I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your video saved me an expensive service call. I had to run the “force defrost” cycle twice last night before the bin would come unstuck enough to be pulled out. I hit the reset button and went to bed. I woke up to ice in the bin, and thankful for it. Your servant heart to help others is greatly appreciated. May your day be blessed!
Great video with tons of correct information. It is also important to know that a class action lawsuit was won against Samsung in Florida based on faulty icemakers. If you can not get it to work, Samsung will send out a repair person to replace the ice maker free of charge. Once that has failed twice, you may demand a refund or a replacement of the refrigerator. Keep up the great videos!!
They are TERRIBLE, actual Samsung Beyond initial first call. After call to the Philippines you'll deal with American workers who just don't want to do anything. I hate Samsung
In my experience, Samsung is terrible. We had this exact problem, it took six weeks to finally get them to send a tech to our house, which was supposed to be free of charge, and then they claimed that it was my fault because there was “physical damage” to the unit. I ran up as far as I could on the supervisor chain in customer service, and they basically refused to do anything. I will never give them any more money on their appliances.
This is such a coincedence, our ice maker just went out last night, and I'm not kidding. We've had the refrigerator for over 3-years and I should've bought the extended warranty. We have the LG, I'm happy to see that I am able to fix this myself, I am going broke hiring people to do things around the house. I am a new subscriber, your channel (this video) is so valuable. I want to see more from you and hope you keep making videos again!
Thank you very much for the informative video! Just what we needed. This will be the LAST Samsung fridge we buy. And we have a Samsung washer dryer that we’ll be replacing too. This is just pisspoor design all around.
Same here... Finally junked our Samsung washer/dryer (which were very expensive). We are limping through what feels like the last days of our very expensive Samsung refreg/freezer. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
Great news. We purchased out $2700 samsung fridge in 2015. The ice maker has been a constant headache. I heard on a blog that samsung is now offering warranty replacement o your poorly designed ice maker. I called the 1-800-samsung number, gave them my serial number and model numbers and sent some pics. I am scheduled for a complete replacement of the etire icemaker, drawer, mother board and other items all covered under warranty, It is worth a try
My fridge was purchased in 2014 - constant problems with the ice maker and other issues too (like inside fridge temp going up to 65 deg!) Samsung replaced ice maker under warranty - in August 2017. Then in Jan 2018 - frozen ice maker again. Then they not only replaced the icemaker but also a wiring panel in the back of the fridge. Solved the problem. Now April 2024 - ice maker stopped working. I noticed the air flow vent at bottom of unit is hanging down on left side - can't push it back up. Must be water leaked into it and is frozen because I can't push it back up. Drying the defrost cycle.
I have problems over and over again and use the video above to fix it to at least get ice. The damn thing keeps leaking tho so I have to keep a towel in the water/ice tray on the outside. I 100% will never own another Samsung appliance again. I bought all Samsung when I upgraded. Huge mistake.
Thank you! Bought a house with a Samsung fridge. After being here a few says I realized the ice maker didn't work. But I couldn't even figure out how to get the ice maker tray to come out. So I decided it was frozen shut. Then it took me a while to find the right video. You explained it so well that my ice maker defrosted after 20 minutes and I was able to get the ice bucket out along with a big chunk of ice. 😀
I’ve been running that defrost mode over 24 hours. Still couldn’t get the ice maker out till a little bit ago. It was full to the top with a frozen blob. I hate this Samsung. I got the rear condensor thawed after thawing all day long. I’m not sure if I should fix it or not. I’ll probably fix it because I’m so mad. I miss my old Kenmore in the garage. Never one issue in 12 years. Thank you for your excellent videos.
