    I’ve been doing some research and I’m in the process of installing a cheap pool pump with filter in mine to filter and add a UV light to it to help with the algae. I wanted to keep it as chemical free as possible

      That sounds really good, I would love to know how it turns out. I've just got back from a weekend away and mine is a bit on the murky side so it's time for a clean out! Stay frosty 🥶

    I had a similar setup (Nure Cover) used it for about 9 months, bought a small chest freezer and about 10 1ish gallon plastic containers. I would freeze them, then use a hammer to break them once in the water (this helped it cool faster) along with a broom to stir it up. Did about 50 plunges and def worth it.
    Yesterday I just got a chiller and one of those inflatable tubs (ProdigyX), about $1800 total with the filter, wifi auto shut off. The reason I moved over to this new setup is because I have a severe spinal injury and i need to get in more often, this reduces the hassle for me and the physical effort (moving/breaking the ice).
    Thanks for the vid!

      Hey thanks for watching! I picked up a small chest freezer this week as the temp in the tub was getting to 12⁰c and will seeing how effective it is to bring the temp down and how many blocks are needed to do it. The chiller set ups seem good, a bit on the pricey side for me right now which is why I went for the freezer + I can put ice-cream in it 😂

    Thank you for your coverage on this ice bath - you convinced me to purchase one! In case I missed it, how many times are you adding chlorine before changing the water? Also how often are you changing the water? Thanks in advance. 🙏🏻

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  3 месяца назад +3

      Hi thanks for watching, I change the water on average every 6-8 weeks, adding chlorine maybe 2-3 weeks apart. You'll get a feeling for it when you start to notice the water going a bit murky, add some chlorine. If that doesn't freshen it up it's time to change out the water.

    Informative. How many pounds of ice vis-a-vis gallons of water to get temperature down into the 50s. I plan to use it indoors because I'm in the Arizona desert and everyday it is over 100 degrees.

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  День назад

      Hi Scott thanks for watching and for your question. I'll try to answer it as best as I can, we use Celsius in the UK so forgive me if my Fahrenheit conversion is a little off.
      The temperature of water in my tub currently sits at around 14⁰c/57⁰f. I used approx 22litres/6 us gallons of ice to get the temperature down to around 8⁰c/46⁰f.
      The temperature outside is currently 17⁰c/63⁰f
      The hotter your outside temp the more ice you are going to need. There will be a limit on how much ice you can put into the tub before the water starts spilling out or you won't have enough water to get yourself fully immersed.
      Unless you want to get in with the ice as well, I don't do that as I use frozen plastic bottles full of water which I refreeze after each use.
      I hope that is helpful.

    How did you get the top ring to blow up so fully with air ? I can’t get mine to be that full and then seal the valve without it losing enough air for it to be deformed. Not a huge problem, but it looks better full.

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  21 день назад

      Hey thanks for watching and for your comment! The valve is pretty good on the rim of the tub, it doesn't let air out when I inflate it there is a small black self sealing part of it inside the mouth piece which takes care of that.
      Occasionally I will need to reinflate it as air eventually leaks, perhaps you have a faulty valve on your tub? It may be worth contacting Nurecover about that. Definitely worth having it fully inflated so it seals better with the lid and keeps the cold in 🤙

    Hi Will, thanks for your video. Ive seen a lot of icepod videos saying that on top of chlorine, they use a circulation pump to clean the water. Do you do that? Or do you happen to know a good pump that can be used? Cheers

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  26 дней назад

      Hey Will, thank you for watching and commenting. I don't use any pumps or filters (yet) sorry I don't have any recommendations but I have seen you can get various types of chiller units that cool the water, circulate it and filter it in one! The good thing about circulating the water would mean it breaks the thermal layer and gets that extra uncomfortable factor for longer. If you find a good recommendation for a pump please come back and let us know about it!

      @@GarageBuiltAthlete Thanks a lot, Will. I bought ozone machine as recommended by an American guy on RUclips but it broke on the first try! With the chlorine, does the water smell strongly of chlorine? My wife is on at me to make the pod as natural as possible, so I'm wondering if chlorine or food grade hydrogen peroxide would be better. Thanks again

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  24 дня назад

      Initially the chlorine smell is strong as I make it up in a small jug of water then stir it into the tub. But from then I would say no, it isn't a strong smell.
      You can go completely treatment free if your wife wants to empty, clean and refill the tub every couple of days you are onto a winner 😂😉

    How often do you fill & drain it?

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  День назад +1

      Hi thanks for watching and for your question. I change the water and give it a clean approximately every 6-8 weeks in colder months. When it gets warmer it needs changing more regularly bacteria tends to build up faster when the temperature increases.
      I hope that helps!

      Yes you can keep them outside, it will definitely keep it colder but will get messy from the elements so make sure you keep a cover on it or have it under a covered area if you can 👌

    I followed your chlorine instructions and then tested because it smelled too strong... The level was off the charts! After consulting with a pool company, it should be half a teaspoon of granules, not a tablespoon!

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  Месяц назад +1

      Hey thanks for watching and for doing your own testing. That's really good to know, what sort of levels were measured? Ph? I'd be really interested to know the results of the test.

      @@GarageBuiltAthlete Chlorine, pH, Alkalinity. When one is off it throws the others off too. I just drained and added water until it tested more towards normal (it was still on the high end but closer to normal). How are you not getting dry skin using that much? Or maybe the granules you have are a different concentration.

    • @GarageBuiltAthlete
      @GarageBuiltAthlete  Месяц назад

      It could be you have stronger chemicals, I don't have any problems with dry skin and the chlorine smell is there but not strong with the amount I use.
      I once put in around 3 heaped teaspoons in when I refilled the tub to see what difference that would make to the life of the water, that made me itchy so I knew that was too much 😂

      Hey thanks for commenting, I've not looked into Hydrogen Peroxide, I thought that was for dying your hair 😂
      I haven't had any issues with chlorine drying out my skin but it must be a common thing. Have you found the hydrogen peroxide is a better option than chlorine?
