Informative video, but Samsung just made sure I will never own another Samsung refrigerator.
Happened across this video several months ago. Ordered the respective parts for my hated samsung refrigerator and followed this video to replace the guts of a terribly engineered ice maker. Thank you! Checked last night and still frost free months after repairing!
MASSIVE thank you for this, because this fridge is heinously complicated compared to what I'm used to
Exactly the one and only video I needed to watch on my 2018 IceMaker problem. thanks bud !
Thanks so much for spending the time and energy to create, produce and post this really helpful video. We live out in the country, and it's really hard to get any repair folks out here. We've learned how to fix tons of stuff because service folks don't want to drive that 25 miles (even if we pay them?). Ordering parts today. We'll see how it goes! (Wouldn't have tried it without you!)
Thanks so much for making this very thorough video!!! It was a huge help and I'm hoping to finally have a normally functioning ice maker instead of a frozen mess thanks to your video!
Great info! I was about to attempt this repair... but I contacted Samsung first. They sent out a tech who put in a new improved version of the ice maker free of charge. Way to go Samsung!!!
Hi, was your refrigerator still under warranty?
Thanks for this video. It was very informative and comprehensive. Also, you have a great radio voice, one that tells me everything is going to be okay!
Solved the problem, mine has been icing up for as long as I've owned my Samsung. Followed the steps described in this video and my ice maker has been trouble free for several weeks. The steamer is the right tool for the job. Don't try anything else. I have a slightly different model than shown in the video, so the part numbers were a little different. I used a google search to find the part numbers. The process was the same and video really helped out. I get a little kick now every time I use the icemaker. Thank you.
I had this done when the fridge was still under warranty. The fix lasted about a year and it started to ice up again. I then ran across a post that said that the ice maker was re-designed a second time and this one was supposed to be the real deal. I confirmed that the part number was actually a newer number. Since it was no longer under warranty I bought the kit again replaced it all and it lasted another year before it started to frost up again.
So if you are looking for a permanent fix here is what you do. Throw the Samsung unit out and buy a different refrigerator.
yep, same experience here
Thanks for sharing. i was wondering if all of this was worth it. I've had my ice maker replaced and various pieces...sealed with silicon, sealed again with hvac tape, etc... nothing has worked for me. Now I need a control board v2 lol? Or set the temp of the fridge to 36F? All of these seem to be temporary fixes that prolong the inevitable.
Thank you thank you - Really appreciated all the detail, especially showing the difference between the new and old version of the parts (saved me some headaches when I received a 'new' kit part that was clearly the same as the original).
Beyond that - the fix has been working flawlessly...not sure what exactly did it, but I'm just so glad to pull out that (full) ice tray and not see a speck of frost or ice build-up ANYWHERE inside that ice maker chamber...it's heavenly. Many many thanks!
Fantastic video! Thank you so much!
I read lots of comments of people asking for the kits #s; he listed all on the description of video. Look carefully, pay attention, don’t waste the guy’s time, don’t look foolish.
Thank you!!. Detailed video that gave me confidence to remove all removable parts! Did not change anything, just cleaned it up from ice and put it back together. Will see how long this clean up lasts. Thanks again!
I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. My unit was out of warranty by over 3 years and I told them I hadn't had ice for almost 2 years and tried everything short of replacing it to get it to work. I think they realize they had a faulty unit and needed to stay ahead of any class action that in the conversation on the internet. Now I'm happy, happy, happy! Thank you Samsung, you really shined!
Thank you so much! You video helped me so much. I live in Jamaica so we dont have access to experienced repair techs all the time. 26:24 I did have trouble installing the auger back into the fridge. What I ended up doing was taking a metal straw and putting it down the drip hole and just wiggling it back and forth until it slipped right in. It also let me know it wasn't lined up properly since the straw pushed out as i pushed the auger in. Thank you again for all your help!
Great how to fix video. Thanks
Thanks for all of this info & explanations! Serial numbers aren't provided for the long list of other models are they?!?
Hello! This video was extremely helpful for us. However, after we replaced all parts (including the control board) the water no longer worked. We had to put the original board back in and now it all works!! We just did it yesterday so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we don’t have any more issues. But thank you for this very informative video!