SUCCESS ! thanks for the help. my issue was, water works, you can hear the auger spinning but no ice comes out. Have had the fridge for around 2-3 years but never defrosted it. I have tried pulling it out in the past but it always seemed stuck. Spent a whole Saturday defrosting the ice box and using a hair dryer (on medium mode) to try warm it enough and eventually I saw the dripping water. (GET SOME TOWELS !) then between hair drying and jamming big knives around it for leverage, it eventually popped out. What a great feeling =) gotta have my ICE ! Then probably a couple more hours chipping away at the ice near the back and sides. Turned the ice maker back on and BOOM, around 3 hours later, full ice bucket! One tip that may not be in your video, when you put it back in it wont go all the way unless you flip the WHITE ice stopper (leg) thingy at the chute to the open position then it clicks in place. Do this by turning the metal rod at the back of the ice bucket then hold the white Leg part (by the chute) then it will slide all the way to the back. Also I -thankfully- didnt have to defrost the top ice maker machine. I was worried about that. After defrosting it, that's all I needed to get ice flowing again. For others, you may need to defrost the actual ice maker at the very top. Other than this, the fridge has been wonderful. And will check this part of it every year i think to avoid a recurrence. Good luck from Canada y'all! Oh, also, I called them for support and the dude just said, "ya gotta defrost it" so I did !
Thank you so much for posting this video! My Samsung refrigerator came with the house, and I had continuous problems with the ice bucket freezing up, but this time was unable to dislodge it. After running the forced defrost (I let it run 30 mins) it was easy to remove and only one piece of ice remained. Now I will regularly defrost, for a shorter time period. Only issue I had was I couldn't reset the keypad, so I flipped the breaker for a minute or two, now all is well!
Thank you so much!!! I had defrosted the ice maker a few days ago with a hairdryer, but couldn’t get the ice built up really close to the top of the ice tray. I performed the force defrost cycle and it ran for about 30-40 minutes. It shut off automatically. I then hit the reset button and within 30 minutes I heard ice hit the tray!!! Yay!! It’s working!!! Thank you again!!!
@@bzo218 yes- the button he refers to as the test button is the reset button. I have had to reset the ice maker before because it will stop producing ice.
@@moriartymatt34 when I performed the force defrost it took almost 40 minutes before it shut off. I’m guessing it may depend on how much ice buildup and how long it will beep. Just as an FYI, I performed the force defrost a few times over a month period and the ice maker would immediately freeze up again. so I called Samsung to see what could be done. They told me my warranty had already expired a few years ago, but I already knew that. I told the rep I was very disappointed and really like the fridge. I’m not sure why, but the rep said because I was a loyal customer ( I have several Samsung appliances) Samsung would send a tech out for FREE and replace the ice maker for FREE. So in August of this year, a tech came to my house, replaced the mother board and ice maker totally for FREE. I haven’t had any issues since. I recommend reaching out to Samsung. You have nothing to lose. :)
Absolutely one of the best RUclips instructional videos anywhere. Superb video, excellent narration, added graphics and tight editing makes this a 10+++. Ours is 3 years old but purchased the HD Extended Service Plan and I am calling them on Monday. These units are an unmitigated disaster and should be Class Action lawsuit in the making.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Unfortunately not yet in Canada. I had HD Extended Service Plan and tech was here 2 days ago with the Samsung Icemaker Repair Kit. I got up early and did 7 or 8 consecutive Forced Defrosts which he said was amazing as very few customers know how to do this. He was at another customer day before and it was a frozen iceberg and he told owner he needed to unplug it for 48 hours with doors open before he could start repair. Kit had new motherboard, icemaker, heated drain tube, 2 Y clips and rectangular gasket. He also did some minor siliconing. 2 months left on my ESP so hoping for best.
@@brianbaker359 Bad news, Brian. I had that done about 3 years ago (except he didn't change motherboard), and it still freezes up. I bought mine and THEN looked up the reliability rating (I know, stupid, right?). That convinced me to get the extended warranty thru Square Trade for $250 and I didn't regret it since I had them out multiple times. Now the warranty is expired, but I would rather fix it myself every month or two than to go thru the hassle of calling service out. I can tell when it's starting to freeze up by the loud popping sounds it makes, so I immediately either defrost or open it up and remove the ice dams inside. depending on how bad it is. I'll use it till it craps out then buy ABS (Anything But Samsung). Hope you have better luck.
@@riverraisin1 Apparently the new motherboard has updated software which extends the length of the automatic defrost time. Time will tell if these modifications work but I remain hopeful as they certainly have had lots of time to assess the problems and design a fix that works.
Thanks so much. Exactly what I needed to know. I was finally able to get the ice maker part out and found the works all frosted frozen over in a big chunk of ice keeping the machine from working. Removed the problem ice burg and fingers crossed it will start working actually make and dispense some ice now.....this whole fridge is living proof that the more complicated features a machine has, the more problems it will have!
