammer. Samsung products and there customer service is a load of JUNK
Thanks for the video my man. Will give it a try when the wife and kids are out of the house. BTW De-Thaw means freeze. :-)
No worries! And old habits die hard, I'll probably keep saying dethaw till I die lol
Exactly what’s happening for over a year with ours. Learned a new word, too! De-thaw ;-) Thanks
Thanks, I bought this Samsung model new frig in 2017 and it is ok so far. In 2018 My daughter bought the same model and has water leaks from the ice maker. Samsung quoted a Prepaid service quote of $400. Yikes. We will look into other options. Later from Texas.
No problem, hope you were able to get the issue resolved.

I will give it a try and hopefully we will have no more ice issues.

Have you had success with the repair ?
Another tip on these fridges is to use the front leveling feet to tilt the fridge slightly back from level. This will keep the water draining to the back and help with water dripping from your ice/water dispenser. Make sure you fully thaw (or de-thaw if that's your thing) so the passages are clear for the water to escape.
lol de-thaw
Great idea, thanks for sharing!
omg . damn Samsung should take care of that fix or recall all of them.
Thank you!
well i ll be a SOB !!! you fixed my fridge !!! its been a week since i did the entire process and damn i got NOOOOOOOOOOOO frost !! everything seems to be working like out of the factory !! and i had the part in 2days,, !!! dont know how to thank you !!!
That's awesome, good work. I gave the advice, but you actually fixed it! Glad to help 🙂
Did you try it? Is this working?!
No problem, hope it worked for you.
As an old AC appliance tech, the first time I saw an ice maker in the fresh food area, I knew my refrig days were soon over!
Have been having this issue forever, thanks for the video.
Apparently, Samsung has finally realized the problem with this refrigerators ice maker and now honoring replacement, regardless of the products age, at no charge to the customer.

Hi Nicole, so after 2 month, did the fix work ?
Did you get the issue resolved?
She probably didn't
Thank you for the video. It’s awesome.
Do you have a link for the replacement of plastic flange? I cannot find on the Samsung Page. Thanks
Never mind I saw it in the description. Thanks again
Excellent step-by-step video and explanation!
Thank you!

How did you keep food in your fridge when you powered it off/put it in defrost mode? Or kept the door open to use the hair dryer?
Where can I get that Samsung 'special part" that you installed to the back of the ice maker at? Do you have a link to it?
