    Refrigeration tech here, this is a great solution. I have brought up the ice chute to my supervisor a few times with pics of water scale and was dismissed. I fix that every time anyway and never get call backs on the same frige for it. The hvac aluminum tape is genius! I’ll be swapping over to this myself.
    Samsung needs to see this video, I will be sending this out to all the guys I work with.

      Thanks for the comment 🙏🏼! Yes, it was through some serious thought process that I figured out the best solution for this issue. I shared this information with all my fellow techs, and they have also had success in most of their repairs. I've also given this information to Samsung tech support agents. However, I never knew how to get ahold of the person who can make a difference in the field.

      We are new homeowners and our fridge is doing this. We can't wait to do this. Our Ice Master has a date of 8-31-2018. Should we get replacement parts in addition to the steps you suggested? We still get ice in the freezer part of fridge which is crazy. 🤯 Thank you for going slow and step by step so the average person can do this at home.

    Awesome help. Here's a suggestion to make the flapper de-scaling easier (without disassembly). Heat up a glass of vinegar to about hot coffee temperature (no boil) in the microwave. Put a rag and some bowl under the external dispenser. Pour the vinegar into the chute on the inside of the door. Let it sit for a minute or two to remove the scaling (it may actually run out slowly if the flapper has a lot of scaling). You can use a tiny brush on the inside to speed up the process. Repeat with another glass of vinegar if necessary. Mine only took one. Important is that the vinegar is hot, which speeds up the process significantly. Make sure the rag is big enough as the vinegar will come out a lot of different cracks.

    OMG man thank you so much for posting this video!!! You have solved the stupid Samsung ice maker problem single handed. I did this fix and it’s been rock solid (literally) for about 2wks now. No more slushy ice leaking out the ice maker dispenser. No more frozen icicles in the icebox. Dude Samsung techs could learn from your video and save the company a s**t load of $$ and time. I had a repair company try to fix my ice maker issue 3 times over 3 months with zero success. I’m a mech engineer and when I saw your video I had very high hopes. A hair dryer is the quickest way to melt the ice without unplugging the fridge.

    Great detailed video. I just viewed it, and have not tried it out yet, but I certainly will try it. Thank you, Guru, for finally trying an out of the box solution!
    UPDATE: I have a slightly different model, and I just did the tape fix. I will update again after a test period. Also, being far less familiar with the inside of the cavity, I found the following tools helpful:
    > stubby straight blade screwdriver to assist in loosening the electrical connections;
    > LONG (24") straight blade screwdriver to hold up the auger retaining clip while removing it ( I found that the entire auger assembly had to be lifted slightly, not just the tab.) and;
    >battery operated headlamp to help in viewing the back of the cavity.
    Thanks again, Guru!

    Best video I’ve seen on this. We’ve had one of these refrigerators since 2017, we gave up on the ice maker by 2018. Thanks for putting this together. Nice job with the camera angles, sequence and staging. This results in simply showing how it’s done and not spending our time yammering. The other videos I’ve seen on this have been a struggle to watch past 30 seconds, but fortunately that’s about how long it takes to figure out whether they know what they’re talking about or not. Hopefully we’ll have ice by sometime tomorrow .

      @@theapplianceguru I forgot to post my update: I followed all the instructions for a full defrost, and it really did have to sit for about 24 hrs before that ice bucket thawed and was removable. I didn’t do the aluminum taping. Just thawed, dried and then made sure to make ice every day. Every day I take the ice bucket out and dump it. Our problem was we didn’t use the ice maker during the first winter, that’s when it froze. It’s been working great since that first post, and I figure if it hasn’t frozen up yet, it probably won’t

      I give all the props to the appliance guru and hope he gets lots of hits because he made a fantastic video. I will say, I almost made this repair and was looking in my fridge manual to see if there was any extra information on this. The section I flipped to said to call Samsung support. I called them and told them my ice maker was frozen. They got the serial number and said my fridge was out of warranty but they would send someone to fix it free of charge (5 minutes on the phone tops). They called a local appliance repair shop and had them call me to confirm an appointment time. I found out from the repairman that Samsung finally fixed this issue and is replacing almost the entire ice machine free of charge because it costs them less money than having multiple technicians troubleshoot and travel to repair. At the very least, I would take 5 minutes to call Samsung before making the repair.

    Very good video. Besides waiting on the thawing out, it was fixed in 30mins-hour and running with no issues. I only needed to add the tape and it resolved my issue. Basically it would slowly start to freeze up but it also started spitting water out of the trap door every time we didn’t get ice for a bit. And then eventually just not work.
    Hardest part was seeing a screw on the right side of the upper ice maker that was unreachable. It also coincides with the cut of him pulling out without the camera. You leave it. Also, with the ice bucket. I used the tape on the outside of the small crack we had. Figured why not. Haha. Again thanks for the video.

    NO MORE ICE TRAYS! After having this ice maker problem from almost day one of owning the Samsung fridge, your easy to follow fix has been working perfectly for last 4 weeks. In the past when we would defrost the ice maker, the issue would show up again in just days. Also I would have not even thought to check the seal on the flapper and of course ours was pretty crusty. A tip for others...the foil tape can be a pain to work with, but I found to work with smaller sections, maybe 2-3 inch max makes it a little easier to place. Thanks big time!!

    Bravo guru!! Worked on my sister's frig and freezer. 2 days to completely defrost, followed your perfect instructions and appears to have fixed the problem. Added a longer clip that goes into the frig drain hole. A few cringe- worthy moments while disassembling/reassembling the ice box components making sure not to break anything, but it really was as easy as you said. Your instructions and video were excellent.

    A++ thanks mate - superb work.
    One quick thing - when you're working on plastic, especially in a fridge - head up all the clips so they're a bit more flexible. A hairdryer works a treat if you dont have a heat gun.

    I have this fridge, I battled the ice maker for the first few years, but gave up and went to ice cube trays several years ago. At that time the “fix video” that was available seemed to complicated and involved a $150 “fix kit”. Now I have ice forming under the bottom drawer on the very bottom of the fridge, I have to clean it out every so often and it’s getting worse, so I’m going back to war with the ice maker! And with your video I plan to be triumphant! Thank you!!!

    Great news. We purchased out $2700 samsung fridge in 2015. The ice maker has been a constant headache. I heard on a blog that samsung is now offering warranty replacement o your poorly designed ice maker. I called the 1-800-samsung number, gave them my serial number and model numbers and sent some pics. I am scheduled for a complete replacement of the etire icemaker, drawer, mother board and other items all covered under warranty, It is worth a try

      @navyretired230 Год назад

      Update on the "50%" off promotion: Anyway to summarize, our ice maker has been broken since 2014 and had been worked on by Samsung technicians a few times. I was able to have them try one more time to make repairs last month. The technician was not able to repair the ice maker so Samsung offed a 50% code for the purchase of a new fridge but we could only order from their website. here is the catch: The 50% off is only for full price items on the samsung website. So one goes to the samsung website and see a new fridge for $2000 BUT...in fine print it has the full retail price underneath. Full retail would be like $3799. keep in mind the 50% off is only for the item and not set-up, deliver, tax etc. So samsung is a total BS company. Do yourselves a favor and take the $250 cash offer and look at other brands at Costco or Sames. They offer a 3 yr warranty as well. One can get a really nice fridge for $2000. You would come out about $100 ahead using the 50% coupon, trading in your old samsung vs just buying from Costco. Both have a 3yr warranty, install is free and haul away. With the $250 cash coupon you could use it at Costco and get it for abut the same price plus you earn abut $60 in rewards