I see your comment is from a year ago but I'm working on mine today for the first time trying to pull it out and with the instructions being very clear I'm not able to push that tab in enough to get it to pull out is there any solution just keep working on it? Maybe mine is still frozen up behind holding it in?
I have this exact same ice maker, fridge came with the house. Nothing but trouble for the past 2 years since day one. I once had to take the blow dryer to it, might have to again today.
Thank you sir, for taking the time to provide this video. Samsung should be doing it in light of the amount of people having problems. Hope your business prospers. Worked for me. I left it in Defrost Mode for about 20-30 minutes, and it returned normal function(screen) automatically.
Thank you so much. Your instructions worked perfectly and saved us an expensive service call. My ice maker had about 1.5 inches of ice built up on the top of the unit. I had to run this cycle 5 or 6 times, but it worked and melted all of the ice. Highly recommend this video.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. It fixed my problem. I did find it difficult to get the lower lip of the ice maker back up and secured with the single screw. You cannot have nay front on the cooing coil due the tight tolerances on the lower part where the rubber caps connect with the coil. Just make sure the coil is free of frost. you can run a quick Force Defrost on it and when it is clear and shiny you can secure the bottom of the ice maker without too mush pressure. I do not understand why we were problem free for 2.5 years then we ran into this problem. I think it had to do with the frequency of having the refrigerator door open and introducing higher temperatures + humidity getting into the ice box area. IDK.. Will watch this and maybe report back. Thanks again!
It seems that its an age problem that moisture starts building up, causing it to frost over as other parts degrade. I have a video or two about the drain kit + heater for evaporator panel. If you pull the panel and its heavily iced over, that can be an issue in parallel.
Thank you! I just defrosted the ice maker as you suggested. It took about 20-minutes for it to be loose enough for me to open the bin. (The bin was still tough to open!) I did not have to take anything out of the refrigerator. I cleared the ice and am currently waiting to see if it will start making ice again. Thanks again for the forced defrost info!
Thx for the Video. Got a newer model, still the same Problem. It's a shame that Samsung didn't provide such videos. I called them for the same problem, they couldn't help or would not like to help me. Worst Service ever. Never buy a Samsung refrigerator again... Thx again for the video. Your the best 😊. I hope Samsung recognize you.
I called them, when the filter light came on, they wanted to sell me filters at some stupid high price. Filter wasn't clogged, just some timer, i have a whole house filter. I found on youtube how to reset the filter timer. Just like this problem.
I'm not mechanical, so I was rather desperate to find something on the internet to help me through this icemaker disaster (no ice, I got the drawer out, looks like a giant slab of ice covering the top thingy) and fully expecting to not understand whatever instructions I found. This video, however, makes perfect sense...and when it's not 4:30 in the morning I'll actually attempt to resolve this problem. Wish me luck, Ben!
Top icemaker bin was frozen shut after 4 day power outage then two days power restoration when not at home. Defrost instructions worked great, exactly as described on the first try. The Samsung manual provides no clue how to do this. My only recourse would have been to unplug the refrigerator for several hours with the doors open and hope that might work. My sincere thanks to the video maker for putting this on RUclips.
Thank you! I was able to remove the ice maker cover and clear out the iceberg within prior to finding your instructible but your detailed video on replacing the whole unit is very helpful if that is the avenue I end up having to go down. Thanks!
@@oritbc4578 yeah I am trying it today myself and cannot get it to come out it looks like I'm pushing the clip insufficiently I'm just wondering if it's still frozen up behind or something holding it in I'm just going to keep messing with it all day hopefully I can get it. Did you ever get yours?
I’ve run the Forced Defrost twice for nine minutes each time and still no movement. I’m going to run it for twenty minutes this time, but it doesn’t seem like the top latch (that he pressed with needlenose pliers) is moving at all. Anyone get there’s open?
Dude this video was so helpful as far as taking apart/removing. Hoping the ice maker starts filling/making ice after the 24hr reset. Thank you again for sharing this!
You saved my refrigerator, I mean Ice master, Bens. There is no information how to fixing ice maker, even setting “Defrost” in Korea. Because they uesd to call Customer Service in Korea. I have done, according to your advice. Thank you so much! Big help for me. This is my first feedback in RUclips.