Hi - thank you for making this video which was very detailed and informative. I have Samsung model RF28R6201SR/AA and was wondering what the parts are that I need? Do I need the whole kit or just certain parts and if possible please provide the part numbers that are needed as my ice maker freezes up and then I have to defrost it. Thanks!
Excellent video. Thanks so much!
Loved the video, very informative and straight forward. I have an RF22KREDB. APRIL 2016 so I believe I don’t need the control panel. What is the kit # without that?
Great video my model was built in September 2015, RF28HMEDBSR/AA
S/N 065L43BG903871P. We have been fighting this issue for along time thanks
Hello, i have the same model # as yours do you know what parts are needed to fix this issue.? Thanks
Great video 👍🏽👍🏽 .. my water dispenser flows very slow? Do you have an idea what I can check out? It’s and 4 door refrigerator with screen
Thank you for the help with my Samsung
Very helpful video. Do you have the link for your video that applies to the RF23HCEDB models?
This helped me Tremendously! thank you!
Thankful for your video! What symptoms indicate you need a new control board? I have a 2014 rf28hmedbsr
I enjoy the whole video. You explain the problem very well from detail to detail. I have a new one. But my old one is a ge just like the one in this video. But there is a different problem, do you have video on other fringes, if so maybe you can help me out. Mine is about 15y old. I seen a video on like the one l have but l louse
Thanks for the info....great video....gonna give it a try!
Thank you for the helpful video and information. I purchased the service kit, DA82-02675A. Instead of including DA97-15217D, it included DA97-15217B. I’m unable to find information as to whether or not these two are interchangeable. Any insight?
Thank you for the video it helps a lot God bless
Finally a solution to this problem, I can't remember how many of these I've thawed?
I know it was plenty for me as well. Going back over and over to the same one's with an extended warranty until they replaced it.
Great video! I came across this video because my relative has this issue however it is made May of 2019 so I guess no parts will fix it from what I gather from this video. The model is RF24R7201SG/AA. Ice maker works just gets froze up and can’t get the bucket out
Thanks for posting this. Very helpful. What will happen if we just swap the ice maker and not the circuit board?
Parts arrived. When I got to the Auger motor the original skinny tube and heater wire were surrounded by custom block of Styrofoam. I tried cutting out for the bigger diameter drain hose in the Sytrofoam, but eventually gave up and just removed it. Likewise I had to drill a hole on one side to route a cable tie. FYI: Drain did not come with a cable tie. I had plenty of my own though. I didn't have a mirror to check the input water tube. I tried using my smartphone on selfie as the camera is at the top but just couldn't get it so again the heck with it. Did the silicone around the edges. Everything is back together. We ended up buying a large ice chest and putting everything in the frig into it. Left the door and freezer alone. Frig is 55 degrees and freezer is 0 degrees and cooling. I'll give it a day and then a couple weeks and update you. Thank you so much for your You Tube.
Well I hate to say this, but the ice box went from bad to worse after all that work. I saw another You Tube that used aluminum tape instead of the silicon adhesive. I thought I was thorough with silicon. Oh well. Another day of work.
Same issues as everyone else with the ice maker freezing! Force defrost about every three weeks! But last week we noticed the food in the freezer getting more and more soft, poured the ice cream out! Took everything out and removed back panel and the coils were bone dry! Took back panel off and cleaned condenser, checked drain tubes, etc. everything was great except the compressor high and low side did not appear as cold or hot as they should’ve been! Refrigerator still cools to 35, but everything else is 67 (middle drawer and freezer). Ordered a 134a kit to refill Freon, but after seeing your video, would it be the mother board?
Model: RF30KMEDBSR/AA
Serial Number: 08EB43AJC00020L
Samsung automatically assumed the issue and declined sending a tech as “it’s out of warranty!
Hello,
Thanks for your video! It was very informative...
I have a Samsung RF8000MC refrigerator and need the service kit for the Ice Maker.
I have looked in your description and online but cannot find one.
Could you please let me know the right product for this model?
Very informative, i have a Sept 2017 side by side and my ice maker keeps freezing up. I did a thaw and removed ice maker to change out clips and the flange thingy. However my unit already had that up grade in place. There does not seem to be and light blead into the ice maker so nothing to seal. Tried to remove the motor but could not get if fully out, is there a trick with this model. And finally does my unit require the new motherboard? my S/N is 08HT43BJ900141P REV 2. thanks for any help you could give.