Everyone should check the water pressure to their refrigerator. Recently, my neighborhood pressure was increased dramatically (up to 80 - 90 PSI which is very high). When that happened, my ice maker started freezing up when before I never had this issue. What is happening (I believe) is that when the refrigerator fills the ice trays with water, the water ends up splashing out of the trays because the pressure is too high. This water that splashes out then just freezes and, over time, you get a massive buildup of ice. So pull out your refrigerator from the wall and turn down the water inlet valve. I restricted mine down to about 20% open. Now, with the valve restricted down, I don't get any splashing when I go to use the door water dispenser which is another plus. Before because of the high water pressure, water would splash out of our drinking cups when we went to get water from the door dispenser. So far since I have done this, I haven't had any more freeze ups at all whereas before, I was having to defrost the icemaker every two weeks.
Thank you so much for this video! I had to use the forced defrost feature 4 times, obviously just not long enough until the 4th time, it shut off after 20 minutes. I was then able to remove the ice maker and see I what I was dealing with. It was jammed with ice which I have now removed with a hairdryer. Easy to follow directions! I just wish this was a much better designed ice maker. I have had problems since we purchased it.
Thanks for the very informative DIY... I was also having trouble with an odd humming and binding sound sound when it came time for the ice maker to dump the ice cubes when they were ready. While the ice cube mechanism was out, I decided to pull apart the gear mechanism which sits at the front of the ice maker. There are 3 gears including the one attached to the servo motor that somehow started to bind creating too much tension. The larges gear of the 3 which attached to the external arm that scoops the ice out of the tray was practically seized inside its hole. So I carefully wet sanded (to keep the plastic slick and polished) the part of the gear that slid through the hole where the arm attaches and eventually made it turn super smoothly. I put everything back together and did the test illustrated in this video using the little button on the side of the ice box, and voila!! Back in business! No more humming or binding noises!!
It worked. Took about 15-20 minutes of that incessant beeping to get it defrosted enough to remove it. A fair amount of ice built up way in the back too so I was able to leave open another 24-30 minutes while I removed and chipped more ice off.
Videos on washing and dryer machine selection brought me here, but as I also own this particular fridge with this particular problem, how could I not subscribe. Very many humble thanks.
Thank you so much! Other videos did not mention to gentle pull down on refrigeration line. I tried forever to pull out maker...it was stuck in the refrigeration line the whole time! Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Pressing the little tab on the top right, and pushing the ice maker box up as well as giving it a tug and it finally came loose. I believe the problem we had was that likely our fridge had not been closed firmly so the ice in the ice maker had started melting together and then freezing back into a big blob so it had problems pushing the ice forward. Especially the front part was clogged totally in ours.
Thank you SO much. I watched a few others and even tried to use a hair dryer as suggested by another DIY video ..... let's just say....setting it to defrost (Fd).. .is WAY better! Two thumbs up! :-) Yes, I am Siskel and Ebert old. :-D
Hey! I only partly melted the light fixture inside of my refrigerator before I found your video, thank you so much, hopefully the rest of the process will work to my favor. 🎉😂😂😂🎉
I just had an ice maker repair done (under extended warranty purchase) on a 2016 model. The repair bill was $340 to the insurance company. They replaced the ice maker, an extra part (larger tube), and some 12 connection circuit board that came as a single kit. Oct. 2021. Took the repair guy an hour to do this, but I'm sure he's done it many times. So a replacement circuit board is now part of the "repair" kit. A few days before this I find my refrig at 45 degrees. I find the common "frozen" coils and upper tube. The refrig screen showed 35 degrees, the refrig was 45 degrees. The sensor was in ice. So 3 1/2 hours later I defrosted the back coils to get the plastic/foam cover off. Can't just pull it off, hair dryer at medium. Also cleaned the defrost tube that was frozen. There seems to be kits (extra heater coils) you can buy and replacement defrost tube de-icers. I'm hoping the replacement circuit board can fix the frozen ice maker and main coils freezing problem. I'm hearing the "energy conservation" of all the new refrig are the problem. Not running the defroster coils as much as they should to remove all ice.
Fresh food warming up and cover in frost means you've got a clogged drain tube in your mechanical compartment, you will need a water leakage kit DA82-01415A. It's also recommended you replace the defrost sensor and depending on damage to the cover to replace it as well.
Thank you so much for the video! Perfectly explained for my refrigerator even though it's a slightly different model. I turned it on, waited 5 minutes but the ice maker is still a solid block of ice...I did however hear some movement in there, I think. The beeping is SOOOOO annoying haha! I'll leave it going for a while and go play outside I guess :)
Haha, I feel like an idiot. We punch the ice make door up and pull it out and leave the drawer out. Then we take glasses of hot water and put them in the ice compartment to melt the ice off. I'm so glad I found this video! This ice machine is a PAIN!
I just did that, but used a rubber mallet at the base bottom..yes it worked punch that MOFO! It released the bucket finally! FFS ...then was able to chip out the ice block. NO, you're not an idiot, brilliant idea. I didn't want to defrost. This happens a lot since owning Samsung. Fridge is great, but the ice maker nightmare repeating. Thank you for your comment.
This is a great video and had everything I needed to know to fix my ice maker. The steam shot really worked well. My ice maker was so frozen over with ice it was warping the inside. This cleared it all out. Thank you
Perfect fix. Although it took 30 minutes to defrost, after which I was able to easily pull out the ice drawer...and a large slab of ice had fallen off. Thanks for the video!!
Just installed the drain hose that I got from your store. Thanks for the great video - it went in like a dream and the advice to clean my compressor was on point. :)
Thank you thank you! Totally (to me at least) undocumented feature being able to force defrost this damn refrigerator. It's a hateful machine - it's thanks to you that keeps me from just firing this pig and getting something better!
Hey Ben - I'm a licensed general contractor in No. CA and have watched your vid on the Samsung ice maker...well done...thanks! I was really interested in the idea from Michael Does about the USB heater strips. Do you have a process for that install? He never tells how to route a 110v line into the ice maker compartment...what's the secret!?
Yes. If its REALLY bad, expect longer. There've been a few people commenting with "Why won't it come out" and its hard to just be like "Look, your ice tray has 20lb of ice, and that may take awhile to do"
Hello. Great vid. I have a huge chunk of ice on my ice maker and saw your instructions on forced defrost. Before I put it into forced defrost, do I need to put a cup or something under the ice spout to catch the water from the defrosting ice chunk? Or what should I do to catch the water? Thanks
Wish I had seen this a few years ago before my ice maker became beyond repair due to cracking/over heating /melting by blow dryer used- fortunately it wasn’t avail and I had no manual 😝- But thank you for moving forwad!
Note : call Samsung! This repair is COVERED! We picked up the food grade silicone from a local appliance shop & I cleaned surfaces with alcohol then sealed. We defrosted / unplugged the fridge for 24 hours then caulked the inside and outside of the ice maker housing on the bottom left.. (long side that meets the left fridge wall). I pulled out the ice maker and auger assembly to do this. Let it cure for 24 hours then reassembled and turned on. Note: take the bottom back panel off & use an extra fan to add cooling until the fridge reaches correct temperatures. Since doing this I do not have any water in my ice maker dispenser! Works great & worth the 48 hr inconvenience!
Nice video for those who are not trained. A metal screw driver should not be used to pull down the ice maker coil, spring a leak their and your refrigerator is not repairable. Also you missed a few other items that are notorious and frozen. The air vent above the auger motor. And if the auger drain was clear. Not alone the water drop to the machine or any other items. If their system sensors are bad. Best to let the professionals do the work so you are guaranteed proper repair that is covered by warranty and insurance of said company.
Super helpful video...I'm about to try the FD defrost mode on my icemaker. In addition to a block of ice in the ice maker, I have water bleeding out of the top of both door hinge mounts and then down onto the door seals then in and around my fridge.. Have you ever seen anything like this? not sure if its related to the icemaker.