Regards Kevin
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have seen many over the years but yours is the most detailed and informative of any of them. I’ve had my Samsung refrigerator since 2014. I’ve gone through this process about 1/2 a dozen times and it is so aggravating. I wasn’t aware of the updated kit that was available. I had already taken care of all the air gaps with silicone and replaced that rectangle ring with the Y clips but it just happened again after about a year and a half. I’m ready to do the rest of the retro if that will help. I see you are still producing the vid for my model. It’s pretty much the same as the one in this vid. I’m wondering if you can let me know the kit# I need for it
Model: RF25HMEDBSR/AA
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Thanks. This is a great video. I have this exact problem with a RF23HCEDBSR/AA-02. In your description you mentioned you had a video in progress. I have done the silicone sealing. There were already Y-clips installed. Also did a forced defrost and made sure it was completely dry in there. Still had issues after a month so I'm back at it by ordering a new ice maker, the DA97-13718C / AP6261444 From appliance parts pros. Hopefully this fixes the issue- but wondering if I need a new control board or any thing else too. Any help would be appreciated!
Your video is the most straightforward ,informative and detailed . Thank you sir for sharing
My pleasure
@@BeardedApplianceRepair did you forgot to tell you how to reset the control panel after replacing the PCB? is that something or not? thanks
Great video and explanations, I have a Samsung model RF28JBEDBSG with a manufactured
date of Mar 2017 and I can't find the drain tube to purchase, I wished I had watched your video first before I purchased the Ice Maker and the y Clips kit, I wasn't aware that made a kit for replacement of the ice maker. Do you have or know where I get the correct drain tube? As that is the only thing holding up from instal installation.
My Samsung 4 door was made in 2017. After months of defrosting, I finally got Samsung to come out and they replaced the ice maker around 2022. Seemed okay for about 3-4 months then started forming ice again. I also had ice forming in the bottom of my fridge area and water leaking from the ice maker or ice maker schute and leaking on to our floor and the puddle on our tile floor damaged our new kitchen cabinet at the floor. Samsung came out again and the technicians worked on the fridge again, removed the icemaker and via a zoom call, a third technician said that since I used a hair dryer to melt the ice, that they would not repair. Put the icemaker back and said good luck and goodbye. Will never buy another Samsung product. If they would have just replaced that little gasket on the coil and added some silicon, i believe that would have fixed it for good. Great video. Now I need to decide if I just want to dump this fridge or fix it myself.
great video upset me to learn I didn't purchase everything I need to fix this issue so it will have to wait for another week or so. In the description you list the rest of the models for my particular model it says production next to it. Can you or any one else clear up what that means. Do I need to new circuit board or can I just replace the maker, drain tube, install the clips and seal up the cracks? Thank you again for all you do.
Great Video! Could you please help mw with the kit number? I have an RF32FMQDBSR Manufactured October 2015, but Geek Squad did some modification to the thermostat where they moved it a bit as a fix. They also replaced the ice maker twice. Thank You.
I got one of these refrigerators with a house I bought and I have been having problems with icing up. I watched your entire video and pulled mine apart to take a look if anything obvious is wrong. My model number is RF23M8070SG/AA and date of mfr is April 2018 so this is one that should have kit DA82-02638A installed.
However what I found is mine has the Y clips on the evaporator tubes so that got me wondering, how can I tell if mine already had a kit installed? Did some come with the Y clips and still have problems? The ice maker has a date label of 2018-04-02 and DA97-18859A which makes me think it does not have the kit installed.
Great video, I have model number RF263BEAESG, SN 0AJC4BBGC00755N, what replacement parts will I need, I love the refrigerator but hate having to defrost every other week to keep the ice maker usable.
Great video we have a broken icemaker too. Model RF23J9011SG manufactured Dec. 2016 S/N 07ZB43BHC00161W can you recommend the correct rebuild kit thank you
great > and it help a lot >I Have same issue model RF25HMEDBSR/AA 10 > used the same kit or different part number ? thank you
I have a 28cf Samsung French door with icemaker problem. My clip on the left side of icemaker won’t move to release the cover over the condenser. What’s the trick to allow the cover to move down to get the icemaker out? Your video was so excellent! Ty looking forward to your advice. RF 28k9070SG/AA is my model
Great video. Out with the old and in with the new. However it has been almost 24 hours now and still no ice being made. Can it take that long before making ice? BTW my buttons to push to start defrost mode were Freezer/Lighting then Lighting x3 to Fd (forced defrost). After defrost cycle of about 30 minutes with annoying beep the whole time. The turn off/on fridge sequence is pressing the Freezer/Alarm/Fridge buttons for 5-10 sec. My Samsung model is RF26J7500.