I appreciate the video, does running a forced defrost impact the lower ice maker and freezer or just the ice maker in the top portion. I'm trying to figure out if I need to move current freezer contents and fresh food to a diff unit. Thank you
it took me half a day so I used FD mode a few times, and it didnt seem to affect the bottom even the fridge contents were good for a few hours, jammed it all to the back and right side of fridge so I could work on the ice maker box
@@robwienburg3988 much appreciated, my mistake was taking the ice bucket out to remove James ice and not putting it back in. It's a mini ice age there 😁
I had the same issue with mine. Being a little inventive I installed a small usb strip heater in the ice maker compartment and put it on a timer to activate twice a week for 30 minutes. Since doing this the problem has been solved. It's kinda sad that this is required on a new $3000+ refrigerator. I definitely won't by samsung again.
Oh man, that's a fantastic idea. We already do that with the main evaporator heater in the refrigerator. What were you using for the power source to do this fix? What kind of heater? You have my interest with this one!
@@bensappliancesandjunk It's a 5v USB powered heater that has two strip from Amazon for around $15. The dimensions are 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" for each strip which makes it fit perfect for the bottom and side of the ice maker itself. I tested it out with a USB backup battery and now have it set up on a timer with the USB plugged into it.
Nice to know what the unit looks like under all the ice. I’m obviously going to have to thaw mine in stages. Ran my steamer dry & only got half the ice buildup melted from the bottom & side of the tray thing. Can’t hang the fridge open longer with a load of food inside 😢
Excellent very well made video by an obvious pro! Thank you very much! Mine has been beeping for 10 minutes now...do I just wait for it to quit beeping then check it out? Thank you!
You can wait for it to time out OR you can go back into the defrost mode and switch the selection until nothing's on the screen (no FF or rF code), and it SHOULD get you out of the selector in about 10 seconds.
I just want to add that the 2 buttons he pressed are “Energy saver and Fridge”. On my Samsung, the 2 buttons in that particular location are “Freezer and Lighting”. I was still able to access the menu despite the buttons having different function. So the access is pressing those 2 specific buttons regardless of what function the buttons do
Fantastic, THANK you very much for the detailed and right instructions! I was able to follow them exactly and did the ice maker defrost... It was a bad one... 😀
I have this fridge and the ice maker randomly stopped working. Test button says it’s working as does the SmartThings app. At first I thought it was ice build up so I took a blow dryer to it and melted it all (not knowing about the defrost mode). That worked for a bit then it stopped again, but there was almost no ice build up when it stopped. Now the only way I can get it to start making ice again is to unplug it and leave the freezer side open for 20 minutes or so with the ice tray out. Seems like the water source may be getting frozen in the source line and unplugging it melts that water - at least for a little while. Will the forced defrost help this? Also, can I do a forced defrost from the SmartThings app? Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge!!
Great video! My ice maker keeps getting jammed assuming from the ice/frost build up all over the bottom of the ice maker. I’ve been just chiseling everything off regularly. Did the defrost today which made it easy. But when I tested it, it did nothing. It’s still making ice tho but since I just defrosted it maybe that will help. No issues with the fridge besides the ice maker. Is it better to just replace the ice maker? Fridge is about 4 years old.
Good video. I did manage to defrost the ice maker, and did all the diagnostics. I still get cold water for drinking and I know the filter is OK, but the ice maker is not getting water, so not making ice. Any suggestions?
Awesome help. Went through the process and was able to use a steamer to melt the ice quickly without risk of damage/melting plastic by using a hairdryer. Totally cleared the ice buildup. It's been an hour and I'm not getting ice yet. I'm guessing it will take some time?
They really really suck. There are some service kits to help fix the issue but the part and build quality is so bad, it means there are a lot of issues

@@bensappliancesandjunk thanks for sharing. I'm here for the same reason most of us are..... the icemaker freezes up constantly. This fridge should come with a hair dryer and extension cord as i have to defrost the unit once a month. I must say that Samsung should be embarrassed to put their name on an appliance that is subpar at best. I also bought a washer and dryer made by them. 6 months in the washer clutch packed it in but was covered under warranty. I'm a mechanic by trade and know that the issue is the seals allowing humidity in and frosting the unit. I'm going to try and use some foam seal tape to help with the air leaks. Thanks again for sharing. I was curious what the blue button was for on the side of the icemaker.
I have ti defrost my ice maker with a hair dryer every freaken month! Three years ago I suggested my brother in law a Samsung fridge, thinking they must have sorted out my 6-year ice maker problem. But NO, my brother in law start having same maker freeze up issue right after his warranty expires! Last week I stopped by appliance area at Lowes, out of curiosity I checked out Samsung fridge’s icemaker. THEY STILL HAVING THE SAME CRAPPY DESIGN! We should all leave a review at those retailer’s websites so people can know ahead of time.
The forced defrost mode saved me from breaking something pulling on the ice drawer for sure. Sat for 2 hours and still wouldn't release and I was pulling hard. 5 minutes of forced defrost and it broke loose. Huge ice chunks from a power outage melting the ice and re freezing locked the drawer right up.

Keep up the great videos!!
Can you tell me how I can go about getting a Samsung to send a repair?
This is the second time mine is out and I cannot get anyone on the phone!
I have been told by their technicians that Samsung will use your use of non-Samsung water filter against you. Keep an old one available if needed.
A very good use of 6 minutes! Absolutely everything I could possibly need to know to fix my ice maker. Many, Many ,thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much for the informative video! Just what we needed. This will be the LAST Samsung fridge we buy. And we have a Samsung washer dryer that we’ll be replacing too. This is just pisspoor design all around.
I on the same ,don't like Samsung no more
Same here... Finally junked our Samsung washer/dryer (which were very expensive). We are limping through what feels like the last days of our very expensive Samsung refreg/freezer. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
I dont like samsung anymore either
Yep I too learned the hard way... They need to stick to just TVs and electronics!
Most fridges with the ice maker in the fridge have these same issues.
Thanks for the tip! I just called Samsung and they're coming out this week. Zero cost for parts and labor! Calling was worth the try for sure!
When u say reset button, do u mean the button he refers to in the video as the "test" button? Just curious as im having the same problem
@@bzo218 yes- the button he refers to as the test button is the reset button. I have had to reset the ice maker before because it will stop producing ice.
I did what you said on the buttons but it just keeps beeping Non-Stop. Is that normal?
I know this is old post, but did you need to remove the food from the fridge when running the manual defrost?
Absolutely one of the best RUclips instructional videos anywhere. Superb video, excellent narration, added graphics and tight editing makes this a 10+++. Ours is 3 years old but purchased the HD Extended Service Plan and I am calling them on Monday. These units are an unmitigated disaster and should be Class Action lawsuit in the making.
There's a class action lawsuit involving the Icemaker. I am not sure what keywords to use, but its out there.
Our ice maker was repaired 7 times and finally extended warranty ran out. I believe they have a lemon law on this now
Thanks so much.
I do have the same problem!!
You wont permanently fix it lol
I left it in Defrost Mode for about 20-30 minutes, and it returned normal function(screen) automatically.
this is the worst refrigerator ever! Do not buy Samsung kitchen suites.... JUNK!
@@pamiepalm1 DITTO
Thank you so much. Your instructions worked perfectly and saved us an expensive service call. My ice maker had about 1.5 inches of ice built up on the top of the unit. I had to run this cycle 5 or 6 times, but it worked and melted all of the ice. Highly recommend this video.
Does this defrost the freezer as well?
@@rudystawarek2476 no just the ice maker
How long each time did you run it?
Thanks!
I could have never figured this out without your video! Especially the amount of pressure needed to unlatch the icemaker clip.
Thanks !!
A lot of pressure? I just tried and it didn’t work. I was afraid to break it
@@oritbc4578 yea I feel like the only way for it to come out is to break it
Yes it is pain still can't get it out
@@oritbc4578 yeah I am trying it today myself and cannot get it to come out it looks like I'm pushing the clip insufficiently I'm just wondering if it's still frozen up behind or something holding it in I'm just going to keep messing with it all day hopefully I can get it.
Call them they will repair it for free because its a know problem
So the forced defrost didn't melt the frozen ice?
Thank you for this video, took me 3 cycles to get the top drawer out. The entire top side of the ice maker was totally caked up
Yes, I am Siskel and Ebert old. :-D
Hey! I only partly melted the light fixture inside of my refrigerator before I found your video, thank you so much, hopefully the rest of the process will work to my favor.

Very clear and concise directions. Thanks a bunch!
You’re brilliant! Only one like this on you tube! Lifesaver thank You!!