Great informative video. I was given a Samsung RF23J9011SR/AA 07 Serial number 07GG43BH301465T Mfg. date March 2016. It was in a short term vacation rental and the owner did not want to mess with the freezing ice maker anymore. It appears this is a fixable problem and I am hoping I can fix it. I am a little unclear after watching your video and reading the text below if I need the complete repair kit as you showed installing and which one. Any help and clues on this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Tommy
I have a RF28HFEDB fridge having the same issues as described in the video, your list shows “production” is that up to date or are there parts available? Thank you in advance.
Great Video !! THANKS for sharing. I have a Samsung Model # RF24FSEDBSR/AA SS# W65043BD600521K, WHAT KIT DO I NEED?
This is a great video! I have had Samsung come out to repair this issue at least 6 times and each time they came out the problem became worse and worse. Now I have water melting from the ice maker into the dispenser chute, of Course it melts, then if you dispense the ice, a bunch of water comes out then the ice which looks half melted. Samsung gave up and supposedly is refunding me because they say my icemaker is unrepairable. (I have yet to see the check from Samsung. I didn't see my model listed below, and want to confirm that the parts replaced were the correct ones, or maybe they were improperly installed. I have is RF24J9960S4/AA. From the video it sounds like the problem I am having may be due to the fan not circulating properly, or a leak, or maybe the supply tube alignment. Samsung replaced the control board twice and the ice maker 4 times in the past 2-3 years. The last time was in March 2023. The first time was in 2018. I remember the first technician applying the food grade silicone, because he said that this compartment is notorious for leaking. After the icemaker was replaced for the first time, the problem appeared to be fixed. Since then every repair was worse and the time in between the issue got shorter and shorter. One question I have. Is it possible, if they put the incorrect control board in, would everything work but the ice maker not chilling properly, or the defrost mode in the ice maker not set properly? If the fridge is not balanced properly, could this cause the ice chamber to not seal to the door? I have checked the door gasket and even added backer rod under the gasket to insure a real tight seal. It seems like this should be an easy fix, but I still cannot determine the cause. Do you have any idea, or know the kit number for my fridge? Thank you.
Hello, my husband purchased this same (fairly new) fridge from a appliance store he found online. And I love it, for being a used fridge with plastic still on it. But my question is, does the ice suppose to be falling inside the top drawer of the freezer?
Great video I have a RF263BEAESR/AA 04 June 2016 S/N JKJ44BBH600469K What kit do I need; do I need to replace the mother; and how long does it take for the silicone to dry/set. Thank you
great video best i have seen on this , i have a model RF32FMQDBSR S/N W76643BD502087 J my ice maker has been freezing up for years i defrost it with a blow dryer probably 2 times a month the last time i used a heat gun and it stopped filling the tray with water i tried a reset not sure if i could have cooked something if i didnt i would love to do the repair and what parts i should get
Ordered the parts for my RF28HDEDBSR/AA. Operation went pretty much exactly as described by in his video. Hardest part for me was pulling out the auger motor. I think it was iced in back. I thought I could do this without a steamer (though for the most part I did), but I borrowed the neighbor's steamer to melt around the auger, and after some muscle, it finally came out. Assembly was easy.
One week later, no icing up at all so far. Thanks BeardedApplianceRepair.
@resarfekim
I have the same model number.
Do you have a kit number.
I'm confused, my model number shows between 12/2015 To 12/2018 (GC To KC)
But Date of Manufacture shows AUG. 2015
How do you remove the ice maker initially to do the repair? I cannot figure out what to push to release it from where it is. Thank you.
Could you please verify the part kit for RF28HDEDBSR, oct 2014 . Best video I have seen on this problem! Thanks
Don;t forget to tell folks about the door flap Cover for the ice chute. I found that leaking air creating a lot of frost in the ice maker. I cleaned it so the seal was air tight and put in the y clips and surround and all was well
Is this the rubber piece on the door where the ice comes out? Mine is clean so I have no idea if it's leaking air or not.
have you made a video for RF28K9380SG AA ? I think ours was built in 2016. We purchased late 2016 and installed into kitchen remodel in 2017. But we have a chronic issue with our ice maker freezing over. I use a hair dryer usually to defrost but have used a steamer too.
Hi. I found the correct model on this, but the year is well after when it says in the description. I have RF28JBEDBSG manufactured in Sep. of 2017. Which parts would I need?
Can you please advise what parts I will need for model RF28hmelbsr/aa
HI, thank you for your video. my refrigerator model is RF323TEDBSR/AA and i can find the parts. could you help me?.
Great video. I've been having problems for over 1 year now. I have model # RF28HDEDBSR/AA with Serial #06EC43F901308Z. Please let me know what parts this unit needs to be replaced so it works without me having to defrost the ice maker every month. Thank you so much.
What temperature should i put my fridge at maybe to help the ice maker built up
Hello, this video on the Samsung top Ice maker is the best I have seen. I have a Samsung RF323TEDBSR made in March of 2013. Will I need a kit with a board? Can you tell me what kit I need? I also have water leaking under the crisper tray and need the new heater metal clip.
Thank you very much 😊
What's that metal rod/fitting on the end of your steamer nozzle? I ordered the same steamer from Amazon, but it's not on the parts list.
Thank you for putting this video out. I have a model RF28HDEDBSR/AA
Serial# 06EC43AG902739K Made Sept 2015 A parts supplier told me I needed icemaker DA97-15217D is that correct? My model says Production on your list not sure what that means? I read that the "D" on the icemaker means that it's the newest version? Also is it safe to assume that the "Y" clips and drain tube are universal to all models?
I have fridge model RF28HFEDTSR/AA (8th and 9th digits are H5) and I don't see any links to which repair parts I need. Is this something you can tell me?
Thanks for the great video. Model number RF28HMEDBWW, manufactured in July 2016. Would appreciate any information you could share before I order the wrong parts to repair this icemaker problem. Thank you for your assistance. Jim Johnson
I just put the ice maker on defrost for about 2 hours. It took care of the problem. So far after 1 month and still working good.
How do you put the ice maker only on to defrost?
And any additional info or videos to watch theto make my repairs, thnx
Very Informative! I have model RF28R7351SG/AA Serial # OB2E43BMA07121B. What kit should I order? Can I get by without ordering circuit board? Technicians have been out twice to repair and neither have been successful. After watching your video I want to give it a try. Also what is Ice Bucket P/N? It took a beating getting out. Thanks in advance.
Great video. It convinced me to fix my ice build up once and for all. Please provide part numbers for Samsung RF28HMEDDBSR/AA
AUG 2014 Rev 3.
S/N 065L43BF808807V
Mine was nov 2019 mine might be ok? Idk should just get everything replaced
This is a known issue. Chat with Samsung customer support. They will send out a local qualified technician and order you parts for free. Mine is doing mine now. Says he does 15 a week. Don’t use a hair dryer to defrost anything. He says people do that a lot. I took out my food left the doors open and used a mug of water that I kept microwaving over and over to speed up the process.
Hi There. What a wonderful video. Presently, I am facing an ice maker problem. My model is RF28HFEDBSR/AA. Do I need the whole kit or just part of it? Where can I acquire this kit? Thanks a million. Nilton

My Samsung fridge needs this repair.
My model # is RF28HMEDBSR
Serial# 065L43AH900775K
Mfg date Sep 2016
From reading your description mine doesnt need the kit... so its just the ice maker, drain tube, y clips, and the silicon? No motherboard required for "AH" date code?
I have a unit identical to the you showed, but was purchased in the last few years. Shortly after changing the water filter, the ice maker stopped producing ice. It did have a build up of frost/ice that I cleared up with a steamer. My question is, if it does not start to make more ice, do you think this kit would correct the problem. Have already spoke with Samsung and they want to send a service tech out for a $200 diagnostic fee that doesn’t go towards repair. My S/N is 0B2F43BR200912L and model is RF28R7351SR. Thank for any assistance and thank you for your time with making such an in depth video