Mine took 35 minutes before I could force it out. Nive video. Thanks Mucho.

Thank you so much. Mine took over 15 minutes on the defrost mode before I was able to get the drawer open. Huge ice chunk inside.
Yes. If its REALLY bad, expect longer. There've been a few people commenting with "Why won't it come out" and its hard to just be like "Look, your ice tray has 20lb of ice, and that may take awhile to do"
Thanks this helped a lot.. did 15 mins got a big chunk out now I see there is more back there...
Thanks it worked like a dream and no thanks to Samsung,!!!
Hello.
Thank you! Finally got it out. Fat massive chunk of ice was stuck in there.
mine too!
This video worked like a charm! Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how to troubleshoot the freezer compartment in this same fridge?
Thank you for your tutorial!!! Saved me from doing things the hard way 😊😊 You explained it so well, step by step!!
You just saved my fridge. Thanks for the well detailed explanation.
Thank you
it took me half a day so I used FD mode a few times, and it didnt seem to affect the bottom
even the fridge contents were good for a few hours, jammed it all to the back and right side of fridge so I could work on the ice maker box

Fantastic, THANK you very much for the detailed and right instructions! I was able to follow them exactly and did the ice maker defrost... It was a bad one... 😀
Thank you. Which Fridge has most reliable icemaker?
Ben, you are the man! thanks for the video
You are awesome, very very detailed on all your videos, Thank you so much

Did the defrost today which made it easy. But when I tested it, it did nothing. It’s still making ice tho but since I just defrosted it maybe that will help. No issues with the fridge besides the ice maker. Is it better to just replace the ice maker? Fridge is about 4 years old.
Good video. I did manage to defrost the ice maker, and did all the diagnostics. I still get cold water for drinking and I know the filter is OK, but the ice maker is not getting water, so not making ice. Any suggestions?
This Video saved me a lot
Awesome help. Went through the process and was able to use a steamer to melt the ice quickly without risk of damage/melting plastic by using a hairdryer. Totally cleared the ice buildup. It's been an hour and I'm not getting ice yet. I'm guessing it will take some time?
24-48hrs
OMG!! we have been dealing with this evil equipment for months!! Augh!
They really really suck. There are some service kits to help fix the issue but the part and build quality is so bad, it means there are a lot of issues
@@bensappliancesandjunk This was a perfect RUclips video (detailed, but concise, all about the issue and not the presenter), and I hope you get as much business as you want, you deserve it! The Internet is better because you're on it. If I'm correct in assuming you have a local business, I think folks on here would be glad to know how to get in touch. Nobody likes ads everywhere, but a little promo for the company isn't bad. We need honest straightforward folks. My wife needs ice to get hydrated (medical issue with water), so resolving this issue is critical.
We have a Samsung washer out beside the house (for the last year) that is less than 8 years old, but wouldn't complete spin cycle. I won't bore you with all the details trying to get Samsung to fix it, but my take-away is "don't buy Samsung anything". Since my experience is limited, what is your opinion regarding Samsung appliances or as a company in general?
@@netwrench6570 samsung makes great phones. Its what I shoot my videos on. But their appliances are utter garbage. Their refrigerators have many issues like the icemaker issue, and their washers and dryers aren't built to last. Eventually I hope to shoot an honest video on what brands are good and bad, since I don't have an affinity towards any brand because I have to fix them.
This is great video!! Helps a lot!!!
You’re a lifesaver thank you so much
Thanks man I needed this video
Glad I could help
Can you please tell us how we get Samsung to send us every placement parts.. I am tired of thawing my ice maker every 2 months
Thank goodness for this video! Great explanation, very clear and precise!!!
Thank you so much. This worked great!! I have ice again!!
Thank you so much for the video.
Hi
I find you an expert
My ice maker stopped making ice after defrosting ice blocking the passages.
After watching your videos I realized that the device freezes water but water does not fill the tray.
How do I solve this problem?
Check temperature inside cabinet. It needs to be below 12*F for it to automatically cycle
@@bensappliancesandjunk I checked, the tamper seems fine and the humidity in the box is frozen.
The problem is the ice cube tray is empty, and does not fill with water
concise and simple. thanks!
Awesome video! Thanks very much!!
Well done, very informative and descriptive video 👍
